Generally very good. I picked up this workbook because I've continued to struggle with reading katakana after a year into studying Japanese, so I wanted to put some work into remedying that before my next class started. Speaking and understanding spoken Japanese has been my primary goal, so learning to write wasn't a high priority for me, but I have to admit that learning to write definitely helps enhance character recognition. Beyond the rote copying of the characters, the practice exercises were a great combo of recognizing and then using the characters. I'm still not quite at full fluency in recognition but I can tell I have significantly progressed over the past couple weeks.
However, I knocked off one star because this workbook needed another pass through with a copyeditor. Noticed several errors in the answer key (I swear this isn't just me getting something wrong.. but like an answer reprinted twice, that kind of thing), the stray new vocabulary left off the end-of-lesson vocab summary, and, in one exercise, light grey boxes were layered under the light grey tracing text - they may have been a shade different, but upon printing they were virtually indistinguishable.
As the name of the book says, it makes understanding hiragana and katakana made easy.. This book not only contains sheets to learn kana, but also has nice 'good to know things', the most used vocab for beginners and helps you also to increase your listening skills. I am not a beginner, but I found this book really helpfull. I still have problems with katakana ( most of the times) and this books ecourages you to get better:)
Fantastic book which I bough for my uni module! Really helped with my hiragana, especially, as well as the katakana; however, Katakana still needs a lot of work lol. Brilliantly format with the exercises, key words, large text and multiple boxes to perfect the character writing.
