Crystals, Curves and Castles #1

Claimed By The Barbarian Dragon

Rate this book
Marked by a monster, protected by a dragon…whether she likes it or not.

Mara is just a regular woman who loves her crystal shop, sending good vibes to others and chatting in her shifter reader group, until she looks down and sees an unfamiliar mark on her hand. Now that shifters are coming out publicly, supernatural events are becoming more common, and she has no choice but to call the double dragons who police such matters. They tell her that something is coming for her, and the only thing that can protect her is something no one can control.

Konar has been imprisoned for a hundred years within his fortress hidden deep in the wilds of Texas. As a conquering barbarian dragon, all he wants when he wakes is revenge, and to see the world that hurt him bow at his feet. When the tame, stupid earth dragons beg for his assistance, he tells them nothing could make him help them…until he sees they’ve brought a woman with inner and outer beauty, curves beyond compare, and an inner power that calls to his dragon, demanding he make her his own.

When Mara refuses his arrogant offer of help, Konar takes things into his own hands, literally. Though Mara’s good heart makes it hard to accept Konar’s vengeance, eventually the heat between them erupts, and steamy nights and fun days quickly lead to Mara falling for the gorgeous man even with all his eccentricities. But something is still coming after her, based on the countdown on her hand. And even if Konar is a dragon who can level cities, the thing coming to take her might just be even worse.

Warning: Contains scorching hot dragon love, an extremely persistent but protective barbarian, and a sweet curvy heroine who will melt your heart.

I can not get into this one. Mara comes off extremely naive and almost juvenile. Konar seems slow minded....like me Tarzan you Jane but not is a sexy way.

Just not for me.

Happy reading,

This is what I get for reading a book with “curves” in the series name 🤦‍♀️. When a body type is the basis for a book, you’re bound to have problems.

Wonderful read, great story with delightful plot and amazing characters
Wonderful story about an unlikely human Mara who since a child had a wonderful affinity to Crystals and the healing and various other properties, they had over humans that came into contact with them. All of her life had been used to help others by using the crystals she sought and sold to help their health, their chi, their worries or any other issue that might arise.
One day after a regular day selling crystals within her tiny store, she had been with her friends who had noticed what appeared to be a tattoo on her wrist, contacting the dragons about it she was surprised at the speed of their arrival.
It was s design that showed that she was carrying an ancient magic which should it be attained by one of the dragons, they had taken her to Konar who was one of the newly awaked” Stone Hearted” dragons, who were warrior dragons.
As he decided under his own right the Barbarian King had kidnapped the small human and then declared that he would do whatever it took to keep her safe, he realised with his dragon that she was something special to him and his dragon knew that she was his mate, she was his world and he knew that he wanted to protect her against every threat.
As the story continues to open up and Konar begins to retrieve more of his memories and he begins to have feelings that he has never known before. She was so beautiful on the inside and out so that she had feelings for him, if only he did not want to conquer the world and destroy the planet, revenge for the one-hundred-years he had lost in the dark.
He is a Barbarian Warrior and she is a tiny human and yet she is able to twist him around her finger, his cold heart warms for the first time and he believed that he heard his mothers voice, this was something that was extremely important to him.
I do not want to spoil the plot so will say no more about the three of them, I assure you that you will enjoy every single moment of this book.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Claimed by the Barbarian Dragon is the first book in Terry Bolryder’s new Crystals, Curves and Castles series. It is a steamy paranormal shifter romance that is written in third person, from the point of views of both the hero and heroine. This is a fun read, with great characters, a happily ever after and no cliff hangers.

When sweet curvy Mara discovers an unfamiliar mark on her hand, she contacts the double dragons and learns she has been marked and needs to be protected from the danger that stalks her. When Konar, a conquering barbarian dragon, is approached by those who imprisoned him for a hundred years for help, his initial response is to refuse until he sees Mara and her radiant beauty and kindness. Their personalities immediately clash, despite the instant chemistry, but Konar takes control a vows to keep her safe. As time counts down, the connection between Konar and Mara grows but can their love survive the differences in their fundamental beliefs as well as the danger that coming? Read it and find out.

I love Terry Bolryder’s books. They are suspenseful, action packed and filled with great characters that have to learn to work and love each other in order to find their happily ever after. This book was interesting and well written. It has the same longer length of Bolryder’s new stories which allows the reader to be drawn deeper into this newly created world. She has also returned to writing in third person, which I have always enjoyed. While this is a new series, we see a return of some of my favourite characters, Max, Felix, Benny and Lock from her Crimson Club series, which helps add another layer to Bolryder’s overall storyline for this series. I can’t wait to read more about the other barbarian dragons as they find their own mates.

This is a voluntary review of a reader’s advance copy from the author.

Great start to a new series in the Dragon Shifter world of Terry Bolryder

Mara is talking to her 2 friend's about meeting shifters when something weird happens to her arm. She calls the Double Dragons for help but they are swamped with work. So they awaken a barbarian dragon Konar to help protect her. He is bitterly angry that he was put to sleep for 100 years and ready to conquer the human world, but something about Mara tugs at him. The mark on her arm means that a very bad being is coming for her and only he is strong enough to protect her. She doesn't want his help if he is just going to conquer her world. How can he keep her safe, which is becoming increasingly important to him?

The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some action and some very steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and engaging. You can read this story on its own, but you will get much more out of t if you read the series in order from the beginning. For me it all starts with the Double Dragons box set and then the Tiger Protectors box set. These have 2 on 1 in a mutual respectful way. Or you can start with the Awakened Dragons box set, followed by the Rent-a-Dragon box set, the Date-a-Dragon box set, the Awakened Sea Dragons box set, Dragon Guards of Drakkaris box set, the Nightmare Dragons series, Frozen Dragons series, Club Crimson series, Bad Dragons box set special edition, Forgotten Dragons series, Wings, Wands and Soul Bonds series, Reclaimed Dragons series, Rogue Dream Fae series, Texas Dragons series and the Big Bad Basilisks series before this! Whether you start with this story or back at the beginning, you will be reading stories with strong alpha males and the strong women who claim them with some action and good character development! Enjoy!

Another great dragon shifter love story by Terry. Mara owns a shop where she sells crystals. She likes to think that she imbues each one with a little magic before it goes out the door. When one of her friends notices a strange mark on her wrist, they convince her to get in touch with the double dragons and see if they know what it means. Apparently, it means she is in real trouble and she needs a protector, stat. The dragons' researcher, Serena, may have just the person, er dragon, for the job. It has come to the attention of the oracle that there are some dragons that she has imprisoned that may not deserve their punishment. Bad or biased information was given to the oracle at the time of their suppression. Three barbarian dragon kings fall into this category. Serena thinks King Konar is their best bet.

Konar is angry when he awakens in his castle and can't remember what exactly happened to him and is not sure how long he has been trapped in sleep. He just knows it is time he got back to the work of conquering. That had been his only goal in life ever since he can remember, though admittedly he doesn't remember a lot. When two pretty boy dragons show up wanting him to help them with something, his answer is a hard "no," until he scents - her. There is something about Mara that stops him in his tracks and when he sees her chaos tattoo he knows she does need protecting. She obviously has some kind of power and he wants it for himself. But she turns down his "protection" offer, so he only has one choice - he kidnaps her.

There are some old friends from the Club Crimson series who make an appearance in the story. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

The title is misleading - such a disappointment

Where do I begin? I love a good fantasy, shifter, barbarian claiming. This was not it. It had potential to be, an interesting premise to be sure, but it ended up a sappy pile of boring with a dash of hate for non fat women.

Lets talk about the fat thing first. As a curvy woman, a curvy main female hero who has a man that loves the extra cushion for the pushin is great. But it wasn't just mentioned once or twice or even a dozen times. In fact, the author made it a point to shove it down our throats. The scene where the skinny woman with short legs is a total b**** and Konar put her in her place? So not needed. It felt like it was only there to make thin women into terrible people. Thin shaming.

Now for the sappy B.S. The main needs love - ok, but she admits she only loves a part of Konar, when he acts a certain way. She doesn't love ALL of him and will not accept his barbarian side. This pissed me off. When a title is claimed by the barbarian dragon, I expect to revel in sexy, dominant, alpha male being admired. Instead, it feels as if the author herself finds Konar to be unlovable as he is. The line that made me want to stop reading?

"He was finally being the dragon she always dreamed he could be. Protective and kind and serving her world"

Ugh, he becomes a soft, jelly mold, just like Mara wanted. A lap dog who will be kind and put hos life on the line for a world that was overly cruel to him. That was the only way for her to really accept and love him - and the author makes this out like its a good thing. Yuck.

The start of another fantastic dragon series from Terry Bolryder!

So much was happening in this book. Double dragons, totally unexpected visit from my favorite Club owners, and a touch of Wings, Wands, and Soul Bonds (one of my favortie series).

Troy and Jack (the double dragons from the Texas Dragons and Basilisk series) are back to help the world deal with the problems caused by shifters being outed to the human world. When a problem comes up that is beyond them, information leads them to a group of dragons from the Fae realm that were put in storage by the Oracle.

Konar our first Barbarian dragon is so fixated on revenge and conquering that he is not really likable and our heroine, Mara, isn't impressed with him at all. Choosing to take her chances instead of staying under the protection of the bull headed Konar, this barbarian takes matters into his own hands.

The ancestry of the barbarian dragons leads me to wonder if were are going to get some more surprise visits from characters from another of Terry's series (keeping my fingers crossed on that).

Mara is one heck of a leading lady. She is kind and compassionate and willing to give people second and third chances. Konar is a barabarian - period. But as Konar spends time with Mara, he starts to see things a little differently. When the big bad finally shows, the battle is epic.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Will Willow and Becky find their own shifters? Will Karnal and Drokar give up their stone hearts? Eagerly looking forward to the next.

Such a good story with a great twist

I really enjoyed the story. Fifi and Lock show up in it. That was fun. What a fun time at the new Club Crimson well until Konar got all protective! I love Mara! She has such a kind heart and wants to help people so much. Konar really likes her but doesn't remember a lot and struggles with wanting what he thinks his destiny of his ancestors ax and the most beautiful "little one" he has ever seen. Ok I so wouldn't appreciate being called little one by a guy I was into for any reason. Just really seems off putting the fact that he thinks he has to conquer her world didn't help sell her on mating him. He had a gentle side to him but he wouldn't let it shine through much and he couldn't let go of the need to be a barnarian. I thought when she got out of the cage he had her in was hilarious until he caught her in the woods. Not a great escape plan especially since she left her bag with all her things in it. Who knee she could do such things. I would have liked to have seen more of Jer powers like that. The surprise was fantastic! The dragon fight against the chaos dragon was so good. Jack and Troy were no real match against him. I loved how the fight played out. I was so happy for Mara! I was happy that Konar remembered his mom. I loved the crystals in the story and I can't wait to see what happens with Maria's friends and the other barbarian dragons. Well done Terry!

Mara is the very proud owner of a crystals shop
She is a kind, loving and decent human being. Her light and loving spirit is part of what brings customers to the shop. She gives her whole heart and her possessions/crystals to others. She loves reading shifter romance and is very much interested in the supernatural. Since shifters have been introduced to society, her romance novels don't seem "entirely" as fictional as they once did. Konar is a barbarian dragon who was put in a deep sleep by the Oracle for 100 years. Something he is not happy about. He is angry and bitter. One day while in her shop, Mara notices a spot on her wrist, almost like a tattoo. Concerned about it and pushed by her two best friends, she calls the double dragons. Little does she know, her life is about to change in unimaginable ways.
This is just another example of why I absolutely love Terry Bolryder's books. She just writes such exciting, entrancing and addictive paranormal romance that is packed with action, suspense and steam. I may have received an arc of this book, but even without that, I would have given five stars plus on Amazon and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ plus book lover stars. Simply an incredible, enjoyable and fantastic reading experience. Thank you Terry, I absolutely loved it.

I received a copy of Terry Bolryder's book "Claimed By A Barbarian Dragon". Since she is one of my favorite dragon writers I couldn't wait to read it.
Gem Dragons and the Oracle are in this book and I'm assuming also in the rest of the series. Konar awakens from a hundred year sleep. The Oracle is getting old and starting to lose her powers. He is able to walk right through the enchantment keeping him asleep and in his castle.
Mara is a shopkeeper that sells crystals. She is full of happiness and good will. One day she sees this mark on her wrist. She doesn't know how it got there or why. The two Gem Dragons hear about it and look. They think only the barbarian dragon would know what it is and how to protect Mara. Mara meets Konar and has a great dislike for him She doesn't want his protection and she is not even sure she needs it. Konar end up kidnapping her and keeping her in the castle.
Now the story starts...love starts to bloom and Konar learns about life 100 years after he went to sleep.
I don't want to tell you to much about the rest of the story, but believe me there is quite a surprise. I know all of you will enjoy this dragon story and can't wait for the next book to come out.

Once again we are back with dragons something that Terry really has made her own and in these Barbarian War Lord Dragons she has excelled herself Held captive by the oracle for 100 years Konar has only one thing on his mind when he is awaked and it sure isn't to help the earth dragons save the earth. No he wants to pillage and plunder and take over so that he can inherit the double headed war axe of his foamily. That is until he sees who the double dragons want him to protect Mara a woman with a natural affinity to crystals who has suddenly found a tattoo on her arm a tattoo that is counting down the time till her powers are taken by chaos. Konar immediately hatches a plan he will protect her but only so he can take her powers himself The only problem is the more time he spends with Mara the more he just wants her but can a stone hearted dragon fall in love. Get ready for a rip roaring adventure ride and a introduction to Mara's best friends Becky and Willow and the other barbarian dragons Karnal and Drokar whose stories I cannot wait for

There are new dragons on the scene and they are nothing like other dragons. After awaking from a 100 year long prison sentence, Konar is set on getting revenge for being unrightfully convicted. He is a barabrian dragon, who intends to punish those responsible for his prison sentence and conquer the Planet. One woman may foil all his plans. Mara sells crystals, until a strange tattoo pops up on her arm. She turns to the Double Dragon Defenders for help and somehow ends up with a cold barbarian dragon as a protector. Can she warm up his cold heart?
I've read many dragon shifter books and the books from Terry Bolryder are always refreshing. These books can be read alone, but always have small Easter eggs for the dedicated reader. The stories, even though they're all about shifters finding their mates, are never redundant and always a fun and romantic read, with just the right amount of spice.

Claimed by the Barbarian Dragon🐉

Fantastic first story in this series by Terry with a few surprises I honestly did not see coming and were not hinted at, at all❣️Mara has a crystal shop and she loves helping people and showing kindness to everyone who crosses her path. When a mark appears on her skin out of the blue, her two friends convince her to contact the double dragons. Unfortunately, there is only one dragon that can help her but they’re not convinced he will help after just having woken up after being forced into a hundred year sleep😢

Suffice to say Konar and Mara have instant chemistry but can he leave his Barbarian ways behind and be the mate she needs? I loved this story especially since we get to visit with a few old favs of mine from previous books but we also get a glimpse of the double dragons that are STILL unmated - Troy and Jack and meet some more Barbarian dragons😉

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review😍

{23} Claimed by the Barbarian Dragon by Terry Bolryder is a 5 ⭐️ read.
Mara runs her own crystal shop and one day she finds a mark on her arm that looks like a tattoo but she knows she never got a tattoo, so she decides to contact the double dragons looking for help and they take her to meet a Barbarian Dragon who no one knows anything about.
Konar is a Barbarian Dragon, he’s not from earth but was locked away for 100 years by the Oracle and when he’s woken he’s looking for revenge for the lost years. He knows what the mark on Mara is and tells her he will protect her but he then plans to burn earth to the ground to get his revenge.
Terry Bolryder is a brilliant author and this was a brilliant start to a new Dragon series written by the master of dragon shifter books.
I would highly recommend this book.

Mara & Konar

I LOVED THIS ONE. Can't wait for more!

Mara had pretty much given up on human guys. They wanted barbie-look-a-likes and she was far from that. When shifters came out she wondered if the books were right and they did like curves.

Konar...well you need to read to find out about him but he is a dragon. He does like curves and Mara is about the find that out!

This new series is about a new dragon. Some of our other dragons are part of the story-yay. You can expect surprises, intrigue, evil enemies, mistakes and so much more--oh yeah plenty of steam. Don't miss the start of what has to be one of the author's best series. (the end is a great teaser of what is to come)

This book is hot.

OMG. I totally loved this book. Mara and were perfect together. He was very strong and very revengeful. She was so kind-hearted and loving towards everyone. As the book goes on you will see how strong she is and how soft heart that he becomes.
I almost wish I wouldn't have read this yet. I really hope the series continues because I can't wait to see what happens next with their friends. It's one of those books you just want to continue to read book after book. I have so much to say but I don't want to give anything away. This is definitely a must read. I hope the next book isn't too far in the future.
Terry really knows how to write and make you feel like you are right there. She hasn't written a book yet that I haven't loved.

Love me some dragons!

It has been a while since I have read a Terry Bolryder book. I was doing a marathon read about a year ago, then I got side tracked. So now it's been about a year and I have missed a bit. Like the entire bit in the fae realm. (Not a huge fan of far stories in general.) Fortunately I didn't feel too lost. Just a few random characters that I know nothing about. It was okay though because the book was about Barbarian Dragons. They are bigger and more fierce than the double dragons, surprisingly. Evidently, they are also from another planet, not just another realm. That was a surprise too. But the biggest surprise was Mara. I won't give that one away. You Will have to read it yourself. Worth the read.

Claimed by the Barbarian Dragon

Another Terry Bolryder dragon book that whisks you away from the worries and problems of real life! An introduction to a new kind of dragon, Konar is a Barbarian Dragon awakened after the Oracle put him and his comrades to sleep a hundred years ago. Mara is a human who sells different kinds of crystals in her shop and online, she finds a strange mark on her wrist and contacts the local Double Dragons who immediately seek protection for her.
Another enjoyable read from Terry, I love her dragon and shifter books, always a great way to relax. Thoroughly recommend this and other books by this author.

Loved it!!!!

This is another example of Terry' s ability to write an excellent story.
I loved the Barbarians story of how they were mistaken for Chaos Dragon's and were imprisoned for 100 years, and wanting vengeance, and to Conquer the entire world.
They have a heart of stone and incapable of love and believe, they are incapable of finding and having a mate as they only think of nothing but Conquering.
But when a woman turns up with a problem, things start to change.
I am not going to tell you the story as that would ruin it for you. It would be like turning to the last page to find out.
I recommend this book 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.

Oh wow..loved it!!!

Now that is a story to remember, Kronar sure came around after he remembered his mother. I really wander if his people are really gone. I guess as the strict continues we will find out. Mara is a doll and so full of life, no wander she broke Kronor down and he finally found himself. And Mara is a Dragon...crystal one at that wow loved how the love she had for Kronor helped her found her true self..who would have thought she was a Dragon..but it all worked out and Kronor no longer wants to conquer the world..he only wants to be with Mara forever which it seems he will get his wish..a gift from the Oracle...loved it..bib fan as always Winzie19🤗💞.

Enjoyed

I liked this story. The barbarian thing was cool. At times it felt like he really had been asleep that long then other times it felt like he knew too much to have been. Sometimes it was explained a bit. I know these stories are short and a lot of details get left out, but this just wasn't my favorite. I still definitely would recommend it though. I'm not trying to be harsh or mean. I just loved many others from TERRY BOLRYDER way more. She is one of my favorite authors!

Absolutely couldn't put it down

First of all this book is a must-read if you just love everything dragons, and if you're a curvy girl or a big girl holy cow you just hit the lottery. This book touches all those bases and it gives you all the feels and it makes you actually wish that dragons were real. You can identify with the characters and they're appreciation for dragons and you can identify with them because they're big girls who have in their past been hurt it's just an amazing read. I actually read it in one setting I couldn't put it down.

The barbarian and the peaceful crystal lover

Konar is a barbarian dragon king with a heart of stone. Hate lives in his stone cold heart.
Mara owns a crystal store and loves to sell and give her crystals away. Unfortunately Mara has trouble coming her way. Will Konar be the only one who can save her? What exactly after Mara? With all her peaceful thoughts can she change the warrior kings mind about her world? Come read this wonderful story for yourself. It is hard to put down.

Oh My Dragon !

What a great read. A new type of dragon has awaken and wow does he have a barbarian type attitude, but you’ll love him(eventually). I was so happy to see the crew from Crimson (Locke, Max,Felix and Benny) have a part of this story and hope they or others will have future appearances. I am hoping the other two Barbarian dragons get stories as well. Love to see them get attitude adjustments from their encounters with some humans of the female persuasion so I can smirk while reading about it.

I loved this book and thought it was an awesome start for this new series. Kona and Mara hit me with so many feels as their story unfolded and their relationship evolved. The wonderfully written and oh, so delightful story offers up a blend of emotions, drama, steam, humor, danger, tension, action and lots and lots of heart. I found it absolutely irresistible! I'm super excited to read future entries in this series. I am independently posting an impartial review.

Great start on a new dragon series. A good intertwining with the others. I would read them in order it is more fun that way. You don't have to but I would. Somehow the writer finds new story lines, new twist and turns. Not one is the same or close to it. Here she succeeds again. I take a bow and applaud her in this succes. I am in love with these characters and the way they behave.

Hot barbarian dragons! who knew?

This story starts with Mara, a stones and crystals shop owner that wants to bring peace and love to the world. All of a sudden she gets a mark on her hand and needs help from the dragons. Bring in Konar, A mega hot barbarian dragon. I can’t say much more without giving most of the story away, but it’s definitely up there with the water, gemstone, and metal dragons. Great starting book for the series.
