I have never been so delighted reading an instructive book! This book was informative, forward-thinking and encouraging for someone like myself who has physical limitations. Strenuous outdoor work isn't possible, but this work offers many ideas which makes planning and executing a sustainable garden feasible. Indeed just reading this book makes me feel sunny inside! The author simply lays out guidelines for making the most of the land you have available, whether urban or rural. With recommendations for how to prepare and maintain soil, designing accessible beds, producing and then storing crops, it truly covers everything needed to make your dreams of renewable gardening and living possible.
Loved the book. I think it's a great book for people inspired by the concept 'Permaculture' and who want to incorporate it in their lives in any shape or form. I was inspired to start my own small projects before starting a big one and will use the tips in the book to guide me! Thanks Sophie McKay.
A wonderful as through review to food production. Also a change from conventional food production. Perhaps a solution to help the environment and heal mother earth. Highly recommended read!
Besides being supremely informative and educational 'The Practical Permaculture Project' by Sophie McKay is written in a fun, easy, and entertaining way. It is as engrossing as a book by Charles Dickens and is designed in the same fashion.
I have just started a permaculture farm in the Philippines and the book serves as a beautiful handbook and a guide.
Very helpful and full of ressources. Matches so much my values on environmental friendly life project. This is the Book to read if ever you have any edible Garden project. Very easy to read and understand. Highly recommended.
I have been looking for a book for awhile that could help me start learning about permaculture - finally, this book is the one I have been looking for! I tried other permaculture books, but they were too long, dry, and overcomplicated to the point of almost scaring me away from trying permaculture altogether. The Practical Permaculture Project is a well-written, easy-to-read book with tons of helpful, practical information. It's what I was looking for - an excellent overview of all areas and methods that I can implement immediately in my garden. I also love the positive tone and hand-drawn, detailed illustrations - I can tell a lot of time and effort went into creating this book. It's definitely a must-have for everyone who is looking for a practical overview and those who enjoy connecting to nature through gardening.
Even with a small backyard of about 40m2, a wish for a bit of grass for the kids' football and other games, I have found plenty of inspiration, tips, and tricks I am keen to try out on the garden beds I have and am building and rebuilding.
Though the book is written mainly for a warmer climate and perhaps bigger garden then my garden in Norway, I have learned a lot that I hope will be helpful for me. I have got about ten pages of notes, and especially the section about growing efficently is useful for my small garden with limited growth season!
The review is based on the preread download I was given bu the author, but I have also downloaded the kindle version for future reference.
Permaculture is a revelation in right time and moment. It is huge for the people, but most people dont realize it yet. In the midst of soil degradation and nature's destruction. Sophie McKay bring out back permaculture. Not just theoritical that bring boring discussion, as she said, a practical approach to permaculture, is a gate opener to someone who wants to transform their life into self sustainable and sufficiency. It is practical, and if supported with many pictures, it will more powerful. Her words already guide us well. With pictures, you will practice it like a kindergarten start to learn how to write something. Congratulations and we owe Sophie McKay from her wonderful work.

A really great grounded in permaculture. I've been interested in the subject for a while but found it overwhelming - lots of books seem very complicated. This was a thorough but easy to understand introduction to the methods and principles involved, as well as how I could use them in my small suburban garden. I particularly found the soil/water stewardship chapter helpful and the advice about compost, as I'm just starting out looking at these elements. Really useful book!
The book is pleasant and easy to read. Full of practical tips 'n tricks and hands-on advice for those who can't wait to get started with their permaculture lifestyle. Like in most permaculture books, this one also starts out by outlining the guidelines and principles of permaculture, but what really sets this book apart is the step-by-step guide to get started. Recommended for anyone eager to implement a more sustainable and self-sufficient lifestyle!
This was a nice easy short read into permaculture.
I was always intrigued as to what permaculture is, and now due to Sophie ‘s book I will go to bed that much wiser.
As a gardener, I am always looking into new ways that are more eco friendly, and more in tune with the nature that surrounds me. I think permaculture fits the bill.
I also like the view of giving back to the earth what we reap.
The practical permaculture book is an amazing resource for total beginners to permaculture like me. Even living in an urban centre, Sophie’s book has given me the confidence to start permaculture on my city terrace in Bangkok! I must thank Sophie for sharing her wisdom for a more sustainable planet.
I would call this an introduction to permaculture with a dose of "you can do this" cheerleading. It was easy to read and follow. There is much valuable advice without getting into much of the "theory" of permaculture. This will be a valuable resource to anyone investigating or starting a permaculture garden.
Overall, very motivational book about permaculture. It’s a great book for someone who doesn’t know much about the concept. It was a little repetitive at times and more “big picture” than I was wanting. I would have liked more real examples or implementation ideas. Quick read, good content, inspiring author!
A nice Lil book about permaculture. Some woo stuff and some advertising for how amazing permaculture is and how is gonna fix the world and generally restating the same shit every book on permaculture says but plenty of helpful explanations as well about water management and garden planning that I'm looking forward to implementing this fall or next spring.
Long on philosophy, short on specifics. Excellent book to explain permaculture with some good examples. You will need to work out what to plant yourself or get a garden planner that uses this system. Just bought the author's planner but hasn't come yet. I will update when I receive it.
Very good and practical book, recommended for permaculture-beginners, with practical guides and questions for the reader to answer, to make it more personal and specific to the readers own journey towards permaculture.
Brilliant book about the basics of Permaculture. I would say she went quite far on the "doom and gloom" side of things when it came to global warming/climate change and such however I felt the book still has plenty of good parts if you can push past he agendas.
A 4hr audio book. This was amazingly done, fairly short but to the point. I enjoyed the way the author made quick work of explaining the basics of companion plants and permaculture ideas.
