This is a Dark Hate to Love Mafia Romance, and this is the second book in the Gruca Crime Family series. I have read the first book in this series before picking up this book. This type of book is not for everyone, and there are things in it that could upset a reader. After reading the first book in this series I felt that Lorenzo would be one of my favorite characters in this series, and he is. I love a quiet loner character that everyone thinks is a super bad boy, but really is super caring and loving just shows it in different ways. I think that sums up Lorenzo. I love how much Lorenzo loves animals and nature. Amelia (Kitty) is just what he needs. I love how this story unfolds and their romance. I think this is a very well written story that will pull you in, and you can really feel the connection grow between the two main characters. I really enjoyed reading this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

So…..i decided to try Nicole Cypher again,and since His Pet was free on Apple Books,that’s where i started.
What i got was an entertaining read,with what sounds like an autistic lead called Lorenzo,and an animal lover called Amelia.
She thought he was abusing his animals,and managed to get them taken away.
That angered him,because his animals were his friends,and he took very good care of them.
So,he decided she was going to have to take their place until he got them back,and teach her a lesson at the same time.
For a long time it was her being afraid for her life,as well as being afraid of getting abused,or worse…being raped.
When none of those things happened,she started to take the trouble to see the man behind the mask….and liked what she found.
He kept asking her how she felt,and liked the fact that she wasn’t afraid to show him her fear.
You guessed it,they started to catch feelings,in spite of the situation.
But knowing his brother Messimo,who was essentially his boss,wanted her out of the way,he knew he had to let her go before it was too late.
And then the enemy found her……

An entertaining story,even if it lacked the heat i need.

A little too Stockholm Syndrome for me. Lorenzo is a confusing protagonist: he doesn’t seem to know what he wants or what he wants with Amelia. When he starts desiring her as more than his pet, I found the plot to be a little too ridiculous. I know women sometimes fall for their captors, but just seems a little too unrealistic after Lorenzo is so terrible to Amelia. Perhaps if he had shown her mercy after their hiatus in the stairwell? Making her perform in front of guests was over the top. I will admit the end is exciting and worth the discomfort it takes to get there. It’s hard not to adore Nemma and the Gruco clan. Overall, I love the crime family troupe and will read the next book in the series, but this one just wasn’t for me.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Gruco boys are crazy but I love it. I don't think I've ever read a book with pet play- but I liked it! Lorenzo is a little unhinged but Amelia is his perfect counterpart. I loved the spice, the little touches between them- all of it, it was exciting to read!

I'm ready and waiting for the next book in the series. I definitely recommend it.

Amelia is an animal activist and when she gets Lorenzo’s Ring of Fire show and his animals taken from him, he is out for revenge. He happens to be a capo in an elite crime family and he plans on making Amelia his pet. What will happen when sparks begin to fly between them. Fast-paced read with intense chemistry, loads of drama and emotion. Great characters with lots of depth and an entertaining story. I liked it.

His Pet Review
Nicole Cypher

Rating 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 3🌶🌶🌶

This book is the second in the Gruco Crime Family Series. His Pet manages to be quirky, humorous, steamy and dark, all at the same time. This series is rapidly turning into my guilty pleasure.

This book is definitely a page turner. The FMC Amelia is a loving and caring girl. She runs a nonprofit animal shelter. She is an animal rights activist. She protests against one of Gruco members' casinos. She’s proud until everything is taken from her. The MMC Lorenzo is a very uniquely strange person. He is a stone cold guy. He has lions and tigers as pets that he adores. He gets revenge when they’re taken from him. He plans to degrade and put Amelia through hell. His family doesn’t approve of his methods but he doesn’t care.

The things Lorenzo did at the beginning with Amelia came off as more foreplay to me, which added to my interest. It was really twisted how Lorenzo and Amelia's relationship developed from captive and captured, enemies to lovers. However, Lorenzo's feeling for Amelia were honest and true to his great surprise. He never believed he would find anyone to share his life with like he did his tiger.

Amelia at first had every reason to hate and despise Lorenzo. Their love of animals created a bridge to make a friendship blossom and eventually something more. The spicy scenes were something else. You could feel the emotion but be able to imagine what was occurring visually.

The book builds in a way you wouldn’t expect. The characters' relationship over time was surprising. This book overall was a great read. Get ready to lose a day of being productive! This book is the kind that keeps you reading until you finish it in one sitting. I read this book in one day, and it was great! I recommend this book to people who enjoy enemies to lovers and endings you don’t expect to happen.

This book is wild. I'm not usually a fan of that kind of degrading trope/ falling in love with their capture but for this book I surprisingly didn't mind it (currently questioning my sanity haha). Lorenzo is lowkey super unhinged but it was nice to see him go from scary to becoming open with his feelings, loved the layers. Still couldn't get past some things he did though so in my head he isn't fully redeemed.Amelia is feisty and all sorts of confusing in a kind of enjoyable way.

I loved how there was an actual emotional bond that was developed and the plot quite compelling that it made me want to finish it. I will say though that the characters kind of lacked in depth and the ending was kind of rushed but overall it was a really interesting read. It also kind of reminded me of beauty and the beast in a way which is always an auto-read for me so do with that what you will.

p.s. it was pretty intense at times for me and did leave me a bit uncomfortable so keep that in mind (definitely read the tw's). I received a copy of this and am voluntarily leaving an honest review <3

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's my FULL review:
I rated this book 4 stars. The Spice is around 3. Don't  get me wrong, I really enjoyed the book. I also like the fact you can read the books in any order because they are interconnected.
You have Lorenzo. He is part of the Gruco Crime Family.  The mafia. He is a very loyal nan. He owns a big casino in Vegas. He also puts on shows of the ring of fire with his big cats. He owns some very big cats and loves them to do anything for them.
Then we have Amelia, she is a vegan activist, who has been protesting for a long time to have the ring of fire shows  shut down and Lorenzos cats taken away from him. Amelia believes the cats are being mistreated. She doesn't know who's she's messing with.
Amelia gets her way, and Lorenzo is out for revenge. He has her kidnapped, and now he has a new Kitty (Lorenzos nickname for Amelia). Amelia is Lorenzos' new pet.
I've got to admit I wanted to hate Lorenzo,  but really, he is a right softy...lol. I also love the nickname he gave amelia. it's cute.
The book starts off quite slow but soon picks up. If you're looking for mainly spice, then there's only a couple of scenes, really. This book is more action, I would say, especially  between the rival mafia family.  Another bonus i didn't manage to guess anything. Although the romance builds up and the banter between Lorenzo  and Amelia  is great. It shows loyalty , protection,  security,  strength between family, etc.
Overall, this book is a great read. I really enjoyed it. I will be adding the rest of the series to my never-ending TBR. 😂🤣 coming soon
All I can say is kinky, very kinky. So many times I was laughing at Lorenzo and his actions. It was degrading how he treated Amelia, but also kinda funny too.
Lorenzo has taken Amelia, AKA Kitty, as his pet after she gets his lions and tigers taken away. Especially his favorite and most loved Lucian. Amelia is an animal rights activist and protested outside Lorenzo’s hotel because he uses his cats in shows. And after one gets hurts, Amelia and her friends protest. But even with him kidnapping her, degrading her and humiliating her, she still starts to develop feelings for him.
I Love the Gruco Family!!!
This is Lorenzo’s story and it is much darker than His Promise. Lorenzo is a Capo for the family and is a true mafia killer who happens to love animals. This dark, quick paced read had me from page 1 and hasn’t let me go, even though I have finished the book. I loved how the author was able to develop Lorenzo from a ruthless, emotionless character to one that is able to fall in love with his ‘Kitty.’ I loved how he questioned these new found things that the rest of us recognize as emotions and I can’t wait to see what happens next with this family.
This book featured Lorenzo and Amelia. Amelia is an animal rights activist. She was outside protesting at Lorenzo’s casino because he had tigers and lions that perform in his shows. One day his lions tail got burned because someone didn’t set the act up correctly and that is how he came on the radar of Amelia. Everything changed for her after that. She was taken by Lorenzo’s men back to his place where he kept her. Great book.
I ain't going to lie. I did not think I would like the rest of the Gruco family because they are deep in the crime part of the family. I know, I know. I knew this was a mafia series. The first book gave us the cousin that was trying to distance himself from that part of the business. This book steps right into the lion's den, literally. Lorenzo Gruco is the capo of the family. Next in line under his brother, Settimo, who is the underboss. Lorenzo does not play and handles his business. He owns a casino and lions and tigers that perform in a show. An animal rights' activist group has his show and cats in their sights. They succeed in getting them investigated and the cats are confiscated during the process. Lorenzo loves his cats and does not take kindly to someone taking them from him.
Amelia Norwood was exited to finally stop the animal act at the casino. Unfortunately, she did not know who she was dealing with. Lorenzo vowed to make sure she would never forget. Amelia is now Lorenzo's pet until he can get his cats back. Though Lorenzo is scary to look at, Amelia refuses to back down or eat meat. It is amazing how strong-willed Amelia is given the circumstances. How long will the family allow this charade to go on? Will Amelia come out of this with her heart in tack? Lorenzo cannot do what his family wants him to do with Amelia. The feelings between them have grown strong during their time together. Lorenzo's main goal was always to show her how much his animals meant to him. He would never mistreat his cats.
This book delves into the heart of the crime side of the Gruco family, and they do not play. I am surprised to say, I fell in love with Lorenzo despite everything that he did. I can't wait to read about Settimo and Anthony. Settimo, especially, is slowly changing my mind about him as well. Let's see if he can get me to make a complete about face.
This story is about Lorenzo & Amelia -book 2- The Gruco crime family series.📚
The Gruco men are crazy, i mean the sh!t they get into and start oh boy oh boy!! 😜🤪
Lorenzo is kinda weird man who owns a pet tiger that sleeps in his room but he is in a battle with an Animal Rights Activist.💐😊
In comes Amelia who is the animal rights activist. she wins and they take his animals, he's not happy at all and someone has to pay so why not the silly little girl who caused him to lose his pet friends.🐯❤️💙
so he decides if she can get his animals taken she can replace them!! he did love and care for his animals really well thou, it was a shame they where taking awaway🐯🐯
He takes her and holds her, makes her his little pet Kitty. 🤣😽
Amelia is a sweet individual who loves her animals. She is feisty, she usually won’t back down, so when they rescue the animals from the mean old mobster it is considered a win for her that is until he takes her. 🤣
From the moment they both met the attraction for each other was there so intense and them fighting with each other only made that pull stronger.💙❤️
she finds herself under his care and truth be told she loves every minute but mom's the word , as she isn’t ready to admit that to him yet. 🌹🤣
Lorenzo is feeling things he hasn’t felt In a long that it scares him, can they stop hating each other long enough to realize there is a thin line between love and hate and right now it seems love is winning, fate has stepped in taking control but where it is headed will it end with happiness for the two animal lovers?.🌹💙❤️ Buy the book and find out.!!
This was a funny read I loved every minute off it. Highly recommended.
A wild ride to love…
This is the second book in the series and it took an unexpected turn… Still in Vegas, still totally immersed in the mafia-esque world. Great writing style and characters with depth. The story content was at turns emotional, steamy, and edgy…
Or should I say compelling? Despite my misgivings (kidnapping, human pet), the characters won me over. Lorenzo was cold and calculating yet Amelia forced him outside of his comfort zone simply by her character and will to survive. He was an enigma at times, hard to read and uneven in his lust (and actions) in his thirst for revenge. And when she pushed back, you never knew what was going to happen…
Amelia was in a life or death situation and I don’t know that I would have survived as she did. It was hard, incredibly so, the waves of hope and despair hard to read. She was smart and resourceful, and the man who had her, was not always the devil she knew him to be…
I was torn between really enjoying the story and completely uneasy with the premise and some of the content. It was well written. I have no reservations about devouring more of this series and other works by this author. Ultimately, this is one trope I must be honest to myself about and realize stepping outside of my comfort zone may have been one inch too far…
I read this in one night, unable to look away. I was rewarded with the explosive ending that left this story on just the right note. Family, loyalty and love winning out will never get old…
*I happily reviewed this story
His Pet is the first book I have read by Nicole Cypher and I think it was great place to start. I loved this book and honestly, I could read it again. The plot for this book was amazing - not like anything I have ever read before. When I read the blurb for His Pet it intrigued me and it didn't take long for me to find out I was right. This book was definitely an entertaining read. Nicole did a great job bringing to life Lorenzo, a sexy bad boy alpha male who was the perfect amount of crazy. I also thought she did a wonderful job creating Amelia, a strong and independent female who had fight in her. I am definitely a new fan of Nicole's and I can't wait to read more books by this author.
Amelia is an animal activist who protested for Lorenzo's animals who were part of the Ring of Fire show in his casino to be taken away. After she is successful having them removed Lorenzo decides he will teach her a lesson. He has Amelia kidnapped and brought to him. Since his pets are gone she will take their place until they are returned to him. He takes joy in degrading and humiliating Amelia for her actions. Somewhere along the way Lorenzo begins to have feelings for Amelia and vice versa. The problem is can Lorenzo and Amelia recover from this ordeal to find a happily ever after together?
His craving by MeemsAngel82
This was an interesting one, that's for sure. Nicole has created a entertaining bunch of brothers in this crime family series. I unfortunately read the last book of this series first so I was so bummed about that. Now I'm trying to redo that. This was a frustrating male lewd at first because I really thought he was not forgivable for the humiliation and coldness that he showed her but never say never...
The vegan animal lover didn't want him using big cats that way. But he'd take her and show her he was not to be crossed.
And DoD he! I was over the top mad at him because she didn't hurt anyone. She was trying to do good and both actually cared about the big cats. They each had their own mindset about it and he took thinks too far for me. But then he had a connection with her that couldn't be denied and as much as I was shocked that she could find and enjoy his decent side, I get it. She had a connection to him and she chose to not want to break that and he actually needed her as well. I do wish he apologized about certain things. Their chemistry was great and I was fascinated to read about Anthony's older brother. And he has more family members... I'm so interested to see what else this family has in-store for us!
This definitely a page turner. The male lead Lorenzo is a very uniquely strange person. It was like he could not remember what certain type of feelings felt like. He used Amelia to describe at certain times what she was thinking and feeling. His pet is a tiger he raised from a cub and sleeps in his bedroom with him.
It was really twisted how Lorenzo and Amelia's relationship developed from captive and captured, enemies to lovers. However, Lorenzo's feeling for Amelia were honest and true to his great surprise. He never believed he would find anyone to share his life with like he did his tiger.
Amelia at first had every reason to hate and despise Lorenzo, but she towed the line and was rewarded in the end for her bravery and love.
A very quirky romance sure to keep your attention page after page. A good read.
This series is rapidly turning into my guilty pleasure and I am unapologetic about it.
His Pet manages to be quirky, humorous, steamy and dark, all at the same time.
When Lorenzo, the surely psychotic Capo of the Gruco Crime family is stripped of his 'pet' wild animals (yep you read that right) by a dynamo animal rights activist Amelia, he executes a plan of horrific revenge. She will experience what it is like to be his 'pet' with all that that entails…..
This should be so wrong but it reads so right. Well crafted with extraordinarily likeable characters, this is a page turner. Lorenzo and Amelia are so well matched, the push and pull is delicious.
There are triggers here but I am working my way through this series and there is nothing so far (and some are more graphic than others) I find offensive, but then the bar is set quite low!
A juicy four stars for this rip-roaring story.
🌶️🌶️
This book had a lot of potential but ultimately lost a star because of the animals! To me personally it just wasn’t realistic! A lion sleeping in a bedroom on a chain? Nope!
I also feel that it needed more spice! While it was a forced prox Stockholm syndrome type of deal it would’ve been more enjoyable being longer and having more spice/smut
But overall I did enjoy it! If you enjoy enemies to lovers forced prox mafia romances featuring big cats- check this one out.
Lorenzo was one strange cat but I loved him. He is most definitely a wild card cold blooded killer but he is an animal fanatic. So of course when his wild pets are taken away, the animal activist responsible for it replaces them in their cage. I really liked the premise and thought it added some fun to the captive trope. I think there was sufficient time that went by for it to believable that Amelia would start having feelings for Lorenzo.
This was a perfect quote about Lorenzo:
“Plenty of women would find the whole bad boy thing he has going on hot as hell. But he’s too… I don’t know, weird, to be a charmer. He just looks like the type of man with a dead body in his trunk."
But of course he ends up charming the pants off Amelia.
This is the second book in the Gruco family crime series. While I did not read the first book, I still found this book enjoyable. An animal activist gets a mobster’s cats taken from her and to retaliate, he kidnaps her.
I am all for the enemies to lovers trope, so I really enjoyed that aspect of the book. I did find it be a little slow in the beginning, but I felt that it picked up around the halfway point. There are some steamy scenes that were absolutely great. There were more action than steamy scenes, so I would keep that in mind if you are looking for something more erotic. You saw the characters grow as the book went on, which I absolutely loved
Overall, it was a good book. My overall rating is 3.75/5.
This is Book 2 in the Gruco Crime Family and focuses on Lorenzo and Amelia and their ride to HEA. Amelia is an activist. She is an animal lover, runs non-profit shelter and is vegan. Lorenzo is also an animal lover, but he loves big cats and keeps them with him at his hotel. They also perform in shows. Amelia gets put on his radar when she protests at his hotel and gets his beloved big cats taken away. Lorenzo plans his revenge and Amelia will replace the pets that were taken away from him.
I will admit that I was not sure if I cared for Lorenzo. His treatment of Amelia is a kink that some may find offensive. So, beware. However, I will say he does redeem himself. When these two decide to let the anger go with each other the steam goes up a notch.
I love this author’s writing style. I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series.
DARKish.
Lorenzo Gruco is out for revenge, and he’s going to get it. He is a caporegime of the Gruco Crime Family and owner of the casino. His people skills are lacking, he comes across as threatening, even when he doesn’t intend to.
Amelia Norwood (age 25) was so happy about winning freedom for the tigers/lions. But Lorenzo is unhinged and kidnaps her quickly. As their personalities clash they also compliment each other and they fall in love. It’s hard for Amelia to admit she could like a man who degraded and humiliated her while Lorenzo never had these feelings before.
I was disappointed this book was not as dark or spicy as the blurb and title had me think. Mind you, I read a lot of dark stuff so this felt more tame. It was more medium burn but I did enjoy the intimate scenes.
I enjoyed learning more about the Gruco family and look forward to the brother’s books!
Not only is this my first novel by this author, but it is also the first time I've read anything by this author. You seldom see any mafia-related elements in the tale. Lorenzo is an animal lover who in his Las Vegas casino there are lions and tigers kept as pets, but Amalia, the head of a non-profit organization, has the animals removed because she feels they are being abused. In my opinion, the character development for Amalia might have been better given all we just know about hers that her father is well known. The same can be said about Lorenzo and his family.I was able to see where the tale may have gone, but it simply didn't get there.
This is a dark romance with all that entails - keep that in mind before reading if that isn’t your jam.
No spoilers but potential plot point themes follow.
I love an unhinged dark villain and Lorenzo surely is one. No grey area for him. I enjoy the way the romance grew in the book not instant love but seeing beyond the bad guy and still falling for him.
The only thing I feel like is missing for me is that it seems like there should be a bit more exploration or when it turns from the enemy to the lover. The book flows well but it does seem like there was something missing in how they got there.
