Louise Hay was born to a poor mother who married Hay's violent stepfather. When she was about five, she was raped by a neighbor. At fifteen she dropped out of high school without a diploma, became pregnant, and on her sixteenth birthday gave up her newborn baby girl for adoption.

She moved to Chicago, where she worked in menial jobs, before moving in 1950 to New York. At this point she changed her name and began a career as a fashion model. She was successful at this, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini, and Pauline Trigere.

In 1954, she married Andrew Hay, but after fourteen years of marriage Louise was devastated when Andrew left her for another woman.

Hay said that she found the First Church of Religious Science on 48th Street, which taught the transformative power of thought. Hay revealed that here she studied the metaphysical works of authors like Florence Scovel Shinn and the Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes.

In the early 1970's Hay became a Religious Science practitioner. In this role she led people in spoken affirmations meant to cure their illnesses. She also became popular as a workshop leader.

She studied transcendental meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his university in Fairfield, Iowa.

In 1977 or 1978 she found she had cervical cancer, and she concluded that its cause was her unwillingness to let go of resentment over her childhood abuse and rape. She refused medical treatment, and began a regimen of forgiveness, therapy, reflexology, nutrition, and occasional enemas, and claims she rid herself of the cancer. She declared that there is no doctor left who can confirm this story, but swore that it is true.

In 1976 Hay wrote a small pamphlet, which came to be called "Heal Your Body." This pamphlet was enlarged and extended into her book You Can Heal Your Life, which was published in 1984. As of February 2008, it is still on the New York Times best sellers list.

Around the same time she began leading support groups for people living with H.I.V. or AIDS that she called Hay Rides. These grew from a few people in her living room to hundreds in a large hall in West Hollywood. Her work with AIDS patients drew fame and she was invited to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Donahue" in the same week in March, 1988.

You Can Heal Your Life immediately landed on the New York Times Best Sellers List. More than 35 million copies are now in print around the world in more than 30 languages and has been made into a movie.

Louise Hay established Hay House Publishing. It is the primary publisher of books and audio books by Deepak Chopra and Doreen Virtue, as well as many books by Wayne Dyer.

In addition to running her publishing company, Hay runs a charitable organization called Hay Foundation that was established in 1985.

The meditations here are brief, a few short paragraphs, and are not meditations in the sense of meditation scripts, but are more extended affirmations on topics in alphabetical order, ranging from Authority to Worth. They are not meant to be read straight through, but referred to as needed, either by selecting a particular subject, or by opening at random and letting the words there speak to your heart. The language is simple, clear, direct and supportive.

Yes, I read a book of affirmations from cover to cover and it was time well-spent. I will pick it up now and then to help me with whatever is stuck, or to remind me of where I am doing well too.

I have loved Louise Hay's work for a long time. Whenever I see any of her books go on sale, I snap them up. I own them in paperbook, e-book format, and even buy extra copies to give as gifts.

I know many people think affirmations are new-age nonsense, but I KNOW better. Done right - with your full intent and your will to do the work, (not just reading the affirmation) they can transform your life.

I used to be a very defensive, sarcastic person who was afraid of people seeing how fragile I was. I have remade myself by working hard from the inside out using affirmations and other healing methods.

Peace

Hi All

This is a must read book for all the self help genre enthusiasts. I am not limiting to anyone by adding this tag. It is an eye opener. This books is not for reading it is to be indulged. The concepts and ideologies are crisp in nature. One need to customize it to their own needs.

If you think through the concept of Louise Hay and her views it is progressive in nature. One need to go through the natural process of transformation. Listening and Patience are eternal virtue to reap the best from this book. These are not solutions this book is only an enabler.

Best way to use this book open up any page daily and connect to day to day pricking problem in life, cash needs, better health, energy, time freedom, harmony, peace, material needs, care, kindness.

You will find a step closer in overcoming these problems.

It all needs faith, faith and faith unconditionally.

Thank You for the wonderful book.

Have given 4 stars to this book is a continuation of You can heal your life and it does not provide with you a new concept.

This book provides you with a methodology to practice the concept of quantum healing.

Brief, positive meditations to use and contemplate daily for a new perspective on reality

I very much enjoyed this book. I liked the format of the book. Ms Hay provides a one sentence meditation on a page, with a one or two paragraph explanation or instruction on the next page. Her spiritual viewpoint, that has no religious bias, is all-inclusive, refreshing, inspiring and insightful.

Although there were a few meditations that I did not agree with, overall I received much benefit from these thoughts and positive perspectives. Everyone would benefit from this book whether or not their life needs healing.

This author & book are a must-read. I know this is basically a bunch of quotes & sayings but you know something, it is really insightful. Like it absolutely makes you think. These may be simple, some a bit more thought-provoking & pretty damn helpful. I think it's just what I needed that simply makes sense. The author comes up w/ things that you really don't ponder or talk about. I highly recommend it. Pretty quick read too.

Will reread over and over

This is not a one time read. It’s something I want to read over again to refresh and go deeper. The words of Louise Hay are so powerful and positive and she puts the messages in such a simple way. I suggest reading a max of a few meditations per day to absorb them properly.

This is a wonderful book. You can read it cover to cover or a random page at a time. You can read it to your loved ones or with your loved ones. Every new reading will be a delight. It includes recipes for living your life and enjoying it. The book is arranged alphabetically so you can search for any topic if you feel the need to. A definite keeper.

I've lived Louise Hay's work for nearly 30 years now. I cobbled together her "new thought processes" with self hypnosis tapes years ago and "cured" my body of the horrors of endometriosis that had plagued me since my teens. This book was another gentle, loving book which, if applied over time, can cause significant positive changes in your life.

Beautiful meditations

This is a collection of wonderful meditations and affirmation by Louise L. Hay. It is best to record the meditations so you can listen to them while doing them rather than trying to read them while meditating.
