If you commit a crime on Vaharis 6, there's more than one way to work off your sentence...
Lennox doesn’t argue when people tell him he’ll never take down the sex trafficking ring that kidnapped his sister—but he doesn’t listen to them either. Reaver and his men took Alexa a decade ago, and no one knew what had happened to her until her body was found in a ditch last year, the brand of a “pet” on the small of her back. Lennox has finally found a way in, and all he needs now is some hired muscle and someone beautiful enough to pass as a pet.
Wesley doesn’t want to be sent deeper into the prison on Vaharis 6. After his friend Kai signs on to be Lennox’s bodyguard, Wesley agrees to pose as a pet so Lennox can infiltrate one of the cartel leader’s private pleasure resorts. The investigator’s attractive enough Wesley takes to his role quickly. They come together as if they were made for each other, and soon the trust they forge starts to feel like something more. But with danger around every corner, and numerous lives on the line, the last thing either of them needs to do is get too attached…
The story is about Lennox, who's an undercover agent and wants to take down a sex trafficking ring, who kindaps people and grooms them into pets, up for sale for very rich buyers. These pets are usually young men and they accompany their owners to private parties, where they partake in orgies or other similar practices.
Lennox goes to Varharis 6 prison to pick men who'll help him on this task, and that's where he finds Wesley, a younger, attractive man, whom Lennox likes immediately. He recruits him as a pet, takes him on a mission along with Kai, who's an alien and is in the role of their bodyguard.
When they're preparing for their roles, Lennox and Wesley have a lot of sex and in the process they start falling for each other. What I really liked here was that Wesley was not some timid guy, always afraid and walking on egg shells, but he was very much courageous and freely wanting to explore the sexual tension with Lennox.
I loved their dynamic, I loved the fact that even though Lennox had the upper hand, Wesley was a really strong character, he wasn't submissive and yet he was and yes, I appreciated that they were vers, that dynamic was really good. I loved the spice, interestingly enough the spice is quite good in these books, especially in this one, even though the story itself wasn't written that well, the start was weak, but much better than all the previous books.
Lennox seemed like a pretty decent guy, he wasn't forcing Wesley to do anything and he was quite protective of him.
When they finally go to the pet party with all the important people who were running this show, they meet another couple there, Tomas and Rylan, now here's the thing, this was yet another couple that I was really interested in, and they really stood out in this story.
Rylan was an undercover agent and from a wealthy family, where his father bought him Tomas as a pet. Rylan was completely against it, but Tomas asked to be kept, because he was really afraid to fall into Rylan's father's hands yet again, so they worked together for this undercover operation and in the meantime they fell for each other, so they were basically a couple and yes, their story is something I'd definitely like to read.
Lennox and Wesley get out of the party alive and well and they rescue a few people along the way, they end up staying together and their love story is pretty darn good, I have to say.
This series should have probably started with this book and work from there, keeping the characters connected, if Tomas and Rylan's story would be next and so on. The series is memorable, the ideas are original, only the writing is what spoils the whole thing, at least for me.
But nevertheless, this story was good. One more to go.
