HIKE

Rate this book
Having forced his way into a trip to Bear Creek, the narrator follows his friend and Bear Creek local, Si, around its sights and horrors - through the semi-visible Downtown, the beautiful Lemon Gulch, the cruisy dunes, the Cave Archipelago and beyond. This travel guide was written as a warning and explanation. I had to get it all out because it was poisoning me. There are lines you can cross without ever realising.

A lot to be said for this curious little book. Firstly, the time and effort that has gone into the design is clear, with wonderful cover art and thoughtful layout. The writing though is fantastic, with a mix of poetry and prose that is both minimalist, yet full of imagery so that it feels like you are there, a part of Bear Creek. Immediately it gives off some real Twin Peaks vibes, and keeps a sense of dread building until the end. All in all, highly recommended.
