Uzziah: Mountain Man: The Making of a Mountain Man: A Twentieth Mountain Man Adventure

Rate this book
The twentieth “ Mountain Man” adventure has arrived!

Even though they saved U.S. Deputy Marshal Vergil Higgins from hanging in Oro, Territory of Colorado, the boys are still being pursued by him. Not able to return to their cabins in order to keep their whereabouts unknown, they decided to go to Denver City and lose the deputy marshal. On the way there, they ran into a Crow hunting party, and before Higgins caught up with them, they dreamed up some skullduggery with the Crow to throw Higgins off their trail.

Journeying into Denver City, they resupplied and decided to go by the settlement to see Standing Bear before heading to the cabins. On the way there, they stopped at the Rainbow Saloon in Golden, where sitting at a back table, U.S. Deputy Marshal Vergil Higgins, drunk as a skunk, saw them and started shooting.

In spite of that, they made it back to the settlement despite Higgins, now a wounded man, in tow. Arriving there they find the Blackfoot have burned down some Crow lodges, and Standing Bear had fled to the safety of the caves, not too far away.

At the caves, they all reunited, then came back with Standing Bear to the settlement. Immanuel and Uzziah decided to spend the winter there. Then, the wounded man, remembering who he was, kidnapped Charlie, Standing Bear’s adopted son. The Crow, Immanuel, Uzziah, and Standing Bear pursued Higgins and ran into the Blackfeet who had been waiting in the mountains. A battle ensued, in which some Crow were killed, but in the end, the Crow triumph over the Blackfeet, their mortal enemies.

Uzziah and Immanuel take their wounded man, who was subsequently killed by the Blackfoot, back home to the western slopes to be buried, then returned to the settlement. Once there, Uzziah, disheartened and feeling like a fifth wheel, left for the cabins in the Rockies, as he was want to do.

Will Immanuel father a child with Standing Bear?  Will he and Uzziah only be friends through the carrier pigeons that fly back and forth between the cabins and the settlement? And who was that waiting for Uzziah, when he finally returned to the cabins?

Join the boys of winter as they continue to find that life will always be one step ahead of them, even if they do decide to settle down and become domesticated.
