Rainbow Falls…where life is filled with vivid color.
Olive Green’s world has turned upside down. The future she thought she was building is gone. Now she’s an unemployed CPA forced to move back home and sleep on an air mattress at her sister’s while picking up temp work to survive. Only, this latest temp job requires an NDA before she even goes to the interview. And the man who opens the door? Yeah, he’s not at all what she expected.
Damien Rhoades had it all – or so he thought. His voice was on every country music station, and he had the bank account to prove it. When reality crashed in on him, though, he ran from the bright lights of fame and from the God he’d once promised to serve. Isolation has become his self-inflicted punishment, his way of atoning for past sins too numerous to count and too dark to face. Then Olive bursts into his life driving her muscle car and lighting up his home with laughter.
Can a woman who feels adrift in her life be a guiding light? Will a man barricaded behind walls fortified with shame be strong enough to let the light in?
Heather loves coffee, God, her family, and laughter – not necessarily in that order! She writes approachable characters who, through the highs and lows of life, find a way to love God, embrace each day, and laugh out loud right along with her. And, yeah, her books almost always have someone who's a coffee addict. Some things just can't be helped.
Despite being born into different eras, Heather's characters share a common trait. Like her, they're all flawed...but loved anyway.
If you like contemporary Christian fiction, fun back-and-forth banter, intelligent discussions and a non-friendship-turned friendship-turned-sweeeeet romance, this is the book for you. I absolutely devoured it.
I’d forgotten how fun Heather Gray's books are, mostly because I tend toward historical fiction, and am not much of a contemporary romance fan. But this! This is worth touting.
There’s a fun story about this wonderful town of Rainbow Falls, and the colors so many residents are named after... Amethyst, Violet, Ginger, among many others, and sadly some poor kid named Pewter. But our female character is Olive. She, her two sisters and her friends were called the Rainbow Girls which included Jette Black, Sunny, Tawny, Fern, Jade, Rose, Ruby and Skye.
Anyway, after being laid off from her CPA job and facing a ridiculous car payment, she needed money. Olive took a temp job (with a serious non-disclosure clause) as a personal assistant for a man who she assumed was "Michael Wilcox". What she didn’t know was the man's real name was Damien Rhodes, a famous country/western singer who had an accident, disappeared from the music scene, became a recluse and could no longer use his vocal chords.
Whew, what a way to meet an employer. With a scowl, a door in her face and a nasty attitude toward the only personal assistant this backwater town could provide. But Olive was a professional and took that non-disclosure clause quite seriously, even with the ridiculously nosy Rainbow Girls. Besides, she didn’t even like country music. Eventually what she found in this broken man was someone in emotional pain, suffering guilt over what lead to the accident.
"Nobody should suffer like that. Nobody should be so buried under an avalanche of hurt that it crippled their ability to live. Life was full of pain and heartache, yeah. But it was also filled with joy and color and laughter. Nobody was immune to the bad, and God didn’t intend for anybody to be immune to the good, either. After all, Jesus had come to give His people an abundant and overflowing life, not a characterless cardboard cutout of life. When you got the spiritual stuff down, when you could rest in Christ and know He was in all and over all, it was like the whole world opened up and life was suddenly full of relationships and shining bright colors. And those relationships made the hard times more bearable."
Much of it was fun dialogue, some laugh-out-loud moments, some serious talks about faith, and some amazing surprises.
This was truly creative and so very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to picking up the rest of the books in the series.
You have no idea how excited I was about this new book from Heather Gray. There's just something so uplifting and special about them. Something so fun and yet heartfelt, poignant and deep. Something infinitely inspiring. Olive is all those things and more. It's my favorite of hers yet.
These characters sure tugged at my heartstrings. Country music star Damien Rhoades has been in hiding for the past few years. Ever since the accident, he's pretty much isolated himself from the world and wants as little human interaction as possible. He's dealing with a lot of guilt and self-loathing, and I just really felt for him. I was rooting so hard for him. Olive was super likable. There was something so endearing about her and her purple hair, fun sense of humor, quirkiness, and kindness.
I really loved the message of faith, of trusting God and His will. And the great reminder of His grace and the fact that anything is possible with Him.
I can't say enough good things about this novel. If you're a fan of inspirational contemporary romance, you'll love this story. I highly recommend it!
Rainbow Falls is definitely a heart series. The kind of series where the characters worm their way into your heart. I loved Olive and Damien’s story-a true testament to the healing powers of Jesus!
I have been looking forward to Book 2 in the Rainbow Falls series since I read Skye's story in Book 1 and it was worth the wait. This is a wonderful story of redemption and love. Can't wait for Book 3 this summer.
Best book the author has written and I have read all her books. This book is for everyone having any kind of disappointments in their lives. Look forward to the next book in this series.
I really enjoyed this book. It deals with some hard issues, but God's love, grace and forgiveness come through. Both main characters grow and mature and find their peace with God first, and then with each other. I'm eager to read more in this series.
