Lost in a cloud of grief, Destiny Rivers abandons her dreams in pursuit of redemption. The music in her mind plays a solemn tune riddled with loss—that of her best friend and the only man she ever loved.
She blames herself.
And Royal Marine veteran Loris Winslow blames her, too. Her fatal error caused the death of his beloved sister.
When Destiny turns to Loris for protection, he refuses her plea for help. Too late, he realizes his catastrophic mistake. Now the tune in her mind has darkened, her fingers forced to play a new song. For him. The Collector. And Loris is the only one who can save her.
Will he regret the decisions of the past and right his future path? Or will Destiny’s song come to a brutal end?
Tracie Delaney writes billionaire romance where the men fall hard and the women make them work for it. Even though she has more than 35 novels published across many different series, Tracie still considers herself a reader first and foremost and loves fangirling over her favorite authors.
At night she likes to curl up on the sofa with her two furbabies, Murphy & Cooper, and binge-watch shows on Netflix. There may be wine involved.
picked this one up after watching a tiktok, and listen, the story was great, and the development too, but this man blatantly refused to help his childhood friend when she told him she was scared of someone hurting her, just because he blamed her for something she couldn’t have prevented, so like… probably go to therapy to cope with your problems instead of putting the blame on someone else
I was all for giving it more stars until it got to 61% and then I just gave up. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot, the angst, the anger, the butterflies…but honestly Destiny (the FMC) was just too ‘hopeful’ for me - like I get that you love this dude, but he has been awful to you for over 5 years, rejected you multiple times, allowed you to get kidnapped, and you still try to seduce him. I mean…🫣 have some dignity and make him do the crawling at least.
DNF I'm not certain how this book has so many good reviews. I must have read an entirely different book. I could not stand either of the leads. This girl is hung up on a man who completely ignored her for years and then refused to help her. This man who refused to even acknowledge her for years is going to refer to her as "his woman" when he rescues her out of guilt. She's looking to this man for comfort even when she really doesn't have any sort of relationship with this man. This book angered me to no end and I want to fight myself for listening to booktok and attempting to read this.
This was an interesting read, and was written quite well too. I liked the story, the development, and the angst. However, I just can't seem to get past the fact that this man blamed her for over five years for something she had no control over.. I mean, I understand that in situations like these, it's difficult to be rational and I can't blame him for his reaction, but the least he could've done was get therapy, and work on his issues— which he had a lot of.
He's a part of an organization that protects people, I think it said a lot about his mental state when he refused to protect a woman (who is said to be as famous as Beyoncé) due to personal bias. Whatever the reason behind it was, something about him not taking her seriously in the first place ticked me off.
I also just couldn't understand the way Destiny forgave him instantly as if he hadn't shunned her after her best friend's death and refused to let her attend the funeral of someone she considered a father. I just don't understand how she got over it in a matter of days, and not only that, but attempted to seduce him instead of the other way around? This isn't even considering the fact that he refused to offer her protection because he felt that she was responsible for his sisters death.
Sure, he seemed remorseful after everything that happened to her and accepted his faults, but it seemed as though most of that was just his internal dialogue and didn't seem to be communicated to her very well. I think that's another one of my issues— I didn't really like the lack of communication. Half the time he sounded standoffish even though internally, he seemed like a good guy. I guess that's subjective though.
Overall, I think this was an enjoyable read if those things don't bother you too much. I think I just couldn't get past the aforementioned so I guess this just wasn't my cup of tea. Though if you're looking for a book filled with humor, angst, drama, and suspense— this is the one for you :)
Destiny the FMC was a very frustrating character & quite shallow. The romance between the characters were very confusing since there wasn’t any substance to it at all, like what was it about her or him that attracted the other person, apart from physical appearance. 5 years they’ve never corresponded then BAM he/she’s still the love of my life 👀 really?!🙄
I also didn’t like that whole surprise thing she dropped on him🥴 I mean that topic didn’t make sense, felt very surface level & rushed. I didn’t feel any chemistry existed between the MCs, especially outside the bedroom.
I don’t mind reading for the vibes sometimes but I need at least more of a logical plot to push through the nonsense that these characters are putting out, this book just wasn’t for me.
They say "save the best till last" and boy it was definitely the best book out of this amazing series about the owner of The Intrepid Bodyguards Loris and his sisters best friend Destiny.
Loris has a big chip on his shoulder regarding Destiny as he blames Destiny for the murder of his sister as she was supposed to be with her the night that it happened and she left her to go on a date.
When Destiny turns up to a function Loris is attending and asks for his help, she tells him that she has a stalker but he turns her down with devastating consequences. This is a race against time to find a guy "The Collector" who has covered his tracks for the last two years collecting the perfect orchestra for himself.
Loved this race against time story and how these two characters act around each other, and to get to there hea was no mean feat. Can't wait to see what this author has install for us next as loving her story telling.
This was a good book, that worked with a havy topic to tell a beautiful second Chance romance story. I wished the story wasnt so rushed in some points but i guess than we would have to lable this book as dark romance as well. The characters seem very shallow to me and the relationships the characters have are not really strong (except to the dead sister who is well dead) I really liked the description of the consequenzes though. Overall good book.
Enjoyed this book! The suspense and spice were equally great and I loved that we got a page or two in between some chapters of the POV by the villain. It reminded me of the movie kiss the girls. I completely jumped ahead and didn’t read the other books before this one but I look forward to reading more by this author.

Tracie Delaney has certainly brought her darker side out to play in this suspenseful romance where love and hate walk a very fine line. I loved it!
We've had tantalising glimpses of Loris Winslow, Boss of the Intrepid Bodyguards (and an Earl no less) throughout this series. He was a dangerous, enigmatic, brooding, protective, dominant male but despite his seemingly closed off emotions he held so much pain, guilt, grief and anger inside. We had seen a softer side in the previous book and I couldn't wait to meet the woman who would bring this alpha man to his knees. Destiny certainly didn't disappoint. She was beautiful inside and out but had also grieved for so many years over the loss of her best friend (Loris's sister) as well as the only man she'd ever loved. She had such inner strength, especially after the horrific trauma she went through.
I wanted to shake Loris for how he behaved at the beginning, but I was glued to the pages and loved how he found redemption and finally went all in. This is the man you want on your side when you're in serious trouble!
It was a rollercoaster of emotion and suspense with a seriously deranged psychopath, The Collector in the mix. The darker elements were chilling and had me on the edge of my seat at times, but was well balanced with humour, angst, drama and spice (sheesh, I need some of what Loris has please 🔥)
I'm sad to see the end (for now anyway) of this captivating series and the Intrepid Bodyguards, they all took a little piece of my heart. Looking forward now to what comes next from this fabulous author.
Storyline was interesting. I like the plot. But the main characters annoy me so much. The mmc who is a grown adult and a royal marine, puts a blame on the fmc over his sister’s death that wasn’t even her fault. The fmc gives me the ick I mean who the heck feels aroused just after she got rescued from a madman and after witnessing brutal punishments, the first thing she does is feeling all hot and bothered by the mmc? 🫠🫠🫠

Started and devoured Guard of Destiny in one day! And I loved it!! From start to finish, I was so invested in this story.
I loved the suspense and I hated and I mean HATED The Collector. Like I know I was supposed to but I was like I really HATE you dude. My frustration levels and the part of my brain that makes me want to throw something at him, was definitely initiated in this book. I mean I think I’d have enjoyed it just as much without the romance because the story was just that investing. The heat though fired it up to like 1000000. That kiss that Loris and Destiny have when they go for that bike ride was like the best erotic moment I’ve experienced in a long time and I wasn’t Destiny. Can you imagine being her?
I’d sell my left tít for a man like Loris! He’s dark, brooding, masculine, filthy and growly! Everything I know I deserve!
From the first couple of chapters, I thought I would love this book. And I did like the crime and stalking thing. What took me out of the story was...
Spoilers...
The pregnancy. And her returning to her house to "think." I just hate that emotions run so high that she didn't even think about her freaking protection. I mean I kinda get that people can't be objective all the time. But when your life is on the line (even though it's been months of silence from the perpetrator), it just doesn't seem very smart to take youself away from a safe place.
And the pregnancy. I love pregnancies in books. I even get in some way why she kinda forget about the birth control. But for some reason, I can't get over her assuming her birth control is fine. I keep telling myself that she'd gone through so much and that's not in the forefront of her worries because of the trauma. But once they started their relationship and weren't using protection because she assured him that she's covered... I... Don't even know how to express it.
This is just me though, maybe I'm just in a mood right now because usually the pregnancy stuff is fine with me. The safety thing has always been a pet peeve of mine in books, though. Anyway, props to the author because despite the things I said, I still did like it. And I know I'd be checking out other books of the author.
I read this one as a standalone, not a series, because I wanted Loris's story. But I will definitely read the rest of them. This book was excellent. When reading Sebastian's book, I was first introduced to Loris in the ROGUES series. When I saw a TikTok from the author and recognized Loris, I knew I had to start here.
The book tells the story of Loris and Destiny, childhood friends. After Loris's sister, Sophia, died, he couldn't see her anymore and blamed her for it. Five years later, she comes to ask for help because she thinks someone is stalking her, but he rejects her, only to later find out she was kidnapped and he could have helped. He feels guilty and remorseful, so he decides to do everything he can to get her back.
The author's narration of this book was so different that I loved it, especially the kidnapper POV chapters, which added so much to the story. It was a complete story with an exciting plot, but the way the characters were involved was lovely. Destiny as a character was strong, and how she handled most of the stuff gave a lot. Loris was something else. Behind that strong persona, he is thoughtful, loving, and a great leading man with few words and many actions to prove his point and sentiments for her.
This book was a wild ride! I love the spunkiness and strength of the FMC, Destiny. I love the grumpy yet protectiveness of the MMC, Loris. The collector character was dark and unhinged - his part of the story will have you on the edge of your seat, unable to put down the book.
Even after Destiny lost her best friend to a horrific crime, she managed to pull herself together to become one of the best pianist for classical music. However, her success along with her kind heart puts her in the crosshairs of the collector who gets exactly what he wants - and he wants Destiny.
I won’t go into further detail because I don’t want to add any spoilers. I highly suggest you read the book. 😊
Destiny may have lost a best friend, but Loris lost his sister. He ends up pouring all of what’s left of himself into forming his security company. He makes a vow that he will never get married or have children. Years later and he’s just a shell of the man he used to be.
After Destiny comes to him begging for protection and coldly turning her down - he soon regrets that choice.
The story is gripping; I loved the characters’ growth, their determination, their strength. The characters do get a HEA - they deserve it after everything they go through.
TITLE: Guard of Destiny GENRE: Contemporary Romance AUTHOR: Tracie Delaney TROPE: Bodyguard Romance TYPE: Series (The Intrepid Bodyguard Series Book 5) POV: Third Person MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
⚠️ Check trigger warnings; this dark content is for +18 readers
Continuing in the Intrepid Bodyguard Series, we finally see more of Loris, the man in charge of Intrepid. Destiny comes to Loris, her former childhood crush, for help when she feels like someone has been stalking her. Destiny is the former best friend of Loris’s younger sister, who passed away tragically. Loris still holds Destiny to blame for his sister’s death, so he brushes her off and turns her away. Unprotected Destiny finds herself in peril when “The Collector” kidnaps her, and only then does Loris regret his decisions as he works to try and rescue her.
Guard of Destiny is full of plot twists, spice, and angst. It is a quick standalone read in the Intrepid Bodyguard Series. I would have liked to see more grovelling from Loris when he messed up, but overall, I liked the book. I am giving it a rating of 4 / 5 Stars.
It has been what feels like an age that we have been waiting for Loris’s story but it was well worth the wait. Its no secret that Destiny is on the top of the list of people that Loris despises but it didn’t make any sense why until you start to read his story and then your heart goes out to him and starts to soften towards her. He never got over the murder of his sister and he fully blames Destiny. Things change when she goes to Loris for help and he refuses and she finds herself kidnapped. Loris is beside himself when he finds out and he pulls in every single favour he can think of to try and find her and along with that he also admits to himself that she means more to him that he likes to admit. The suspense, angsts, emotion, brotherhood and realisation envelopes you as you are reading and you find yourself a cheerleader on the sidelines shouting at them to get their acts together. I’m totally #teamloris I have been since the first book. I loved this book and this whole series.
Tracie Delaney is my favourite go-to author and what a phenomenal series the Intrepid Bodyguard is. Every single book so far has been a real rollercoaster. Elusive Loris has been one of my favourite characters, woven into the background of everyone else's stories, so I was unbelievably excited when I found out he was getting his OWN book. Thank you Tracie for bringing Loris into the spotlight and giving him his moment to shine. And what a moment it is. From the start of this book, Loris does not stop shining, not for one second. Well, maybe for one at the start of the book when he is his usual grumpy self. Watching Loris step out from the shadows and being thrust in the spotlight was simply breath-taking. The way he develops as this story unfolds is magnificent - and what a story it is! Definitely not for the fainthearted. Tracie has really surpassed herself this time.
Thank God, I even gave it a one star. This book straight up sucked. That's what I get for getting recommendations off of TikTok again. It just never ends well. The protagonist was so weak. She would cry if she stepped on an ant. I'm not being dramatic its true. The story starts with a problem. They don't give us a backstory. You just understand on your own while reading. Also, what the hell is wrong with the male lead, he treats her very bad but then doesn't even grovel that much and she takes him back even with knowing that he doesn't forgive her. She has no morals whatsoever. The book was kind of peculiar I could say. I'm sad to say that I wasted a whole day just to finish this book and I don't regret it, but I learned my lesson. Don't recommend this book at all. Not because I don't like it, but because it's weird in so many ways that I cannot explain.<3
I picked up this book after seeing some quotes on Instagram. I had an idea of the ending, but I was not sure of what the book was truly about. I was completely shocked once I was a few chapters in, and when I realized there was kidnapping involved. This book is a sister's best friend romance, where the sister is actually murdered. The book starts off years after the murder. The two main characters are not in contact. He is full of this rage and bitterness over his sister's death that it blinds him to find happiness. She is a musician who worked hard for her dream after her friend died. The characters are brought together when she feels that she's in trouble, but he denies her. Seeing them both work for their issues was so hard. They they had so much to deal with, especially after her kidnapping. I flew through this book and read it in one sitting

Such a fantastic book! Full of action, emotion, danger and drama. I didn't like how Destiny was treated at the start but once the story kicked in, everything made sense. This was about Loris Winslow who runs Intrepid Security a bodyguard service and Destiny, his Sisters best friend who gets in trouble. So much happens between these two that you just have to jump in and grab hold while you take a ride. It's a brilliant ride though. Destiny is made of tough stuff as is Loris but both have baggage and need to work through some issues before they can even live with each other's company. Guilt, danger and the past tends to make strange bedfellows, but these two were cut from the same cloth. This was an absolutely brilliant story and I can't wait for more. So good!
Former surrogate siblings and both deeply and secretly in love with each other, they were driven apart by the death of his sister/her best friend.
When Destiny is in danger, she tries to get help from Loris but only when the worst happens, he steps up and has a moment of honesty with himself.
The couple was rightfully sweet and prickly, the villain was evil. I was between disbelieve and morbid fascination about the way one person could keep 16 people in almost frozen fear.
Good thing the age gap of 7 years was between the main characters. Because Loris was in his ways to be an adult far behind Destiny. It irked me that he couldn't work through issues like a grown up royal. But with no family left, it made sense too.
Very interesting read and lots of side characters to hope for more!
The story overall was good. I appreciated the mystery of the villain and his insane sanity. There were a few editing errors but nothing too bad.
My disappointment was with the main characters themselves. The MMC had been horrible to the FMC for MANY years. Even when she begs him for help. He is barely remorseful for his actions with her and she’s there to gobble up whatever scraps he gives. He puts her needlessly through emotional distress without apology or expressed his regret. Just disappointing and a bit unbelievable that such a strong FMC in all other areas is an absolute pushover when it comes to the MMC.
I enjoyed that this story seemed to propel us right into the action. It was definitely entertaining to read about our FMC’s kidnapping and getting small glimpses into “The Collectors” mind. Made me feel like I was inside an episode of criminal minds lol I liked the angsty and raw emotions that our MMC, Loris, it made him more real. I wish Destiny would’ve made Lori’s work a little harder for her heart but I can understand why she didn’t. She was done wasting time and wanted to make sure he knew that they could work in the long run. I love that they helped each other grow from their traumas and were very supportive. It was a heartfelt and touching story!!
This time The Boss is the main character. Still broken by the murder of his beloved sister, five years previous so when her best friend Destiny arrives at a party pleading for help he dismisses her. He blames her for Sophia's death despite having strong feelings for her. Classic pianist Destiny finds herself in unfamiliar room and she discovers that she has been kidnapped along with other classically trained female musicians. Loris becomes aware of the situation and begins to try to locate Destiny and her capturer. The former Royal Marines are on another mission.
This is my first time reading this author, and I couldn't be more impressed! I was engrossed and entertained, and it satisfied my cravings for some romantic suspense. But I most definitely enjoyed the romance; Loris is aggravating and swoony at the same time, and Destiny is such a strong heroine, and she wasn't afraid to tell him off a time or two. It was impossible not to root for them.
Overall, this was such a great read, and I enjoyed this book so much! I would recommend this book to anyone out there who enjoys romantic suspense.
Gahhhh how about that Collector, eh? What a fantastic premise for a book - so unique and original, and it held my attention from cover to cover. I loved how strong and unwavering Destiny was in this book, like a water lily she bloomed in the murky waters - and didn't let Loris away with anything. Loris being pulled apart from all sides by grief is something a lot of us can relate to, so it hit hard in the feels. Great book!
We have waited a long time for Loris Winslow to appear in a book and he certainly doesn’t disappoint. His whole body demeanor since his sister’s death is, Don’t touch me just leave me alone. His brush with his sister’s friend Destiny is explosive to say the least. Until she is kidnapped then all hell breaks loose and he leaves no stone unturned to find her. This book had my guts in a turmoil wondering which way it would go. A fantastic book if you love thrills and suspense.
