Bad Boy Bakers #2

Wrapped Up with a Ranger

Rate this book
Can a grumpy former Ranger find lasting happiness in a marriage of convenience with a sunny single mom?

After losing his leg, former Army Ranger Holt Steele is building a new life and a new business with his friends. Sure, he never expected to put small-town baker on his resume, but he finds he likes the quiet, simple life. If only he didn't like the sunny single mom who works across the street--or her adorable kid--quite so much.

After escaping a controlling husband, event planner Cayla Black has one focus--growing her business and maintaining a safe, happy home for her daughter. She has no time or interest in a man. Not even one who charms her child with Disney songs and keeps turning up like a mind-reader to help without being asked.

But when her ex's conviction is overturned on a technicality, and he shows up to reclaim his wife and child, Holt intervenes with an outrageous lie. The only way to fix it is to make his falsehood the truth. As they struggle to convince everyone that their marriage of protection is real, these two reluctant hearts fall deeper, until the lines between the fiction and the dream begin to blur, and they have to risk it all to protect the family they didn't know they wanted.

I am loving this series! Sweet stories with lots of steam, and mature characters who actually have conversations and don’t let their emotions drive their actions…you can’t ask for more than that.

And the icing on this delightful cake are two of the best narrators - Amy McFadden and Teddy Hamilton. Chef’s kiss!

5 star review of Wrapped Up With A Ranger (Bad Boy Bakers #2) by Kait Nolan

Having read an loved the first book in the Bad Boy Bakers series I could not wait to read Wrapped Up With A Ranger. From the first chapter Kait Nolan drew me in and I was riveted to the story she wove about former Army Ranger Holt Steele and the woman who broke through his barriers, single mum, Cayla Black and her adorable little girl, Maddie.
Wrapped Up With A Ranger ticked all the boxes for me and I am excited to see what Ms.Nolan has in store for the series.
I fell hard and fast for Holt and the fact that he sings Disney tunes with Maddie melted my heart. He is such a swoon worthy man and I really admired Cayla who is a wonderful mother and event planner.
When Cayla’s ex turns up, threatening to take Maddie from her, Holt steps in to support and protect Cayla and Maddie, which I loved. There were a number of twists and turns and their journey is rocky. Both have been badly hurt in the past and neither want to take a chance on love.
Will they come together to protect Maddie and in doing so find the love and happiness that they deserve? You’ll have to once click to find out.

It was.......cute. I would not call it heavy emotional stuff. Maddie, Cayla and Holt is cute together. They had blips on their relationship which is the confusing part imo. When Holt hid his and his friend's being theft by her ex created such dramatic response from Cayla thn why didn't she reacted more or less the same way when he planned that skim intended to trap Arthur without including her? I mean what it would have caused except avoiding the hurt and shock she got at that time. That was just plot convenient. And how exactly the trap worked? We're really blinded there. It also has another ongoing mystery from previous books which you have to read more books if you want to make sense.

Holt and his friends have decided to open a bakery in this small town, but it will be rough going when accidents start happening. When it looks like they might be the work of the ex of the single mom Holt can't get out of his mind, he offers Cayla a marriage of convenience for her protection. His protective instincts have never been more pronounced, but he thought his child rearing days were over now that his sister doesn't need him anymore. Will he find that pretending to be a family with Cayla and Maddie soon turns into a very real bond?

Cayla and Holt are a great couple. It was obvious that their marriage was going to become real even before the actual wedding because their chemistry was so strong. I loved how they both had demons and baggage but were able to work through them with each other's help, and found love when neither was looking for it or ever expected to find it one day. There's a nice circle of friends here and I'm really excited to read as each of their stories gets released.

I don’t know how she manages it, but this talented author delivers another jewel in her already arsenal of wonderful stories.
We are back with the Bad Boy Bakers, former elite military men that have found a new place in their lives as civilian and bakers.
Holt Steele, a former Army Ranger, enjoys his new home in the quiet Tennessee town, where he and his friends are about to open a bakery.
Holt has vowed not to get married and have kids. At a very young age, he was forced to become the caretaker of his younger sister. Add to that the fact he’s an amputee, and his self image is not the best. But he has to admit that Maddie, the daughter of the young wedding planner has grabbed his heart. So has her mom, Cayla Black.
But they both have baggage and neither Cayla or Holt are looking for a relationship.
That all changes when Holt comes to her rescue and a marriage of convenience takes place.
But what happens when feelings get in the way? What happens when Cayla’s past comes back to destroy the life she’s carefully created?
This was another wonderful addition to the series. Though a stand alone, I would highly recommend reading book one to get a better enjoyment of the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Booksprout. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I find it quite delightful that Holt & friends have a bakery in a small town, especially since Holt is a former Army Ranger because they are the best of the best in the Army. Of course being the bad a** that he was, things happened, and he lost his leg which is why he has a new direction in his life, but that missing leg really did a number on this amazing man's confidence which had me wanting to crawl through my kindle to hug him hard. However, fate put a feisty single mom in his path, and despite the fact that neither are interested in any sort of relationship, the heart wants what the heart wants. See, our single mom Cayla is trying to actually build a life for her adorable tiny human, so she doesn't have the time or inclination for anything serious with anyone. I know I fell hard for the former ranger who sings Disney songs to her tiny human, and fell even harder when Cayla's past comes back to cause mayhem as we see the bada** ranger come out to play because he's going to protect them. I LOVED this story with all its sweet with heat, all the feels, an adorable tiny human scene stealer, and some suspense so you seriously can't go wrong with Wrapped Up with a Ranger! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

All Cayla wants is to move forward from her disastrous marriage and provide her daughter with the best life she can. She is focused on her event business and isn’t looking for a relationship but that is about to change when her past resurfaces, and Holt is there with the perfect solution.

After his military career ended due to an injury, Holt and his friends decided to open a bakery. He may be attracted to Cayla and enchanted by her daughter Maddie but due to his past he didn’t believe that was part of his future until he finds out they are being threatened and there is nothing he won’t do to keep them safe.

This is a heartwarming story about love and family that is sure to warm your heart. Neither Cayla nor Holt thought a relationship was in their future but sometimes the best things happen under the most unlikely of circumstances.

This story was so sweet! I loved Holt. He's a Ranger, but he's also a baker. Swoon. He's very loyal and protective. Even thought he's not wanting to get involved with Cayla, he feels he needs to protect her from her criminal ex-husband. This leads to a marriage of convenience. I always enjoy this trope. Will they or won't they? There's a few misunderstandings, but a lot of sparks fly. I love how Holt is with Cayla's daughter. Super sweet and just the right amount of steamy. Don't miss this romance! Great summer read! 4 stars!

Warning: The blurb is a little misleading! This is no grumpy hero; he sings too much.

The hero is almost pure cinnamon roll (well...that, and he is a baker.)

The runaway heroine {from her nasty ex}/protector hero trope is strong in this one.
The hero steps up, executing all the protector moves, jumping into the role of father, and even alleviating the heroine of many of her burdens.

However, everything was a little too surface level, and the conflict with the ex came off forced, due to the pacing of the plot.

This one has about a level 2 steam and representation for disability (hero is an amputee).
Cayla and Holt are a sweet couple and there are readers who will love their neat story; yet, they are characters who had potential to be more complex. The story just wouldn't let them.
This reader just needs more depth. Not all the time, but especially when there's a premise for it.
Don't tease me only not to follow through.
Happy Reading.

Holt and Cayla’s marriage of convenience is an entertaining romance between an event planning single mom, her precocious 5 year old daughter Maddie, and a bad boy baker whose karaoke Disney skills are beyond compare. I liked Holt’s protective nature, his past experience with parenting, and the adorable chemistry that blooms between him and Maddie. Cayla has worked tirelessly to make a home for her daughter after her painful divorce and the danger that ensues with the sudden appearance of her ex throws them all into a tailspin. I wish Holt’s military service, the loss of his leg, and his subsequent psychological trauma had been part of the story but it wasn’t included. On top of that I was disappointed that the truncated story culminated in a quick fix to Cayla’s ex’s dastardly deeds and a rushed happily ever after. The book would have been so much better if the suspense could have played out in a more realistic and detailed way. The shortcuts were problematic and ruined the impact of the story for me. Fortunately the charismatic vocal performances of Amy McFadden and Teddy Hamilton helped somewhat to soften my disappointment.

After experiencing the chemistry between these two in the previous book, I knew this was something I needed to read. And now, having watched Holt with Cayla and Maddie, I’ve determined that he’s a big squishy teddy bear – just one with a grizzly’s protective instincts. This little family was beyond adorable. They made me giggle-snort at some of the more outlandish moments and sigh in pure contentment when they were at their sweetest. I hated to see the demons they were dealing with, but I did like seeing the way everyone pulled together to solve the situation. Since I think I spotted the set-up for more than just the next in this series, I’m dying to find out what else the author has in store for us.

The building romance between Holt and Cayla was good, no doubt about that. And they are both likeable characters. The reason I didn't give this book higher marks is that Cayla's ex-husband is nothing but a stereotype. The reason he's out of prison is kept very vague, as if Nolan didn't feel like doing the research to come up with a valid reason. The FBI seem rather inept because of this. And the fact that Arthur reverts to the crimes that got him arrested in the first place just didn't seem logical. Regardless, the book did hold my interest.

Ending is a cliffhanger into next book in series. Unresolved issues from book one is still not solved. I’m gonna read the next book however, the cliffhangers are keeping these books from being a 4-star. Still unresolved issue from book one and a second one from book two. Not a fan of that!

I have another new author on my favorite list as well as a hot new book boyfriend. Who wouldn't love a protective warrior who can sing Disney toons, bake, and is great with kids?

Holt Steele is a decorated war hero who proudly raised his little sister with no help from his single, weak alcoholic mother. So when the woman he is attracted to and her daughter need protection from her evil ex, his first instinct is to give her a marriage of convenience. Little did he know his new family would break through his many layers and want him to make it permanent.. he would just have to convince them of that.

Cayla Black is an event planner and a single mom to a precocious little girl. Cayla's hands are certainly full, but when her narcissistic ex is released from prison on a technicality and shows up on her doorstep, she is saved by the man of her fantasies. If only he wasn't doing it from some sense of nobility.

Holt and Cayla are made for each other, but being forced into a hasty marriage with their share of baggage on both sides causes some misunderstandings and adapting. There is definitely chemistry there and with a delayed honeymoon by a cock-blocking five-year-old, work, and just life, the final result is very satisfying. With good advice from family and friends and realizing how amazing they truly are, this lovely couple falls in love and works out the twists and turns in their new life. There is some suspense regarding the ex who does some underhanded stuff, but he gets his desserts.

There are many supporting characters including Holt's Bad Boy Bakers co-owners and friends, Jonah and Braxton, Cayla's friends and family, and especially the adorable, chocolate-eating, Maddie who steals the show with her incredible love and rapport with Holt.

This is a steamy, low angst love story with a great family feel and a little suspense added.

Thank you to Ms. Nolan for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Swoons, healing and love

I loved this heartwarming and spicy small town, marriage of convenience, single mom romance with a side of light suspense. Holt and Cayla were portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws and scars from their pasts, but are really just trying to do their best as messy humans. Holt was an army ranger who lost part of his leg during combat. He and his two best friends, also former military, dealt with their PTSD by training as bakers. When one of the three inherits an old rundown bar in small town Eden’s Ridge, they decided to turn it into a bakery. Cayla is an event planner and single mom to 5 year old Maddie. Despite their attraction and chemistry, neither Holt nor Cayla have any interest in a relationship. Until Cayla’s white collar criminal husband gets out of prison and threatens to take Maddie. Then, a marriage of convenience seems like an obvious answer and the excuse they needed. Of course, the relationship begins to feel real very quickly. I was so glad that Maddie was a wonderful and integral addition to the story rather than a flimsy story prop. The story would not have been as rich and well rounded without the full development and inclusion of her character. I especially loved the way the bumps in Holt and Cayla’s relationship are handled in this story, they are both willing to look at, acknowledge, and take responsibility for their own issues and discuss them in order to strengthen their bonds without first blowing up their relationship. This well written story had a good balance of all the things I love in romance - humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, spice, healing, with intense, strong and likeable characters. I am excited to read more about the bad boy bakers in this small town and now I am going to listen to some Disney songs.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥

I adore bad boys, and I adore baking. When you combine both, I am most definitely here for it.

Holt is tired of being pitied. A former vet that lost a leg during his military service, he is wary of the sad looks that everyone, especially women, throws her way. This changes when he gets different kinds of looks from Cayla, an event planner in their small town, but it couldn't possibly be what he thinks it is. Right?

Cayla is a single mom whose focus is solely on her daughter Maddie and her business, but when a Disney-singing former Ranger comes barging into their lives and saves them from Cayla's ex-husband, how can she resist this magnetism between them?

I really enjoyed the cute small-town, single-parent romance. Just like the baked goods he sells, Holt is a sweet cinnamon roll who is overly protective of Cayla and Maddie. It was great to see them slowly chip away at the stone he built around his heart, just like he has worked to earn Cayla's trust and eventually affection.

I love the little bit of suspense in this read. It was good to see Holt and his ex-military buddies in action.

This is Book Two of the Bad Boy Bakers series, but it can be read as a standalone with no cliffhangers. We do get to meet the other characters involved in the other books.

Holt was a former Army and he is a master baker. He is one of the business owners of the Bad Boy Bakers and they want to open the bakery in a small town. He is an amputee due to a shrapnel incident and he wears a prostheses to help him. He is not looking for a relationship especially with someone who has a child but he offers to help with her office.
Cayla Black owns an event planning business and she is a single mom. She was born in the same town and she loves her daughter. She does not want to entertain anyone since raising a child is a difficult responsibility and she also has a business to take care of.
Holt along with his buddies has a soft opening for the bakery. The townspeople bought almost all the goods and they made a lot of money. He noticed that Cayla did not visit the shop but he presumed that she must be busy with her clients. Then, he comes to rescue Cayla when she sees her ex-husband by suddenly saying that he is her current husband. He tells her that accepting his marriage offer is a good idea if her ex plans to take custody of the child since he will protect them both.
Cayla did not expect that her ex-husband will be free from prison and standing in front of her. When Holt shows up, he states to her ex that they are married but she is worried that he will do something worst to get them back. She worries about her daughter's safety, thus, Holt convinces her to marry him for their protection. She has feelings for him but she does not know whether he will regret the marriage life with her in the end. However, danger lurks as they encounter problems that affect their relationship. Can she finally be free? Can Holt will finally live happily with his family?
Cayla is a cheerful, kind, sweet, funny, smart, and beautiful, diligent, and a courageous woman. Holt is a kind, caring, protective, strong, perceptive, noble, selfless, attentive, funny, intelligent,
loyal, and a hard working man. The story is interesting to read and it has a good plot. The characters have a good personality and they got an amazing chemistry. It is a must read book as it has action, suspense, drama, romance, and swoon worthy scenes that will definitely capture your heart as the story develops. I love the heartwarming moments of their family and the strong camaraderie with his friends. I enjoyed reading the book and I love how Holt and Cayla have a HEA ending

4.25 Stars! ❤️

After having read Mixed Up With A Marine i couldn’t wait for more! As soon as i found out that Holt was getting his very own book i was so happy! I started counting down the days until i could pick this one up! I started reading it as soon as i could and got right back into the Bad Boy Bakers world! I really enjoyed this second installment!

Holt and Cayla’s journey was so quick to capture my attention! When Cayla’s ex husband comes back into her and her daughter Maddie’s lives, Holt offers a marriage of convenience to keep them safe.

I really liked getting to see these two tackle things in their lives, especially when it came to what was thrown their way, their marriage, and their feelings. I was so glad that i got to dig deeper with both Holt and Cayla while reading. They’d been through things in their lives and they showed such realness. The chemistry between them was so great! Cayla was a strong character and Holt got into my heart. They both had me feeling so much throughout!

My book loving heart was so happy to be back in the town of Eden Ridge, Tennessee! I adored the whole grumpy/sunshine aspect of this story! I so enjoyed what the other characters brought to the story, especially Maddie!

With Wrapped Up With A Ranger, Ms.Nolan has created such a great read that brought the feels! I can’t wait to dive back into the Bad Boy Bakers world with the third installment, Jonah’s book Stirred Up By A Seal!

I always love Kait Nolan's books, and this one is no different.  She just has a way of making you feel like a memeber of the small town community.

This one is about Holt Steel and Cayla Black.  Holt is an ex-Army Ranger amputee and partner in Bad Boy Bakers.  Cayla is a single mom of five year old Maddie and an event planner.  Her office is acroos the street from the bakery.  Cayle's ex-husband is serving time for Identity Theft.  Cayla moved back home after she found she was pregnant and what her ex was paying for their lavish life style in San Francisco after to turns over what she found to the FBI.

Holt has a soft in his heart for Maddie, she reminds him of his own sister who he raised and loves Disney movies.  He also has feelings for Cayla too but tries to convince himself he doesn't want anything to do with the single mom, been there done that already.  Unfortunately for Holt, Cayla's ex shows up after being released on a technicality he comes back to get what he feels is his, Cayla and Maddie.  She doesn't know what to do, so she hopes she sent Holt an audio text for help.  Holt shows up and this leads to Holt saying he is Cayla's current husband.

In order to protect Cayla and Maddie, Holt talks Cayla into marrying him until her ex can be behind bars once again.  It is only a marriage of protection.   Once her ex is back in prison they can move on to live their own lives.

I really enjoyed reading how these three pretend to be a family and actually become one without really trying.

Wrapped Up with a Ranger is the second book in the Bad Boy Bakers series. Holt and Cayla have been circling around each other for a while now, both feeling the attraction, but he just wants to remain friends, but all of that changes when Cayla and her daughter are in danger from her ex. What starts as a marriage of convenience starts to feel very real, but will Holt be able to keep his girls protected?

This was such a fantastic book! I love marriages of convenience, mixed with single moms, plus add in a bit of a grumpy hero with a heroine that has hope and sunshine, and I’m a goner! I adored Cayla, Holt, and Maddie, I loved their connection and their ups and downs they needed to navigate to find their happily ever after. Cayla was so strong, not just because she was a single mom and ran her own business, but also because she stood up for herself, she protected those around her, and she remained hopeful even in the midst of darkness. Holt had a bit of an inner struggle when it came to Cayla. He wanted her so fiercely, but thought he never wanted to be married or raise children again. But I loved how he acted around both Cayla and Maddie, I loved his protective nature, and I loved his drive. They made an amazing team, in and out of the bedroom, and I just loved how their relationship developed. Her past created a nice tension throughout the whole book, but I was definitely invested in this family! I loved this book! I am loving this series, and I am so excited for the next book!

As an ARC reader, this is my honest opinion.

Holt and Cayla, it's nothing new that newlyweds have adjustments to make. It was refreshing though to see an old-fashioned idea of marriage before intimacy with today's mentality. The close-knit family ties amongst Holt's military brotherhood and their friends were really felt. How they stood by each other, were there for one another through good and bad times, and even the close sisterhood amongst Cayla's friends was strong. The whole community and characters were believable enough I could picture myself there observing everything firsthand. Even the topic of identity theft and being victims of the fraud against them hits home. The process in notifying everyone, going to the police and even going on the federal government website to make a report only to be told there wasn't anything I could do to fix what was done is nerve wracking. So overall, once again you've written another amazing story! I'm anxious to see if Brax and Mia or Holt and Cayla end up expecting in Jonah's story. What I love the most in the Wishful, Misfit Inn and now this series is how it's like coming home for vacation and everyone is there in each story, each visit.

Wrapped Up with a Ranger by Kait Nolan is a wonderful, heartwarming story, I could not put down, about love and family that is sure to warm your heart. We are back with the Bad Boy Bakers, former elite military men that have found a new place in their lives as civilian and bakers. This story features former Army Ranger Holt Steele and the woman who broke through his barriers, single mum, event planner, and her adorable little girl, Maddie. It is difficult to not fall for Holt, especially when he’s singing Disney tunes with Maddie. All Cayla wants is to move forward from her disastrous marriage and provide her daughter with the best life she can. She is focused on her event business and isn’t looking for a relationship but that is about to change when her past resurfaces, and Holt is there with the perfect solution; a marriage of convenience in order to support and protect Cayla and Maddie. Holt might not have planned on ever getting married, but the magnetic attraction and sizzling chemistry between him and Cayla is helping to make this marriage appear more real, each day they are together. Now to figure out a way to keep Cayla’s ex and her past from destroying their future together. I highly recommend Wrapped Up with a Ranger to other readers and can’t wait for the next book.

Holt and Cayla's story warms my heart. I've read Kait Nolan's books for so long and she keeps surprising me with her excellent work to create a new book that has a great plot while still focuses on a couple. Holt Steele is done for being a babysitter and he is ready to start his new life as a baker but when he met Cayla and her daughter, he just can't help it. Cayla is a strong and smart single mother and she has done well with her daughter and her business until her past catches her off guard. Luckily Holt is around and his protectiveness kicks in. Their relationship may started with faking it but at the end, they make it real. The story is enjoyable and even has a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. The plot is also thickened with a danger from Cayla's past and the suspense that has been continued from the first book. I love it though because it isn't too much and overshadowed of Holt and Cayla's romance. Cayla needs to build her trust in men and Holt is good for the task. He is also a swoon-worthy one! One thing I feel while I was reading this book is he makes me swooning over everything he did for Cayla and her little girl. I maybe a little bit skeptical in fake relationship romance but Holt and Cayla's story is definitely a good one and I'm so happy for both of them to finally get their own happy ending.

I dare you to read this book and not fall in love with Holt Steele, former Ranger, injured war hero, baker, and good guy/badass I know that I did. Holt represents everything excellent we want to see in our elite military. He’s a friend, a protector, a committed business partner; he’s kind, loving, and willing to fight to protect what’s his.

Cayla Black is a single mother, a party planner, and an ex-wife. She’s always living on the brink due to concern that her imprisoned ex-husband will come back and try to retake control of her life. No matter what, she’s determined to protect her daughter Maddie from anything that will keep her from living a normal, happy life.

Events force Holt and Cayla together. It’s a wonderful journey watching as they work through a myriad of problems that come hurtling toward them. Even more delightful to watch Holt transform from a tough, grumpy man into a sweet and caring one.

This is the third book in this series. I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend this book, and the entire series.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from Booksprout for giving my two cents. We met Holt and Cayla in previous book. Holt is one of the Bakers who lost his leg in the army and Cayla is a single mother of a beautiful little girl who is an event planner. Cayla can't help but like Holt...afterall he sings Disney songs to her daughter....insert melting heart. Holt doesn't want kids...he raised his sister after his mother decided it was better for her to wallow then to raise her children...but there is smtg about the little girl that melts his heart and her mother makes his libido take notice. Cayla comes from a troubled past..she was the dotting housewife for a controlling husband who happened to be embezzling millions of dollars...the hardest thing Cayla done was turn him in to the feds...but now he is getting out on a technicality...OMG...talk about nerves...he wants and his daughter and will stop at nothing to get them. Insert Holt...he comes to bring her goodies when her ex-husband is at her store and boom....protectiveness kicks in...and to keep them both safe he suggests they get married. Holy smokes...Cayla cannot believe her ears...she can't possibly....but her life and life of her daughter is on the line...what's the worst that could happen? Great book by Kait as usual!!
