“Murder close to home is like a knife in the heart.” Murder strikes close to home when an altercation between two dog owners in the famous Parc Monceau triggers a brutal murder in an alley behind the Paris apartment building of expat and private eye Claire Baskerville. Already struggling with the unexpected and rancorous visit of her daughter Catherine—as well as the desperate hunt for one of her missing grandbabies—Claire is reluctant to take the case of the murder of Madame Lavigne until she is dramatically shown just how vital it is that the elderly dog lover gets justice. Not just for her, and the building they all live in, but for Claire too—and as it turns out, the safety of her whole family. This was the tenth book in the American in Paris mystery series about Claire Baskerville and it was fabulous!
Claire's family situation has become more chaotic than usual with her daughter Catherine and grandson Cameron returning to Paris from the States. Catherine is so angry at her mother for keeping knowledge of the baby Maddie from her and is still in the grips of PTSD from the incidents in the last book.
Meanwhile, at the request of her friend Genevieve, Claire reluctantly agrees to investigate the murder of another resident of her apartment building in an effort to clear a friend of the murder. As is often the case, things are not always what they seem!
The great news is that Jean-Marc has returned to Paris ready to forgive Claire and resume their relationship. I can't wait for the next installment.
I’ve been a long time fan of this author, but sometimes she drives me crazy! Fortunately, Deadly Adieu resolves several ongoing conflicts among the characters, and we can see a brighter future for Claire in Paris. Intriguing, with several twists and turns, ending as an exciting and satisfying read.
This was the 10th book in this fun series set in Paris. Claire is an ex-pat and a private detective who solves murders. When a woman in her building is murdered, Claire steps In to find the culprit. Amidst her investigation, family drama surrounds her, but as usual, In end she figures it out. Love this series!
I love this series! Clare Baskerville seems surrounded by family issues and murderers, yet she still solves murders, though not without putting herself at risk.
Love the images the author’s words paint of France with their customs and neighborhoods.
I love the setting taking place in Paris. The stories keep me guessing or surprise me. There is one story line that I wish it would be over with ... It has run its course. Looking forward to the next new book.
Another excellent story involving Claire and her family. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Great descriptions of places and people and I’m hungry fo some of those delicious French pastries!
