I can't get enough of these characters, so I don't think my time was wasted, but honestly... there are a lot of fanfics that are better written than this. And as much as I love the extra bits of character interaction, there were a few that seemed to contradict the anime's canon (e.g. if that character had known that thing like the novel said, they would have done something different later on.) So it's not perfect, but... it's Geass.
This was by far one of the best series I've read so far. The books do tend to take some times to find somedays, but it's worth it. This author has done a wonderful job of going in more depth with the characters better than the manga and show. Also the drawing that are every few chapters or scenes (depending on how you look at it) help the read also get a better image of things.
