I liked the book quite a lot.
Not because the plot is great. The plot isn't bad, mind you, it is good, but the ending left me a little unsatisfied.
But the main reason I liked it is it opened my eyes and got me interested in the history of my own state - of a place that is literally a couple of hours journey from where I stay, and I never knew about its significance.
All I knew about Bishnupur was that there are a lot of terracotta temples. But I never knew or felt the need to know about the history behind those, the tales that these temples had been hiding, and the stories of the dynasty and rulers who had patronized them.
One of the reasons that you want to read a historical novel is to learn about the history in a fun and enjoyable way through the unfolding of an interesting story. Dakat Raja is able to do that.
I am now looking forward to read and learn more about Bishnupur, but unfortunately resources are scant for that. It would have been great if the author had provided some references for further reading.

আমিও আজ শেষ করলাম ডাকাত রাজা।গল্পের শেষে সত্যি বলছি কেঁদে ফেলেছি।আমার মতে বীর হাম্বির এবং কালাপাহাড়,এই দুজন এই গল্পের সবচেয়ে মহান চরিত্র।বহু বছর আগে যখন ওড়িশা ঘুরতে যাই, কোনারক মন্দির দেখে খুব রাগ হয়েছিল,ভেবেছিলাম কি পাষন্ড এই কালাপাহাড়।কিন্তু তোমার লেখা থেকে কালাপাহাড় সম্পর্কে এত তথ্য জানতে পারি। পরে তোমার রেফারেন্স বই গুলো ও পড়ি।
ডাকাত রাজা শুধু একটা গল্প নয়,মানুষ হিসাবেও অনেক গভীর দার্শনিক তত্ত্বের শিক্ষা দিল আমায়।
বেশি কিছু বলতে পারার শব্দ নেই আমার কাছে।খুব ভালো থেকো দিদি,নিজের খেয়াল রেখো আর এভাবে আরো অনেক লেখার প্রতীক্ষায় রইলাম।

আমি আপনার নারাচ, দিওতিমা, ডাকাত রাজা, গ্লানির্ভবতী ভারত এই চারটি উপন্যাস পড়েছি। সত্যিই অসাধারণ আপনার লেখা। এত অজানা অনালোচিত বিষয় গুলিকে আপনি তুলে আনেন, যে দারুন লাগে। আপনার উপন্যাস পড়তে শুরু করলে শেষ না হওয়া পর্যন্ত থামতে ইচ্ছা করে না।

অসাধারণ এক উপন্যাস ডাকাতরাজা....পড়ে এতো শিহরিত, অবাক হয়েছি!! এমন বুনোট যে শেষ না করে তো ওঠাই যায় না....অবশ্য এই গুণ আপনার অন্য লেখার ক্ষত্রেও প্রযোজ্য...ডাকাতরাজা এক অন্য মাত্রার উপন্যাস!!! ধন্যবাদ আপনাকে.....আমার বাড়ি থেকে বিষ্ণুপুর খুব দূর নয়....অন্য চোখে দেখি এখন বিষ্ণুপুরকে.....

অক্ষয় তৃতীয়াতে কিনে,
কাল দুপুরে পড়তে আরম্ভ করেছিলাম আপনার 'ডাকাতরাজা' কাল রাত ১.৩০ এ পড়া শেষ করে এখন অফিসে যাচ্ছি।

কি বলবো বুঝতে পারছিনা।
'অসাধারন', 'অনবদ্য' সব কিছুই যেন কম বলা হবে।
মনের মধ্যে একরাশ মিশ্র প্রতিক্রিয়া কাজ করে চলেছে....

ডাকাতরাজা সম্প্রতি শেষ করলাম, এক অনবদ্য সৃষ্টি। পাঠক সাগ্রহে গ্রহণ করে নেবে। মন্দিরনগরীর অজানা অনেক কাহিনী সুন্দর ভাবে গ্রথিত হয়ে রইবে এই বই এ।

কিছুক্ষণ আগে পড়া শেষ করলাম ডাকাত রাজা। বাংলার ইতিহাসের বিষয়ে এমন অসাধারণ বই সত্যিই খুব কম আছে। আরো এমন বই পড়তে চাই ভবিষ্যতে।

Absolutely engaging piece of fiction.Lucid , captivating.
Writing about historical period , capturing it's essence is never easy. The writer does this smoothly. The ancient , forgotten period comes to life , with it's rich characters.
