How did Kenisha Lewis's life go from near perfect to sheer chaos in just a few months? Coping with family tragedy is tough enough without getting kicked out of private school and sent to the local public school, where she's forced to make some major adjustments. New friends (and enemies), new clothes, a hot new guy who might be mixed up in something serious… It's no surprise that those close to her think Kenisha's moving way too fast. National best-selling author, Celeste O. Norfleet, was a late bloomer to romance. But as soon as she picked up her first romance novel, she was hooked. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Celeste is a graduate of Moore College of Art & Design. An art director and graphic designer for many years, Celeste now devotes all of her time to writing and creating romance letting her artistic imagination flow through the computer keys. Her romance novels, realistic with a touch of humor, depict strong sexy characters with unpredictable plots and exciting storylines. Her young adult novels delve into dramatic fiction, reflecting current issues facing African-American teens. Celeste currently writes for Harlequin's Kimani Press Arabesque, Kimani Romance and Kimani Press TRU (young adult) lines. Celeste lives in Virginia with her husband and two teenagers.
After all she went through in Pushing Pause, especially the family tragedy, Kenisha Lewis is ready to leave all the drama behind her and Fast Forward. But drama seems to follow her wherever she goes or she puts herself right in the middle of it. Kenisha is kicked out of the school she went to all of her life, Hazelhurst Academy for Girls, and she makes a choice to attend public school. She hangs around the wrong people and changes, but not for the better. She starts making bad choices and doesn't seem to get it when her "real" friends are concerned. Someone she cares about is affected by her careless decisions, and that is when she takes a good look at herself. I had to overlook quite a bit of profanity, but this was a good read. It would be nice if Kenisha didn't use bad language so much, but I do like her. She's an angry girl (understandable under the circumstances)in this story, but she is also very intelligent and talented. Li'l T is cool and I really like the grandmom; a wise woman who loves and supports her granddaughter, but never condones any bad behavior. Norfleet included words of wisdom and valuable lessons and that's a good thing, but there was something mentioned that I totally disagreed with: It was suggested that a particular person's death was God's will. This person committed suicide. I realize this is not a Christian novel, but I really have to say that God is loving and life is a gift. I do not believe it would ever be God's will for anyone to take his/her own life. Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy. God wants us to live life to the fullest. I feel a responsiblity to readers and, most importantly, the heavenly Father to make the truth known. Norfleet does send a message that is very important: Suicide affects the people left behind.
Fast Forward (Updated) The book opens with Kenisha in the office because she slapped Regan Payne. Who speaking of is sitting across from her staring her down. Before something can jump off again, the security guard steps in. Kenisha did some serious damage to this girl. She slammed her face into the lockers, gave her a busted lip, and pulled her by the hair so hard her tracks are hanging. (Kenisha is now back at Hazelhurst but its different somehow). Kenisha gets a call from Lavon but can’t answer it (because of the secretary). Mrs. Clarkson, Mrs. Hanover, and Kenisha’s father are in the office and they tell her she’ll have to go to counseling and she’ll be “taking a break” from Hazelhurst-with their condolences of course for her mother-. Kenneth spouts some bs about how it’s been a struggle for him and Kenisha and how he doesn’t know what they’ll do without “his wife”. It works tho and charms them into giving her a second chance. But they tell her no more. She has to pick up her grades and act like she wants to be there.
When she goes to find her dad to get her phone back, Mrs. Clarkson has made a call for her to meet with a friend of hers-a psychiatrist-. Instantly, Kenisha feels a disconnect with Dr. Emanuel Tubbs. He’s about 70 or 80 and he’s white. Mostly she just nods, ignores him, and turns his questions around. He plays a word association game with her but she messes with his head. Then he asks her how she feels about certain things like death. Tubbs ask about her mother but Kenisha changes the subject and she finds out the pictures of the man all over the room is Sigmund Freud. Tubbs tells her about him. But then they get back to her mother.
Tubbs asks if Kenisha blames her for getting put out the house and she lies and says no. He asks if she blames her mother and she lies again. He asks if she blames her for dying. Then he tells its it’s okay to be angry because she left her at such an early age. Kenisha says she didn’t *leave* her. She’s dead. Then he talks to her about the stages of grief. Kenisha has to stop herself from juming across the desk and beating *him*. She tells him let’s talk about *his* mother. She points out how their situations aren’t remotely alike. Then he moves on to the fight. Then the session is over. Tubbs tells Kenneth she needs more sessions and tells how how to set them up. Kenneth drops her off at his house and tells her she’ll get through this.
They both admit they miss her. He also says he knows she blames him. He does too. She says she doesn’t. She just doesn’t get him. Kenisha walks in and overhears a conversation Courtney is having with one of her friends venting that Kenneth is doing the same thing to her that he did with her to Barbara. While she’s talking a man comes in and tells her he’s ready to get sexed. The man sounds like Kenneth… Kenisha is all to happy to deliver her dad’s message. He’ll be late because he has some (changes it to) one to do. She feels slightly sorry for Courtney (whose 7 months pregnant but did she really expect him to be faithful).
Lavon calls and tries to say Chili’s kid ain’t his. Kenisha is over it and hangs up in his face. The next day, Chili shows up in English class. At lunch, Diamond, Jalisa, and Kenisha talk about her 16th birthday Sunday. Diamond says they can hang at her place but Kenisha says she doesn’t know what her family have planned. As they talk about different things, Chili walks by their table and eyes them but they ignore her. But Chili won’t let this go on. She comes up to Kenisha’s locker and demands to know what she told Lavon about her. He told her they were getting back together. Basically, Kenisha tells her she can have him and she got the better deal. If she thinks he’s gonna get into the NBA right out of HS well good luck with that.
She tries to walk away but Chili keeps pushing her and talking ish about her mother (committing sucide). She tells her she should do the same. And then ITS ON! Kenisha jumps her. Pregnant and all. Kenisha gets expelled (even tho the security guard saw Chili push her twice). Courtney and Kenneth get into another argument about money. The first time it was about paying for a shrink. This time it’s about Kenneth wanting to get her a tutor until she can re-take the entrance exam. On Saturday, she leaves and goes to her grandmother’s (despite Courtney telling her Kenneth wants her to stay).
She tells her grandmother about what happened and her decision to go to Penn Hall. Her grandmother quickly lets her know she’s not getting her sympathy and she needs to get it together and deal with her anger. She says they’ll register her on Monday. She spends the rest of the day with Terrance and they both talk about their losses. He kisses her and asks if she knows the time. It’s two minutes after her birthday. On Sunday Ty rents a limo and it takes Kenisha, him, Jade, her friends, and Terrance to church and a nice restaurant to have breakfast. After dropping everyone back off, Jade tells Kenisha she needs to learn to handle her anger and if she needs to she’s always there.
On Kenisha’s first day at Penn Hall, the rules are laid out. She’s not shown any sympathy and told she won’t get any special treatment because she went to private school. After school, a girl named Cassie introduces herself to Kenisha (Cassandra Mosely). She’s seen her and her girls dance at Freeman. Then she runs into Lil T who tries to hit on her-and then Diamond-. Kenneth is waiting at the house not happy with the decision Kenisha made to leave and because he’d already decided to get her a tutor. He agrees tho to let her go to Penn Hall with restrictions and she will return to Hazelhurst. We also find out he doesn’t know why he left Barbara for Courtney. Kennisha finds out her mother was in rehab for a time that she doesn’t remember. Her dad says he does care about Courtney. He just doesn’t know if he loves her, Definitely not marrying her.
Things start off good. Kenisha keeps up with her work at Penn Hall *and * Hazelhurst. (Her student account is still open). She meets some new friends and hangs with Cassie. Then the drama starts up. Cassie tells Kennisha the guys think she’s easy because she was with Lavon and the girl think she’s a skank. They’re hatin on her because they saw the pictures Ty posted with her from her birthday. And it starts. She’s approached by a guy named Troy but she blows him off. Cassie gets all up in her business about Terrance. Then Tyreece. (Then Gayle). She asks can she meet them. Kennisha lies and says they just pop by but the next time they come by she’ll call her. She tells her there’s a girl that’s been talking ish about named Sierra Clark (the most popular girl at school and she’s on the dance team) that she needs to watch out for.
After dance class, Kenisha passes a house on the way to her grandmothers. Sierra is there and steps to her about Troy. Kennisha tells her she’s not interested and that she has someone in college. Her girls make a move like they wanna jump but someone they call “D” calls them all off. While Sierra and “D” get into it, Kennisha makes her exit. He meets a girl named Ursula who says “D” is her half-brother. He and Sierra are on again off again. He’s also a drop out. She also finds out Ursula use to dance at Freeman’s. “D” introduces himself to Kennisha and says his name is Darrien. He calls after Kenisha makes dinner but not recognizing his voice she hangs up. Terrance can’t come home because we find out earlier he’s pledging. Later, Kenisha’s father drops off a computer conference system. He gets five. Jalisa and Diamond get one. He keeps one. He says he can give the other to Cassie but she knows who she’ll give it to (Terrance).
She finds out from Ursula that Darien probably got her cell number from Cassie (who reminds her of Chili). He’s into forcing girls to do the things he wants. Ursula tells her a little more about Darien. He usually stays with his dad when not with her and her mom. Her mom thinks the sun rises and set on him. He’s 17. Dropped out. Never went back to get his GED. He just got his ankle bracelet off. Kenisha decides he’s cute but out of her league. But he calls again. They bond over them both getting into a fight and their dad’s both playing professional football. He wants to know if they hang. She says not a good idea. She asks about Sierra. He says he’s over her. He needs someone sweet. She decides maybe talking to him isn’t so bad.
Kenisha gets caught in English doing a trig assignment for Hazelhurst. She gets detention and extra work. She calls Terrance but he’s not sympathetic and tells her she was wrong before rushing off the phone. For this reason, she accepts a ride from Darien after school. Surprisingly he knows Terrance but won’t go into details. He also knows about LaVon. And speak of the devil he calls. They both laugh when Kenisha says they need to introduce Sierra and Lavon. They talk for the drive and when they get to her grandma’s, (before she gets out the car) he kisses her and tells her she taste good.
Friday school is out. Kennisha takes the Hazelhurst entrance exam. It’s harder than she thought but she does ok. Terrance is supposed to come home but he doesn’t. So, Kenisha goes to Freeman for a little. Afterwards, she sees Darien and he offers to take her for a ride. She sees Sierra and doesn’t want the drama so she passes on it. She sees Ursula and she invites her to a party for her mom. It’s also to welcome Darien home. She says she can invite her girls. Then she invites her to come to her house to see her outfit for the party. While Ursula vacuums, she gets a look at Darien’s bedroom. She sees a scar on his shoulder and asks about it. He tells her to ask her boy.
We find out Sierra and Ursula use to be close but that ended with Sierra got pregnant. Sierra ended up having a miscarriage. But Darien is a dad by a girl that lives around his dad’s place. After Sierra got pregnant, he broke up with her so they aren’t together now. We learn also that he’s on house arrest because he beat some guy up right outside of school. They say he even stabbed the guy. The police said that it was drug related, but nobody found any drugs on him. Sierra was there when it happened. She covered for him saying the other guy jumped Darien with a knife. She says he has serious anger issues. Kenisha is surprised because he’s so nice. She realizes she’s more like him that “lawn mower guy”.
On the way to the party, Lil T calls Kenisha out for hanging with “D” who he says is a thug. He then blows her cover that he saw her kiss D. That pisses Kenisha off and she walks away from him. She admits to them she kissed D because Terrance is never around anymore. After dancing with “D”, he pulls Kenisha some place more private. Cassie stops them on the way outside and says she has to ask Darien something but since Kenisha is with him she acts like she can’t say it in front of her and says she’ll ask him later. Darien plays dumb about what it’s about and calls her a joke. Kenisha says she seems nice. He tells her she doesn’t even know her.
He says he know what she wants but she’ll have to wait. He leads her to his car. Then he starts doing crack in front of her. He tries to get her to do it and then drink. Kennisha refuses both. But then tries one sip of his beer and regrets it. Then he starts to push himself on her. She gets out of there-not listening to his apologizes- and goes back to the party and starts to dance with another guy. Then Ursula, Jalisa, Diamond turn the party out. Eventually Kenisha forgets Darien and just has fun with her girls. After a while, a fight breaks out. Kenisha and her friends head home.
Dairen stops them and tells them there’s a dance battle going on. Kenisha convinces her friends to go. The battle is off the chains. Kennisha can’t get her friends to dance so she starts to imitate the dancers. At Freeman’s her friends say the party was cool, but her friends say some of the girls tried to get into it with them and they won’t be going to the Go-Go thing Ursula invited them too. Cassie approaches her after dance class and tells her everyone think Darien hit it when they went to his car.
Kenisha decides to sneak out and go with Ursula and Darien to the Go-Go party. It’s in an old abandoned restaurant. There seems to be some hostility between Terrance and Darien but again he won’t say why when Kenisha asks when their dancing. He says that he just needs to be real. Darien goes outside to talk to some friends and commotion breaks out. Gunshots are heard. Kenisha starts to have an asthma attack. Then the police start to swarm the place. Wild stories are all over the place. People start running and a girl is trampled. Then there are more gunshots. Kennisha finds Ursula and then make their way toward the restaurant. They see Darien fighting with another guy. Then Darien pulls out something (a knife) and everyone scatters. He shoves something at Sierra. He gets away.
Lil T comes to the rescue and gets them out of there in his cousin’s car. All through this Darien doesn’t answer the phone. When Ursula leaves, Kenisha just sits on her poarch for a while. Then Darien shows up. He says a guy owed him money that works for him and because it got to hot he had to dip. He’s not going back to juvie. Kennisha tries to tell him then don’t go back but he says basically he’s a thug and that ain’t gone change. He isn’t interested in going back to school. He wants to rap or direct rap videos or something, Besides it’s what she likes about him. So, they start kissing but it gets too intense and she tells him she has to go.
Terrance calls later in the day and tells her he crossed that’s why he didn’t come home. He’s not happy to hear she’s been hanging out with Darien and warns her to stay away from him. Kennisha is like whatever when he doesn’t tell her why and he says he’ll talk to her about it when he comes back. Diamond and Jalisa find out the next day that she snuck out and went to the club. They tell her she’s moving too fast and maybe she needs to talk to Tubbs.
Kennisha gets a hint from Lil T Dairen and Cassie have a connection. Darien interrupts her from finding out more and takes her with him to “handle some business” and introduces him to his friend Dante. Dante says if she can dance, he can invite her to his party. He invites her to his dad’s crib but she says she needs to get home. He’s pissed but it doesn’t matter to Kennisha. Her dad and grandmother are there waiting on her. He invites her to dinner and tells her to bring her boyfriend. On Halloween, Cassie asks Kenisha to go out to a party but by now she’s starting to see she’s shady after seeing her with Sierra. She tells her she has to study. Darien calls but she doesn’t answer. Cassie then calls and tells her Ursula’s in big trouble. Kennisha goes over there only to find it’s a set up. Darien offered Cassie drugs to get her to trick her into coming by. He tries to force her to have sex but she hits him in the face with one of his trophies. She keeps swinging until he goes down and she gets out of there. When she gets to her grandmothers someone grabs her. It’s Terrance. He and Lil T get her calmed down and give her his inhaler. (Before this it’s reveled that Darien was the guy Terrance stabbed for stabbing and killing his brother).
Terrance finds out that Darien did this (her shirt is ripped) and heads straight to Darien’s. Kenisha remembers Darien had a gun on his dresser. When she and Lil T get there D and T are already fighting and then there’s an ambulance. The crowd is cheering Terrance on. Darien pulls out a knife. Sierra distracts him and Terrance starts to beat him down again. Then Sierra gets in on it. The police take Terrance and Darien away in different cars. Kennisha calls out to Terrance but he’s looking down and doesn’t look at her. Kennth calls Kenisha to come to the hospital. Courney had an accident. Jade goes with Kennisha to get her brothers and take them back to her grandmothers. Kennisha’s grandmother and a whole bunch of her friends go to the jail and get Terrance released. Courtney has a girl and her name is Barbara. Kennisha get accepted back into Hazelhurst and decides to continue to see Tubbs.
My Thoughts: I think that sometimes life dumps TOO MUCH on people back-to-back and even though Kenisha is a fictional character it makes me angry how sometimes it won't even let you up for air before it starts again! I do think Kenisha should either keep going to Tubbs. Or if she never feels like he can relate to her find a black female psychologist because I’m sure just like they found Tubbs they can find one that she can more relate to. I'd even suggest in addition to her My Space page to start a blog. Blogs are very useful when it comes to letting out built up anger. You don't have to put on pretenses and while it's not a "cure" and there will still be some anger it helps when you feel like no one else around you will understand. You never know who'll be reading it either and someone else might relate and have the same issues going on.
I honestly didn’t think Kenisha should have been expelled at all. It is wrong to fight a pregnant girl. If you don’t think much of the person at least think of the baby. Chili could have miscarried in the hallway. BUT Chili was just BEGGING to get her tail kicked! So, she *should* have been thinking about her child too. And over Lavon? REALLY? Kenisha did walk away twice. If someone keeps provoking you it's only so many times, you're gonna resist before automatic reflexes are gonna kick in. Even if you don't want them too. Ideally, she was *at* the classroom and could have just walked inside. but... this fight was just unnecessary.
I also thought she has some good insights on her “My Space” page. My favorite was Chapter 12’s about the reality of fairy tales. anOverall I liked the book. I thought it did a decent job of how having to deal with the loss of someone you loved can cause anger that if not dealt with properly can be toxic to the decisions you make. I think Kenisha's recipe book of life was a great idea and a wonderful thing to pass on to her and Terrence's kids.
Even tho Dairen just screamed at me STAY AWAY in a way I got the appeal of him. I could relate to someone not having time that your supposed to be with and then someone else comes along that gives you time and how you can end up having feelings for them. I’m just glad that Kennisha’s didn’t get *too* carried away and let go of Terrance for Darien. She was smart to realize he was a little out of her league.

The book "Fast Forward" by Celeste O. Norfleet is a fiction book. The book addresses many drama that the normal average teenager faces in their daily life. I really Like the book because of that it seems so real although its fiction. The author has a way of rayling the reader to it. The Kenisha Lewis story is very memorable, interesting, entertaining. For example when Kenisha had allowed the attractive boy in her life she quickly realize everything comes with a prize. I would say the lesson from the book is be careful of who you hang with. Get to know people characters because not everyone is what they say they are. I really enjoyed the story if your someone who enjoy drama books and stories that kind of relates in real life I really suggest you give this book a try. You'll thank me later
Kenisha Lewis’s life went from near perfect to chaos in a few months. Her life was going just well until her dad had dropped a bomb on her and her mother and made them end up at her grandmother’s place in DC. After a while her mom had died and she found out that her cousin is really her sister and things just went sideways after that. She had two best friends, Jalisa Saunders and Diamond Riggs. Kenisha goes to Hazelhurst Academy for Girls. One day at school Kenisha got into a fight with some girl that was all up in her face. She was now sitting in the guidance counselors office with the counselor and her father. They had threatened to expel her if she got into anymore trouble. Kenishas dad had been dating another girl named Courtney and Kenisha had two little step brothers, Jr., and Jason. Kenisha got into another fight with a girl named Chili because she was talking about her mother not because she is supposedly pregnant by Kenisha’s ex boyfriend LaVon. She got expelled and she had to go live with her grandmother. She had a plan to enroll in Penn Hall until she could retake a test to get back into Hazelhurst. While she was at her grandmothers she had met Terrence Butler, she called him lawnmower guy because he mowed her grandmothers lawn. On her first day at Penn Hall High she met a girl named Cassandra Mosley. Rumors started spreading about her and her ex boyfriend LaVon. Cassie asked Kenisha a lot of questions and started being really nosey and Kenisha thought she could trust her. Kenisha met another girl and her name was Ursula. Ursula had a brother named Darien but everyone called him D. Darien was a bad boy, he had an ankle bracelet and he was in juvie several times. Kenisha had went to a party with some of her girls at Dariens house. After the party Ursula invited them to a go-go party. As they were walking home Darien pulled up on them and said “yall aint finished for the night are you?” The girls asked him what he had and he said there was a dance battle going on, they decided to go to the dance battle with Darien. An hour later D dropped them off at Kenishas house. It came time for the go-go party and Kenisha wanted to go so she snuck out. At the party every one was dancing having a good time until they heard popping sounds, everyone knew what that meant. Everyone was running, screaming and ducking behind cars so they wouldnt get shot. After everything had settled down Ursula and Kenisha were trying to find Darien but he was no where to be found. They didn't have a ride home but then Li’l T showed up and gave them a ride. When Kenisha got home she sat on the front porch for a little bit and then she saw Darien walking up to her. They were talking and talking, then they kissed and he left home. She told Terrence she had been hanging with a few friends and when he asked who Kenisha said Ursula and Darien. Terrence had warned her not to hang out with Darien but he had not explained why. One day Cassie called Kenisha and said that Ursula was in trouble. Ursula was Kenisha's friend so Kenisha went to her house but she didn't find Ursula she just found Darien and Cassie and they were getting high together. Darien would not let Kenisha go, he was high and he started explaining what happen to him and Terrence. Terrence had stabbed Darien because Darien stabbed his little brother. Terrence told Kenisha that he was sent to juvie for stabbing the guy who killed his little brother. Darien was that guy. They argued and argued and then it turned into a physical altercation. Kenisha threw a trophy that she seen by her side at Dariens face and it smashed into pieces. Kenisha swung again with another trophy and she heard a crack, Darien stood there hunched over and Kenisha flew out the door. As Kenisha ran home Terrence and Li’l T caught up to her and started interrogating her about what happened and when she explained Terrence got up and walked out the door. Kenisha and Li’l T ran after him because Kenisa knew Darien had a gun. As they approached the situation a few people was turning into a small crowd. Everyone was shouting ¨kick his butt Terrence.¨ Darien pulled out a knife and he swung a few times but Terrence ducked. Just as it was getting bad the cops showed up and they put both of them into two different patrol cars. They sent D to juvie and charged him because he had a gun. Terrence was fine and didn't have any charges and he didnt go to juvie.
Fast Forward by Celeste O. Norfleet is a wild and interesting book about teenagers. Its main focus was on a teen named Kenisha and all of her sticky situations. Although she has certain problems, her friends are always there to help her out. Kenisha has a very dramatic life to live.
Kenisha isn’t your average female teenager. She’s a current high school student who gets into a lot of trouble. She attended a private school until she got kicked out for fighting. When Kenisha was sent to a public school, she had to change her life for the better because she moved in with her grandmother. She met new friends and a new guy who was a bad influence on her. Everyone around her notices that she’s moving way to fast, but she doesn’t think anything of it. Kenisha always finds herself stuck between a rock and a hard place. She also makes the wrong decisions until she realizes that she’s losing all of her trust from her friends and family. She has to learn how to stand her ground and find her true self. If she would have come to her senses a long time ago, she would probably have fewer problems.
Honestly, I loved reading this book because it was about many problems that almost every teenager goes through. I could understand why Kenisha acts the way she acts. She lost her mother just like my best friend did, and they both act out sometimes because of their loss. I felt like I was actually there when the author described how she went to parties, and hung out with her friends. The story was marvelous form the beginning to the end. If you love reading stories about teenagers and their personal lives, I recommend you to read this book. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it kept getting interesting after every page. I hope there will be more books related to teens and their problems just like this one.
I picked this book because of the author. I've read many of her books and They were really Juicy And detailed.
The book focuses on kenisha a teenager who goes to a private school and has a very dramatic life. For Kenisha Lewis it’s not just one conflict she has many. Not only did her dad cheat on her mother with another woman but he also kicked them out. Which caused her mother depression and led to suicide. Right now she’s in between her grandmothers and fathers house going back and forth with her dramatic life.
Curly Hair that every girl would want a pretty face bootylicious curves and with a salty but sweet attitude and most of all loves to squash beef.
Kenisha's life takes place at 3 important place. For one Her fathers house where it reveals all the drama with her stepmother and for 2 her grandmas house where she gets mixed in with the wrong crowds and , and last of all, school of course where all the fighting happens.
Kenisha faces many conflicts and issues. From the neighbor hood thug to fake friends and emotions running high but most of all she has issues within herself that she can't claim or admit to.
I think kenisha needs to settle down and actually talk about her real feeling instead of shoving everything at the pit of her stomach then maybe she can learn to deal with her problems before she explodes.
I’d Give the book a ⅘ And Definitely recommend it to a friend its connects with every teens issue somehow and you feel really connected. I've also read the other reviews their similar but people are feeling sorry for her which i don't, get of course I feel sorry for all shes been through but some things she caused to her self.
Once again Imani True Gives me another book to connect with I really enjoy her work.
‘Fast Forward’ and Kenisha Lewis are back. While she’s a little more seasoned, unfortunately, due to the death of her mom, the fact still remains, she’s hurting. The school year has just started and she can’t seem to get into full gear. While things look the same, it just isn’t in Kenisha’s world. Her cousin Jade is actually her sister. LaVon, her ex-boyfriend, was cheating all along with her so called friend Chilli and they have a baby on the way. Then if that weren’t bad enough, she’s forced to live in a house that used to be her home with her mom and dad with his new family. Expulsion is the final thread and Kenisha decides that Virginia just may not be the right fit for her.
In D.C. she has a chance to start anew. Unfortunately, with public school comes a new cast of characters, shenanigans and issues. Things seem to keep pivoting in the wrong direction. Can Kenisha learn to navigate her life before she gets in over her head?
Again, ‘Fast Forward’ is a great read. I could fully understand and relate to this character’s emotions. I enjoyed the fact that the story wasn’t perfect and that there were consequences to her missteps. I do hope that this isn’t the last that we’ve seen of this series.
Kenisha Lewis life was perfect up until a a few months ago before her mother committed suicide and her father decided he wanted to marry some skank. Now she's just a big ball of anger and was kicked out of her private school where her friends and life are, now she's in a new school living with her grandmother and getting into the wrong crowd. When she meets a hot new guy who happens to be on her new friend Ursulas half brother and the neighbor hood bad boy things go from bad to worse she gets mixed in with him and his drama and soon realizes he's not as sweet as he seems to be. This is a text to text. I say this is a text to text becuase on this website called Quizilla this story about a girl who gets sent to a boarding schol ha as much balled up anger as Kenisha. Her father died and her mother isn't even trying to understand her. Like Kenisha she wants understanding and she might just find it. I gave the book five stars becuase I kept re reading it. Although I didn't read the first book which is called Pushing Pause I feel like I understood the book right from the start. It started with drama which is always good and ended with a Happilly Ever After like any good story.
Kenisha faces many problems in the book. One with her dad who cheated on her mom with another woman and then eventually kicks them out and that led to her mother being depressed and ending up killing herself. She's in between her grandma and fathers house, dealing with a lot of drama with people from her neighborhood and the gangs and fake friends, etc. I can sort of relate to Kenisha because she holds everything in and then explodes instead of talking it out. That's just like me. It connects with a good amount of teenagers out there including myself because everyone out there has had an enemy or a lot of people going against them. It's a really good read and I recommend it to any and everyone.
I picked this book up at the Public Library anticipating that I'll be working with urban high school students in the near future. Personally, I'm not a fan of much, okay really any profanity - but that was one of my only complaints about this book. The writing is pretty simplistic, but there is a lot of depth. I found myself thinking a lot about the social structure we live in and how absolutely unfair it is that any 16-year-old would have to face some of the things talked about in this book. It also made me intensely glad that I am no longer in high school . . .
it was about this girl who had to lave her friends to go to a diffrent school . She went to ghetto school and had friends for life . until i think she got in a fight and dad made her move schools . her mom died i believe also. she dated a colledge boy . and she also like one of her friends brother who i think tried to rape her .

This book was AMAZING! I read it a while ago, I was walking through my school library and saw it. At first I was thinking about it, then I checked it out.. BEST decision of my life! The book had me rolling, sad, mad, scared, pissed, wondering, almost cried from shock,. I was like, WOW! I loved this book so much. I failed to read Pushing Pause first though.. but I LOVE THIS BOOK!
love this book my favorite part was when kenisha told her boyfriend who in college how some thug was getting high and tried to rape her but she ran away and then her boyfriend when to the boy's house and fought him and then the police came and he when to jail but kenisha grandma got him out.

this is a very interesting book. it makes you want to keep reading. its about a teenage girls life. she goes through alot of trouble. she realizes who her real friends are. she loves to dance those are her roots keeping her friends and her together.
The whole series is really good. I wonder if she (the author) is going to have another book in this series. I have been reading this series since High School and now I am in my mid-20s. Definitely recommend for young girls
A good story full of new experiences and lessons. Kenisha has reconciled her relationship with Jade and deepened her connection with Grandmom. Terrance solidifies his role in Kenisha's life all the while learning who to trust and who to stay away from. Great for YAs.

I think that the book was good and i would like to read another book by Celeste O. Norfleet. I like how all the scenes in the book were imaginable. I ESPECIALLY would like to see how lawnmower guy looks. A lot of things in the book were connectable as well.
It is suppose to be a good book and is the next series iam reading next after drama high which is going to be soon but not early since there's ten series=)
OMG MOMENT!!!! so this book is so good. kenisha's step mother said that she dont like her and she said she is going to devorice her father after two years.
This book was really cool to read. I really got into Kenisha's character. So happy that she fought her way out of all her foolish behaviour and all those complications.
