Buttons & Death

Rate this book
I'm Carter Barsetti.

Son of Cane Barsetti.

I made my fortune in the automobile industry. I've always preferred to live life in the fast lane. My father hoped I would settle down in Tuscany and join the family business in wine making.

Maybe someday.

I know I'm supposed to stay away from the Underground. I promised my father I would.

But then I get an offer that I can't refuse.

A man offers me a hundred million dollars to buy his daughter from the Underground.

But after I buy her and take her home, she tells me it's all a hoax. She was captured on purpose to get away from the cruelest man she's ever known.

And now I have to decide if I'm going to give her back.

EDIT: So I found out there is another book but I still wish she would've wrapped it up in this one. The books are pretty short and quite expensive. Like 9.99 for an ebook that is only 200ish pages is still a lot.

I don't understand. How can this book end the way it did? Bones and Vanessa need more of a story. The next book is on Carter but I honestly don't care about Carter at the moment. I need to know how Vanessa and Bones' story ends. I thought we were going to get closure but instead, we got a filler book where they had no interaction with each other. The only excitement was at the end before it was abruptly cut off. I'm so heartbroken. I need to know what happens and I really thought I was going to find out in this book. It was certainly what the blurb implied.

I love this series but this book disappointed me. Bones is willing to do everthinb for Vanessa but she is proving that her Dad made the right decision!! (Very frustrated with you, girl) I get that she wants to be happy but I think its so unfair for Bones, he deserves more after everything he went through 😞 Another reason this was a disappointment was because Bones didnt appear much in this book. I felt like I was reading the Barsetti’s family story rather than Bones and Vanessa continution as stated in the blurb. The only reason im giving this a 1 star is because of bones. Can’t wait to know what happen next tho

I really don't know what to say...

This book made me feel so much emotional... Sad, happy, rage!

The men of the Barsetti are such sexist hipocrit s...

3 months is not enough time... Hated Antonio and that she even considered...

I'm only giving a second though to Carter story because I want to read Vanessa story.

All the Barsetti men have the same core story and I'm over it.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

I know I've said this before, but Penelope Sky is seriously an amazing and talented writer. I get all the emotions reading her books. I feel sad, happy, laugh out loud...etc. My only complaint has ever been that I want the books to continue, and not have to wait for the next one. I normally stop reading books when they keep having "cliffhangers", but these are not monumental cliffhangers, and luckily, she doesn't make us wait too long to find out what comes next. Well, not too long for normal people....for me, it's hard to wait! :)
Honestly, throughout this book, I was sad and upset. I cried when they were apart. I was frustrated when she started seeing the other guy. I really don't want to like him at all. I don't want her to be with someone else. I didn't want him to get closure. I really want them to find their way back to one another and have their happy ever after. Considering the pattern of the members of that family to fall in love under questionable circumstances, it's not outside the realm of possibility, so when he got closure and she said yes to a date, it was upsetting because I don't have that same closure!
But by the time the ending came, I was hooked yet again. I don't see how he can prove himself any better anymore. He has made it clear that his love for Vanessa outweighs absolutely everything else, including his hatred for Crow. He's said it, he's proved it, and now he's proven it over and over again. He's made it crystal clear that he is exactly what she needs. She is exactly what he needs. Just like the other women in the family, she makes her man a better person. She doesn't need safe...she needs BONES!
Waiting for the next book to see if he's successful or to see what, if anything, bad happens is going to be torture!

I’m still hooked

It was great to see new and old characters again. I’m still struggling with the hypocrisy of everything and wondering how things will work for Vanessa.

The first two or three chapters of the book are sooooo heartbreaking and it actually made me cry. The last couple of chapters step up the tension for an awesome cliffhanger (even though I hate cliffhangers). The middle of the book is dealing with the aftermath of Crow's decision - there are plenty of arguments in all directions, interventions on all sides, support even though it is not wanted, and re-grouping. I loved the beginning and the ending of this segment but the middle kind of felt like a betrayal to all that Vanessa and Griffin fought for (hence, the 4 stars). The next segment is going to be spectacular and thankfully it is only 3 weeks away.

I received a copy from this fabulous author and I am writing this review in hopes that other readers will find this series and enjoy it as much as I have.

The book is mostly filler and was honestly disappointing. We pick up where Bones and Vanessa left off in the last book but that portion is short lived before we experience the heartbreak we knew was coming from the last book.

From that point the book never really picks up until the very tail end of the book. Once my kindle read 75% complete and the story line still wasn’t really progressing I started to get frustrated...then we hit 85%...and then I think it was literally at 96% when the story amped back up.

Long story short is Devine in Lingerie is a book of filler that leaves off on a MAJOR cliff hanger at the very last moment.

I’ve loved every book put out by Penelope at this point but this one wasn’t on par.

I didn't really liked this book to be honest..

This whole book was about Vanessa, who's dealing with the breakup with Bones. Her family made me so annoyed, because they wanted to push her into a new relationship. 3 Months feeling like shit is nothing for a breakup??

And what about Antonio? I think maybe Pearl send him to Vanessa so she could move on. That would be messed up, really.. I don't even really care about Antonio. Team Griffin all the way!

Don't even let me start about the end! God, I hope Griffin will get the respect he deserves because he warned and protects them. But Crow will probably not give it to him.

I reaaaally hope Vanessa and Griffin will be together in the end. Okay, now I'm going to read the next one!

FAR OUT!!!! I am sorry I couldn't care less of Carter's story, I just wanted to know if Griffin and Vanessa get back.... it was a nail biting story, one I just couldn't put down.
I had to read and cook dinner and chop the vegetables and read again. Penelope is the most amazing author for me, she will grab you page by page. The Barsetti brothers are terrible people and they have done terrible crimes, of course they are good men now, but they had a past. Even though Griffin proved himself over and over, he was never good enough. I got sick on Conrad and his pathetic tantrums, the way Penelope wrote the break up of Vanessa & Griffin, I cried. WOW a book you read, actually connects you on a emotional level and you start crying??? wow... the cliff hanger is terrible, I don't know how I am going to have to wait to another month to read, what happens next. Will Griffin and Vanessa get back together, even though she has started to date another gorgeous Italian Painter, who has patiently waited 3 months for her. Now that there is a hit on Conrad's son, Conway, let's see if Griffin will save the day and somehow, fingers crossed he gets all the respect and marries his woman Vanessa and have many children together... I have to wait a whole month!!! Excellent series, you have to read... especially if you are in a book slump or not!!!!

I swear this series is going to be the death of me!!! I've never been such a emotional wreck like I have been since I started reading Bones & Vanessa story. My eyes burn my heart hurt for the pain that the Barssetti family has cause Bones!!! The hypocrisy is still in affect the only saving grace was when Buttons called Crow out for being a hypocrite but I also felt she let things go to easily she needed to rip him a brand new one. Also I'm not liking the introduction to a new character so late in the game who is this Antonio guy. I don't like that he just came out of the blue it makes me very suspicious and I don't think that he has good intentions toward Vanessa. Overall enjoyable and entertaining read honestly I don't care much for Carter right now I need closure to the epic love story between Bones & Vanessa. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

😮 Oh My Goodness. The way my mouth dropped to the floor in this book. We got a opportunity to see everyone's point of view in this book. I'm so angry at how hypocritical the Barsetti's are. The sexism they show when all of their stories are no different then Vanessa's. I'm mad at Pearl not having the backbone to express to her family the feelings Vanessa have for Bones. She's letting things go too easily. I hate how they introduced this new character. I dont like him....at all!!! I also hate how broken Bones is and I blame every single Barsetti. But in the end.... this cliffhanger, just drives you to drink. DAMN CARTER, what have you done now!!! Let's see how Crow likes Bones now.... hopefully respect from this point on. I'm angry at the story, not the book. The book was amazing.

Love love this series, whenever Penelope Sky writes you know your going to be on a roller coaster of emotions.
I was reading this book and was sobbing actually sobbing and then my heart was in my mouth. I keep saying as we keep going on in the series that I’ve never felt so many emotions. Well I certainly have in reading Divine in Lingerie.
Do we still hate Crow do we still love Bones. I so want a happy ending for Bones, never thought in a million years I would be saying that.
If you want to get lost and read about a real man and experience some Italian sights, this is the series for you.

So much happens in this next book in the series....hurt, betrayal, acceptance, family division, marriage, new beginnings and painful decisions. Penelope Sky takes the Barsetti Family and completely shatters their foundation. But will the one person who has been outcasted by the family hold the information that will make or break the family apart? Or will decisions that were made be the nail in the family coffins? I could not put this book down. My emotions ran from deep anger and sadness to cheering for the underdog. I cannot wait to see where this goes from here.

This it was really unnecessary and annoying, I completely hate Crow and Conway, i mean after all the things that bones did for redim his father mistakes it wasn't enough, even when it wasn't his responsability fix the mistakes. Also they don't stop telling Vanessa that she should going on, That really piss me of and get over with mi patience they say thoose thing even when they couldn't left the one they truly love, it was hipocritical, I mean that's bullshit.
Until now is the wors of the serie, in my opinion.

NO ONE TALK TO ME THESE BOOKS KEEP GETTING BETTER WND BETTER !!!

bones is 10/10 the best man to exist the way he loves Vanessa is just perfection! He’s also super positive despite how sad the breakup was for him :(

Crow and Conway are rude and annoying and are the BIGGEST hypocrites to exist!

I’m starting to get excited for Carter and his love interest but this whole idea of Barseti’s being so aggressive to their love interests in the start is just so odd to me!! Like they can be annoying but not creepy!!

Sadly, we didn’t get any Vanessa and bones interactions in this book but holy the build up and them both struggling without each other is crazy! And despite that, bones still was optimistic that she moved on from him (that’s what he thinks but internally she misses him as much a he misses her)!!

Not enough Griffin

Sorry. This one was just boring. Everything in this book could have been done in 3 chapters. Conway is a hypocritical jerk. All the Barsettis are. Vanessa is a wimp. No one who really loves someone, especially the way she claims to love Griffin would have let him leave. I have been there. I chose my love. My father got over it.
First part made me cry, then I got angry and then bored. Wasted my money. Skimmed through it to get to the end and hope to reach resolution with the next

Okay, this one had me waiting, wishing, wand worrying the whole book. The story was slaughtered me emotionally. My heart ached for them both and the anxiety was too much at times. But the story was too good to put the book down. This series rocks!!Now I have to wait until mid August for the next installment. My goodness!!! I can’t take it!

FINALLY!

This is the first book of the series that I'm giving 4 stars! This one hit me hard! I was angry at everyone! LOL Every time a chapter was a character other than Vanessa or Bones, I was pissed...lol. I'm trying my best not to give any spoiler alerts ...I have to stop writing now...or else. This one makes the series worth reading!
