DI Jemima Huxley never expected to hear the name Byron Toombes again, at least not in connection with Violet Watkins.

Six years ago, Jemima was faced with her first encounter with a stalker. Violet was the unfortunate victim who had captured his attention. Toombes was resourceful and even with law enforcement doing everything in their power to protect her ... it just wasn't enough.

After nearly killing Jemima's partner, and giving her a body beating she will never forget, Toombes managed to get away ... and until today has not been seen or heard from again.

Today, Jemima gets a phone call from Violet's husband ... she and some co-workers went out the night before... Violet never returned home. He is absolutely sure that Toombes is behind this and he's frantic.

While investigating, what Jemima finds is a third member of the previous night's meeting ... and she. also, has never returned home. Upon breaking into her house, Jemima finds something that changes everything.

It's a frantic chase to find Toombes, find Violet, hopefully alive, and once and for all. put Toomes behind bars where he belongs.

It's action at a breakneck pace, from start to finish. Characters are solidly drawn and won't be soon forgotten. The book starts at the present, bounces back to the past, and then to the present again, so that the reader gets the full story of Jemima's meeting with Toombes. It's a riveting read leading to an unexpected conclusion.

Although 3rd in the series, this is easily a stand alone. I do recommend starting at the beginning. The intense relationship between Jemima and her partner is well worth following.

Many thanks to the author / Sapere Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Stalked is the third instalment in the Detective Inspector Jemima Huxley series, set in Cardiff, Wales, and is the most gripping book in this chilling contemporary thriller series yet. It isn't necessary to have read the previous instalment to enjoy this one as the story is self-contained. It's 2013 and Violet Watkins has put in a complaint about her neighbour Byron Toombes harassing her. The police manage to piece together enough evidence to arrest him but he appears to have already fled. Then Violet is abducted by her stalker. Luckily, she survives the ordeal. Fast forward to 2019 and Jemima receives a frantic phone call from Charlie Morgan, Violet’s husband, claiming Violet has disappeared after a night spent with work colleagues. Jemima’s partner PC Dan Broadbent worked the case with her back in 2013 and their relationship was strained as he resented Jemima for receiving the promotion he felt was his. Now they must work together again to find Violet and locate Byron as they feel it is likely he has returned to gain vengeance on Violet for reporting him to the police. Can they save her life and apprehend the stalker who has now taken things way too far.

This is a captivating and exciting thriller with many twists, turns, red herrings and a whole lot going on. I found this was the best instalment so far as this story is particularly well crafted. As police procedurals go this is a thoroughly enjoyable one; it has pace, is well written and full of surprises. It had me engrossed from the first couple of chapters and I thought the characters were as engaging as in previous instalments. I liked hearing more about our protagonist Jemima's personal life and her relationship with her partner Dan which appears to be a thread that'll run throughout the series. Jemima is also a very likeable person who strives to do her utmost to achieve justice for Violet's family. I wasn't expecting the surprising, almost shocking conclusion and the ability of the author to keep secrets under wraps until the very end was impressive and added to the drama and suspense. With lots of action, some superb twists and an interesting cast, this is a page-turner I highly recommend. Many thanks to Sapere Books for an ARC.

Wow, what a thriller!

A man phones the police to report that his wife has gone missing after a night out with work colleagues. The woman Violet is known to the police, as she was the victim of a stalker in the past.
The story takes the reader back six years and delves into that particular case.
This is an extremely compelling and gripping read, linking the past with the present.
DI Huxley and her team take massive risks to bring an end to this drawn-out and particularly nasty case.
An excellent read, which is brilliantly written and hard to put down.
Highly recommended.

This is another excellent book from the pen of Gaynor Torrance and is the third book in a series featuring her likable character Detective Inspector Jemima Huxley and her colleagues on the Lisvane (north Cardiff) police force. For this book the author has leaned on her own traumatic experiences as a young girl starting University, where she was subjected to the unwelcome advances of a fellow student who would not take no for an answer. Although the book opens with a present-day missing person case, we soon learn that this could be a repeat of an earlier horrifying case of aggravated stalking, of the same victim, Violet Watkins, from six years back, which had involved DI Huxley, when she was a fresh-faced Police Sergeant, having recently arrived at the Lisvane Police Station. The bulk of the book then takes us back to the earlier crimes, and also introduces us to some more of Jemima’s early family life, including the issues she had had with her sister Lucy, who was their mother’s favourite child. The stalking of the book's title becomes progressively unpleasant and ends with murder; with Sgt Huxley and her partner Detective Constable Broadbent being seriously injured and a perpetrator who escapes a major police hunt and vanishes. Coming back to the present time and the abduction of the same victim as before, the police reopen the case of the missing murderer, and the plot moves on from there with the safety of Violet the police's priority. As is usual with the author, the plot has many twists and turns and accelerates to a thrilling and very unexpected climax. I really enjoyed this latest outing of Jemima Huxley and her team and look forward to future episodes. The earlier books, Revenge and Sole Survivor are also very much worth a read, but each story stands well on its own, so you could go back to these later if, as I am sure you will, you enjoy Stalked as much as I have. My thanks go to Sapere Books for providing me a copy for review.

This fast paced thriller had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. The novel opens with a car crash and abduction the main character, Violet. Violet’s husband is distraught when he reports her missing after she fails to return home from a girls night out. Though there’s little evidence, he’s certain her stalker from the past is the culprit.
The story travels back in time to provide back ground leading up to the present day abduction. Though Violet is the main focus, we learn more about the officers investigating the case, Detective Huxley and Broadbent. The strife in their partnership as well as the challenges in their personal life are well developed in the novel. The other character we learned extensively about is Byron Toombs, the stalker. The author has not just created a villain, he’s to be admire for how crafty he is at out witting the cops at every turn even at the end.

This novel took me on a roller coaster ride as they raced to arrest Bryon only to have him escape custody. Then another race to save violet. I held my breath wondering what the next scene would bring. The twist at the end was unexpected with lots of loose ends to be resolve is other books.

I enjoyed the parallel plots that explored the professional relationship angst between the detectives. I also enjoyed the plot centered around Jemima dealing with childhood trauma, her relationship with her sister and husband. The twist added at the end abut her own stalker was a nice addition. The description is perfect along with pacing and flow. I didn’t feel overwhelmed as additional characters were added as they enhanced the story. They flowed easily into the narrative.

This is a very entertaining read and I will be picking up others in the series.

Stalked is the third book in the series about DI Jemima Huxley by Gaynor Torrance. The book starts with a kidnapping, but readers must go back in time to learn who the kidnapping victim is and how she came to be in this position.

Six years ago, Jemima was a newer inspector and worked a stalking case. Violet was being stalked by Byron - with deadly consequences for those close to the case. This book takes readers back to the nuts and bolts of this case. You know Violet has been kidnapped, but what is her connection to her present-day kidnapper? Is Byron back after all these years and is finally getting what he really wants?

The book was a little slow - over 50% was told in the past while readers know there is a current case. This is the first book I have read by this author and when she brought readers back to the present it was a bit jarring. Jemima's life had changed drastically - her husband is estranged and on the run and she has custody of her stepson. Covering two cases in one book, even with the same victim, is rare, but it works.

Stalked kept me turning the pages and I was interested in Jemima and her work. I would like to read more by this author. Good police-procedure thriller.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank You Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book!

This is the first time I am reading the book from this author and first time reading this series. This is actually the third book of the Jemima Huxley series but you don't necessary need to read the last two books.

In 2019, Jemima Huxley gets a frantic call from Charlie Morgan, claiming, Violet Morgan had gone missing after spending a night with her colleagues from work. Six years ago, Jemima Huxley had been investigating a case of stalking when Violet complained that her next door neighbor, Bryon Toombes had been harassing her. The police failed to arrest Bryon as he had escaped. Now with time running out, Bryon must have returned back to seek revenge from Violet.

I really like the plot line of the story. The writing was good and the author did a good job making the reader hooked into the story. The thriller is a fast paced thriller with lots of action that will make you feel breathless at some parts. It was actually an interesting book with some twists and turns. However, the ending to me was a bit predictable to me.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. Worth five stars!

Gaynor Torrance writes with such passion. DI Jemima Huxley is busy trying to rebuild her life after her husband Nick ran off to hide from the fact that their relationship had fallen apart. This left Jemima with Nick's son James , a full time Mum, and a full time career, the two difficult to manage at the same time. With her promotion to Inspector she also has to deal with the " She only got the job because they needed to fill the female quota" pressures within the Police and also with her colleague DS Broadbent. Stalked is a rollercoaster ride with a case from her and Broadbent's past coming back to haunt them. The pace of the story feels as if you are riding the rollercoaster and have no control as to how it may end. Twists to the tale, close to the end, leave you satiated but at the same time wishing for revenge. Great read, best yet from Gaynor Torrance (DI Huxley) and now look forward to more. First class thriller.

Once again, I'm torn with what rating to give DI Jemima Huxley. I've come to the conclusion that I don't really like her as the main protagonist, but I thoroughly enjoy the cases she solves; I like Broadbent and Kennedy, though. In terms of the writing, I find that the pace and ebbs and flows, but not necessarily in a good way, with the build-up sometimes dragging, and then ending being rushed, as if Gaynor Torrance runs out of ideas to get to her end result. In this book, with effectively two cases in one, the split made for very interesting reading, and when I thought I'd predicted the outcome, I was pleasantly surprised by the twist. I will read further books in the series, and I do recommend these books for people who enjoy crime novels. My thanks to Sapere Books for the opportunity to read it.

A fast-paced story that was gripping from start to finish. As with the two previous books in this series, the story is very well written, with relatable characters and well-constructed dialogue resulting in a very disturbing – but also satisfying – storyline. Also, we learn more about what makes the relationship between DI Huxley and her Sergeant Dan Broadbent ‘tick’. I hope this continues to be developed in future books in the series. Whilst ‘Stalked’ works well as a standalone, a knowledge of what has happened in the two previous books gives the reader a more detailed insight into the main characters’ backgrounds, flaws, etc. For me, ‘Stalked’ is an easy 5* rating.

'Stalked' begins in the present time when the victim of an old stalking case goes missing and as the guy was never brought to trial, DI Jemima Huxley and her partner DS Broadbent are put back onto the investigation. We then head back to 2013 to be given the background to the case and what ensued before coming back up to date.
There are lots of twists and turns throughout making it a very enjoyable read. The story does become a bit more poignant when we read that it is partially based on Gaynor's own experiences at the hands of a stalker.

Thank you to Sphare books for allowing me to review this book.

This is the third book I have read by Gaynor Torrance- this book had me groped from the start. It kept me gripped right from the start and It kept thinking just one more chapter - as short chapters that allows you to take a brake but makes it harder to put down.

The book starts with a missing person but very quickly takes you back 6 years to when Violet was being stalked and brings you back to the current day when she is reported missing my her husband.

A great read and I would say this is my favourite book by Gaynor so far.

Three stars for this crime thriller.
Jemima has just earned the Sargent position, and her first case is to catch a stalker who is following the granddaughter of a local judge. She and her partner would never guess the case would span over six years and multiple hospitalizations.
I could not put Stalked down at the beginning. But toward about 40% the action slowed and it was hard for me to keep reading. Finally about 70% until the end it was action packed and so enjoyable!
I didn’t realize this was number 3 in a series, but it was still enjoyable. There were references to her past. I do think I will go back and read the first two!

I really enjoy these books featuring DI Jemima Huxley. They are well plotted and filled with suspense, action and mystery. The plot in this one is a bit different from the previous two and centres around stalking. A woman, from a previous case, goes missing whilst on a night out and the past comes back to haunt Jemima and DS Broadbent. I think this is the best yet in the series but read it and make up your own mind. Thanks to Net Galley for a very good read.

A fast paced story on the topic stalking. The book shows how it affects the woman's life and self esteem. To know that it is based on the experience of the author is frightening. More stringent laws to protect women is the need of the hour, rather than placing the burden of proof on their shoulders. A must read.

Another great book. This was almost two in one as part of the book was the back story of Jemima joining the team and a case which affected her and the team and forms the backdrop for the current case.
Jemima’s home life is also under threat as her husband’s behaviour is increasingly erratic and she’s trying to balance the job and her family.
Looking forward to the next instalment.

Enjoying this series, there is still some too obvious coincidences, but much less than the last book. It was good to have some historical context to Huxley and Broadbent, I wonder if this will be explored in further volumes.

One loose end around the death of a character, and a tenuous link for the books title, but otherwise very satisfying. Looking forward to the next instalment.

A quick read.

An average crime novel - echoes of Prime suspect, but not the same level of suspense. The twist towards the end good though.
