Oh the bunnies! Man I love the art style and atmosphere of Rabituza, I mean everything is so aesthetic and fun and ever rabbit bad*ss inhabitant I come across and get added into the fold it just adds that much for fun and excitement also getting to see some of these further more advanced game cities as the adventures continue in is so much fun, not to mention my favorite section from the anime was the crystal scorpions arc and getting to start into that at the tail end of this volume was just the icing on top. I still feel like this is an underrated series that a lot more people are gonna jump into once they stop sleeping on it but until then I just keep enjoying my secret joy. 3.75/5

Another great volume! This volume has some great action as well as interesting developments about the wider world of Shangri-La Frontier. After the end of the last volume and the events that transpired, it's clear that Sunraku and his group are shaking up expectations for the Shangri-La Frontier game. This adds a fascinating component that elevates the series beyond just a really good story about exploring a video game. I'm excited to see how that is integrated further into the plot going forward.

[THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE 2022 JAPANESE RUN OF SHANGRI-LA FRONTIER, SO OF THE VOLUMES FROM 1 TO 6]

Shangri-La Frontier bases its entire narrative on an ekphrasis, so a description and discovery of an imaginary production into this exact publication, as a world inside the world. In this sense, Shangri-La Frontier takes the whole fantasy subgenre of losing yourself inside a videogame and perfection it with a real knowledge of how these products are structured and developed. So, inside this sort of universe which takes a type of narration similar to Final Fantasy XIV, but with gameplay mechanics taken from Souls-like titles and The Legend of Zelda latest iterations, we will find Sunraku, this obsessed fan of trash games, decided to approach this homonym global mainstream MMO, and he will discover not only mysteries and exclusive contents for a player full of knowledge as him, but he will be ready to encounter old faces and fans, creating groups and making a progress for a title whose narration was still blocked on the 0%. So, Shangri-La Frontier works very well in characterizing the plot with this meta vision of the whole matter, as for exploring a game dimension alongside the main characters, but it makes also emotional all of those readers who have experienced the same sense of wonder, of connection, of exclusivity and forum-talking linked with massive multiplayer experiences. All the terms are here, all the types of progressions and new challenges, all the easter eggs and secrets, all the ways developers decided to create eternal worlds inspired by that Japanese fantasy we all love. A precise intention which unfortunately must make the pair with a simple and not always surprising artistic style, very functional to the aspects of the story we need to follow and clearly taken from a web novel where the written content was predominant, but for important fights the manga takes that extra-step for creating pleasant visuals, especially in this first year of publication inside the last volumes with the struggle against Wezaemon the Tombguard. A fact which balances the rhythm well, as a very simple to follow manga. So, a lore-packed start in which remembering the old good times in which starting a console meant going for a trip to the imagination more than following a devastated medium!

Why am I lowkey more interested in learning more about the stuff that happened in the first chapter of this volume rather than watching Sunraku be a beast of a player? Like….. what is the developers agenda with the game? I just wanna know! (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻

A lot of what I like about manga is in this volume, great art which captures movement and the story, interesting plot, and occasional humor.

A shorter arc or several, after that one mega-arc, to decompress. All those fit nicely in this volume.
