I remodeled my new home & made a very small prayer room with one bookshelf & a wingback chair. God had me in there every morning at 3 A.M. to pray. I listened/participated in praise & worship then tried to pray. 1-2 minutes later I would be finished. But it felt unfulfilling & I had committed an hour per day with God. So, I asked him to show me HOW to pray for an hour. God created us to COMMUNE with ( communicate) so I knew this was His will. Suddenly I decided to rearrange the bookshelf. I found this book COULD YOU NOT TARRY ONE HOUR in the shelf- so I read it! I was amazed at the revelation given & in it recommend THE NAMES OF GOD. I said,” I definitely want to get that book! In finishing rearranging the shelf a book fell out onto the floor- THE NAMES OF GOD! So, I read that one too. Ultimately- the combination of these two books information CHANGED THE WAY I PRAYED FOREVER. & when I prayed in this manner- GOD SHOWED UP & COMMUNICATED WITH ME! He actually started speaking to me out loud & was participating in my daily life of me & my children. He even told me to “pick up the phone” 3 x’s out loud soft, then increased intensity, then AGAIN INTENSITY until I kept from the bed & answered. I said the phone didn’t ring. Then - but I’m comfortable. When my eyeballs were shaking & it felt like an earthquake from intensity I awoke fully & answered. He was tattle taleing on my teen daughter but allowed me to hear her phone conversation from herself! That’s how MUCH HE CARES & wants us to communicate with Him. He prophesied thru me about the death of my mother-in-law just before it happened. He revealed secrets to the universe & biotechnology to me. wow~~ you know what? It is so slow to read a book in English for me~ hahaha but I guarantee you guys that this book is so amazing~ Even one guy can change the world...if he or she prays just one hour a day... :)
I read books about prayer because I find that it keeps my own prayer life fresh and continually renewed.
In this book the author gives some fresh perspectives on how we should approach prayer and how it develops and maintains our relationship with God.
The author also covers the our relationship with Holy Spirit and the Spirits assistance and guidance regarding who to pray for and how to pray.
I am not one of the praying in tongues brigade as the author is but that component does not take away from the valuable and pragmatic perspective the book has, and the many practical and inspiring examples of types and methods of prayer outlined.
The book also contains a built in review/study section at the end of each chapter that helps you more deeply understand what you are reading about.
There is always the controversy surrounding the author that might dissuade you from reading but this is actually a solid book on the practice of prayer and your relationship with Holy Spirit.
This book is too full of Pentecostal anecdotes that distract from the message of how to pray. To me, these "amazing" anecdotes give the impression that if you just have the discipline to pray every day for an hour then, shazam, God's magic will happen, and you will be changed. But that is not how people change, and not how God's word helps and guides one to change. The author is correct, it takes discipline to genuinely pray, and one must develop that discipline and habits to make it work. But the Pentecostal misunderstanding of the Holy Spirit skews this book in the wrong direction and may even lead one to disappointment and possible rejection of God once it is apparent the "shazam magic" is not going to happen. There are some good, strong points about prayer, praying and how to do so in the book, but one has to wade through the televangelist hyperbole and anecdotes to get to these points.
Interesting personal testimony and life experiences
Good teaching on using the Lord’s Prayer as a model for praying - written in the style of an old Pentecostal preacher, so it reads more like a series of sermons, but that’s an observation, not a criticism - I’d quibble on a few points of interpretation and application of Scripture and of applying one person’s experience to another’s, but nothing serious - worth the read if you want to learn a new, Scriptural approach to improving your prayer life -
Me, me, me...money, money, money. Every chapter contained both of these. This would have been a good pamphlet without them. Didn't realize this was a word of faith televangelist when I agreed to read the book. Many scriptures taken out of context.
I remember that the self-introduction of the auther appeared very suspicious and questionable to me, when I read it. But I don't remember any particularly false teaching in this book.
One of the best book about prayer. This will build you up and help you on your prayer life. I love it talks about Jesus prayer and breaks it down so is understandable but relevant.
This book has opened my eyes to the real purpose of saying The Lord’s Prayer. It isn’t just for memorizing. If you want your prayer life to go deeper, read this book.
