For both in-class and online courses, Essentials of Biological Anthropology remains the market’s #1 book because it helps students understand how the discipline is relevant to their lives and future careers. Accessible explanations, thoroughly up-to-date research, active learning resources that now include 3D models of fossils and casts, and a focus on relevance and inclusivity ensure students understand the core concepts and apply anthropology to their own lives. Please note that this version of the ebook does not include access to any media or print supplements that are sold packaged with the printed book.
I was not expecting to learn the foundations and beginnings of Biological Anthropology. This book detailed out who had the passion and also how to drive this career forward in a big hypothesis that tested boundaries. This textbook was required for my college class and I am quite disappointed that my professor didn't use much of it. The book is easy to read with beautiful photos and an understanding for the field. I give this book 5 stars and it's one that I would recommend.
Up-to-date info on topics such as assimilation model and early homo development and diversity. The full-art representations in each chapter are fantastic, as well.
My 3-star gripe with this book (and all Norton biology texts I’ve read thus far) is that they give ~200 pages of biology introduction no matter the subject. Obviously I want folks without a background in biology to have an accessible introduction, but this seems much more likely to be a money grab.
Yes, this reads exactly like a textbook, which it is, but I am also the type of person that will read a textbook for fun. 🤓 That having been said, it is a very digestible book with a lot of visual aids that were actually quite helpful.
