Arcea Vale had a good life. Her mother was the head of the government and her father a professor at the University she attended. Life was good, if dull. That is, until war came to her doorstep. An old family friend entrusts her with a mission: find the most dangerous Weapon in the world to assassinate the most dangerous man in the world. A world of adventure and Old Gods awaits her, but is she really the chosen for this? Can she kill to end the war?
An exciting fantasy story that blurs the lines of what it means to be good and evil. Come on an adventure involving and immortal god-king, secret societies, strange magic, and maybe a little nightmare fuel.
I enjoyed some aspects of this novel more than others.
I thought the background of the artifacts and the world building was excellent. There were historical interjections throughout the novel that did a nice job of adding to the story.
The main story itself seemed too easy for the main character, Arcea. The 'Catalyst' (super powered weapon) is recovered without any difficulty. Most of the conflicts are resolved easily. Arcea's main challenge is reigning in the power of the catalyst. I just didn't feel like Arcea was ever in any real danger.
I liked the final encounter with the main villain.
I think this novel had a lot of potential, but the main story needed to be more fleshed out a bit more.
