With over four decades of experience guiding individuals toward soul realization, she blends clinical insight with celestial wisdom to create transformational tools for healing and connection. Her latest novel, Beyond Aquarius, is a radiant tapestry of romance, astrology, and self-discovery—inviting readers to expand their hearts beyond traditional boundaries. A celebrated speaker and cultural commentator, Dr. Freed continues to inspire global audiences with her visionary voice, playful spirit, and profound commitment to love as a revolutionary force.
dr. freed's writing is concise and engaging which swept me along each chapter quickly despite her early recommendation to take the chapters a month at a time. she conveys each concept clearly, and each concept is easy to read, but inevitably, any reader would benefit from revisiting each chapter and thinking deeply about how to shape their ongoing personal growth. i think the final sentence of the book is very fitting: "we are here for but a brief flicker in time. why leave anything on the table?"
she did lose me a bit in the final chapter regarding psychic abilities. do i think we're tapped into some degree of cosmic intuition? yes. do i think anyone is actually psychic, in the sense that we can anticipate and predict the future based on absolutely no information? no. but, i think we pick up on more information than what our prefrontal cortex recognizes, and expanding that awareness i think feels pretty cosmic.
I just finished my first read through of this one and I already plan to read it a second time through. I would recommend reading with a pen in hand as there are so many insightful pieces of information/a lot of spots for you to physical circle and underline to better understand your soul. I'll be going back with a blank notebook so I can answer all of the prompts more deeply!
Although the author stated you do not NEED your birth chart, I loved having mine nearby to reference. It provided a deeper experience for me than I think it would've without my chart.
Having a rudimentary understanding of astrology and an abiding interest in consciousness studies, I was drawn to this book by the description of psychological astrology, the role of nature through the four elements, and the beautiful cover. The intended readers are people who know the answers they seek are within and are open to guidance and support in that process.
As both an experienced clinical psychologist and a practicing astrologer, the author poses the question, “What would it mean to live a ‘fully expressed life’ through becoming aware of your innate gifts and living in balance with nature?” She then offers a means to achieve this through an intriguing blend of your “soul map and star map” as revealed through 12 domains, which correlate to the 12 houses in astrology.
The author suggests taking either 12 weeks or a full year to explore the domains through the assessments, exercises and illustrative case studies included in the chapters. The material is clear, well organized and provides ample opportunities for both novices and those more experienced with astrological systems to gain insight and self-awareness. The appendices provide basic introductions to astrology and the significance of the houses.
I have not had the opportunity to fully complete the 12 domains in order to write a timely review. However, I have found the chapters to be illuminating and will continue to work through the process. Having my astrology chart added significant depth to the process and suggestions are made for those who wish to obtain a free personalized chart of their own.
Overall, I found this self-guided journey to be beneficial and practical in synthesizing psychological principles, spiritual/soul attributes and astrological data.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A Map to Your Soul is one of the most unique self-help books I have read. It is written by a woman who is not only an astrologer but who also holds a PhD in psychology. In twelve steps, complete with many quizzes and self-assessments, readers learn to recognize areas of strength and weakness and to address these characteristics with the goal of living a "fully expressed life". As someone with no background in astrology, I found the book to be easily accessible and enlightening. An interest or background in astrology would add another layer for an even deeper experience. I thought this was a fun, new way of looking inward. I received a free copy from Rodale Books in exchange for an unbiased review.
If you are into Astrology and want to dig deeper into your chart, this is the book for you! The writing style is casual and I love the use of client readings as examples because the author is able to show how the chart can apply to someone's life in a real way.
The author suggests taking a week to put each week into practice which would be a great way to REALLY make the best use of the information in this book. It would also be helpful to have your chart already printed out so you can easily refer to it as you are going through different concepts. It's less basic information and more of an in-depth dive into learning to read a chart.
Once again, Dr. Jennifer Freed strikes gold with with an enlightening and accessible book. In a world that often feels overwhelming and can be challenging to navigate, A Map To Your Soul give tools to go inward, understand, heal, and affirm. I was left with a sense of calm and clarity, and a renewed commitment to support myself and those around me, to embrace the beauty and magnificence of this life. This is a glorious gift and one that I will exuberantly share with many in my life.
Again - astrologically curious. I listened - and it would be so much better reading with your chart accessible as well as going through all the quizzes. Planning on doing it with my partner a month/chapter at a time. I think there is so much that is just curious and fascinating!
A friend recommended this book to me, but I found it to be less about astrology and more about the four elements and how to best incorporate all of them into each aspect of your life. I found it to be interesting and helpful.
Great for an astrologer library or for beginners - intermediate level of understanding. Sometimes going slowly through our own chart can bring about profound insights! Thank you Jennifer for all your contributions to astrology!
Absolutely loved this book. It taught me so much and changed my perspective on life in the best way. I definitely recommend this book to everyone- especially if you’re into astrology.
It's a very interesting book going through astrology with the elements. I found that this made me think a lot more about my chart plus gave me some exercises to come back to.
