A Dire Proposal

Rate this book
The updated version was uploaded on the 22nd of July. Princess Heloise is the fifth in line to the Oscarian Throne. War is looming with their deadly neighbours, and this is one princess who will not sit idly and do nothing. The enemy of my enemy is my friend? Well, how about inviting that powerful Warlock, the Wraith King, that everyone fears, to a ball with the aim of convincing him to court her? This is not your typical Princess and beastie romance. Heloise is the one pursuing him, but will she win the wicked warlock over? Is love on the cards? Sex certainly is. Will Heloise become the badass Queen that will shock the Kingdom to the core? Who will she step over to sit on the black throne beside her husband? What will she have to sacrifice to achieve her goals? There is tense romance, drama, mystery, and gory violent scenes in this story. There are strong sexual themes and violence in this book.

Oh my goodness, this was such a fantastic read. So much mystery when it came to Atesh. Heloise transformation throughout the story was fun to read. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series, A Dire Betrothal.

What a delicious, dark romance. By Chapter 5, I couldn't put this down. Love the message of embracing all of ourselves, both dark and light, breeds happiness. Yes! I want a wraith of my own. ♡

The plot is fun, and interesting, the main character is a strong demale lead, who is smart and witty and although all of the other woman around her seem to expect her to simply be a pretty thing to look at (though she finds that hard as everything thinks and calls her plain) and have no play in the inner politics of her kingdom.
The male lead is a manic psychopath, who views humans no more than playthings. As a powerful warlock who is hundreds of years old was an intresting love interest, his POVs showing insight into hos inner workings, and although heartless at first, he slowly begins to vaule the female lead for her intelligence.

I like how both grow through the book to become true partners, though the dynamic can sometimes feel unbalanced.

The magic system could use some work, as well as maybe giving some background on the world with some more world building, which i think all could be fixed by an editor.

But overall an enjoyable read, highly recommended reading, if like books like the bridge kingdom or a court of of thorns and roses, then you'll love this. Got to say i do love a villainous male lead.

We don't often see princesses proposition monsters. It is definitely something we should see more often.

I love my monsters devious and unapologetic and that is exactly what I got with Atesh. Watching him fall for our determined Princess Heloise was such a treat. I enjoyed this so much and could probably read it over and over again.

Make no mistake, this is dark but the lovely Millie Lowelle gives us warning so as not to trigger anyone unnecessarily. And the warning is given at the beginning of the chapter so you can skip it and still enjoy this delicious story of a dark and devious love.

I loved this twist on a ‘damsel in distress’; finally a damsel taking matters into her own hands. The story is fun and quick paced, which makes for an easy, entertaining read. The characters were likable; and I loved growth between the two MC, going from indifferent to falling in love.
I would recommend this book for any one needing a low commitment, short story.
I always enjoy Millie’s books and highly recommend reading her other works!

a good darkish romance

The story was fun and different. The writing was a bit choppy in places but the “aggressive” scenes were so fun. The glee of the main characters was contagious. A fun read for sure and I appreciate the TW in the book.

A dark romance indeed

Loved loved loved this book. I did not want it to end. Loved the growth of the female main character. It is dark and has gore, almost a horror romance. Not as much smut as I would like but the plot made up for it. Looking forward to reading the next book.

Needs a solid editor or at least a proofreader.

Loved the concept and was so excited to read it. But, ufdah, I couldn't get past the first two pages.
The brazier is in the "bowls" of the mountain, but in the next paragraph it's referenced as being in the middle of the room.
Missing commas and others are randomly placed. Same with capitalization. One sentence uses the phrase "the Winter solstice" and the next says "the Winter's solstice". But there's no clear reason why one is possessive and the other isn't.
Illustrative language was overwought, or so awkwardly structured, that the sentences lost their meaning ("pale as a letter with fear" how do letters have fear?).
In a single page, the villainous hero "hummed curiously" and in the next paragraph "hummed, curious".
I had to stop, because it was clear it hadn't been proofread.

3.75, rounding up. Man, this book has exactly what so many romance book readers have been asking for - 1) unapologetic villainous MMC whose nature does not change because of the FMC and 2) a smart, cunning FMC who logically works through her situation and comes up with practical solutions.

The MMC is the “hurt her and you die” type and, seriously, he’ll kill you and there’s never any doubt. Atesh (which I do believe means “fire” in Turkish) is an immortal who is bloodthirsty and unhinged. The FMC is mentally strong and capable, and proposes to Atesh to protect her kingdom. She goes into it knowing exactly what she wants and is flexible in doing what she must to keep the plan rolling. She never gave off “I’m not like other girls”, “too stupid to live”, or “sassy and stubborn” vibes.

I absolutely devoured this book. Honestly, I’ve devoured every book by this author I’ve picked up. I love her characters. My only criticisms are:

-If you watch a lot of anime, you can see a lot of anime influence in her character designs. It’s kinda cringe sometimes lol

-I don’t think this author has an editor and, geeeeez, it’s so obvious. If you’re the type of reader who can’t get past bad grammar/spelling, then I highly recommend you do not read any of her stories. In this book, the wine “Merlot” was consistently spelled as “merlo” and she used the word “vial” instead of the adjective “vile” in a few instances. Also, commas indicating direct address weren’t used. This book would’ve gotten a solid 4 stars for me if it wasn’t for the grammar.

This book!!! Strong female lead? Check! aloof, weird powerful, and loveless man/ monster? Check! This story had me going crazy! It shows love to protect one’s family but also being hopeful for love. It’s dark, scary, and outright creepy at times, but it was needed to play out this amazing story.

I hope there is more to come in this series, because I would read them all!

Just Wow

I was drawn into this book. Her writing is so original and riveting. Heloise and Atesh are total opposites, and it is the start of something epic. The story just keeps unfolding. The little tease of the next book has me crossing my legs.
