In the mid-1990s, New York architect and educator Evan Douglis was appointed curator of the architecture galleries at Columbia University. His exhibition designs--presenting historic and present-day architects (Mies van der Rohe, Eileen Gray, Jean Prouve, Gaetano Pesce, Alvaro Siza) as well as thematic groupings--continually challenge accepted curatorial boundaries. The work is also indebted to current fabrication technologies, such as five-axis rapid prototyping and stereolithography. A significant contribution to the discourse on architectural exhibition design, Architectures of Display presents Douglis's thirteen installations in essays, drawings, and photographs.
