Sins and secrets are hard to keep hidden in a small town…
When Claudia Clark was involved in a tragic accident in high school, it set her on a devastating path toward heartbreak. For the past eight years, she’s carefully guarded her heart. With her business now thriving, she doesn’t have time for any unwanted distractions. She’s learned from her mistakes. But when the biggest one of all comes face to face with her again, she starts to question the belief she’s desperately clung to for so long.
Dorian Vance can’t get over his past—or the girl that it’s wrapped up in. So when a family emergency brings him back to the small town of River Hollow, he decides it's time to accept the truth and confront the girl he left behind. Unfortunately for him, she’s dead set on making him pay for his sins.
As sparks start flying and well-meaning townsfolk meddle in their affairs, Dorian and Claudia are forced to resurrect old ghosts that lay buried in a mire of guilt and shame. But as they find themselves in the center of a vengeful scheme, the hope and forgiveness they seek seem impossible to obtain.
Dulcie is a wife and mother who channels her free spirit into the stories she pours onto the page. Her romance writing obsession turned day job is fueled by caffeine, sarcasm, and kisses from her bearded grump. If you love stories with sizzling tension minus the spice, add her books to your never-ending TBRs.
There was a ton that I loved about this novel. First of all, can I say that I ADORED that the heroine was a "curvy" woman. I could empathize with her internal thoughts and insecurities in this regard, and it was refreshing to read.
It was humerous, fun, sweet, and I was especially pleased with the Christian content. This was not merely a novel that mentioned church in one chapter and called it good, but faith elements were talked about throughout in a way that was natural as characters lived out their faith in word and deed.
I will say that the assault scene was a bit much for me, and I had to skim over most of it. It was short, and having read reviews ahead of time, I knew it was coming. I wasn't deterred from reading, and after reading, I would still read it, but if that kind of thing is a trigger, be forewarned that it's there.
Overall, I recommend this to anyone who enjoys contemporary Christian romance with a small town feel and sweet second chance romances.
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of Not Since You to honestly read and review. This is a Christian second chance, small town romance story that I overall enjoyed, but ultimately had a hard time connecting with our main characters. The faith content in this story is great and I really liked the way it ended.
About the story: Claudia Clark has guarded her heart for the past 8 years, after her young love, Dorian Vance left town, leaving her and their relationship behind. When Dorian returns to the small town of River Hollow due to his mother’s sickness, he looks to resurrect old ghosts that lay buried in his past with Claudia. He wants to start over with Claudia, but she isn’t so sure it’s the right thing for her life. She’s still angry with Dorian for leaving all those years ago. Will they reconcile their differences?
What I liked: - Great faith content including prayers, church discussions, worship music mentioned etc. - Sweet small-town, second chance romance vibes - Dorian’s heart for his mom - The ending was sweet and really enjoyed finding out why Dorian left many years ago, it made me tear up! - Claudia and Dorian’s redemption stories from their past and how they got to know Christ and how they learned forgiveness and more
What I didn’t like: - I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I hoped to. - Dorian’s pursuing of Claudia was a bit much and a little unrealistic for me personally - Claudia’s mom bothered me as she was just a bit off putting and she didn’t keep her daughters promise to not intervene
Overall, a cute second chance romance and I plan to read the next book in her series.
There aren’t enough words to describe how much I loved this book. The tension between Dorian and Claudia was brilliantly done. From the very start, i didn’t want to put it down. How Ms. Dulcie made you fall in love with these characters so quickly is truly a gift. Both MCs were lovable from the very start. They both had their struggles but I love how God’s grace and love was woven so flawlessly through the plot. It was a powerful love story between two broken people and a God who never gives up on His children. Honestly one of my new all-time favorite books. I can’t wait to hold the paperback in my hands!
A new genre; Christian contemporary romance as someone who gets their daily dose of romance from fantasy books Dulcie Damerson’s debut novel was one for the books The book is sweet, witty, and full of grace A small-town second chance romance between former high school best friends and lovers Dorian and Claudia. But all of that comes to a halt Life takes Dorian and Claudia on different paths; themselves reconnecting eight years later. This book had me chuckling at Claudia’s wittiness , this is the perfect summer read for all my Christian girly girls out there!
This was a cute, quick read. If you like sweet romance, then you'll enjoy this story. I liked nearly all of the characters (you'll see why some aren't likable) and really enjoyed the setting. I love small town stories. The characters are a good example of forgiving others and the importance of trust & friendship.
I liked getting to know Claudia. She definitely lives up to the "hometown girl" image. Also, l really appreciated that she was a bit curvy. We need more of those kinds of characters. You get a sense right away that she's well liked by most everyone in the town. I loved her gumption to use her craft to start a business. Her friend, and mentor, Prue was a delightful characters. Her quirkiness is just the best!
Then Dorian shows back up and while I wanted to like him, I was on Claudia's side and reserved the right to not like him unless she did. hahaha Dorian does end up growing on all of us. His heart for his mom and clearly his remorse for leaving Claudia softens all of our hearts.
I had an issue with Claudia's mother as a character in that, she broke her word to her daughter twice, was unapologetic about it, and put it on Claudia that she was being selfish. Honestly, I would have never trusted my mother's word again after. Her mom loves her, it was just these couple instances that bothered me. I understand that it was part of the storyline to move it forward, but wasn't a fan of how it was written.
I was surprised at how sinister one of the characters ended up being. The person wasn't likable in general, but wow, how despicable they truly were was creepy. This was an interesting element to add to the story.
*I was given the ebook for a tour, but not asked to review it. This is my personal opinion.
Claudia's life is finally on a path that she's been planning and working on for years. Her quirky yet warm gift shop featuring her handcrafted candles is on the horizon! She is signing the contract now. Next, she'll be painting, putting up shelves, and getting ready to open. There are just two problems--or maybe three? The boy who broke her heart is back in town. The mayor just will not leave her alone. And her heart STILL hasn't forgotten her first love and is trying to race ahead of her brain.
Dorian has been gone a long time, it's true. But his mom doesn't have long to live and has moved to hospice care. He has left the Air Force, moved back to his home town, and his heart, too, has never forgotten Claudia.
But if he's going to stay, they're going to have a lot of problems to overcome. The years and the distance. The tragedy that many have never forgotten nor forgiven the two for. Again, the mayor. Can a youthful love and friendship survive the years of distance and the pain that separated Dorian and Claudia? You'll have to read it to find out! But this will be a lovely addition to your summer reading list. Best of all, it's the first in a new series, Secrets of River Hollow, so we'll get to meet more town residents in the future!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This is a cute Christian contemporary fiction, second chance romance with small town vibes!
Claudia and Dorian were high school sweethearts until a tragic accident occurred. Dorian leaves town and when he returns eight years later, decides it is time to confront the one woman who got away.
Claudia was heartbroken when Dorian left and feels conflicted when she sees him again. She still resents his leaving but underneath her anger, she still has feelings for him.
The romance was sweet and there were Christian elements of second chances, prayer, faith and forgiveness. Prue was a delightful side character, Carter was a scumbag, and I wanted to like Claudia's mom but could understand why Claudia didn't trust her!
If you enjoy small town Christian fiction, then this sweet romance is for you!
Trigger warnings: cancer, loss of parent, assault, death of a loved one
I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.
I love this book! The story is well done. The main characters, the town and the people it made me want to live in that place. It was a sweet story, healing and forgiveness and second chance. Great combination! There were minor formatting error but it didn't take away my experience from reading the story. I can't wait to read more of the series.
Loved it !
Absolutely loved every moment of this book! It was one where I easily finished it in a day and could not put it down. I loved that it has faith and Christian themes throughout but never felt preachy or over the top. It just flowed easily and naturally from the characters.
I loved Dorian for his protective hero vibes. I love that he is the one that has fallen first again and isn't afraid to let Claudia know that. I love that he builds her up and always is so sweet and complimentary towards her.
I loved Claudia for having gumption and starting her own business. I loved that we got to watch her journey as she processes having Dorian back in her life and everything they have gone through since he left 8 years before. I love that we get to watch her walls crumble down and her heart softens again towards Dorian.
I loved Dorian's mom sweet Della. I just lost my aunt to cancer last week and so her story really touched my heart. Dorian always so tender with his mom and I definitely shed some tears thinking about their time ending.
Overall if anyone is wanting a heart warming, faith filled romance this one is it! It has me swooning, crying, and all the emotions.
Physical Intimacy Lvl 2 (non descriptive longer kisses) Zero Swearing multiple POV He Falls First Second Chance Protective Hero "Tell me who did this to you" Redemption Forgiveness
Sweet and emotional: This was a sweet second chance, small town romance. I thought there was a good mix of emotion, drama and angst. Claudia and Dorian made a cute couple and it was fun watching them reconnect and work through their issues. I enjoyed discovering the secrets relating to their past which were gradually revealed to us. There was a light Christian message about forgiveness and trusting God and others after being hurt in the past. Overall this was a gentle and enjoyable read, although at times I did find it rather slow and wordy, with a lot of introspection. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a sweet and heartwarming second chance romance. I really felt for both Dorian and Claudia. It was clear that they both still had feelings for each other even though things between them ended eight years earlier following a tragic event and hurtful rumors that affected them both. I was glad that these two were able to work out their differences and open their hearts to each other again.
my new favorite romance! this was such a beautiful story of redemption, forgiveness, && the power of God’s grace both experienced && lived out. i loved the sweet characters that were imperfect but striving to honor the Lord && each other && the wonderful writing that made this story so appealing!
A new to me genre that I’ve started to read more of and enjoy is Christian Romance! I love it because the stories are always so inspiring! They are always so full of faith and love! But also I know it will be a clean read and will leave me feeling happy and fulfilled!! A book that made me feel all of these things is “Not Since You,” by Dulcie Dameron.
This is Dulcie’s debut novel and I would say she hit it out of the park!! She totally nailed the small town and festival setting! Her writing is so descriptive and I felt like I was in the story sometimes because of the beautiful pictures she painted for me! I absolutely enjoyed being in River Hollow and I could totally imagine their Main Street with all the quirky and fun shops and small businesses!
I’m also a sucker for second chance romance! Claudia and Dorian were best friends and dated in high school. Things don’t work out, as there’s a life changing incident which brings challenges and eventually causing Dorian to leave. Time goes by and the two find themselves in the same place again!
I love the message of forgiveness that happens throughout the story, not only between the characters but they learn to forgive themselves and give themselves grace! There are definitely lots of emotional parts in the story and Claudia has some walls up, which keeps it slow burn!
Also there are some really fun side characters in this story! It’s not hard to fall in love with Claudia’s meddling friend, Prue!! She’s so cute! And Claudia’s mom, Mama Clark is such a gem as well! I can’t wait to see where this series will go next, I’ll be along for the ride for sure!
If you love small town vibes, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, and lots of wonderful themes and messages, keep an eye out for this amazingly sweet book coming soon!
*I received a complimentary copy in exchange for me honest review
I LOVE Christian Fiction Romance books and I also LOVE reading Debut Novels from new authors. Not Since You by Dulcie Dameron fits both categories and I recently had the honor of reading the book.
Claudia Clark has been living a good life for the past eight years, since graduating High School. She has a thriving business and is focused on continued growth. She had heartbreak in High School after a Tragic Accident and hasn't been in a relationship since then. She feels she is at a great point now and then she is face to face with the one who broke her heart. Dorian Vance left his hometown of River Hollow not too long after High School. A family Emergency has bought him back to town. He knows it is time to face his past and the girl that he cannot forget, Claudia Clark. Although he is ready to accept the truth of the past, Claudia is wanting to make him pay for what he did.Small Town means everyone knows everything and the Townspeople are very interested in the couple and helping them move forward. Will Claudia be able to work things out with Dorian and move forward in life? Will there be reconciliation and rekindling of their love for each other?
Ohhhh, how I LOVE storylines based in Small Towns. I was hooked on the book from the very first chapter and I continued reading for about 4 hours and I was done! The author really has a great writing style and the characters and setting are so wonderful. Claudia is a beautiful and strong woman who knows what she wants in life and wants to focus on the future, not the past. Dorian is a man who knows he did wrong in the past and wants to make amends, but didn't foresee how much work it would be to make amends. I LOVE how the Townspeople wanted to help the pair and see them as a couple again. The faith-based message is there and focuses on Forgiveness, Faith, and Second Chances. GREAT BOOK!
This was a cute book by a new author. I was given the chance to read an advanced copy and just finished last night. I enjoyed the plot of the story quite a bit. It was a nice second chance romance.
An accident in their last year of high school leads to pain and heart ache for CC and Dorian when Dorian decides he needs to leave River Hollow. CC is left heartbroken and alone in the wake of rumors that are just not true. But when eight years of healing and growth go by Dorian shows up on CC's doorstep determined to never let her say no to him.
CC doesn't want to see Dorian. She doesn't want to become stuck in the distrust and pain of the past. But his mother is terminally ill, and she can't leave him to handle that without a friend-the good Christian that she tries to be. As they forge a tentative friendship again, Dorian takes his time and doesn't force the deep love he still has for her on her. He doesn't waste time telling her however. Now it is up to CC to decide if she can trust her feelings about him, or keep her distance.
But as they spend time together an old pest decides to make trouble for them. They have to work together to stay together, and keep that which is dearest to them.
I enjoyed the twist near the end and the way Dulcie handled the flashback to the accident. I was thinking the whole time that I knew what it was, but I personally was wrong. I was glad to be wrong though.
I enjoyed the story and can see myself picking up the next one.
This debut novel from Dulcie Dameron is a sweet, emotional second chance romance set in a small town. The themes of forgiveness and grace are strong throughout where we see the characters learning what it is to truly forgive each other and themselves with a Christian perspective.
Claudia and Dorian were best friends to more in high school until a tragic accident (that the details about are slowly revealed throughout the story) changed everything. There is great tension and banter as Claudia is struggling with even wanting to let Dorian back into her life at all and trying to keep walls up any way she knows how. Prue and Mama Clark are fantastic side characters, adding such fun and sweetness. Overall this is a story of growth and redemption, with plenty of sweet and swoony moments, and a heartwarming HEA.
There are hard topics of loss of life, parent loss, and assault—which were handled well and brought great depth to the story—but may be a trigger for some.
I look forward to more from this small town of River Hollow!
I really enjoyed this story. It was my first time reading a book by Dulcie Dameron (and I know I will definitely be reading more by her!) and I thought that she has a wonderful writing style. It’s very easy to identify with her characters and I LOVED the home town feel Not Since You brought me.
Dulcie Dameron had some fantastic heart tugs, rich with forgiveness, second chances, and a fun sense of humor. Her characters were very relatable and I thought they were very well executed, had great arcs, and they were people I could easily see myself being friends with them. I definitely will be looking for more book in this series. 4 Stars.
*I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback.
Four stars Wow! This was my first book by Dulcie and it did not disappoint (thanks for the recommendation, Tawni!) It is a Christian second-chance romance that doesn’t shy away from hard topics like grief, guilt, and even drug/alcohol abuse. Both Claudia and Dorian have worked hard to overcome their shadowed high school pasts, but they just can’t get over each other. I enjoyed the romance between them. I loved how willing Dorian was to push past Claudia’s bitterness against him in order to convince her that he’s trustworthy, without being a pushy jerk (cough, Carter, cough.) I only wish it was longer to explore more of their pasts and how they healed from it.
Warning: this book mentions: sexual assault, car accidents, grief, and parental death.
A story of love, redemption, and most importantly forgiveness.
Not Since You has great depth to the plot. As the series title suggests, there are many secrets woven into the story that we are gradually introduced to. Getting to know Claudia and Dorian was a slow burn. This second chance/ enemies to more will have you pulling at your heart strings.
Loved the story line. I enjoyed the build of the characters Dorian and Claudia. I'm happy it wasn't dragged out. The most beautiful parts were all the moments they trusted God with their weaknesses and shortcomings. Also being able to see the fruits of their trust in God and consistent prayer life. I also enjoyed the fact that they were relatable Christians, getting angry, wanting to deal with matters in their own way but still being obedient when The Holy Spirit corrects them. Great read!
This book was so good that I couldn't put it down. I read it within two days. The chemistry between Claudia and Dorian was swoon-worthy and I loved that things weren't overly drawn out.
I loved Mama Clark and her matchmaking meddling made me laugh. Faith was a strong factor in this book and I appreciated how the author showed each character growing and surrendering to God.
I'd definitely read this again and more from this author!
Small town, second chance, enemies to lovers, realistic Christian characters. When Dorian skipped town eight years ago, he left Claudia with a broken heart and the brunt of the fallout from his mistakes. Now he's back, confident, a bit cocky, and entirely hopeful that Claudia will give him a second chance.
But she's having none of it. She hasn't been sitting around and pining for the past eight years- she's built her business, made friends, become a pillar in her community, and moved on.
Well, mostly moved on, right?
Just what Dorian's mistakes were and why he left town was a mystery that kept me turning pages and made total sense when I reached the revelation. I enjoyed my time with the people of River Hollow, and I think you will, too.
Just kisses romance. 3rd POV, Multi POV. Second Chance Christian Romance. High School Sweethearts. Ex Military (Air Force) Claudia is hurt and grumpy. Sunflower festival. Motorcycle riding 🏍 Smooth, swoony, and flirty mmc. Feeding bison roadside. Forehead kisses. Meddling friends. Touch her and ☠️ vibes 🤌🏻 Did he hurt you? I so enjoyed Claudia and Dorian's story!! Looking forward to the rest of the series!!
High school sweethearts reunite after 8 long years. There is that special passion and chemistry that’s between them, the kind that you just know they are “the one”. When you know… you know! The hurts and decisions from the past have to be worked out for their love to rekindle. I appreciate the sweet romance and lovely storyline. Clean romance readers will want to add this one to their to-read list!
Not Since You is a sweet contemporary romance. It’s a second-chance love story with truly likable female and male leads who have grown and matured separately since they dated in high school years before. The sweet chemistry, banter, and rediscovered love are well done, and the plot is compelling and kept me turning pages. I also enjoyed the fact that the story is set against a small-town backdrop with a few quirky characters and hints at more.
If you’re looking for a fairly low-stress, clean romantic read that still has a little suspense and plenty of heart and backstory, add Not Since You to your list.
I loved this story of passion, past mistakes, and learning to forgive and move forward. I couldn’t put it down! I enjoyed the mystery to the accident that happened 8 years ago and some intense whats going to happen scenes with the Mayor keeping me on my toes the whole time.
Great clean romance. I enjoyed the villain portrayed in the story and how he was brought to justice. I also enjoyed the challenge and work Doran had to do to win CC back into his life. I recommend this story for the young adult reader.
