Santa Fe Setup by Katy Lee Wrongly accused and caught in a criminal's crosshairs. Soon after artist Luci Butler learns someone has been hiding drugs inside her paintings she also discovers ruthless killers are aiming to silence her. Only her brother’s coworker, Bard Holland, is on her side. The pair must race to clear her name and track a murderer straight into the unforgiving mountains of New Mexico. Despite Bard’s determined protection, Luci is being drawn dangerously close into a killer’s merciless endgame. This is Luci Butler and Bard Holland's story. The young woman was fast on her feet, so much lighter than himself who had to carry over six feet of bulk muscle. Even with the framed painting tucked under her arm, she managed to stay ahead. The spring in her step faltered, and she looked over her shoulder at him. But she never stopped running. “You’re in danger. I’m here to help you.” “It’s mine!” she shouted back and picked up her steps to run faster. She turned the corner at the next intersection, and when he made it there, she was gone. Bard kept his eyes locked on the man in the black hoodie. Skinny guy, six feet, face shielded beneath the hood. White hands. Hands that were reaching for his gun as Luci came around the corner of the storefront. It was go time. Stay,” he commanded his Belgian Malinois in the back seat of his unmarked car. Bard pulled the door handle and pushed hard. He had his own gun drawn and ready to take the shooter out. “Hold it right there,” he ordered in his most lethal cop voice. Both the shooter and Luci froze. I recommend reading. Santa Fe Setup by Katy Lee is a wonderful well written 5 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Katy Lee. I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.
Another book from Ms. Katy Lee that thrilled and inspired me! I couldn’t put it down! I was happy to get to see Tru Butler’s sister in this story, Luci, get her own story. Luci Butler is an artist and Bard Holland, her brother’s coworker, thinks she might be in danger because of her brother so he’s trying to keeps tabs on her when suddenly she’s attacked. They later find out that someone is hiding drugs in her paintings, and Luci is adamant that the owner of the Gallery is her friend and is innocent, but who could be the culprit? And worse, whoever this is wants her silenced, and will not stop until he silences her for good. Can Bard protect her and help her clear her name while discovering and capturing the murderer who is hiding in the New Mexico mountains? As I said, this was a story I had a hard time to put down! It has constant action from page one, and it keeps you guessing and rooting for Bard and Luci until the end. The main characters felt relatable. I loved Luci’s feisty personality, she was independent and very determined, not easily spooked. Bard was very brave and courageous, and I loved how he decided to trust Luci and he vowed to protect her at any costs. He was a swoony hero. The villain was, well, a real and scary villain. The plot has twists and unexpected turns. All in all, a complete page turner you will have a hard time to put down! It was also inspiring and with a faith theme about trusting God in the most difficult circumstances. I can’t wait for another book from this author! I received a complimentary copy from the author but wasn’t required to post a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
This is a mystery and ends up being a federal crime mystery. It starts out with Lucie Butler who is a painter. She has painted some pictures, but one in particular she made a mistake on and steals back from the exhibit of her work in order to fix the painting. She is caught doing so by Bard Holland who is a BLM investigator, who of course at first suspects her of being part of a crime that seems to be operating out of the art gallery where her pictures are.
Luci feels "unseen because her family seemed to fall apart after her older brother, Jett, lost his memory and it seemed the whole family fell apart. She only has her paintings and the one person who has encouraged her and taught her more of the techniques involved. Suddenly, she finds her faith in him shaken and her family seems to maybe come back around.
In the end Bard learns to look deeper and accept that some of the people who has considered gross enemies and ner-do-wells are maybe not as bad as he thinks, and she learns that anybody, no matter how close you feel to them could, with enough problems and pain, move to the dark side, or betray friendships.
There is a strong religious favor to all of this but it is subtle enough not to lost the very human mytery and challenge that is the main point of the story.
This book is not great art, and a magnificantly "literary work" but it is a sweet story that is worth reading.
Santa Fe Setup is the well written story of Luci Butler and BLM investigator Bard Hollan (and his K9 dog, Hero). Bard was a friend of Luci's older brother and when he senses she might be in trouble... he goes to guard over her. Unbeknownst to him, she is a troublemaker in her own right. Can Bard make right a past wrong and keep Luci alive? Can Luci finally come to terms with her family issues and see the big picture?
There are plenty of twists and turns. The story kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who was the culprit and who really had a part in the crime. Added to that is family drama and a love interest... so much in one little book!
You'll definitely want to read the book to find out! I loved how Santa Fe Setup is a stand alone book, but also connects back to Cavern Cover-up. It's not necessary to read them both, but it was nice reconnecting with characters from the previous book.
Also, I love that I can read Katy Lee's books and not find a ton of spelling/grammatical errors. Too many times, I am so caught up with these issues, that I can't enjoy the books. Thank you to Katy Lee and her editors/proof readers for making her books easier to read!
This is one wild story. Luci Butler has felt abandoned by her family for years, ever since brother Jhett's difficulties had everyone's focus on him. She has become a solitary individual, having immersed herself in her painting. Bard Holland is shocked to see his former friend, Tru Butler's sister, steal a painting from an art gallery/store. He is following her and realizes someone else is too. He quickly learns that her life is in danger. Bard is caught in a mind-boggling situation. Does he arrest the woman or try to protect her? Someone is definitely out to kill the little thief. Shootouts, possible traitors, danger at every stop. Can either one of them figure out what is going on before it's too late? Faith and God's help may be the only way to get through. I really like these two characters. Luci is small in stature and big in loyalty to one person who has noticed her and her talent. Bard is a giant of a man, a law officer who has come to doubt himself, and his ability to assess others and certain situations. He travels with a companion, a very large K-9, Hero, who lives up to his name. This book is an excellent closing to the Butler family series. It can be read as a stand-alone. I want to thank the author for my advanced reader's copy of the book. This is my own unsolicited opinion about it. It's a fast-paced, what's coming next, very good read.
I enjoyed finally getting to read Luci's story, after enjoying enjoying Jett's and Tru's. Luci is a budding artist who has just started making it big when her paintings are being bought, the only problem is, why. People are smuggling drugs in her paintings, but no one will believe that it isn't her that is adding that little extra to each one. Only Bard, her older brother Tru's friend, believes her. Now they have to find out who and why her paintings are being used to smuggle drugs, but will they discover that, before the police discover that her paintings have drugs hidden in them? Find out for yourself when you snag a copy of Santa Fe Setup.
I felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride in the latest book by Katy Lee. From the first lines, "Luci Butler was a thief. Albeit a cute one, but still a thief. And she was being followed by someone other than himself." Fast-paced action, a short "break", and then the ride begins again. I was not only fascinated by the characters, Luci and Bard, but I loved Bard's dog Hero! You will be trying to guess who the "bad guy" is until the very end. I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.
Luci Butler is totally shocked that someone has hidden drugs in her paintings. Bard Holland is contacted by her brother to keep her safe.
As they go about the search for whoever is hiding the drugs in Luci's paintings, Luci finds that people she thought were her friends are not. She is saddened because for the past 12 years, her friends have been her family since she has felt abandoned by her true family.
Will Luci & Bard find out who is hiding the drugs in her paintings? Will Luci resolve her family situation? Read Santa Fe Setup to find out.
Tons was packed into this short suspense novel, so much so that it was difficult to keep up with what was going on from moment to moment! Blink and you miss a plot element…Luci’s an artist and the heroine; Bard an agent for Bureau of Land Management, on leave to do his friend Tru a favor by watching out for his sister. Bard’s dog Hero is along to help.
WOW! What a ride! This book hooks you on the first page and doesn't let go. It's full of action, suspense, drama, intrigue and romance. I loved everything about this book and highly recommend it to anyone who is fan of romantic suspense. I received a complimentary copy and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

WHOW! (This Great Author Katy Lee ) This is some adventure. Taking you through suspense, intrigue and love . But who can Luci trust after her own family turned their backs on her years ago?
Santa Fe Setup Katy Lee A nonstop action packed story from start to finish. You get through one episode and another one begins. Luci is involved without knowing why. Bard isn’t sure he can trust her to be innocent. As they run to get away from the criminals can they overcome their own doubts and have a happily ever after? Love the interaction between Luci and Bard as they work to capture the villain. Another great story of the Butler siblings.
