Oh, man....what a fucking great follow up to Alpha!!

I didn't know how Tiya Rayne was going to continue the story of these guys in a new and fresh way but she hit it out of the park.

Batflip GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

In Sigma, we get the nerdy, almost autistic one of the main group of five. (Alpha, Beta, Sigma, Omega, and Gamma) He likes order, lists, knowledge and history...not so much other people. Yet at the same time he's as powerful and physically enhanced as the rest.

I really loved Sigma's story. It gave us an amazing behind the scenes look into what REALLY was going in between the guys during Alpha's story. We also learn so much about what and who the guys are. Plus, unbeknownst to Alpha and us, Sigma also found his mate and kept her hidden somewhere deep in the facility. Shiloh is such an amazing and resilient lady. Sigma and her help heal each other from the trauma of their pasts. Their relationship is every bit as epic and intense as Alpha and Morgan's.

We definitely had another crazy rollercoaster ride, where danger lurked around every bend. I can't wait for the next one. The teaser literally made by jaw drop. A massive twist that just threw this storyline for a major loop.

This is the second in the author's multicultural series about genetically engineered super-soldiers and the breeder women they're paired with and ultimately grow to love. Because so many characters and events from the first "weird alien book" are referenced (this story takes place concurrently), I'm not sure it works as a standalone. Safety Warning: Both characters have sex with others; this doesn't bother me since they weren't together at the time, but I know it will bother others. Side Note: I'm really glad I waited to read the first book, since there was a four-year delay between releases. I definitely would not have remembered salient plot points if I had read Alpha when it first came out!

Warning: If you haven't read the first book, the below contains spoilers.

I think the author listened to readers' criticisms because many of the first book's problems are absent here. This entry was much better edited (though still contained incorrect subject/verb agreement, poor word choice, and missing punctuation); we got both MC's POVs (as opposed to only the MFC's in the previous one); and many of my questions about the sci-fi aspects and logistics were answered. We now know how the men communicate with each other; where they were originally from (mostly); how and why they waited so long to escape; and why the men are so besotted with their women. While the first book recounted events through the eyes of an outsider, this one gives us the insider's perspective; soon we learn that almost everything we thought we knew was wrong.

The strengths of the first book are also present in terms of the detailed worldbuilding, plot twists (some won't be to all tastes), and memorable secondary characters. Although similar character types (quasi-cult leader Miguel and Carlito resemble Strong and Asim) and concurrent events make this book in some ways a retread of the first, one major difference is the MFC. Where Morgan was wealthy, insecure, and kind-hearted, Shiloh is the neglected child of a drug-addict, confident in her sexuality and effect on men, and tough as only someone who has survived on the streets can be. I note that not all reviewers liked her -- which I understand -- but since I find good girl/bad boy an over-used, boring trope, I was fine with someone who is at times unsympathetic and I liked her character growth. Finally, Shiloh's sass and Sigma's seriousness lead to many humorous exchanges and I appreciated that this was lighter in tone than Alpha's story, which on occasion turned into torture porn.

4 stars. I took off one star because it dragged in places and didn't have as much action as the first. Those who enjoy contemporary dystopian sci-fi romance and the Fated Mates trope will probably like this. For personal reasons, I loved that Sigma was an historian! Several lines of action remain open and we do get a teaser for the next book.

Aliens reincarnated as super soldiers!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️😮☺️😍🥰

The heroine: Shiloh - she is the arm candy to the leader of one of the most lucrative sex trafficking rings in the United States. His name is Miguel Estrava and each year he hosts a big party which he calls “sample night” in which he loans out his collection of women to the highest bidder. Shiloh is in that collection, the one girl he is obsessed with and is not for sale. She can’t see a way out of hell she lives in. She has strict rules on this night which include staying within Miguels sight and not making eye contact with anyone. Breaking the rules has severe consequences.

The Hero: Sigma - he is a 6’9”, muscular super soldier created by scientists working for a secret government project that not even the president knew about. He was created in a petri dish out of synthetic and alien DNA. He and his brothers are virtually indestructible. Not even specially designed bullets using the strongest metal on earth can kill them. It even takes a crapload of tranquilizer darts will sometimes barely phase them, though eventually enough tranqs will put them to sleep for a bit. There one weakness is the need for sunlight.

The Story: Due to the DNA, and Sigma can remember his past life as a historian on the planet Albatreum. Though much of his memory of his past life has faded, he still has some of his specialized abilities. One of which is the power to be able to touch a wall and find any electronics nearby and manipulate them, hack into them and use them in any way he needs to. He and his brothers plan to escape soon, they work on their escape every day and are just waiting for the word from Alpha as to when the best time will be. Though Alpha seems to know something is coming and is waiting for the right moment.

After hearing that some of the girls are being sent to do some sort of fertility testing and will basically be disappeared, Shiloh knows that it might be her one chance to escape from Miguel. She carefully plans her escape by posing as another of his girls that resembles her but wears an old athletic team sweatshirt all the time and has a buzz haircut. Shi cuts off her hair and joins the group of women as they are sent away. It isn’t until months later when she arrives at the compound that she finds out why that they are really there to breed with the super soldiers.

“All the women in this house are his [Miguel’s]. He f*cks them all and any other woman he sees and wants. The other women are free to sleep with whomever as long as they are available to him when he wants them. I, on the other hand, cannot even look a man in the eye without that man dying.”

“He didn’t have to tell me twice; I wanted off that lot. Hell, I wanted to go home. However, there is no going back now. What’s the saying, out of the frying pan and into the fire. This must be hell fire.”

One thing I really liked about this book that wasn’t shown as much in the first book was the brotherhood between the super soldiers, especially the ones that chose names. There is also a lot more information on the super soldiers as a whole. They call themselves reincarnates, since they each got DNA from different alien beings. Some, like Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Omega and Sigma were high ranking officials, while others were just normal citizens. There are also rogues, who got more of the synthesized DNA which makes them more rage-filled and uncontrollable. We found out in the first book that some of them had to be put down because it wouldn’t be safe for them to escape.

Memories

Before I read this book I went back and re-read Alpha. I'm glad I did. This books time line runs along side the first book and filled in well needed information. I liked Sigma's story, his struggles and being given a second chance for love. Shiloh story rounded out this book and showed her to be a strong, resilient woman worth saving. Once again this story had just enough bad guys to keep the suspense, as well as Reynolds a soldier smarter than the brilliant scientist and leaders. I'm looking forward to the next story and hope it doesn't take long before it comes out.

Spoilers ahead

I'm way behind on my reviews 🤦🏾‍♀️ but I really enjoyed this one. It's much more fleshed out than book 1 and we finally get a better understanding of these guys and how they came about. Loved the H in this one, the relationship development always feels like something's missing but I can't put my finger on why.
Anyways can't wait for more in this series.

I Need More!!!

We’re way beyond chokehold… This series has me in a headlock!

SIGMA, book two in the Alpha series was excellent. We got to relive the shared experience from Alpha but from a different POV, through SIGMA. Sigma is one of the other super soldiers of the ones we met in ALPHA.

Sigma struggles with accepting the fact that he has angered mate. I loved how the story was done and it was another original plot by this author who seems to have a knack for thinking outside the box. I absolutely loved it.

I cannot wait for the next installment!

Happy reading! ❤️

Hmmm...

It was hard to finish this book. It was difficult reconciling this book with the first one. I understand Sigma's character was not supposed to be a replica of Alpha, yet, it was not well executed. It felt like the author wanted to create another "Alpha" and portrayed the original one as weak & yearning for his brothers/people's approval compared to Sigma. As for Shiloh, she was too fickle and annoying compared to Morgan. Hopefully, Stryker's story will be more captivating.

Wow!

What a way to end a story, I can't wait for the next book. I love Zee
he's the kind of guy you would want as a friend. On to Sigma he was more serious than the others, when he met his mate he fought it but in the end he couldn't resist. I liked the nickname that Shiloh gave Sigma.

This storyline is concurrent with Alpha but told through the viewpoint of Sigma and Shiloh. While the writing was excellent and the plot was captivating, I was greatly disappointed. I thought this book picked up where Alpha left off, a sequel. Instead, it was like re-reading the first book. However, the next book, Stryker, promises to be more of a continuation of the story instead of a retelling. 3.7 Stars.

Sigmaaaaaaaaaa!

Wow, this was a great read. I really enjoyed it. I loved Sigma. He was introverted, stubborn, funny without trying to be funny and totally all about that thug life when it came to his baby Shiloh. His discovery of the internet was funny. He was always researching something. When he researched Shiloh' s kind, laughed to hard. He really desired to take good care of her and he did. Shiloh was a survivor and a fighter which made her a good match for Sigma. She endured some bad things in her life, but managed to get back up whenever she was kicked down. I liked being able to see things through the eyes of Sigma. He filled in the blanks from Alpha's story. Now, Alpha will always be bae, but I love me some Sigma. So, yes this was definitely a great story and I look forward to reading Ms. Rayne's next alien story release... lol. Great job, Tiya Rayne.

The Alpha series is...ALPHA!

I was pulled in when I read Alpha and Morgan's story. The characters; Alpha, Sigma, Beta, Gamma and Omega had such an intense energy bond as a team that really leaped out. And what the women and they go through...

I'm was so happy to see that the series was being continued. And talk about really a fantastic continuation with Sigma and Shiloh! Like the first book in series; Alpha, Sigma was an emotional rollercoaster also. I loved Sigma's analytical--research everything *lol* style and Shiloh's some times dry, sarcastic thoughts. I wanted them to get their HEA...but especially I wanted Sigma to get his after learning ...
I cannot wait till the next book in the series!

Interesting

If you read "Alpha", this book provides a lot of background information about the superhuman species, and fills in some gaps from the previous story.

The LI was likeable, with a unintended, dry wit. However, I couldn't connect with the MC in the story.

The MC's background was that of a person who'd been basically deserted by parents (short version), and ended up with a possessive, controlling boyfriend.

Although the MC mentioned the boyfriends terrible employment, it seemed like the main reason she wanted to leave him was because he was controlling and possessive, not because of those other pesky horrible ways he chose to make money.

She complained about being controlled, but then ran right into an even worse situation with no real concrete plans of how to maintain a living when released.

There was no real character development for the MC, and she was made out to be oddly dependent for someone always in "survival mode".

Overall, it was still a good read; and, I recommend it.

Well well well…

I really enjoyed reading this story from the insight of another solider around Alpha. Tiya Rayne you have done it again the action was amazing throughout the whole book, I so loved Sigma and Shiloh’s story. I wanted to beat Candace a*s, like you deranged woman what is wrong with you 🤦🏾‍♀️. Sigma tried to fight that love connection but the development of how they both opened up to each other felt real. These scientists are crazy but all this is going to backfire on them. I am ready for the other books like yesterday because the end of this book had me at the edge of my seat 😂

Oooweee, I'm so glad this series is revisited! Great story of action, mystery and steam. I don't think you have to read Alpha to dig into this, but I would recommend it. Reading Alpha, just flushes out the nuisances of what's going on in Sigma. We have strong mcs and great secondary characters. The story moves nicely. I will warn you that there are a couple of typos in the stories, but didn't track from it at all. I wait anxiously for the next in the series, and I hope it won't take as long to make it to readers.

Sigma continues the storyline of the series, but this book reveals much more about these reincarnated men.

There are five of them who were created in a lab. They were created by a narcissistic mad scientist named Dr. Strong to be soldiers for the government. DNA from their home planet Albatraum is mixed with a foreign substance that creates a chemical imbalance that causes aggression and violence which is not their nature. Alpha, Sigma, Beta, Omega, Gamma are the main super soldiers in this book and Alpha is their King. They are restricted to an isolated location and controlled by Dr. Strong; or so he thought. Dr. Strong and the guards overseeing them underestimate the intelligence of these men and think they are mindless souls. They are not. These super soldiers are not only physically superior, but they also have powers unimaginable to the humans who treat them like idiots.

To make more super soldiers, Dr. Strong's goal is to breed his creations with human women. Shiloh is on the run from an abusive and violent environment. In the past attempted escapes, she is always found but this time she has a plan that is guaranteed to get her freedom. The only problem is she has escaped one prison for another, and her enemies are closing in for the kill. After a vicious attack and left for dead, Sigma finds her. This is when our love story begins.

This book has a few layers that add interest to the storyline and characters. Not only do we have the relationship between Sigma and Shiloh, but we also have one between Sigma and Alpha that is very interesting. Lots of action and allies found in unexpected places. I was looking forward to reading the next book but there isn't one. Sigma was published in 2022 so I'm wondering if and when the next book will be available. Well, I think this is a series worth reading and I will be ready when there is another book to read.

I loved this so much! This one takes place at the same time the first book does and it adds a lot of valuable information to the story. I liked the fact we got Sigmas pov and learn a lot about this alien race and their life at the facility. The whole series is well thought out and I liked the dark setting. The writing style is fluent and easy to understand (as a non native english speaker).
Shiloh and Sigma are a great couple. I equally loved both of them and I think they‘re perfect for each other. Their story was well build up and interesting to read. I would‘ve loved the fact to get more scenes with just the two of them because I got the feeling Morgan & Alpha played a big role in this book too.
All in all this was a fantastic and dark science fiction romance.
I hope we get some more books in this series (because the ending?!?!).

What a great action packed story

There is one thing for certain, the Albatraum regenerated super soldiers love hard and true when they find their mates. Their love is so deep and loyal that the word "love" does not adequately describe the depth of their feelings towards their mate and younglings. There were three batsh@t crazy characters in this story. Miguel was used to having his way and killed anyone that stood in it. Candace was so brainwashed by Miguel and did not realize it until it was too late. Dr. Strong was just a narcist that thought he had thé keys to scientific knowledge. They all paid the ultimate price in the long run.

The humans were more monsters than the super soldiers and did not know all that they thought they knew about them. They were under the impression that they were just mindless mutes when in reality they were so much more advanced than the human brain could understand.

Shiloh had just lost hope being in the gilded cage of the Castle of Sin. Her only hope was to escape. But she jumped from the frying pan straight into the fire. Had she not, she would never know true love with her Siggy, her super soldier monster. He restored her trust in men and showed her that she could have real love and desire for a real family, something she never wanted with Miguel.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the super-soldier regenerates. It had been so long since Alpha was out, that I had to re-read it in desperation to reading Sigma . I hope Tiya doesn't wait too long to give us Stryker's story.

INCREDIBLE!!!! ALPHA was my first book by author Tiya Rayne and I loved it SO much. I'm so glad she decided to continue this DELICIOUS series. Sigma.... wow I just love him. The epitome of silent but deadly, but he is so much more. Loyal, Protective, Intelligent, and the way he cherishes Shiloh...swoon! Have to love a man/alien that is over the top in his obsession and will do absolutely anything for you, we love to see it. Shiloh has had a complicated journey in life, full of challenges, struggles, and violence. Throughout this story she is met with constant adversity. She holds her own, she knows how to play the game, and she has an internal strength about her.

I loved how these two developed their bond, the addiction came out of nowhere for both of them. They are consumed by one another! It was great to see how their story developed and immersed into Morgan and Alpha's timeline. We meet new side characters and get to know Gamma, Beta, and Omega even more. This series is ADDICTING! The steam comes through the pages... and that epilogue has me on edge! When I tell you I am absolutely PARCHED for more... Yesss thank you Tiya for sharing your talent with us.

I didn’t like this one as much as the first book. Sigma is unlikeable, and I could totally understand why all the other women hated Shiloh. We see a lot of the violence her life with Miguel entails, but her reactions are very bland. I found it hard to believe she was afraid or in any danger at all. Sure, she’s been there long enough that these things feel trivial to her, but in her head she thinks how afraid she is. I never saw it. When reading Alpha, I wished to have his POV to get some context, but now that I’ve been in Sigma’s head, I’m grateful for not having that in the first book. I wouldn’t have liked Alpha. Also, Morgan was an interesting person, and her reactions and emotions felt real. Shiloh isn’t as well written. Maybe because of the situation she’s in and the point at which we begin the story, but still I believe that if the author is good, they can make the characters feel real no matter the situation. That was not the case here. The violence felt like it was there just for the shock factor, but it didn’t really have an impact on the characters. Besides, Shiloh made very questionable decisions, and I never saw her as the hardened bitch the author told me she was. she was stupid, period.

And the final straw was when Sigma does to Shiloh exactly what Miguel does. Villain is bad for it, he's a psychopath, etc. But Sigma does it, and it's romantic. Nope, not giving this anymore of my time.

DNF 60%.

I’m giving this book 2 stars. I found the overall theme interesting and find myself wanting to read similar books. However, there were a few things that bothered me.

-the issue the the editing and grammar. There were at least 2 times in which a paragraph started mid sentence!! And you missed a bit of story from it. I’m no grammar police, but uff 😥, the grammar also needed a lot of polish.
-the reason why Sigma withheld information regarding him finding his mate and his babies was silly. It felt like the author wanted unnecessary drama and just decided that this would be perfect. In my opinion, it was not. Sigma lack of openness was a hit understandably okay in the beginning. But he kept the secret for no real reason for so long. It was a tool used to stretch the story and it didn’t work
-I was a bit over Shiloh early on. I didn’t connect much with her character. Her story made me roll my eyes and I skimmed through her chapters.
-the villains in this book were very identical as the villains in book 1.
- too much recap or retelling about events that took place in book 1. At least it would be nice if the events were retold in a different POV.
-TOO MUCH TIME WAS SPENT BETWEEN OUR MFC AND MIGUEL. I think it was about 25% of the first half that we had no interaction between the mains.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

3.00 Stars. (BW/ Alien). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. Sigma, the hero, is one of the elite five physically enhanced aliens and is a genius level computer technician and electrical engineer. Reluctantly, Sigma participates in the mating of human females but he is a loner and prefers physical exercise to interacting with others. Now 30+years-old, Shiloh Green, has been a kept female and heart throb of a human trafficking manic psychopath since she was seventeen. I enjoyed the love story of Sigma and Shiloh; but the storyline of this dragged and too much time was spent telling the story of Shiloh's life with Miguel, her captor and psychotic lover. Over 25% of the was written before the Sigma and Shiloh meet. There are many uninteresting lags featuring Shiloh getting beat down by her nemesis and co-lover of Miguel or outburst of violence between the aliens and their guards. Sigma and Shiloh are likable characters and their romance is memorable.

Well...All righty.😊

I begruged every time I had to put this book away. Its good. Rayne does a great job of unfolding the many layers of this whole complicated scenario. The grittiness, duplicity, greed and inhumanity are so real world and relatable that I was constantly on an emotional roller coaster.
I felt like I was almost able to crawl into this world as a participant.😉
I found Sigma even more endearing than Alpha. Their origins and treatment are so believable as its a known fact that experiments conducted on humans thru our military and government have and continue to occur.
And the all too common mistreatment of women here is also heart wrenchingly real. You will bleed for Morgan, Shiloh and all the other women.
Looking forward to the continuation of this series and its very colorful characters. Mysteries and unanswered questions will keep me coming back for more. There are some typos but overall...great storytelling. Well done.🤗

Hummm, I love me some Sigma but he was just too serious

So okay, this is the second book and it was good, buttttt, something was missing. I mean Alpha was my all time favorite and I think Beta would be my next one but Sigma was a surprise. He was quiet, nerd like but was deadly and just too cute. Those scenes, baby 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ they were WOW 🤩
In any case, I really thought were were going to get Beta as book 2, but side note, Alpha and Morgan, are still my #1s. Now I need Sigma to stop being a baby and just go back trusting and be Alpha’s best friend…
Now while reading I thought of the clue where Gamma or was it Omega teaching the one who dared touch his mate, this was a hint that this is where book 3 will start, but Stricker is in the mix and now I truly must patiently wait for who or what is book 3 😤😡
Now good job MS. Rayne, good job!!!!

Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern.

Well, I'm not three books in yet, but would've jumped into #3 regardless. Yes, the premise is relatively unoriginal. The dialogue oftentimes very silly and cartoon-ish. The writing very unpolished (did the editor have her day off?). The characterization very thin and sloppy. BUT. A secret government project looking into producing more super soldiers is pretty fun reading material, though.

The series has that early 2000s vibe à la James Cameron's Dark Angel which is my catnip. Prison stories are completely engrossing to me because these stories are set in their own isolated bubbles where a hierarchy of their own with specific rules and codes of conduct act supreme. It's an animal kingdom and you're either a predator or ... someone's bitch.
