Their daughter’s abduction destroyed their marriage.
Raven Oswald has never given up on her daughter, for ten years she's used her computer skills to try to bring down the trafficking ring responsible for Cleo's abduction. When she finally gets a viable lead she heads straight to Columbia to check it out. The last person she expected to follow her was her ex-husband. He left her not long after their daughter was taken and she hasn't heard from him since, she doesn't want or need his help.
Max Hathaway knows he messed up when he took his eyes off his three-year-old daughter that day at the park and guilt has been slowly consuming him ever since. But when Raven recklessly puts herself directly on the dangerous trafficking ring's radar, the pararescueman has no choice but to follow after her. Whether she likes it or not he's going to keep her safe, and maybe earn her forgiveness before the guilt eats him alive.
USA Today bestselling author Jane Blythe writes action-packed romantic suspense and military romance featuring protective heroes and heroines who are survivors. One of Jane's most popular series includes Prey Security, part of Susan Stoker's OPERATION ALPHA world! Writing in that world alongside authors such as Janie Crouch and Riley Edwards has been a blast, and she looks forward to bringing more books to this genre, both within and outside of Stoker's world. When Jane isn't binge-reading she's counting down to Christmas and adding to her 200+ teddy bear collection!
Protecting Raven by Jane Blythe is part of Susan Stoker’s Fan Fiction World. I have read numerous books by several different authors in the series and love what they have done with Susan Stoker’s characters. Jane Blythe hits a home run with Protecting Raven.
Max Hathaway left Raven after the abduction of their daughter by a Colombian sex trafficking ring. He had turned his back for a moment…and she was gone. His feelings of guilt haunted him and destroyed his marriage.
Prey Security is owned by all six of the Oswald siblings. I love them all being named after birds, a very creative and cute idea.
A new clue has come in and Raven is on her way to Colombia. She planned to call in reinforcements when she found the location of the auction. Max followed her to Colombia and will stick to her side like glue. So much danger, he vows to not let her out of his site.
Neither Max nor Raven have been able to move on in the ten years since Cleo has been missing. Could they have a second chance? Could they find Cleo after ten years? If they did, what would she be like? How damaged would she be?
I remember Raven from an earlier Jane Blythe book. She’s a badass, a survivor, a computer genius, but has vowed never to use violence again. It doesn’t mean she’ll go quietly into that good night.
I think Protecting Raven has more bite than Protecting Eagle. I do love the dark and gritty world Jane Blythe has created, which revs me up.
Most of the time I know what’s coming in most of the novels I read, but Protecting Raven did have those moments where I held my breath. There was a point where I began to devour the words, having to know…The horrors of sex trafficking, the disgusting traffickers, the tragedy the girls go through..Cleo was taken at three years old. I cannot imagine how I would feel, the rage, frustration, the terror of knowing your little one is being used horribly.
I know a lot of people are turned off by this kind of novel, but I dive right in. It is a fact of life that these things happen every day in the real world. Jane Blythe’s novels ring of truth, her characters of reality and I grieve with them.
I think one of the reasons I love romantic suspense so much is because amongst the danger there will be love, loyalty, romance and a happy ever after.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Protecting Raven by Jane Blythe.
Unfortunately in his grief Max forgot that he and Raven were stronger as a team and he ran, they have spent the last ten years living through the most horrific trauma any parent can. The pain, the grief and the guilt are crushing, they make it hard to breathe, but most of all they make it almost impossible to hope. Whilst they have lived through the same trauma Max and Raven have dealt with it differently, what neither of them have dealt with or lost is the love that brought them together...they may be divorced but they never stopped loving each other, it explodes from the page each time they look at each other. But love is not always enough, you need trust too, the biggest mission of their lives will either heal their relationship or kill them both. A harrowing and heartbreaking story for Raven, but she is stronger than she knows and proves herself time and again, can she prove all her doubters wrong and find the most precious prize of all despite the odds... I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Her child was stolen from them and after all these years, she’s never stopped looking for her. Raven’s story is one of every parents nightmares! You take your eyes off your child for one second and they vanish into thin air. This story gave me chills. The lengths Raven and Max go to try and find the trafficking ring that stole their daughter is amazing. A story filled with drama, terror and love, showing the determination they will go to for answers, it had me hooked from the beginning right to the end!
Raven and Maxs second chance love story was one filled with so much intensity, fear and a mothers undying devotion not to rest until she finds her daughter and brings down everyone who touched a hair on her head. Max will do anything to find his daughter too and they are about to heaven and earth to find out the truth! Loved this page turner
Raven is a mother that went through the most traumatic events in her life, one being the kidnapping of her toddler. Feeling her baby in her heart for 10 years she never gave up hope. Guilt from her husband drove him to leave all those years ago. She's on a mission to find answers and he's been sent to guard her. Could they bluff their way through this mission and find a miracle. This was such an emotional story, so break out the tissues in case. Plenty of action and heart stopping moments will have you hooked. I can't wait for book 3, I hope you enjoy this series as much as I am.
Heartbreak+misplaced blame+alpha male+stubborn h= one hell of a story The lose of a child will either bring you together or break you apart… that is Raven”a story. Not only is her child taken but she must spend 10 years searching alone …can she forgive Max for walking away? Can Max forgive himself long enough to stay??
Curl up and find out!!!! Another awesome story from Jane Blythe.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
"You're my midnight, my quiet in the storm. My peace." "I'm not. You left. You left me alone in the storm."
I knew going in this one was going to hit me in the feels but oh boy talk about an emotional rollercoaster ride. While devouring Protecting Raven this story stole, squeezed, broke and repaired my poor heart. Ten years ago Raven and Max experienced the unimaginable, there three year old daughter was kidnapped, shattering their hearts and destroying their family and marriage.
As they go after the people responsible for abducting their sweet little girl Raven and Max are brought back together once again for one heck of a emotionally charged reunion. It took me on a journey riddled with heartbreak, angst, suspense, action, regret, emotion, forgiveness, family, love, and twists and turns that had me gasping in shock and surprise.
Once again Jane Blythe has written a heart stealing story that had me utterly captivated from start to finish. The characters all captured my heart and gosh you can't help but root for them and a well deserved HEA.
Another absolutely must read!!! I can't wait for more of this series.
What a emotional rollercoaster ride . I cannot remember the last time I read a book that broke my heart so completely and then had the ability to put it back to together again . Protecting Raven is one of the beautifully written stories I have read in a very long time . The loss of a child is a tragedy that no one should ever have to experience, I think that part of the reason I was able to relate to the heartbreak both Raven and Max experienced was because I myself have experienced the loss they are going through and all the emotions that follow. I do not want to give any details so pardon the lack of description when it comes to the storyline . What I will say is that from the moment I sat down and started reading to say that I was completely captivated would be a understatement, It was genuinely impossible not to fall in love with both Raven and Max’s characters , both are so likable and relatable as well as extremely multi layered . To experience the development of their relationship. All the ups and downs and obstacles they endured to find their happy ending was like being on a emotional rollercoaster. Off the charts chemistry, Intrigue, heartbreak, angst , suspense, second chances, unexpected surprises and some of the most emotional moments . I laughed , I cried and I was literally on the edge of my seat rooting so hard for their happy ending .Do not miss their phenomenal book
I loved Raven in the first story of this series. She showed herself to be a strong woman who used her talents to bring evil to an end. In this story Raven blows me away with her sheer strength in continuing to believe in something that may or may not be true. She fights every single moment of every day, never giving up. She is an absolutely amazing character. Max I have to admit I didn’t want to like. He left the love of his life when she needed him the most but Jane Blythe soon changed my mind. The talent with which she portrays two different ways of grieving was spell bonding and heart breaking. Max is a powerful alpha male with a larger than life persona, but more than that, it was the realistic and totally relatable way in which Jane Blythe showed Max’s lack of coping with his grief and guilt. Watching these two characters finding the evil that ripped their family apart after ten years and working together to bring them to justice. All the while, realising their feelings had never changed. Again this was totally relatable and realistic. They had their own thoughts and feelings about their past and it was worked through with angst and tears, which for me added a very real concept to this story. Jane Blythe is such a talented author. She not only brings her characters to life. She opens the door, inviting you to step through so she can introduce you to new friends. I can’t wait for the next instalment. Utterly beautiful story. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. 5 stars is nowhere near enough to do this story justice.
She totally outdid herself again. This story had me so captivated I couldn’t put it down. So heartbreaking it brought tears to my eyes.
Raven and Max lived through the worst thing a parent could imagine. It tore them apart. Now there back together to bring down the evil that took there child.
“Sorry, sweetheart, no can do,” he said, that irritatingly sexy smirk she remembered so well curled up his lips.
“You're my midnight, my quiet in the storm. My peace.”
Danger is at there heals every step of the way. Max will protect her with his life. Raven is a strong capable woman who’s not gonna be left on the sidelines.
Always and forever. To the end of the milky way and back. Around the moon and up to the stars. And brighter than the sun.
I would have rated this 4 🌟 but I didn't like the romance and I didn't like the book until they get to the compound to stop the sex-trafficking auction. I want a romance where the couple actually falls in love. Max and Raven are still fully in love. They've been divorced about 9.5 years but not because they had differences. Their 3 year old daughter was kidnapped while Max had her st the park. He left because he couldn't live with his guilt. So, they don't even fall back into love, they just pick up where they left off. There is a bit of drama involved in that, but it wasn't about their love or attraction.
I love that Max is a PJ (air force special forces). It made it sound like he was still active, but he also seemed to control his own schedule, so I'm not sure about that.
Things towards the end get stretched beyond what is likely to be realistic during a helicopter scene, but no worse than in most action movies. A lot of it is Raven is a computer jockey. Jot a field op. I didn't even get the sense she was in good shape. But she pulls off some unrealistic physical feats.
Towards the end, there is a woman named Hope that helps Raven. She puts herself at jeopardy to do so. She does something else, too, but I won't say what so to avoid a major spoiler. However, that action ends up not being helpful. In fact, it may have caused more problems and have made Hope a target herself. The Oswald family now views Hope as so eone that helped something good happen, when she really didn't. It was something that Raven asked her to do, so it wasn't her fault. And it may or may not be what makes Hope end up in Columbia to set up book 3. The main bad guy in book 3 is partial to redheads, so that might have put her in the same position.
There are some plot holes aside from that. At one point, they say they aren't sending a Prey team toward the auction too early npbecause they don't want to tip off the set of bad guys who run the auction they are on to them. If they are watching Prey that carefully, they would still know they sent a plane once they did. They would also know what each of the Oswald siblings - the owners of Prey - looked like. There is absolutely NO way Raven could have gone in under cover to the auction without them knowing she was there. As the book progresses, you will understand why even more so. Even in book 1, they make a big deal about all the biggest baddies in the world monitor their business.
The grammar isn't clean. There is definitely some material that could be cut from each book. I've had to do at least a little skimming in all 3. I didn't feel the chemistry between these two MMCs. In book 1, I felt the sexual tension building, but the steamy scenes in all of the books are lackluster. They are obligatory and not worth reading. IMO, if there are sex scenes in a romance, they should help the reader feel more in the mood. If they can't even make the reader feel the need between the characters, there is no point in them being included. If you hate steamy scenes, these won't offend you. Through book 3, the only time a male/female body part is mentioned aside from breast is in a completely nonsexual way. There are some very vague terms used, like heat. Romances in 1900 probably were more descriptive (even outside of straight up erotica). Personally, I prefer some really hot scenes and find these disappointing but don't let that impact my rating.
I could really like these. I would prefer they be in first person, but her 3rd person is better than average (slightly). You are always very clear on whose POV it is. It doesn't change too often like it can in poorly written 3rd person books. I like having the POV of the bad guy, but can't remember if this book has that. The 3rd book does. I don't think this one does, because it's a set of men that run the auction. This series is a lot better than Susan Stroker's series and two or three others in this world I have tried. I like Riley Edwards best. Although, the thing that I like best about these books is they are mission heavy, where some of Riley's later ones got too light on that. Even Ms. Stroker's books were too light on mission. Riley's gold team series has the best mix.
If you have loved everything in the Ace OA world, you'll probably enjoy this series.
PROTECTING RAVEN is the second stand-a-lone in Author Jane Blythe’s second series in Susan Stoker’s Operation Alpha World. The Prey Security series covers the resourceful Oswald Siblings and if you’ve already read the first book then you’ll know that Eagle is the oldest and CEO of their family’s security company.
Once started, there is no putting this book down. It captured and held my attention from beginning to end. Raven’s story is sad and intense. She had lived through some horrifying events and was still standing, but it’s a life full of darkness with the smallest bit of hope beckoning at the end of a long traumatic tunnel. I had to keep reading because I needed to know if she would get that happy resolution. Although, anyone who is familiar with Author Jane Blythe’s romantic suspense books will know that there is no happy ending without a helluva lot of pain and suffering to get through first!
It seems Ms Blythe cleverly pulls the scourge of society together like a demon collection into her books, where they sprinkle pain and torment upon our beloved characters like devilish fairy-dust, and it takes the strongest of men and the most tenacious and bravest of women to come out the other side. And in PROTECTING RAVEN, it was Raven’s ex-husband, engaged under contract by Eagle, who was her protector on her almost suicide mission to find out what happened to their daughter. Hell, Raven still believed she eventually WILL find their daughter.
Even though they were divorced, the love and chemistry between Raven and Max was still evident, and it was in their rediscovered connection that I got all the warm fuzzy feels that perfectly balanced out the heavy plot subject that was sympathetically written.
Throughout though, Raven’s book speaks of strength, love, loss and heartbreak, having a purpose while fighting off the shards of despair, and in the forgiveness of oneself. Most of all, PROTECTING RAVEN is about hope because without hope there is nothing. Without hope, no one can find a way out of the pain and suffering, or be rescued.
And it is Hope that Falcon Oswald is looking for in the next book............ Absolutely 5-Heart-In-My-Mouth-Stars ♠️💞✶ #mumsalwaysreading #bookblogger #bookreviewer #marnsreads #marnsj
Protecting Raven is yet another fabulous story, one of hope, determination and hard work. Raven might use her keyboard to fight the criminal element now, but in this story she showed how strong she is in every way. I think her character truly doesn’t have any flaws, well none that I could find, she’s terrific.
Max is one true alpha protector, who admits he made a mistake—and boy, was it a humdinger of a mistake—but trying to cope with that situation… well nobody really knows what they’d do until faced with it. Guilt is a very powerful thing and so destructive. Max is absolutely gorgeous in every way, too.
It always amazes me how this author thinks up interesting, and at times, disturbing situations with the evil characters, her creativity knows no bounds. I am in awe of her skills generally but these descriptions are second to none. As is the suspense in this story, talk about sit on the edge of your seat! Fantastic stuff!
There are nuggets of wisdom in every book I have read by this author and this one is worth quoting, ““You know the thing about wishes? They’re for the future not the past. You can't change what has been by wishing, but you can change what’s to come…” So very true and something perhaps we all should heed.
Jane Blythe has been a favourite author of mine for a while now but this book has solidified that sentiment tenfold. This book was heart wrenching and heartbreaking but it was a phenomenal read. Raven and Max have had to deal with the ultimate heartbreak as parents and even though they are not longer married they come together to find the truth regarding their devastating loss 10 years earlier. My heart was somersaulting in my chest with every page I read and the constant suspense literally had me biting my nails and on the edge of my seat. A subject of trafficking is any parent’s worst nightmare and Jane Blythe has handled it with professionalism and lots of details that show the amount of research this author puts in to her books. Very, very emotional I was stuck in some parts and not able to go forward without taking a breath and rebooting my mind. Keep the tissues handy as you are going to need them because this book with rip out your heart. In all of the books that I have read of Ms Blythe this is most definitely my favourite and the story line will forever be burned in my soul. An amazing series that I cannot get enough of. Highly, highly recommend these books.
I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This book now has me waiting for July, then, then, then ... What an incredible second book in Prey Security! Raven and Max, and CLEO'S, novel was completely moving. The realness of something we as a global society deal with every day, human trafficking, made this so much more. One, a mother's love knows no bounds, and never gives up. Years and years, Raven fought to find her daughter. Max, guilt, a parent's worst nightmare. Child abduction ruins over 50% of marriages, through many different ways. Max's guilt he felt for 2min in life that caused Raven and Max's daughter Cleo to be abducted. This destroyed their marriage, and while Max runs from the pain, Raven isolated herself always looking, hoping to find Cleo. But, Raven decides to dangerously try to recon to take down the ring, and Max is paid by her brother to go protect her. Now, this is where chaos and crazed begins. Terrific suspense, thrilling action, frightening real. An amazing novel!
I am totally addicted! Next is not soon enough! Book one hooked me, Book two addicted me to these terrific siblings! Soooooo ... NEXT ... !!!!!!!!!!!
I'm blown away by this story! Never underestimate a mother's love! Raven's strength, courage inspires me. She is a true survivor. Raven never gave up hope of finding the daughter that was taken away from her and Max 10 years ago! My heart broke for these two.😥💔 I can only imagine the pain and heartache, something akin to having your heart ripped out of your chest when your precious child is suddenly taken away from you. This story really gripped me, could barely hold back the tears watching Raven never giving up hope and Max's guilt overwhelming him to the point where he accepted his child was dead. Watching them go after the people responsible for taking their daughter had me on the edge of my seat! And one thing about both Max and Raven--they didn’t think twice about sacrificing themselves for each and for their child. My goodness, I can't wait to read the next book!
If you want fast paced, hard hitting action and edge of your seat suspense in addition to two people rekindling the love they had for each other, then Protecting Raven is the book for you. Jane Blythe has packed a lot in 280 pages including lots of spice. It's a thrilling ride at every turn of the page.
Raven Oswald is on what could easily be described as a suicide mission. She's going to make the human traffickers, who took her daughter, pay one way or the other. It's taken her ten long years but she's never given up. The only thing that stands between her and certain death, is her ex-husband, Max Hathaway. To say that she's not happy when he shows up and uses some high handed tactics on her would be an understatement. Maybe this quest will allow them to reconcile their grief and guilt and finally put them in the past because there's been no on else for either one in a decade.
A decade ago, Raven Oswald Hathaway and her ex-husband Max’s three year old daughter, Cleo, was stolen from a park. Raven never stopped looking for Chloe while guilt ridden Max sought divorce. When Raven recognized Cleo’s picture on an auction site, she aligned her resources and took off for Columbia to make the traffickers pay! Max arrives on Raven’s trail.
On the run from one of the world’s largest traffickers, Raven and Max revisit their past, try to reconnect and help devise a plan to close in on the trafficking ring.
Hmmm, this reader wasn’t a fan of the repetition; it came off more as ‘lazy’ than emphasis to my taste. Though not a long story, it felt longer than necessary, I’m not certain if I blame the repetition or the pacing for that. However, the plot itself intrigued. Rating: 3.75stars
Jane Blythe loves thrillers and Protecting Raven is a suspenseful thriller. We learned and were heart broken in the first Prey Securities book, Protecting Eagle, that Raven had lost her child 10 years ago but was constantly searching for her. In Protecting Raven, we learn more about what happened and how it impacted her and Max's life. I love how strong and determined Raven is and how protective Max is. You can feel all the emotions coming out of both of them, you feel their heart break, their anguish, their fears. You can feel their relationship grow closer, the love that never left, the determination to bring their family back together. Both grow stronger, each relying on each others strengths to get their HEA! I absolutely loved the book and highly recommend it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though it has some really dark subject matter. Raven has never forgotten her daughter Cleo that was kidnapped 10 years ago and has been working diligently to find the sex trafficking ring in Columbia that she is positive is responsible. Max has also never forgot his daughter but blames himself for her kidnapping and leaves Raven due to the immense guilt he carries. Raven goes to Columbia for a recon mission to see what she can find out about the Sex trafficking ring. Her brother Eagle sends a bodyguard to keep her safe and it is her ex-husband Max. Together they find a way to work together but he still believes their daughter is dead.
I am enjoying reading about the Oswald family and Raven is the second in the series.
Jane Blythe knows how to rip all the emotions out of your soul. Raven experienced devastating physical and emotional pain as a teenager. Then as a young mother she endures more heartbreak. I loved how strong Raven is. She’s a fighter and doesn’t give up. Of course with all the pain and heartache Raven has been through in the past, it doesn’t keep the writer from putting her through more turmoil. I love that although Max wants to protect Raven and act all alpha he recognizes that he needs to let her do what she needs to even though it puts her in tons of danger. The writing is incredible. The character development is rich. I’m eagerly waiting for the next book in the series.
Losing a child is the worst possible thing to ever happen in your life, but when it happens on your watch it’s even worse. Max blamed himself and walked away from Raven because of the guilt he felt. Raven never gave up hope that she would find Cleo or at least find out what happened to her, never did she think Max would show up to protect her or even help. Raven has been searching for a decade and with Max’s help they just might get some answers.
These two love each other and their story was emotional, heartbreaking, intense and steamy. I’m loving this series and Falcon’s book is next and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Amazing read.
Most books by this author have some inspiring element to it, but this book... I have no words. I'll let the fact it's been added to my top reads list speak for itself. Never ever doubt a mother's love and determination to fight for her baby, no matter how long it takes. But will they save her in time? Definitely have tissues ready. I'm keeping this review purposely vague as honestly this story should be read blind, as that way you'll get to experience all the gut punches and heart string pulling. As usual it was very well done and I was riveted from cover to cover. Already can't wait for the next one.
Oh wow! Another FANTASTIC story by Jane! This one is about Raven, Max and Cleo. This story is intense right from the beginning. Raven has been looking for her daughter Cleo for ten years and when she gets a good lead she heads to another country to find her daughter. Of course Eagle sends Max in to protect her. The story definitely has its intense moments. It will keep you on the edge of your seat plus you will definitely get tears in your eyes. Loved seeing Ted helping out. FANTASTIC job Jane! I would highly recommend this book! Can't wait to read Falcon's book.
Raven and Max. The story picks up immediately with Raven in danger, but not willing to back down as she is in pursuit of her daughter who was kidnapped a decade ago. Along the way her ex husband becomes her protector and Tex and Prey join together to go after the human traffickers who took her. Relationship dynamics are volatile with years of hurt and the human trafficking is vividly discussed. The questions about the daughter are answered and the set up for the next book is introduced in a touching manner. I loved the ending bc and the scene with all the siblings at the end had me in tears. Cleo is a vip and I hope she is in future books!
Well Jane has written another thriller. Our family favorite of birds.. has another mission. Raven has never stopped searching for her kidnapped daughter and she is willing to give her life to take the kidnappers down. Max her ex husband walked away because he felt guilty that Cleo was with him the day she got kidnapped. Max and Raven will have to work together to take down this sick people. Do they remember their love?? Do they found out what happened to their daughter? So much emotion in this book. You really feel the pain of the characters. It's a must read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book is about Raven's love for her daughter and how she believes she’s still alive after being abducted 10 years ago. It’s also the story of her break up of a marriage to Max, his guilt, pain and self-destruction. This story is full of danger, suspense, chemistry, passion, action, and more as Raven and Max try to work together to find the trafficking ring that stole their daughter. Can this be a second chance for them? Can they rescue each other while trying to find out if their daughter is alive? A fantastic and fast paced story.
A heartbreaking story about Raven & Max who's 3 year old daughter Cleo is kidnapped. Max leaves and divorces Raven not being able to deal with the guilt of Cleo being taken, while Raven never gives up hope of finding Cleo. Raven's quest for answers leads her to Columbia where she runs into Max. These two realize they still love each other, and work together to find answers about Cleo. This was such a great book. I could not put it down. It was very emotional and suspenseful. I can't wait for the next Prey security book
Raven and Max went through a horrifying tragedy when their 3 year old daughter was kidnapped. It tore their marriage apart. Raven never stopped trying to find her daughter and after 10 years has the biggest lead ever. Max is her bodyguard and together they deal with the despicable world of child sex trafficking.
It’s a road filled with horrors but together with Prey Securities they find a way into an auction and do their best to bring down an evil empire. Lots of difficulties during their journey. But Max and Raven rediscover their love for each other.
The strong women survivors in this book get all the stars. The cowardly MMC and his meh grovel gets one star deduction. If the separation had been shorter I may have been inclined to revise my opinion. I felt like the MMC did not adequately prove that he was interested in the FMC for the FMC's sake alone. He did not seek her out on his own and had to be hired to bodyguard his own wife. (Ex wife but whatever, they were practically loyal to each other just separated)
