Bombshell is the story of a topless dancer who dreams of being a cop, and the handsome Sheriff's deputy who falls in love with her. Marina "Shimmer" Hudson dances at the Whispers Gentleman's Club. Marina's patience wears thin with her boyfriend Matt the rare coin collector as she questions whether or not she truly loves him, and even more thin with the customers at the club who speak rudely to her or break the always enforced "no touch rule" during lap dances. With prostitution and scandal all around her, she cannot wait to finally realize her destiny of getting her badge and saying goodbye to this shady life forever. When the owner of the club is killed, Marina meets Deputy Graham Green, who promises to help her get to academy. But does Graham's haunting past deter her from accepting his help or will she succumb to the feelings of love that have been brewing all the while? And can he be trusted? With her loyal dancer friend Silver at her side, what will be Marina's fate?

Bombshell is a fascinating read. The characters are colorful and true to life. Jessie Terwilliger delves into the life of excotic dancing , as well as the police force, making this an interesting combo! I would definatly rate Bombshell 5 stars!

This isn't Jessie Terwilliger's first book however, in my opinion it may be her best.

Jessie Terwilliger's novel is written through knowing eyes. The story is realistic and gritty. The characters are people you know or that you'd like to know, in your own life.

I liked the fact that the book was partially set in a strip club, having strippers as characters, because of the novelty of it (at least for me, I think it's the first such book I've ever read). I have never thought being a stripper was the same as prostitution (nor do I now, of course), and yet the book opened my eyes in a way I couldn't quite put my finger on. I am old fashioned enough to have thought that being a stripper equals lack of morals -- right now I think being a stripper equals lack of opportunities way more (as in the book were quite a few girls, including Marina, who chose this career because they needed the money (Marina to pay her school, her friend Silver to raise her girl) and there was no other way to make them). It all of course gets down to "judge not lest ye be judged", a saying I try to live by, and parts of the book have helped me to do just that.

Marina is (of course) very good looking (although small and with crooked teeth :P ), and she has quite a temper too (but I like plucky heroines). She has a dream she's not afraid to work hard to follow, and I have admired this part of hers tremendously. As for Graham, one, he tells funny police stories (especially when it comes to his first days on the force), and two, he is quite endearing and comfortable to be with -- although he doesn't hesitate to beat people up when it's needed, hee hee. While their love story started a bit too sudden (at least for me), it became more and more believable with each page turned (so much so that I was sorry to put the book down when it ended).

My favorite scene of them all was the scene where Marina and Graham get back together after being separated for a while (not actually a spoiler, every book featuring a couple falling in love usually has them fighting for some reason and getting back together after a while so why wouldn't this one :P plus this happens at about two thirds of the book, there are plenty things that happen next). I felt it to be well written and... well, real, as they both were trying to get past the hurt and see if they can go back to where they were before. I was expecting some sort of "oh, you're back, come into my arms" and I was happy to get a scene a lot better than that :)

Ever since first seeing the title I was amused by it and by its double meaning: a symbol of Marina's "sexittude" (sexiness + attitude), but also a reference to the path she wants to follow in life (to be part of a bomb squad). The same symbolism was in fact represented by Marina's favorite belly button charm, a little silver pistol (that I was happy to see featured on the cover), a reference both to her life as a stripper (where the belly button would be seen) and her dreams of one day becoming a cop.

Bombshell is an unforgetable story. As a busy mom, I don't have much time to read, but I made time for Bombshell! The book is so fast paced and well written, I read it in three sittings (would have done it in one, back in the pre-baby days). It is an amazing story about unlikely characters whose paths cross in a crazy way. I was super impressed with the book, for so many reasons.

First, you can tell that the author put a lot of research and time into this book. There are so many specific details that do not necessarily stand out, but they add to the depth and believability of the book. I actually found myself thinking about the book when I wasn't reading it, and in my busycrazyfull world, that is something in its own. It is described as a book about a 'topless dancer, who wants to be a cop...' but it is all that and more. I thought I might be reading about the adventures of a stripper, rather I read about the struggles of a girl that is easy to relate to. No, I've never stripped or had dreams of going into law enforcement, but I have had crazy relationships: whirlwind love that comes out of nowhere and disappears into thin air and I have always wanted better for myself.

Very cool book. I cannot talk enough about it. The various plot twists keep the reader on the edge of their seats, and the ending is something that is unforeseeable. By the end of Bombshell, you will have developed a relationship with the characters and closing the book will be bitter sweet. I can only hope there is a sequel!

Read it! You will not regret it!

Bombshell is a very strong first fiction for new author Jessie Terwilliger. Marina, the main character, is a strong and interesting young woman who has had a hard life. As the story opens, Marina is having a hard time making it in the nightclub world as an exotic dancer. She wants to get out, and go into law enforcement, but she has a lot working against her. Terwilliger's dialogue is interesting and true to life, with enough "cute" to make you root for the characters, enough darkness to make the story compelling, and enough humor to make you laugh out loud.

Bombshell gives the reader an interesting inside look at nightclubs and a harsh look at the realities of working as a stripper. I'm looking forward to reading more about Marina.
