This was a really useful book, well researched and with lots of detailed photos and maps. I live in Edinburgh and still found out things that I didn't know about. The author has a knack for pointing out hidden items that most people tend to miss, particularly things on the ground or at height, and giving a concise history of those items.

This is not a book to read cover to cover, but its handy pocket size makes it a good choice to take with you when exploring the city.

This was a small, compact book with a beautiful design.

It features 14 short walks, mostly based around the centre of the city and one walk near the docks in Leith.

Each walk contains points of interest to look out for on your way, including historical buildings, monuments and other hidden details. Some basic information about each item is given- not enough to write an essay or article, but enough to feel like you've learned something as you flick through it on your way in the street. I found a lot of items I had walked past many times and never noticed!

I recommend this for anyone travelling to the city, and perhaps even for residents themselves who want to learn some little bits and pieces they may not know.
