In another time, in another place…

The year is 1985 and Butch Casady is a no-nonsense kind of guy.

Raised blue collar, he lives in a small town in the midwest. He works hard, plays hard, and takes care of his beloved grandmother.

Covering the late shift at his towing company, he decides to stop at the convenience store before heading home for the night.

That’s when he first crosses paths with Francine.

Looking desperate - and hungry - he helps her with her groceries. And even though he doesn’t see her again, for some reason, the memory of the girl sticks with him.

Until he’s called to tow a broken down car alongside Route 8.

And has a chance encounter with Francine once more. Sort of.

No longer timid and shy, this girl has obviously been through a lot in the two years since he last saw her. But is she ready for what it means to owe a favor to the town’s notorious bad boy?

Not for me. I wanted to give it a chance because it was part of a book club pick. I'm my opinion it reads like a sitcom in the 80s with a little soap opera thrown in. I feel as though the timeline was unrealistic and is intalust/instalove. As for the spice, where was it?! The scenes that were "spicy" were either very stiff sounding or rushed. The only people I really cared for were Lucy and Granny.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author. I thought the writing style was really good. Writing is smooth and easy to read, the story flows well.

The reason I did 3 stars is because the story just wasn’t for me. I don’t know if it’s because it takes place in the 80s or if this is just how the author sees “alpha” males but this book is pretty heavy with misogynistic undertones. There was an emphasis on how much he loved that she was home with a clean house and dinner ready and a packed lunch everyday. It was mentioned more than once. With the exception of the MC’s grandma, there were only two other women and both he had slept with. It just felt like instant conflict for any other women in the book. There was also a weird fixation on drinking beer and drinking wine was a “snooty” thing to do. It seemed to be used as a “blue collar people drink beer and are manly” and why would you drink something else. The book is in the male MC’s point of view so maybe that’s why I felt like I didn’t really get a good impression of the female MC’s personality. She just felt like a place holder, any woman would fit there.

I don’t know that I’ll continue with this series but I may try this author’s fantasy series. Like I said, the writing is done well and I’m hoping that it’s just this story I didn’t enjoy.

do not pass this book up.

Fate introduced Butch and Franny 2 years ago and now two years fate works it magic.

What I loved:
The music sound track
How Butch is an amazingly hot, sweet romantic man
-Francine is every bit of an anomaly from being raised by rich, stiff, unloving people and turning out with a warm heart but a wonderfully strong inner spirit. You want to be besties with her.
-Granny Jean and Baby LuLu.
-Butch’s friends, gives a nice introduction to the men who will likely follow in the series.

What I didn’t like
-the separation forced by deceit and greed. Although it did show us the strength of Butch’s love for his girls.

This book is a wonderful example how turning the era I grew up in into a “historical” romance. I feel really old.

A chance meeting between two strangers who meet again two years down the line.

Butch runs a tow truck company in a small town. He stops by the grocery store one night, and bumps into Franny.

Fast forward to two years later, when he is called to go and help someone stranded in a snow storm. It turns out it's Franny and her baby daughter. Being short of options in this small town, he suggests that she stays at his place. She accepts and this is the start of their future. She appears to be too trusting, considering that she is running away from a toxic relationship.

It's insta love. Butch is a Saint who doesn't just fall for Franny, but is enamoured by her baby girl. It's a good concept, but I had a problem with how fast everything happens. There is some excitement towards the end which makes the read more appealing. Butch's friends are a good bunch who get along very well.

I received an eARC from BookSirens and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

One thing that I don’t see much in romance books, is the story told strictly from the male perspective; so this one surprised me. Butch is the perfect blend of sweet & protective, with a dash of reformed bad boy thrown into the mix. This story is set in the late 1980s, so there’s a bit of life simplicity that you just don’t see in our current times.

While a strong female lead is a must for me (don’t worry, Franny is), I fell hard for Butch and his weakness for not only his Grandmother, but is protectiveness over Franny & little LouLou. The protectiveness did come on a bit too strong at the beginning, but I loved seeing how Butch easily slipped into the father-figure role with Lucy.

Thank you @krisreneeauthor for this gifted book. This opinion is my own.

I really enjoyed Butch! I love that it took place in 1985 (I graduated from high school in 1988, so many of the references to things in the 80's were fun to read). The author did an excellent job of keeping things real for that time frame. It was almost surreal to have someone call on an actual landline and not rely on a cell phone or any other 'modern' conveniences! lol

Butch was a little rough around the edges but he had such an amazing heart that you couldn't help but fall in love with him! And Francine… I'm so glad that she got to meet him, not just once but twice and that he fell so hard for her!

This is the first book I have read by this author and I liked it as far as it went. I felt that the characters went a bit fast in how they got together physically. If she was truly a victim of emotional, physical and verbal abuse I do not believe that she would have trusted him as quickly as she did. They only knew each other one day and she allowed him to make sexual advances towards her. Other than that this was a good book. The overall chemistry between the characters was good if a bit fast. As the book went on I got sucked into their story. By the end I was hooked.

I have so many thoughts about this book. First, I love that it takes place in the 80’s, and all of the references and clothing, down to the jazzercise.

Butch is everything. He’s a tow truck owner, and knows what he wants. He accidentally meets this pregnant woman at the local quick mart, who just needs a little help, while her boyfriend, who is a complete mullet headed douchebag is honking his horn for her to hurry up.

2 years goes by. There’s a really bad snowstorm, and Butch is called out. He sees her, the same girl he’s been thinking about for the past two years. And she’s got a little girl.

Butch and Franny meet in a small convenience store and I think for him it was love at first sight. He would never admit that of course. A couple years later Franny escapes a terrible relationship and falls in Butch's lap. The fact that Butch doesn't hesitate to help Franny and her daughter hits home for me.
This is the first book that I have read from Kris Renee but I have since bought all the books that she has. She is a great writer and the books are perfect for a quick weekend read. An escape from reality. Highly recommend.

A chance encounter at a convenience store. And then he never saw her again. Until two years later when he towed her car during a blizzard. It’s obvious she’s running from someone with her toddler daughter! He’s never forgotten her, but will she remember him? Will she accept the help he’s offering her and Lucy?

A great story about a second chance for Franny and the confirmed bachelor who saved her!

A Perfect Blend of Comfort and Spice

I am a huge fan of Kris Renee and this book did not disappoint! It's the perfect combination of cozy comfort, spicy romance, and "workin' man" charm. You're routing for the FMC/MMC the whole way through, wishing you had a Butch of your own. 10/10 would recommend!

I received this book via #goodreadsgiveaway.

I absolutely loved it. Love everyone in it, including Gran, Lucy and Lucky.

It was a great way to tell the story and very 80's referenced due to the era is based in, but for us 80's kids definitely a must read.

Set in the 80's this a good read. Butch meets a pregnant girl in the store one night. Two years later he has a call to pick up a broken-down car with the same girl inside. This was a good story and I really enjoyed reading it.

This (spicy) novel read very much like a lifetime movie (which I tend to enjoy given the right occasion)!
Overall I found the characters relatable, likeable (or hateable if they were Franny’s dad, ex, or Butch’s ex).
Cheesy? Maybe. But it didn’t take away from the book itself for me.

Easy to enjoy

After a few busy and draining days, this was a perfectly spicy light read for a do-nothing day. This time warp love match lightened my mood. Who doesn't dream about meeting their very own small-town gritty gearhead with the talent to make your engine hum?

This was so much fun!!! I loved all the 80’s nostalgia throughout the entire book! That was such a fun, unique piece of the story! Butch is such an 80’s guys guy, but not in an alpha-hole way. He really is a great guy. We all love a fmc who can put him in his place too!!!

Cute!

I loved revisiting the 80s. It was a great happy ending, and I can’t wait to read more about the other men introduced in this first book.

This was a cute romance to read. The writing was super easy to read and once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down but that’s just in my nature.

I have never read a romance that takes place before 2000 and this was quite enjoyable, though there wasn’t much of a difference to how I would read a recent contemporary romance.

I liked how the story didn’t just end when the characters find their happily ever after. The author gave us more and that more was shockingly what I needed.
