Stephen B. Bevans SVD s-a nascut la 14 iulie 1944, este profesor emerit de "Misiune si Cultura" la Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, in Statele Unite ale Americii si preot al congregatiei religioase Sociems Verbi Divini (SVD). In 1986 a obtinut doctoratul in teologie la Universitatea Notre Dame, Indiana.
A publicat lucrari importante in domeniul misiologiei: John Oman and His Doctrine of God (Cambridge, 1992); Models of Contextual Theology (Orbis, 1992, 2002); impreuna cu Roger Schroeder, Constants in Context: A Theology of Mission for Today (Orbis, 2004); impreuna cu Jeffrey Gros, Evangelization and Human Freedom: "Ad Gentes" and "Dignitatis Humanae" (Paulist. 2009); An Introduction to Theology in Global Perspective (Orbis, 2009); impreuna cu Roger Schroeder, Prophetic Dialogue: Reflections on Christian Mission Today (Orbis, 2011). Volumul de fata aduna mai multe articole si studii cu caracter misionar, publicate de-a lungul anilor de Stephen B. Bevans, toate oferind o buna orientare in teologia misionara elaborata de el.
