I can’t get them here, at the magical prep school from hell. I need to get kicked out so I can be sent to reform school.
That’s where all my delicious future recruits
The Icefire anarchist with a subarctic glint in his pale blue eyes; the arrogant, talented, and bored billionaire playboy; the tattoo-covered Tock with fingers stickier than honey…
I need to get into the magical academy for delinquents so that I can convince all of them to help me steal something.
But it’s just business. Nothing more. It doesn’t matter how handsome or sarcastic or tempting they are. Because I’d never let anyone steal my heart.
AHHHHH slow burn reverse harem in an academy setting with tons of magic?? YES!
I've read several of Ann Denton's books and I absolutely love her writing style. This book is super addictive, with hilarious dialogues and extremely hot males! It's amazing how each of the love interests in this story has an unique relationship dynamic with the female-lead. This was also the case with her Tangled Crown reverse harem fantasy series!
Hayley is after one thing and one thing only: to find a cure to save her brother from vampirism, a condition that transforms the person into a feral blood sucking monster. She is determined to recruit the the best of the best to aid her with her heist, even if that means having to do the unthinkable in order to join the Magical Academy for Delinquents, A.K.A, MAD.
The romance is a slow burn throughout the story, which only makes the build up more and more exciting for when the steam gets real! Zavier was my favorite from the beginning, with his flirty jokes and uplifting spirit. Gray quickly turned into a favorite also, their pranks were hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud while reading. I can't wait to see their relationship develop even further in the next book.
The ending was 😱😱, I hate Claudia with everything I have, Ann Denton truly knows how to write a despicable villain! Need to dive in to book 2 immediately to see what's going to happen!
Magical Academy for Delinquents It’s official: Ann Denton writes some of the most entertaining books I’ve ever read. While academy settings aren’t always my favorites, MAGICAL ACADEMY FOR DELINQUENTS merges it with some things I simply cannot resist: magic, morally gray characters, a heist, and hot men. Add to that the Ocean’s Eleven vibes, and you get a book that was impossible to put down.
The plot was incredibly engaging and filled with twists, but what made this book shine were the characters, and the relationships between them. I loved Hayley as a protagonist. She had the clever, tactical genius of Danny Ocean with all the wit and snark of Rusty (yes, I’m still using Ocean’s Eleven references), and I loved seeing the very different evolution of her relationship with each of the boys in her team. Given that this is a reverse harem, I truly appreciate the time the author takes not only to develop each love interest, but how diversified the relationships are. Whether you love a comic-relief tattooed boy, an intense blond hottie, a prankster gangster or are weak in the knees for the brother’s-best-friend shifter mister (or all of the above), you’ll find something to love. I personally can’t even choose a favorite, but I will say that Evan (the shifter mister) probably ended up being the one I found most surprising! I’ve already read the Tangled Crowns series by Ann Denton, so while Magical Academy for Delinquents was a confirmation of how well she can develop a reverse harem for me, I firmly believe newbies to this dynamic could absolutely try it with this book and fall in love with it.
I will warn you: the book ends on a gasp-out-loud note, so you’re going to want to dive into the sequel right away. I know I did!
Delinquents Turned Fugitives DELINQUENTS TURNED FUGITIVES was a great conclusion to the Pinnacle duet. While I did find it a little less action-packed compared to the first book, the banter between Hayley and the boys made it equally entertaining, and it reserved its own surprises! I wasn’t expecting it, but I now have a new favorite: Andros. The scenes between him and Hayley were explosive and definitely the hottest in the entire duet. I was a bit hesitant about having a new addition to the harem, but I completely changed my mind the more I read of these two interacting. I still think I would have liked to see a little more of Hayley with Z and Gray, but overall I am pleased with the development of the relationships and the way the story wrapped up.
Now I want more! There are some aspects that have yet to find their resolution, which make me hope that we’ll be getting more stories in this world eventually. I sure hope so because this has now become one of my favorite heist stories.
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. All opinions are my own.
Oh boy I just love Ann Denton’s writing and worlds.
The sass, the humor, the magic. I love love love Hayley and her powers. I was super interested in the world right away. And Evan pulled me right in.
This so perfect for fans of academy settings and tons of pranks. Lots of sexy interaction and tension and medium burn reverse harem. Though I’ve come to realize I personally am not a huge fan of the academy settings anymore but Ann made it so fun.
The premise was very interesting. The fact that magical spells are done to basically level up to being a shifter and if it fails then you become a vampire. It was a brand new take that I’ve not read before and I loved it. So many emotions through these.
Snag this duology and you will not be sorry. The duet has bonus scenes as well!
Ann Denton is single-handedly making me fall in love with the reverse harem genre. This book has all the characteristics I love: an intriguing plot with an interesting magic system to go with it, a strong female protagonist, likable characters, and four swoon-worthy guys deserving of all my attention: Evan, the brother’s best friend and childhood crush; Malcolm, the intense and very intelligent anarchist; Grayson, her nemesis; and Zavier, the sassy thief. Basically, the kind of love interests I’m weak in the knees for. Hayley’s chemistry with all of them was amazing, and thank goodness I don’t have to choose a favorite. Especially when it comes down to Evan, Malcolm and Grayson.
Besides the romance, I really appreciated the core of the plot, which all hangs on Hayley’s love for her brother Matthew and her desire to save him—and thus, the heist element of the book, which was super fun! Sibling bonds are one of my favorite things to see in books and ironically, one of those things I don’t often see. Despite Matthew not being present, I felt like I got to know him through Hayley’s memories and her determination to help him. I hope we get to see him in the next book, because I think he has all the cards for being a favorite character. I also adored the academy setting!
Thank you to the author for gifting me the paperbacks! Opinions are my own.
If you’re new to the Pinnacle duet - enjoy! But even if you’ve already read MAD and DTF this no set of the duet is definitely worth the re-read, for the story itself and the bonus scenes!
I freaking loved these books. They had me laughing out loud so much. Toddler Tourette is all I have to say. Great characters, lots of action, humor, and steam. I definitely recommend this!
