She glances around as she locks the café door behind her. It’s growing dark and the quiet street is deserted. Tired, she starts on her short walk home. She thinks she’ll be safe inside within minutes, but the person watching from the shadows has other plans for her tonight…
When the body of a young woman is discovered in a local playground in the center of Black Rock Falls, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane rush to the scene. Jenna recoils with horror when she sees the body, dressed in a thin nightgown, her face covered by a terrifying Halloween mask.
When the body is examined, red puncture marks are uncovered along her spine. Jenna makes a connection with a cold case where the killer tortured young women for years and was never caught. If the murderer has started killing again, Jenna knows it’s only a matter of time before another body is found.
Days later, when another victim lays slumped against the fence of a local landfill site, with the same puncture wounds and macabre mask, Jenna’s fears are confirmed. A serial killer is back in town and they’re picking off women one by one.
Then, as a third body is found, Jenna finally gets the breakthrough she needs. Dirt found underneath the women’s fingernails leads to a dangerous cave network in the mountains outside town. And once Jenna ventures into the dark, winding underground tunnels, will she find the person responsible for the deaths and take them down, or has she just walked into the killer’s trap?
**Each Kane and Alton book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone**
Kiss Her Goodnight by D.K. Hood is the 15th in the Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane series, and takes place in Black Rock Falls, Montana.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background: (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books) Former DEA, Jenna Alton is now the Sheriff in Black Rock Falls, Montana. Her past is a secret. Deputy David Kane's background is also a secret. He was a Special Forces sharpshooter, and a bodyguard to the President. They are now engaged. Then there is Forensic Scientist Shane Wolfe, who is not only a Medical Examiner with amazing computer skills, he used to be Kane’s handler. So, with a few other deputies, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small Black Rock Falls town, which seems to have more murders than a small town should.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions) The first body is discovered in the playground, dressed in only a thin nightgown, and a mask glued to her face. She had been beaten, given a number, and skewers stuck into her spine. No DNA is found on the victim.
A second body turns up with identical markings, except for the number on her back.
None of these women have been reported missing, so identifying them is difficult. There seems to be a serial killer on the loose, keeping women captive somewhere, torturing them, and then leaving the bodies for Jenna to find.
The third body, however, finally provides a clue. Is the killer getting sloppy? Or was it put there for Jenna to find.
Then Susie from the diner goes missing, and Jenna is sure this is directed toward her. Once more, Jenna will traverse the winding underground caves in the mountains just outside of town.
In between all these dead women, Jenna and Dave finally get married and have a rather short, horrifying honeymoon.
My Opinions: Well, at least this time there was a reason to bring in the FBI. Jo and Carter may as well move to Black Rock Falls, because Jenna and her team can't do anything without them. Yes, this is an on-going struggle for me and these books....and I still have problems with Carter.
Now, Poppy is back in the picture, and I didn't like her the first time around. So another character I'm not liking.... Let's not forget Emily.
I saw more strength in Jenna's authority over Dave and the team in this book. That's two in a row, and a needed improvement. I'm not holding my breath for a third.
For me, the saving grace for these books is the plot. The plots always satisfy my need for a good mystery. This was again the case. It was really interesting (if a little dark). Basically it was about psychopaths who quite easily lead double lives. A family on one hand, and brutality and killing on the other.
Overall, even with my lack of enthusiasm for the characters, these books still have my attention. Every plot is fresh and compelling. I will continue to read them.

Always enjoy a trip to Black Rock Falls, or serial killer central. Book 15 and I seriously don’t know how DK Hood keeps this series so fresh. It can go on forever in my mind. They are always full of excitement and keep me intrigued. Once again, I read this in 2 sessions and loved it.
Jenna and Dave are preparing for their big day… finally right! It has been quiet the last few months in town but then there is a body discovered in the park.. the day before the wedding. Jenna being Jenna cannot let go, she is the sheriff and in charge. It soon becomes clear that this is a killer who is escalating and the bodies keep coming. Of course, things never go smoothly in this town. But joint forces with their FBI friends, can they stop this madman, especially when it gets personal.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy to read. Published June 1st. Cannot wait for book 16 already.
This series is well developed by the time I have started it, as this is book 15. I needed to read the start of the book pretty slowly to fully grasp the characters and the relationships, but once I had, I couldn't stop reading. Hood is a highly recommended author, and I can see why. The plot flows extremely well and I thoroughly enjoyed being kept along for the ride! I have come to really love the characters too so will definitely want to read the next installment after this one!
D.K. Hood fuels this series with great action and numerous plot twists. The stories are increasingly better crafted and keep the reader connected to the many story arcs Hood has built since its outset. While Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane have been enjoying a lull in crime rates, they are jolted into action when a body is found in a playground. A new killer is in Black Rock Falls and they are ready to make an impact. Scrambling for clues, this is a killer with an agenda, forcing Sheriff Alton to adjust her skills before it’s too late.
The night is quiet and this is usually no issue as she locks up the local café. However, tonight she has a chill running up her spine, with any noise leaving her jumping. Hoping she will make it home safely, she quickens her pace. Someone is hiding in the shadows with a plan for her tonight.
A three month lull in crime has left Sheriff Jenna Alton and her senior deputy, Dave Kane, focussed in their big day. Hoping to be able to hand over the reins during their honeymoon, Alton and Kane are jolted out of their reverie when a body appears in the local playground. Dressed only in a flimsy nightgown and a sick mask, Sherrif Alton tries to decipher how the victim’s presentation may serve as a clue.
There are disturbing red punctures along the victim’s spine, leaving many to wonder if this was part of the pre-death torture. This reminds Alton of a recently incarcerated serial killer, leaving her to wonder if there is a copycat on the loose. Alton and Kane will be forced to visit him in order to get some insights.
Another body appears a few days later, solidifying the fact that there is a new killer in Black Rock Falls, hunting for women. Alton must get ahead of this or fear that the killings will never end. Kane and the others on the team are working hard to solve this with clues, but hitting a wall up to now.
When a third body turns up with some forensics that would help, Alton rushes to follow the clues to a rural set of caves. This could hold all the answers, but also lead Sherrif Alton into the killer’s trap. Hood stuns with her details and action throughout.
D.K. Hood has made many inroads with this series, which mixes serial killers with a great police procedural foundation. The narrative flows with ease and keeps the reader moving, as things turn from smooth sailing to the choppiness of troubled waters. Hood has made it her goal to pull the reader into the middle of the story, refusing to let them go until the final reveal. I cannot wait to see what twists await me with the next novels in this collection.
Character development proves essential to the series, both protagonists and secondary characters. Hood does not differentiate in the effort she appears to put into those who grace the pages of this collection, keeping the reader hooked with the various developments and emergence of fresh faces to flavour the story. I cannot wait to see how the core group will grow and how things will go with these new storylines, brought in by those who play a part in the novel.
Hood does a great job building up the action and tossing in a twist or two to set things alight. She has a wonderful way of weaving it all together, keeping the reader in a degree of suspense as things progress. I have become obsessed with the series and cannot wait to see what its to come, as I make my way through each novel at lightning speed!
Well it is back to Black Rock Falls and serial killer central! I really do enjoy this series. I cannot believe we're at book #15 already! Black Rock Falls is a magnet for psychos, serial killers, kidnappers and crazy people, but it's also home to Sheriff Jenna Alton, her now husband Deputy Dave Kane, Medical Examiner Shane Wolfe, deputies Zac Rio and Jake Rowley, along with FBI Agents Carter and Jo Wells.
I was super excited to catch up with the cast of characters. Dave and Jenna are now happily married (finally!) and away on their honeymoon when a hurricane hits and it is a race to return to safety back in Black Rock Falls. With the clock ticking, several murders have taken place and everyone is working hard to solve them as more bodies start to fall when Jenna and Dave arrive. This time the killer carves a number in his victims backs and kills in order leaving them naked and on display in town. The murders are gruesome, along with psychological and physical torture.
This could be read as a standalone ... but don't! You would miss so much! If you enjoy Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, you will enjoy this for sure. Fast-paced and suspenseful as only DK Hood can deliver. As usual, there are a few questions I’d love answered but I’m sure she has something up her sleeve. Perhaps we find out in the next book?
Special thanks to DK Hood, NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me enjoy this advance copy! Out June 1, 2022.

We carry on three months after the previous book finished. We have a new serial killer for Jenna and her team to find and I had no clue to who was the killer until it was revealed. We also have a wedding and honeymoon to celebrate. A character turns up from the previous book. The pace is fast, it can be horrendous to read in places, and there was plenty of suspects to choose from. This series never disappoints. I recommend that you read book 14 (if you haven't already) before reading this book. This fantastic series just keeps getting better with each new book.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #KissHerGoodnight in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. Once again D.K. Hood hits one out of the park with her newest installment in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. I LOVE the characters in this series. You will finally see the long awaited wedding of Kane and Alton. You will also be taken into the depraved mind of a sadistic serial killer who devalues women and tosses them out like yesterday's garbage. You will learn that not all killers skulk around in the dark. Sometimes they parade themselves in front of everyone and appear so "normal". The body of a young woman is found on a local playground. She is scantily clad in lingerie and is wearing a mask that is glued to her face. Once again a killer is on the loose in Black Rock Falls and Sheriff Jenna Alton and her police force have their work cut out for them. because this killer is forensically skilled (he leaves no clues on the bodies). The method of death and the way this killer treats his victims will leave you chilled to the bone.
As usual when I read a book by D.K. Hood I am totally absorbed into the book from the first few pages. I feel as if I slipped into the town of Black Rock Falls for a period and also into the mind of a haunting and dark killer. Shivers and goosebumps! Even though the premise is very disturbing, you will be drawn in and will literally be cheering for the victims and the police. Once you start reading this book, you will not be able to put it down until the haunting conclusion. I am fully addicted to this series. You can read this book as a standalone, but once you read one of them... you will have to read them all! One of the main things I enjoy about her books is that they are clean. The mystery is great and the plot is intense, but the author does not feel the need to "dirty" up the book with foul language which makes this a much more enjoyable read!
Ok, I think I say it every time but wowzers! This book was awesome! I loved that we carried on from the last book and had happy times to kick us off…well they were short-lived, but it was nice to see.
I really want to talk about the plot but I am not going to spoil it but jeez that was chilling. It kinda reminded me of Kiss the Girls but not as graphic! It was harrowing and cold and my days a blast from the past. I was happy about this as I was worried about a said character from the previous book!!
This is a cold cold story this time. What a sinister psychopath, the reasoning behind the whole story was a worrying one. I get it but oh my days, as a reason to justify everything. It was damn horrifying.
This is the darkest book in the series. Whilst I enjoyed this book, a LOT, I was slightly miffed with Jenna and Dave for their rash decision making on one of the characters. I mean I will probably be proven right in the next book, but I still wanted a benefit of the doubt provided!
I blitz through this!! I was racing through the pages with the need to find out what is going on. This series is still refreshing and so addictive! I really couldn’t put the book down, just loved it and will definitely be in my top books for the year!
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for DK Hood, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 1st June 2022.
This is the fourth book I have read by this author. It is also the fifteenth book in the 'Detective Kane and Alton' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Cross My Heart' (book 12 in the series), 'Fallen Angel' (book 13 in the series), 'Don't Look Back (book 13.5 in the series) and' Pray For Mercy '(book 14 in the series) and I highly recommend them all.
I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot will be gripped by this crime thriller from USA Today bestselling author D.K. Hood.' I am a huge fan of all three of those authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of DK Hood and if this is half as good as 'Cross My Heart', 'Don't Look Back', 'Pray For Mercy' and 'Fallen Angel' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue, 46 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is set in Montana, USA 🇺🇸.
This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Sheriff Jenna Alton and Detective David Kane along with the perp, Poppy Anderson . The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
OMG!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED THIS BOOK!!! D.K HOOD you just keep getting better and better!!!
This book is fantastically written and had me hooked from the first page until the last. DK Hood way of writing is perfectly evocative and she has such a creative imagination!! The descriptions were so vivid and realistic I felt myself feeling the cold and damp and reaching for a blanket to warm me up. This has got to be one of the best storylines I have ever read!!!! OMG the suspense, especially during a certain event left me with my heart in my throat!! Needless to say I absolutely LOVED the storyline. This book is absolutely perfect for any crime lovers as you are literally reading about crime, secrets and murder!!! It just does not get better than that!!! Just seriously, I cannot say how brilliant all this book was!!! The storyline is packed with tension, suspense, murder, tension and filled with twists and turns. I was absolutely shocked when everything was revealed and was not expecting it at all!!! I genuinely thought for once I had actually worked out who it was in this amazing series but YET AGAIN DK Hood proves me wrong!! A HUGE congratulations to D.K Hood, it is getting harder and harder to shock me but you did it well!!! . D.K Hood has obviously done her research on police procedurals which is yet another bonus as I've read many crime novels where the authors make massive mistakes due to not doing enough research. I am ABSOLUTELY LANDED that Jenna and Kane finally got married but as with everything in Jenna and Kane's life's nothing can go off without a hitch and my heart absolutely went out to them after a certain event. Although Jenna will most definitely have the story she wanted to tell her grandchildren. This is an absolutely unputdownable page turner and I cannot wait to read the previous and future books in what is promising to be an addictive series.
I have got an admission to make!! In my review for DK Hood's last book 'Pray For Mercy' I had said "I did have one small issue which would normally mean I only gave a book 4/5 instead of 5/5 and that was what happened with Poppy? There was something that happened but then she was barely mentioned again which is driving me crazy wanting to know. Whether this is done on purpose and all will be revealed in the next book I'm unsure. I cannot wait to read it either way and do hope we get some answers." All is forgiven!!! So glad I didn't have to wait long and I do apologise, should have known it wasn't like you to miss a detail like that, just teasing us so I am very sorry (which is a first in my reviews EVER!!)
Although this is the fifteenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
I absolutely LOVED meeting the characters again and they are all realistic and I became completely invested in them. I love that Jenna is such a strong female lead that has history and has been through so much but doesn't cower and stands strong. I enjoyed watching her relationship with Kane and I am looking forward to going back to how they met and moving forward to see where it goes especially after how the book ended (LOVE LOVE LOVE by the way!!!) Kane is another fantastic character that I became invested in and I adore how protective of Jenna he is. The team dynamics worked well and I also enjoyed getting to know more about Rio, Wolfe and Rowley and I look forward to meeting them all again. I must say my favourite had to be Duke though!!!! What an absolutely fantastic addition, I just love it when pets play such large parts in books. The only person I am not a fan of is Poppy and really hope what a certain someone said at the end of this book turns out to be false as it would break my heart if it happened.... I know how annoyingly vague that is but I don't want to give anything away so to find out what I mean you'll just have to get your copy of this amazing book. Regardless of whether you love or hate any of the characters they all work perfectly to make this storyline an absolutely addictive, explosive page turner!!! The majority of the characters have become like friends to me and I'm always sad to say goodbye never knowing when I'll "see" them again so I really hope the next book is being written as I speak. Hint hunt 😉 DK Hood!!!
Congratulations D.K Hood on what promises to be a huge success!!! Very rarely an authors books get better but you have certainly mastered it!!! I cannot wait to get stuck into more of your books and this is exactly why you are one my favourite crime authors!!!
This book is definitely in my top 10 and considering I've read 1000's this is a HUGE achievement!!! This series is also in my top 5 ♥
Do not start this until you have cleared yours schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!
Overall an absolutely addictive, heart racing and unputdownable crime thriller that will keep you up all night.
Genres covered in this novel include Police Procedural, Suspense, Mystery, Thriller, Noir Fiction and Crime Fiction amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh, Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, Kendra Elliot and anyone looking for a gripping page turner .
327 pages.
This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
Feel free to add me on Goodreads or follow me on my website or Facebook for more reviews
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exceptional book
finally the book we have been waiting for...
poppy anderson is missing though nobody knows it... as far as jenna and dave and everyone at black rock falls is concerned polly left on her own accord...
but she didnt...
jenna and dave are called to a scene....a young woman is found dead in a park...and its obvious that she was murdered and mutilated and with care and wolfe on the scene they are hopeful that they can find this killer
but even wolfe will have difficulties with this murder as its so clean...and they cant identify the woman
my word i couldnt put this book at all...from the very start with dave and jennas wedding and the hurricane it was fast paced and gritty and at times horrendous but its compulsive reading and i couldnt stop and had to read to the end to find out what was going to happen next and believe me there were a lot of whats gonna happen next in this one...
high octane and energy love this series and they just get better and better...
cant wait for the next book in this brilliant series
Detective Kane and Alton series is so addictive and compelling to read.
I haven't read all fifteen books that are out. Every single one was better than the last in the past two years since I discovered them.
“Kiss her Goodnight “ reads scarier and more suspenseful. With no clue at the beginning, the main characters are finding it harder to grab hold of the crime investigation and the author has done an amazing job of adding and hiding small clues throughout the chapters. I honestly didn't know who could've been the villain in this story.
It's really a page turner and a book that I’ve read in one sitting because I was so invested in finding out the truth.
While the action was good the quitting itself was awful. So many typos. Also, ideas were changed from one scene to a different one later. I had to cross reference to see if I missed something. Good crime drama.
This is book #15 of the Kane & Alton series. Whilst part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book, although I would recommend reading the books in series order for better understanding of the backstories. We are back in Black Rock Falls, and unusually it’s summer and there’s not a scrap of snow and ice around! The storyline, however, will still chill you to the bone when it seems there’s another serial killer on the loose! It couldn’t have come at a more inconvenient time though with an important wedding in the town, but Sheriff Jenna and her loyal team work hard to solve the case.
This book does pick up on the cliff-hanger which we were left at with the last book. The storyline flows along well although, for me, it was a little slower at times than the previous books. I love Sheriff Jenna and Deputy Dave’s characters and think they still, after all this time, work really well together. Jenna’s team are all back to help out in this latest case, and I love how FBI agents Ty Carter and Jo Wells are still around to give their expertise.
The murders are, as usual, gruesome and violent but all in context with the story. The storyline twists and turns, providing us with plenty of characters to be suspicious of, and the author does what she does best in keeping the killer well under wraps until the end! I mentally accused every single character as I read, and yet still didn’t get it right! I was left at the end of the previous book disliking one of the characters (obviously I won’t say which one – spoilers!), and the author has managed to put me back in exactly the same position at the end of this one! I can’t wait for the next book in the series to see what will happen with this character! Would definitely recommend!
Detectives Kane and Alton are back and about to tie the knot. That's if they survive long enough to make it to the altar.
As a sadistic killer has arrived in Black Rock Falls and this time Jenna, Dave and the team may have finally met their match.
And with a story packed full of twists and turns and a familiar face in the line of fire. D.K. Hood's fifteenth instalment is a thrill ride that I didn't want to put down, and it's a brilliant addition to one of my favourite series.
Which is why I would happily recommend it to others.
**I was kindly provided with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
It's been quiet of late in Black Rock Falls but Sheriff Jenna Alton isn't getting complacent, after all she and her team are responsible for keeping the citizens of murder central safe and well! So, when a body is discovered in a local playground she is disappointed but resigned to undertaking another major investigation.
Jenna and her Chief Deputy Dave Kane are travelling out of state when the first victim is joined by another but neither give any clue to either their identity or that of their killer. With time against them the offer of help from the FBI Field Office in Snakeskin Gully is gratefully accepted but, as they finally begin to move forward, a local woman disappears; is it coincidence or have things just got much more urgent?
Amazingly this is the fifteenth in this series and D K Hood still produces storylines of an incredibly high standard. The main protagonists have gradually increased in number and although Jenna Alton and Dave Kane are the main characters everyone else is as important and all are here once again. In many ways this is a pivotal personal episode in this saga but the crime is still central and there are definite hints to problems on the horizon which is always good!
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is yet another great read in a wonderfully written crime series.
This author is in a class by herself. Just amazing. Delivering book after thrilling book packed with suspense, gripping page turners that you just can't bear to put down. Each book in this series is better than the last and this one is just wow. Make sure that you finish all your chores before you start this one as I guarantee you will do nothing else once you start reading. Just wow.
I am back in Black Rock Falls for another dark, intense and utterly gripping addition to this fantastic series. Home wrecker Poppy Anderson plays a pivotal role in this book but not what I was expecting. The killer is collecting women, torturing them , killing them and displaying their corpses. Some of the women have been held for years. I had no idea who the killer was until the big reveal and I was shocked and speechless. His reasons for killing chilled me to the bone. Another MUST READ in this gripping and very addictive series and I can't wait to read more. Loved it!!! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
“…every time we say we’re bored someone gets killed…”
FINALLY!!! After 14 books and off the chart chemistry, a wedding and I cried… so much emotion and romance… and burnt toast! It was beautiful, I felt I was there experiencing the happy proceedings for myself 😍😍
Ok ok, yes this is a crime thriller, enough lovey dovey soppiness…. A nutter on the loose #surprisesurprise Bodies are turning up but without the usual personal identifiers and no one reported missing – WHO THE HELL ARE THESE WOMEN??! Was this the case that would stump the team in Black Rock Falls?
I tried to stay one step ahead as I followed the investigation. I thought my insight to the goings on with the victims would help me but I ended up tying myself in knots, trying to second guess where Hood was taking the investigation. It’s possibly a good job I’m not the sheriff in serial killer central, I mean Black Rock Falls!
Kiss Her Goodnight is a slightly different read in the series but equally as addictive and twisted. The challenges the characters faced throughout this investigation showed more of their instincts and skills than before. I was invested from the start, the switch in narratives from the investigation to one of the last victims and back again kept me on my toes. Another cracking instalment in the series and I can’t wait to see what happens next, especially with the return of one troublemaker!
I can't believe this is book 15 already - this author is certainly a prolific writer! I have read them all :)
Anyway, Jenna and Dave are back and things have been a bit quiet. They are planning their wedding but otherwise there isn't all that much to do and because they are people of action, they are not enjoying it much. Then, a young woman with a number on her turns up dead. There are few clues as to who she is but the team swings into action and tries to solve the mystery.
In the meantime, Jenna and Dave are finally married and jet off to their honeymoon. Of course, things do not go smoothly there, but I won't spoil the story for anyone else! At least they made it to the altar, lol.
Another young woman's body shows up, also with a number on her, and there is a growing realisation that there is a serial killer in Black Rock Falls yet again.
Now, I have to say that this book didn't really hit the mark for me. There were conclusions come to without evidence, a few grammatical errors which were annoying and considering that Jenna and Dave were newlyweds, there could have been a bit more love shown between them. I don't know what I am trying to say exactly....I liked this book but didn't love it.
Another brilliant book in one of my favourite series. This book follows on from the previous story where Poppy was kidnapped. We find out that she’s being held in some caves along with other women but they are punished if they talk to each other. Jenna and Kane are about to get married but their honeymoon does not go to plan. There is a killer leaving bodies in and around Black Rock Falls and soon it’s clear that Poppy is linked to this, despite all signs indicating she is in Colorado. This is a gripping crime thriller that will definitely have you on the edge of your seat. It’s great to catch up with Jenna and Kane as always. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Get ready for another twisty, roller coaster ride with reading Kiss Her Goodnight! Another great story in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. So many things happening and going on to the point of one saying what else is going to happen?!?! The main characters as always are engaging and likeable. Well, except for Poppy….I’m not sure about her at all. She’s a bit devious and sly in so many ways. She needs to be watched out for! Definitely recommended series. You will certainly never get bored and will want to keep turning the pages to the very end. Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the privilege of reading this book for my honest review. All opinions and thoughts expressed are my own.
Loved it! Book 15 and the intensity does not stop. The gangs all here and do I hear wedding bells???
What did I like? I love this dynamic duo and all the characters in this sleepy yet serial killer attracting town. Jenna and Kane battle through the wedding night only to arrive home to yet another sadistic killer that needs to be put down!
Would I recommend or buy? My shelf is filled of these lovely thrillers and I can’t wait to add this one. This is a gripping series and I just love it! Five huge stars! Give me more!
I received a complimentary copy ARC to read and voluntarily left a review! Fantastic book!
What a fabulous thriller, set in the infamous Black Rock Falls—a true serial killer hotspot! *Kiss Her Goodnight* brings a twisted new killer into play, targeting women in brutal fashion, and of course, the murders coincide with the big event: Kane & Alton's long-awaited wedding. While I'm thrilled they finally made it down the aisle, the ceremony felt rushed and lacked the wedding atmosphere I had hoped for.
The action didn’t stop there—after a harrowing honeymoon battling a hurricane in Florida, Kane & Alton are quickly back on the hunt for killers. With such a large team working together on cases, I was hoping to see more tension or conflict between members, which would have added a bit more realism. Instead, the crew is all too cooperative and agreeable.
Despite that, the pace is fast, the tension high, and the mystery well executed. All’s well that ends well in Black Rock Falls!
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture & D. K. Hood for the arc!
Thanks once again to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review "Kiss Her Goodnight" by D.K. Hood. Here we are on Book #15, and the roller coaster ride just keeps getting wilder and wilder. As one character notes, "welcome to psychopath central", Black Rock Falls where the hits just keep on coming. This one starts off with a body and a wedding, and things get hairy right from the start. The body is an unidentified female who's been recently killed in the most brutal of manners - and right off the bat (pardon the pun) Jenna and Dave (along with Jo Wells, Ty Carter, Shane Wolfe and company) know they might be heading into another killing season. But first, good things happen - and then they go horribly wrong. Ms. Hood has managed with this one to introduce us to a new psychopathy - a killer who might just be happily married with children, and manages to keep his family in the dark while continuing his spree. The pace of this one is just as hectic as usual, and along the way we are further educated in the ways of serial murderers, thanks to the incredibly gifted Jo Wells, whose profiles are always on the mark. The question of the day is: will we ever find out what happened to Poppy? The book never lets up in intensity, as the bodies begin to pile up - but suddenly something changes completely, allowing the team to finally get a handle on the perpetrator - and the hunt begins. Highly recommended, but strongly suggest you read the previous books in the series to truly understand what's happening in Black Rock Falls.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC. Kane and Alton are two of my faves and this book does not disappoint. We return to Black Rock Falls, where we find our favourite team prepping for a wedding but of course this is Black Rock Falls and no event can go off with out a serial killer popping up! Very quickly the body count rises while the team scrambles to figure out who done it. Will Jenna and Dave make it to the alter? Will they find the killer before he can kill one of their own. A face from the previous book shows up again and I can’t say that they were any more likeable in this book. Such a great quick easy read. As always looking forward to book 16. You don’t need to read the previous books in this series to enjoy this one but I do highly recolmmend as the characters backstories will make much more sense … and they are all great books!
WOW! Still trying to catch by breath! Fortunately in between some horrific scenes, we have breathing moments following our intrepid team on the path searching for the killer. I love the way D.K. Hood puts us in the thought process of detectives, and officers as they search, how they come to a conclusion, etc. Rio got to put on his big boy boots and handle some of the investigation and we saw him with success, failures, frustration. I was right there with Jenna coming home from her honeymoon. My mind would have gone exactly where hers did and I don't have Dave by my side or at my six :( Poppy, well Poppy is like a boil on my tush and unfortunately there are many like her. Kudos for what she did, but the class act is Jenna. Jenna's decision got applause and heartfelt oh no's from me. I also got a chuckle on the where the Detective's desk was going to go. Classy and smart. Anyone else think our defense lawyer has some feelings for Jo? Hmmm. I will say I knew who it was, but D.K. Hood did so good with the herrings I was starting to question myself. The real win in this series, the reason it can go on for ever is they are like family to us, extended family. We want to see each one grow, whats happening in their lives. I have so many questions, so this could go on a log time - hopefully. Thank you for the arc NetGalley, Bookouture - I am addicted to this series and freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
Several women have disappeared to never been seen again, but some of them have not even properly been missed. When one of them happens to be a police, and she manages to send a message in a dead body, a body the culprit dumps to be found. He dumps several bodies, and Jenna has yet again a serial killer on the loose, and an absolutely crazy one (like there would be any sane ones...).
I had to finish the book in two sittings, since I wanted to know whodunnit as well as will the women be saved. Kane and Alton are not in town when it all started, but once they get back, all hell is loose. I enjoy the team, found the crazy town to be both charming and intimidating, and the townspeople are great characters. Brilliant!
The story itself is absolutely horrifying! The writing is excellent, and the story flows so well that I did not want the book to end (at the same time as I wanted to kick the culprit in the nards and make him suffer). The book kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end. An outstanding must read you do not want to miss!
Kiss Her Goodnight by D.K. Hood is book #15 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. Once again the citizens of Black Rock Falls find a psychopathic serial killer in their midst. Sheriff Jenna Alton, Deputy David Kane, their deputies and medical examiner Shane Wolfe have a tough case on their hands. FBI profiler Jo Wells and her partner Ty Carter assist as they are in town for Jenna and Dave's wedding. This is a fascinating storyline with plenty of suspense. A definite page-turner! I really like the characters in this series. They feel genuine and sincere. This book is a great addition to the series.
This is Book #15 in this incredible series. Another roller coaster of a ride. What is more terrifying than being in serial killer central (Black Rock Falls)? Maybe being caught in a hurricane! This killer carves numbers in his victim’s bodies and displays them around town. Some very tense moments in this book. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. Bring on #16.
