Leeann M. Shane's The Distance Between Mercury and Venus, shows that when hearts are in the mix anything is possible for an unforgettable read!
History seemed set on repeating itself when Harper Gatlin's family returned to her father's home town, Duchesne, Utah, and she was instantly drawn to the son of her father's teenage rival Carl Halifax and her father's lost first love. It was not long before it became apparent that Adrien Halifax was as far from a happy family as Harper was from one yet the two intuitively knew that what they were feeling for each other was good and pure untainted by Adrien's family's dysfunction and the past entanglements of their parents.
As Adrien and Harper's relationship grew their differences were soon out paced by their similarities only to be confronted by secrets that were impossible to conceal. Devastating revelations proved a true testament of this pair's commitment to each other. Adrien and Harper's tenacious love kept them from falling apart but not without testing them to the best of their abilities and often leaving them in situations beyond their skill sets. Ms. Shane did a wonderful job of contrasting traits that showed how young Adrien and Harper were even while displaying a connection that was timeless in its strength and maturity. This story showed how transformative love could be when one was deprived of it as well as how empowering it was when given. There were more than a few pivotal emotional moments in this work giving it meaning and depth.
If you are not reading Leeann M. Shane you really should. Her books are so beautifully constructed, filled with a grace and kindness that steps out of comfort zones bringing topical sensitive subjects to the forefront. Taking on the volatile and uncertain period of young adulthood is her speciality and without a doubt she has a grasp and understanding of this age group that is rare and uncommon in its scope and truths. Navigating through developing fragile coping skills, her portrayals while far from perfect are exceptional in their trying circumstances. Leeann M. Shane's The Distance Between Mercury and Venus was a beautiful and touching story showing the triumph of genuine goodness in a harsh world.
