From debut author, Kate Randall, book one in The Ones series...
An aspiring politician and a reporter looking to make a name for herself. Sparks fly, but secrets threaten to destroy them.
Kasey Interviewing Senate hopeful Donovan Hayes is supposed to be my ticket to the byline. I assume he’s nothing more than a puff piece that looks good in a three-piece suit. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
His touch ignites a passion in me I didn’t know existed. But will being with him destroy my reputation and possibly end my career?
Donovan Staying away from family embarrassment and winning this election are my main goals. It’s all going according to plan until I meet Kasey. I can’t help but picture her long legs wrapped around me with her taste on my lips. The fire between us is undeniable. And dangerous.
A faceless enemy threatens my family. Kasey is the next target. With a stalker closing in time is running out.
Kate is a lover of all things books. It doesn’t matter what genre, as long as there’s a HEA, she’s in. She started reading romance in high school and would hide novels in textbooks to read during class. Becoming an author was always a dream she had and finally decided to put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) and write what she loves. She grew up in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan then became a West Coast girl where she lives with her amazing husband and hilarious son. She would love to hear from readers so check out all her socials and sign up for her newsletter so she can keep you up to date on her books and whatever other ramblings come to mind.
I received this arc from NetGalley and I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much! I can’t stress enough how much I’m in love with Donovan. This book had the perfect balance of everything you could ask for in a book. It was extremely steamy and it made me laugh my ass off multiple times!
I have many genres that I like to traverse through but I have never read a steamy romance novel. Yes, at 41 I finally lifted the cover of my first. I was hooked! The characters were easy to relate with and follow. The storyline kept me pushing for “oh just one more chapter” til it was 1am and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. And then I finished it in bed with coffee the next morning. I am very impressed with this debut author and CANNOT wait to continue with these characters. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them, getting to experience their passionate romance and taste their excitement. This book has humor, intrigue, mystery, danger, erotica and characters you’ll want to revisit again. Bravo, Ms. Randall! Really looking forward to what you delight us with next!!!!
So good! It’s sexy and spicy with a good plot! Kasey and Donovan are relatable enough that you feel for them and what they go through! Definitely worth reading!
Kasey is a reporter sent to interview an up-and-coming politician, Donovan. After scoring a one-on-one interview, they quickly become inseparable. I would say about the first half of the book is pure spice, but then the real plot comes into play.
Both Kasey and Donovan's siblings get them tied up in a scary situation. Donovan's brother is being stalked and Kasey's sister is investigating an upper class family with some dirty laundry. Their two stories overlap and Kasey realizes her sister has gone missing. Is she safe or is she next to disappear?
I really enjoyed this story. I love a good spicy scene and there was plenty of them! There's mystery, possible betrayal, a high-end sex club, and ultimately, a HEA.
TW: stalking, kidnapping, drugging.
Thank you to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, and Kate Randall for the ARC.
Thank you NetGalley, and the publisher for sending me this arc to review.
I really loved Kasey and Donovan’s characters. They were so similar and really changed each other for the better (in my opinion). The spice in this book was just perfect for the storyline. I love a little action with my spice, so this book was just my type! The secondary characters were just as great as the main characters. Overall, this book was great and I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a sweet, and spicy book with a happily ever after. This was Kate Randall’s debut novel, and I definitely can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!
This was a good debut. For me personally I struggled to connect with both characters and plot for about 65%. I don't necessarily think it's because the author is new, even though the more books she produces the more that will definitely improve. For me it was somewhat my own fault, I wanted to support a new author even though she does describe her book as an erotic read. I picked it up for the suspense and that didn't come towards the end. I really enjoyed that part and felt myself starting to connect more. Definitely an author to keep an eye on.
Loved it. It had the right amount of smutty .. love … understanding.. and mystery.. which made it for a fairly easy and quick read .. the ending set up for more books to come which is great .. all in all a good book .. maybe I could have done with out the bad language but I guess I’m just one in a million that does not like bad words. Lol
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I thought it was generally really well written and I was impressed with the action-packed story line.
However, I thought the characters lacked some depth and I did find some of the dialogue a bit too cringe-worthy.
Also, everything happened a little too quickly, I feel as though they barely got to know each other before they were confessing their love. For me, it just lacked that emotional connection I have with other characters. That being said this was a great debut novel and there were parts that I really loved.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to Kate’s other books. An excellent debut novel.
I was one of the lucky people to get an ARC of this book. I liked the book and the relationship between Kasey and Donovon. It was a quick read and had a cute story line. This book isn't a favorite, but I still enjoyed reading it.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. I thought it was a great debut novel. I do wish the suspense aspect was carried throughout the book as that was my primary reason for reading but what we did get was intriguing and quickly pushed the story along. I expect great things from this author!
The soulmates trope is forever a good one. Kasey and Donovan clicked instantly, and it meant steamy and hot scenes for them as a result. I do think that they were a bit too intense at first, but as they grew on the page, it worked.
This story gets suspenseful about 50% in. I wish that tension/ suspense had started sooner, but the groundwork had to be laid. I'm excited to see the next in the series and know that as Randall grows as an author, these things will be hashed out and improved with each work.
One thing to note with first time authors, is that they're learning and need constructive feedback to improve.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.
So the premise of this book was really good and I feel like if it was written just a little bit better it would have been so much better.
Donovan is the son of a well-liked retired congressman and has decided he is going to follow in his fathers footsteps and run for Senator.
Kasey is a reporter and is assigned to interview and write about Donovan.
They hit it off at the interview and they’re both thinking about and attracted to each other. They both have younger siblings they can’t stop policing. Their siblings get them into some trouble at the end too.
Donovan’s younger brother is always getting into trouble and he’s always trying to keep it out of the press so their family name/image isn’t tarnished. Kasey’s younger sister is just a little reckless and Kasey is always acting like a mom to her.
It would have been cute if their siblings fell in love too considering the ending but who knows, maybe that will come in future books.
It was a little bit too insta-love for me. While insta-love can be great, it has to be done right. This was just a little too much. And the 🌶 scenes were pretty cringe sometimes. If these two things were rectified though I think it could have been a great book.
I will say though I thought the ending was going to be predictable but I honestly didn’t expect what happened. It was related to what I was thinking but completely different.
A cute insta-love romance that tugs at the heartstrings while still being funny and relatable. Plus, there’s plenty of spice to go around in this book! What happens when the responsible ones finally let loose and give in to their wants and desires? That’s exactly what Kasey and Donovan are about to find out.
I can already tell she’s the sort of woman a man would gladly sell his soul to the devil for to have in his bed. Just a look and a few words and I’m already considering being that man.
Kasey is the reporter charged with writing a fluff piece on the newest senatorial candidate. But when she finally gets a look at him and accidentally makes a fool of herself, she realizes he might be more than what she expected.
Maybe she just thinks I’m a nice guy who would have better sense than to hit on a reporter. Obviously, I’m not.
Donovan - the eldest, authoritative, charming, and completely smitten with the woman interviewing him. She brings out a side of him he thought he didn’t have. The side that wants to have fun with her in all the right ways.
The spice was great and the story itself took a turn I definitely wasn’t expecting! I’m generally pretty good at figuring out what the plot twist is early on and I did NOT see that one coming!. However, it felt like it took a while to get there. It got a little repetitive in parts and there were quite a few typos towards the end, but otherwise it was entertaining and fun to read!
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
The good one by Kate Randall. The ones book 1. I can’t help but picture her long legs wrapped around me with her taste on my lips. The fire between us is undeniable. And dangerous. A faceless enemy threatens my family. Kasey is the next target. With a stalker closing in time is running out. Omg. Absolutely brilliant read. I loved the story. Kasey and Donovan were great together. Characters were well written. I was shocked with who it was. Twisty. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.
3.5 This is the first book I read from this author and I quite enjoy it. Kasey’s career as a journalist is supposed to be exiting, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Now she has to interview Senate hopeful Donovan Hayes. She assumes he’s nothing more than a puff piece that looks good in a three-piece suit. She couldn’t have been more wrong. His touch ignites a passion she didn’t know existed. The fire between them is undeniable. And dangerous. This is an ultra-hot romance with sweet moments and some action in the final chapters. I loved their relationship. It’s super steamy. In order to enjoy this book, you have to love insta-love and insta-lust. For me it was a bit too much sometimes. I wished for a bit more storyline or some obstacles. But the sex! SIGH…! I have to say, these two –and this author- know what they are doing! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
An easy, fun, sexy read! Exactly what a romance book should be. Made me want to keep on reading. I was rooting for Kasey and Donovan and loved the strong initial attraction between these two. Great first book by this author. Can’t wait to see this author’s future books. Keep them coming!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (Once the spice starts, it keeps getting better and better)
I read Kate Randall's series "out of order" and let me tell you each book I read fills in another piece of the puzzle in my head 😂. While I'm not lost reading, sometimes I was sitting there asking myself, "how do all these people know each other?"
Kate Randall in typical fashion knows how to write characters and side characters that just draw you into the story. Kasey and Abigail's friendship was amazing. They had my laughing out loud numerous times.
I normally don't like insta love, but the chemistry between Kasey and Donovan was through the roof. And I was praying nothing came between these two's happily ever after.
The build up to their first date had me giggling like a school girl 🤧. Gosh I loved it! The sexting while in a meeting CHILD yessss!! 🥵🥵🥵.
This book is giving 50 Shades vides, but in a good way, with slightly better chemistry and build up to the kinkier side of things. Plus the stalker ex girlfriend situation.
Kasey is very relatable in having to be "the good one" but wanted to let loose at times. And I'm glad Donovan allowed her to explore that side of her. And vice versa. The passion between these two were off the charts.
The sex club scene...good God...thank you Kate Randall!
I thought I knew were was sending the pictures to Donovan, and I'm certainly glad I was wrong. Because it made for a great plot twist. However I took half a star off because I knew what was going to be the cause of the 3rd act conflict. Even still I was on the edge of my seat. So rounding up to 5 stars. But Kasey, while her reaction was justified (I guess), still pissed me off, with her actions after the incident.
Jackson being Kacey and Donovan's biggest cheerleader was very sweet. And I look forward to reading his book.
Overall this book was a great blend of spice, passion, humor and suspense.
Thank you Netgalley and Victory Editing for allowing me to read and review this title! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I had received an email recommending this book and I thought "why not?" so I was happy with the approval and started on it right away.
Boy was I wrong... I stopped at 40% and I don't think I'll ever go back to finish the book.
Kasey is a reporter at the Philadelphia Sun and is given the job to set up an one-on-one interview with upcoming politician Donovan Hayes. Donovan is instantly turned on by Kasey when he first sees her and asks her out on a date the following weekend.
Donovan is a creep, in my personal opinion. Some people, like Kasey, might be able to ignore his stalker tendencies and his wince-inducing sexy talk, but I'm not one of those people. Kasey is totally fine when she leaves the interview to find texts from Donovan (she didn't give him her phone number - he got it from his PR rep), receives a bouquet of flowers at her job, and starts sexting with him about hours or a day later. All of this, right after her interview with him. I mean, my husband and I moved pretty quick in our relationship but sheesh this was fast.
My eyes hurt from the amount of eye-rolling I did from every one-liner Donovan said, to his constant use of pet names, and what he thinks is sexy talk but is honestly cringe. I think I even physically winced during their first sex scene.
Don't get me wrong though. I love books with sexy scenes in them but this was too painful for me to read. The writing could have been better, the characters have no development and felt super generic/bland. If you're in the mood for a book with just smut, I'd recommend something else.
This book follows a Senatorial candidate, Donovan, and journalist, Kasey. Kasey is not thrilled about being assigned to do a piece on Donovan, because she doesn't want to do fluff pieces. But then, she meets him and realizes he is quite a hot gentleman that she's instantly attracted too. There's fairly instant chemistry between them and things get steamy and spicy quick!! I found this book to be a quick and easy read, and I definitely recommend this book!
Pretty good book.... Some humor, drama and a whole lot of hot scenes.... A reporter and a man running for state senator...sparks fly with these two.... Totally would read it again..
The Good One by Kate Randall is a very good debut novel and a great start to this new series.
This book follows Kasey, a reporter who is sent to interview up-and-coming politician Donavan Hayes and...the story goes from there.
As always, I'm not going to discuss the plot, just be aware that there is kidnapping, stalking and drugging involved.
It has smut, mystery, love and it's a very quick and easy read. I'm a mood reader and while I was reading this I was in a fantasy mood, but The Good One never got boring or tiresome it had my full attention from the beginning.
The ending of the book sets up the next ones and I am really looking forward to reading more by Kate Randall.
Thank to The Next Step PR and Kate Randall for providing me with an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
I simply couldn’t get into this book. I tried, but there was just too much about it that didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t understand why the two main characters would start a relationship when both were working toward advancing their careers and were leery of scandals. Finding out a reporter was romantically involved with a subject isn’t a good look for either party. I also couldn’t figure out why Donovan was responsible for cleaning up after his brother and keeping his reputation clear. Why would his brother’s actions reflect on him? And why wouldn’t their parents be the ones to deal with it? And if Donovan was so worried about a squeaky clean image then why did he willingly go to a sex club and hang out with his brother? And on and on. Yeah, there were just too many things I couldn’t get past. Sorry, but this one just wasn’t for me.
The baseline of this book was good. They could’ve done so much with the politician trying to become something more/bigger, and the drama that comes from dating a reporter.
But only if you build a solid enough background for this relationship to develop. This story was literally hard on the sexual attraction they had for each other. It was cringe-worthy how “thirsty” they were for one another, and how incapable they were of having a deep conversation that didn’t end in innuendos or winks.
I’m not sure I’ve cared less about two characters. There was no relationship buy in just insta attraction. The resolution was mediocre at best. I liked this authors MC series, but I wish I hadn’t tried this partner series.
Poor writing and grammar. Lacks creativity. It seems the author focuses on the sex scenes entirely and puts no effort into the rest of it. Wouldn’t waste my time reading another book of hers.
Dump this book in the garbage... It was the worst.. Kasey should have been whacked and whipped for being such a disgusting human being... Rot in hell, ungrateful bitch..
