Shadow Winged #2.5

Shadow Witch

Rate this book
A dangerous job-ancient demons, werewolves, and magical artifacts are just extra.

Branwyn Brigid O'Connor likes to tell herself she is not a witch, she's just a Welsh/Irish woman with some magic to sling around. However after being flung into a supernatural war, and being shot multiple times, she might be ready to rethink that.

Now she's almost recovered physically, but emotionally she's still a wreck. Suffering from PTSD doesn't make it easier to choose what to do with her life, let alone how to choose between the two men she's attracted too: Jed, the steady if boring swan shifter, or Fred the ancient, immortal werewolf. It may not matter because she's being hunted by a Native Alaskan god, or is it a demon?

Regardless of who Bran chooses, she'd better get her act and her magic together soon. She's about to face the battle of her life and there's a good chance that if she survives, it will change her forever.

If you like unique Urban Fantasy based on Native Alaskan mythology along the lines of Patricia Briggs, CE Murphy, and Faith Hunter, you’ll love this new addition to the Shadow Winged series!

Jilleen Dolbeare is the author of the Shadow Winged Chronicles, an urban fantasy series about a shape-shifting bush pilot in Alaska.

She loves riding horses, warm ocean beaches, and long walks in the mountains, none of which she can do in the Arctic, so she writes.

Her activities are riding her four-wheeler on cold ocean beaches (often frozen or covered with ice), and long walks to and from work when it’s 40 below—in the dark. She does keep her stakes sharp for those vamps that show up during the 67 days of night.

Jilleen lives with her husband and two hungry cats in Barrow, Alaska where she also discovered her love and admiration of the Inupiaq people and their folklore.

I enjoyed reading Shadow Witch by Jilleen Dolbeare and recommend. In this book Bran is being hunted. Will she learn to control her magic in time to save herself or will it fail her? I have enjoyed all books I have read from this writer and look forward to reading more. This book, along with the rest of the series, is available on Amazon

A great peek at what's to come! This is a big one! From the bonus chapter of the next Shadow Winged book, Shadow War, it looks like you'll get a brief summary of what happens, so you wouldn't be completely lost without it, but game changing things happen! So I definitely recommend this novella!

I love how dismissive Bran is about her powers, she's really an amazingly strong witch, but don't you dare tell her that, she's adamant she has "a little magic" and that's it! Welllll, whether she accepts it or not, she's awesome! I have loved her character since I read the prequel and she's only grown on me even more the more I get to read, she's definitely my favourite character. Her obvious attraction to Fred comes full circle, for both of them. Full circle??? Pfft! As if I'd tell you... just know it's really exciting.

Bran is prone to have visions, but she can never remember them. Thanks to her bestie, Piper, who, by asking questions during a vision, is able to relay them back to Bran. But the latest vision rattles Bran to the core, she feels instinctively that it pertains to her and scares the socks right off her.  She's being stalked by an ancient killing machine and then the worst thing DOES happen! My word, I was yelling, no! Not Bran! The calvary comes to her rescue but a tad too late. If you want to know why, read it! In fact, no matter this particular tense moment, this novella is a definite must read, it will knock YOUR socks off! I'm scrounging around for mine....

Shadow Witch: An Alaskan Folklore Urban Fantasy (The Shadow Winged Chronicles)

Book 2.5 in the series and as a between books novella short & sweet, easy read that ties books two & three. It can probably be enjoyed as a stand alone and as I said it is short & easy to read.
As part of the Chronicles it ties the other books together well and is a really nice addition to the main story arc.
I would recommend to any fantasy fiction fans and to those drawn in to werewolf, vampire, fairies and other mythological creatures. The stories are gripping and drawn you in 'can't wait to find out what happens next'.
Thus I am looking forward to finding out what happens in book three & how the protagonists lives tie up by the end.

A solid romantic, hard-core action, urban fantasy fiction. The main character switches in book 2.5 from the shifter Piper, Raven's daughter, to her friend, Branwyn the witch.

Branwyn is in an awful love triangle tangle and wholly aware of her mortality around semi immortal creatures. The Weasel is loose and hunting, and Branwyn is her target.

A nice diversion in character from the main plot, well written and the characters continue to be deep. There are interesting diversions and plot traps hidden in this book and I totally recommend reading it between books 2 & 3 of the Shadow Winged trilogy.

This short story is about Bran, Piper’s witch friend.
She is being stalked by Weasel, another ancient who keeps showing up around Bran. The group decides that Bran needs security so Fred is her bodyguard when she’s on a date with Jed – awkward!
After an attack, she trades herself for the safety of Fred. Subject to an experiment by Weasel, Bran is rescued but there are still problems.
This book gives more background on some characters and an insight to Bran.
It is a quick, fairly fun read.

This is 2.5 in the shadow series

I started reading the third book in this series and realized.i had missed one. This should be numbered 2.5. There's also one that should be called .5. I haven't read it yet but from what I gathered from the other books ,.5 is where Piper and Bran save Baylee from the demon. I just wanted to clear that up.

As for the review, this author has created an Alaska that lives its mythology. It's a fantastic story and the characters are loveable and smart alecs. Read it , it definitely worth your time.

Well that was a surprise

I couldn’t believe it when the story came to an end. I devoured it from beginning to end. I have liked Bran from the very first book, she supports Piper wholeheartedly, she’s a fab friend. She is too hard on herself and has some odd ideas (Jed) I can’t wait to find out more.

Fun read

This whole series has been a great read. Characters are good and storyline continues to go to places that I did not see coming. If you like to read about the mythologies of other people you should like these stories.

A bit cheesy and overly dramatic, but fine. I’m a big fan of Bran’s, so a book from her perspective was welcome. I’m just always skeptical of sudden love stories. But that’s the genre, gotta go with it.

Witch or Were???

Since I enjoyed reading this series so much because of its uniqueness, I wanted to read about Bran as well. Much of it we already knew. The only part that was new is when she was placed in the artifact. Never the less, I was fascinated with this book as well.

Too much romance in this one for me, but if that's your cuppa bump it up a star.
Another connector story, this one leading up to Shadow War stars Piper's near-sister Branwyn the witch.

Bonus scenes

Perfect short filler from a different perspective that adds to the story before moving on to book 3 of the series.

Witches are bad Ass.

Bran considers herself the weak link in this war. A blade is sharpened by a stone. Great read in this series.
