Warrior duke

What an incredible story. This is my first book from this author and it definitely drew me in immediately, I loved that we have a heroine who is hiding from a past, along with the fact she's strong, independent and stubborn, and we have a hero who needs someone that can show him that his war injury is no reason to give up on love. This author is really going to be one I go back to.

The Story Had Promise That Was Broken Rather Quickly

I like my romances with heat, however, there can be too much of a good thing. Without half the sex scenes, this would be a novella. Same ole : the h goes off on her own and yada yada yada. No surprise. Was the H a wicked warrior? No he was so easygoing! I really wanted to love this story, but no can do. Two stars for the work it takes to pen a book.

Too many sex scenes

This was a good plot brought down by too frequent sex scenes which did nothing to advance the story or develop the characters

First, the rating is purely due to that fact that it was just a little bit too steamy for me at times.
This story is about a former soldier, Colonel Royce Davis, who was injured in battle and is loosing his eyesight. He also suffers debilitating headaches. He has become a wealthy landowner and shipping magnate.Enter The heroine , Lilly Moore, who is fleeing from a ruthless killer, and ends up at Royce’s house initially employed as a maid and then becomes his assistant.
Royce has decided not to marry , because he does not want to inflict a wife with a possible blind husband- but things always change in a romance novel!
The killer finds Lily but Royce is there to save the day and all’s well that ends well.
I did enjoy this page turner story, but would have liked a little less sex.

Laura Shipley’s “Seducing the Warrior” is Book 1 in the To Love A Wicked Warrior Series. A story of acceptance and love, it was heartwarming and beautiful.

Wounded in war Royce suffers from excruciating and debilitating headaches and he’s losing his eyesight. He’s come home and while he is still able he is busy building his business. Royce is a man of strength, bravery, courage and kindness. He does have his flaws but they serve to make him more human.

Lily Moore is running from a wicked man who means to kill her. A hundred miles from her home she has found a position as a housekeeper in Royce’s household hoping that the men chasing her have lost her trail. When they meet on a cliff overlooking the sea, Royce failed to tell her that he was her employer. When they meet again at his home she is angered by his deceitfulness which he only meant as a harmless joke. As they get to know one another the sparks begin to fly and she feels empathetic toward his plight. In light of his injuries Royce does not see himself as deserving of love. But that doesn’t stop Lily from falling in love with and or he with her.

This is a beautifully engaging story. The author does a good job of bringing her characters to life and the story unfolds so smoothly. I enjoyed it his story immensely.

Thank you so much Ms. Lane for this sweet love story.

Royce is losing his sight! It was gradually going, but fighting in the war has left him with failing eyesight!!
Laying in a hospital bed, he vows to become a successful business man and leave the idea of a wife and family firmly behind.
Who’s going to want to marry and later care for a blind man?

Lily is on the run! She had been for a while. She needs somewhere to hide and evade her pursuer!

Meeting Lily has Royce in a spin. Can he really offer her a job when his heart is doing crazy things?! He needs to be professional and forget his fiery headed temptress.
Working for Royce will answer her prayers, but he’s so remote, how can she persuade him to allow her to live this new life?

I loved both Royce and Lily, Royce didn’t let his disability stop him from finding his place on the world, but it did make him unsure that Lily could ever look upon him as a man and not just her employer.
Lily is a great character, although tired of running she hasn’t given up on love and life. She fights for Royce, even when he constantly pushes her away.

A new series and a new author for me.
Slow burn romance that has you rooting for Lily, you want her to succeed in her mission to make Royce fall for her.
It will have you turning each page to find out if Lily’s past will catch up to her, and will Royce become her saviour.
Great plot to this new series, and it opens up for fallen hero’s to find their place in a world that will have just thrown them away!
Loved the characters of Royce and Lily

Can’t wait to read book two in the series.

Star Ratings - 1 (poor) - 5(READ THIS BOOK)
· Writing Quality: 4 stars
· Story ingredient: 3.5 - 4 stars
· Ease of reading/Pace: 4 stars
· Plot strength: 3.5 stars
· Steam Level: 5 (open door scenes graphic description scenes)

Notes/Opinion (personal):
Overall, I enjoyed the story. It had a bit of a Beauty and Beast vibe. It was a bit slow to get to the main characters’ relationship and then the steamy scenes seemed to take over the remainder of the story. I liked the imperfect Hero but felt I was left hanging with a few whys as to what their future looked like (but maybe it was intended to be this way). The heroine seemed to be a bit ‘too’ perfect for my liking.
I enjoyed the story overall and look forward to the next installment.

Since returning to England Royce has worked on establishing his business; he had been severely injured while he served in the Maori campaign. Suffering from diabolical head pain that temporary blinds him he is determined never to marry. Lily has run away keeping one step ahead from the man who wishes her dead. Half starved she finds employment. Walking around the property she meets a man, only to discover later he had made a fool of her! Royce is recognises her intelligence and employs her as his assistant!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this engaging entertaining and compelling story! The characters are likeable, relatable and the story is unputdownable!! Story is well written, fast paced, filled with action, intrigue, drama, angst, passion. commitment, forgiveness, suspense, honour, unconditional love, support and understanding. Told from dual POVs reveals intimately their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, as they explore their relationship, and how it deepens from friendship to love. There's an HEA 💓

Not so sure Royce is a warrior he was in the New Zealand wars and suffered excruciating headaches at times!
Lilly was young and sheltered and escaped a madman who murdered her parents.
Royce older and wiser to me seduced her! He didn’t try very hard to not seduce a working woman in his household!? Lilly didn’t plan her life very well either content to just be there without a settled future!?? What if he got tired of her!?
I know he didn’t want to be a burden but you are alone in the world sleeping with a man who is not your husband? You could become pregnant!??
I hated the word used to describe his manly parts it was not a part of the vocabulary at that time!! Really it grated my nerves I literally skipped right over that word and part??!!
Otherwise it had some harsh reminders of war and the lasting effects and to try to seize happiness when it does come!

In Regency times, being blind or near blind can be a terrifying thing. The damage that Royce sustained makes him think he is less than a man. Lily brightens his life, but he won't make her his wife because of his blinding headaches. As they deal with Lily's issues, he finds that Lily will do anything for him. This story reveals the power of love and how a man will do anything to help free a woman from her self imposed prison, even if he loses his heart in the process. The problem with the story is it spent too much time on their love life, and characters created with no purpose to the story. More development on the plot could have made this story much better.
