The war is over, but the wizarding community remains divided. Hermione returns to school without her two closest friends and with a ministry mandate hanging over her head, aimed at healing the fractured post-war world. Magical cores will be opened by way of a potion, compatible magic will reseal them and unexpected pairs will be bound without consideration of anyone's past or their sides in the war. And no one has a choice in the matter - of course, this means Hermione will be the last one to find her match. Unless...
A Dramione with marriage law, potions, soulmates, unique pairings, angst, trauma, and emotions. I'm invested in their journey especially their relationship and am going to read the sequel now. Can't wait to see how Hermione topples the Ministry as well.
I pretty much look at Dramione art whenever I go on Instagram and some of my favorite pieces have been of Draco and Hermione at Hogwarts which has made me really want to a fic where they’re at school. While I’ve found several recs of Dramione fics, they didn’t take place at Hogwarts, but then I was looking for more Draco/Hermione stories on AO3 as you do when I found Compatible Magic. It was exactly the kind of book I wanted to read right then and I started it as soon as I could! And OMG, but I loved this book — it was so WONDERFUL!
Where do I even begin? I guess first off I should say that Compatible Magic was so funny and fun to read, it had me laughing my butt off and grinning ear to ear — I could not get enough. It was a little steamy and full of emotional beats. I loved Hermione and Draco and their couple-iness: Hermione was usual awesome, swotty self and Draco was an arrogant prat but in an entirely amusing way that I couldn’t help but laugh at and just get a kick out of. I absolutely adored this fic and I will not only be reading more of First_Snow18, I have no doubts that I will revisit Compatible Magic again!
Out of respect for the fan fic authors, I’ve limited my reviews on GR but I thought I’d quickly comment to let others know that this was a really well done fic. I don’t know why the low stars or some feeling it lagged. I was invested the whole time.
Draco’s characterization was so on point for how i thought he’d be as older teen. Ugh he is such a dick/prat in this one, like continuously. Plus his inner monologue is hysterical because, yup, total dick. SO ON POINT
Their relationship definitely had toxic moments but when he spills his guts to her about everything that happened, growing up/6th year/dark Lord/his parents/drawing room floor you get it really understand him and why he is how he is and you get to see why they are a match. I’ve read a lot of Dramione over the last few years and this portion was done brilliantly.
This is perfect for someone interested in entry-level Dramione and younger! I've been working through every fic I've ever read to see where everything falls. This is an 8th-year Hogwarts setting, marriage lawish, ministry ordered, and forced proximity. There is lots of side characters to keep the main cast entertained. There's even a sequel for those interested. Draco is a little bit too much Draco and by that I mean immature Draco. This is dual POV so sometimes being stuck in his mind is a little...17 year old boy. Angry. Horny. Dramatic. Much more dramatic than Hermione (what's new there though).
It started off strong and then kind of fizzled for me. It was longer than it needed to be. But the one thing I like about this one was Draco and Hermione stayed true to who they were. Neither of them went over soft
