Eliza Falls #1

Of Mates & Magic

Rate this book
If you’d asked me when I was a kid if I thought being able to control fire was on my list of Cool Things About Me, I’d have said heck yeah! Turns out controlling the elements is a little trickier than you’d think. Especially since a certain someone moved to town and threw my magic into a tizzy. He’s big, broody and sexy as hell. Just thinking about him makes my hair stand up and my fingers tingle. If only he’d talk to me instead of grunting and glaring all the time, I think I could talk back to him. But my magic is unpredictable and I can’t let him get too close, for his own good. It’s better for everyone this way. The moment I met her, I knew Cora was the only one for me. After years spent searching for home, I’ve found it in the cagey glare of a woman who lights me up inside and sends me into a spiral of longing. She’s brilliant, beautiful and as salty as a honey badger. Utterly perfect in every way. I just need to use my words and not grunt at her like a caveman whenever I see her. But my Wolf wants to claim her in very carnal and biblical ways. It takes all my energy to contain his enthusiasm, making for a lot of awkward interactions. Every damn time. But now that I’ve found her, my Wolf won't be satisfied until we build a home for her and she accepts us as Mates. I just need to control the beast inside me long enough to convince her to give me the time of day and earn her love. Of Mates & Magic is the first novel in a series of paranormal romantic comedies set in Eliza Falls, a kooky little town in the Pacific Northwest where magic is real and the locals are more than they seem.

Fans of Practical Magic and Juliette Cross's Stay a Spell series will enjoy this sexy, small town, paranormal romantic comedy!

Maggie Francis

Maggie Francis writes cozy paranormal romance. What’s that you ask? Why, it’s a lot like if Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the Gilmore Girls had a sexy lovechild. We’re talking hunky werewolves, sassy witches and a cast of other supernatural side characters that make you laugh as you witness the shenanigans they get up to and enjoy the banter that comes along with an overactive imagination.

Maggie started writing as a way to joyfully escape into a world where magic is real, heroines save themselves and heroes come with a tall side order of Yes Please. Eliza Falls is a place to let the worries of the world fall away and let the romance of a fated mate and the cozy connection of a found family swoon you off your feet.

Maggie lives in Victoria BC with her own Happily Ever After, a couple of rad kids and a doodle dog. When she’s not writing her next ridiculous romp, she’s hunched over her jewellery bench like a sparkly gremlin listening to inappropriate podcasts and dreaming up beautiful things.

She's a witch, he's a werewolf, and they're fated mates but they're both awkward AF.

Of Mates & Magic, the debut novel by Maggie Francis, was definitely an interesting read. It is the first novel in the paranormal rom-com series set to take place in Eliza Falls, "a kooky little town in the Pacific Northwest where magic is real and the locals are more than they seem." Cora is an Earth/elemental witch with wind and fire powers that she doesn't have total control over yet. Seb is a werewolf and knows he has found his mate in Cora. Too bad they're both awkward and can't talk to one another. Good thing they're both hot.

What I liked about the book:
1. It's quick! I love quick books, especially in December to rack up that books-read-during-the-year total!

2. The cover art is super gorge, but apparently Goodreads sucks so you can't see it yet, which is honestly a travesty....
Dewey

3. OKAY, Tate is hilarious! Please tell me him and Desi have their own story coming up???

4. The steam, or what was present, was decent.
CharlieDayThumbsUp

Why it didn't get 5-stars:
1. The first chapter of the book is like that episode of friends where Joey writes an adoption letter of recommendation for Chandler and Monica where he replaces every word with a "smarter" word using the thesaurus. Like, how many words are needed to describe a small scene? A chair? If you can get past this first chapter, it does get better.

2. When sh*t hit the fan in the last 10-15% of the book I started questioning if this was going to have a cliffhanger, and I honestly was quite upset. However, there was no cliffhanger....and that kinda upset me more! What's worse: a cliffhanger or a quick unsatisfying tie up of a late in the book problem? Apparently, this book answered that question for me.

3. There was a lot of repetition. It felt like whole sections of some chapters were merely copied and pasted into others to further describe the feelings of the MCs....we got it the first time....

Cora is a witch but she tries to keep her powers locked down despite her hometown of Eliza Falls being less than normal. Everything is going great until Seb and his brother move to town. There’s an immediate (and… growly?) connection between them. Will they ever face their truths and find their way to love? Let’s find out!

Read if you like: Adult paranormal romance, small town romance, Spicy spice, magical small towns, contemporary fantasy, dual POV, fast-paced novella, fated mates, witches and werewolves, creative and cute banter, low stakes, slice of life, grumpy/introvert, awesome side characters, connected stories series, an awkward couple finding each other.

Eliza Falls is cute and quirky. Tourists come for the views and the supernatural vibes that are more real than they might expect. Cora and Desi have their dream store. Life is good. Except Seb has been intensely staring at her for a year. Weird. And he’s super-hot. Yay! She can’t possibly like this weirdo? Maybe, yes. And now he’s standing in her shop. What’s a witch to do?

Seb, and his brother Tate, moved to Eliza Falls to help out with their Aunt Jett. They love the small town with supernatural vibes and scenic forests. It helps a lot when their wolves need to run. Its hard to be a werewolf these days. They’re blending in just fine until Seb meets Cora and his wolf only wants one thing… to claim her as his Mate.

This book is the cutest thing ever! I love paranormal. I love small town romances. Who knew that I needed a magical, small town, low stakes, ADORABLE romance series. Maggie Francis that’s who. This book gives me all the warm and fuzzy vibes with a slow burn inferno that turns into some spicy deliciousness. I want to live in this down and go to their shop and the bakery and stroll through the forest. The book was super fast-paced and some descriptions were repetitious and cumbersome. Their ::ahem:: romantic talk was a bit silly, but they are super awkward so it fit. The ending was brief. But nothing could distract from this charming story and its warm, gooey center.

Thank you to BookSirens and Maggie Francis for a copy of this book for review.

The first half of this book? Slice of life, Practical Magic smalltown coziness perfection. The second half? Eh not so much.

The slow burn was so tangible and on point and tension was THROUGH THE ROOF but then... then they hooked up so fast that I thought I'd accidentally skipped a chapter or two 😅
There was also some weird (and unnecessary) repetition in terms of pov description as well as hmmm very cringy smut. Though it's probably the fact I'm kinda ruined for sweet wannabe dirty vanilla smut..? Yeah, probably that.

BUT!! I really really dig the atmosphere and sweetness that the author created with this world and I hope they won't rush things because of plot and give us the chance to breate it all in next time 😊

side note: aunt jett is my idol. also if tate and desi don't end up together im gonna be soooo... sad.

(thank you booksirens for providing me with a free copy in exchange for my honest opinion)

Super fun plot. I LOVED The Practical Magic reference, which had the same beautiful, small town, witchy vibes. The two main characters were not as “grumpy” as the description made it sound and I was glad, they both ended up being quite likeable. The side characters were very cute and I’m hoping they’re the next book in the series!

The plot timing brought the book down. It just didn’t read in a smooth-flowing sense. I felt like the first 2/3rds got a bit hung up (and repetitive) on the main characters' thoughts/feelings. Then the last 1/3 felt like it had two “climaxes” which left me feeling a bit lost on where the book was ending. I thought we might get more of a wrap-up on the characters dealing with their family “issues”.

Thank you to the author and BookSirens for the ARC!

This was such a cute read, I don't normally read small town romances. Cora and Seb wouldn't admit their attraction to each other, but finally came together. This was such a fun and fast-paced book to read

This was such a cute, quick read! I had fun reading about Seb and Cora and would definitely read more from this author/series. I wish we had more scenes with Seb and Cora at the end! I liked how they were both shy, quirky characters and when they finally came together I was so happy. While the nicknames from Desi were fun, I would’ve liked to have seen either: a) every nickname be different and more whimsical as the book goes on or b) sticking to the same 2-3 whimsical nicknames and not using them as often.

Overall, this book was a fun “hot wolf summer” read for me and I’m glad I got to read and review it. Like I said before, it was SO quick and perfect for my mood. You get to have some Wolf/Witch fantasy fun without a long book commitment which is needed sometimes.

I wanted to like this so much! The beginning had a tone to it I wasn't so sure about but it settled around chapter 2 or 3 and some oddball phrasing ("flamingo-haired siren" or "salty glue"), but I'm a sucker for small town magic, happy endings, and a cute romance. I liked the main character well enough and the love interest was fine, but all the characters were rather flat and felt more like stereotypes (sunshine, bright, extroverted brother and the grumpy broody one for instance, and Desi was criminally underused). Their world also wasn't fleshed out a lot so I didn't get to appreciate the small-town vibe as much as I was hoping. My biggest reason for giving it 3 stars is the story DRAGGED. There was lots of overthinking and overwriting in scenes. People froze to have paragraphs of thought while staring at each other in paralyzed anxious attraction that just got plain boring. All the action took place in three locations pretty much. Also, there was a lot of hand-holding for the reader. There were a lot of moments when the reader should infer information but the author spells it out painfully: "He snorts a little breath, like he is surprised maybe? Like he doesn't expect me to accept him. Like maybe people don't let him in and he expects me to run. My heart cracks open for him a little more at that thought, because I do that." Readers don't need this written out for them. His snort of surprise, the slow relaxing into her, the mirroring of their behavior based on their respective family backgrounds, that tells me he wants to be accepted. As does his whole loner background and a million other hints before this. Writing it out pads out a scene and turns my brain off.

Overall it's a cute, mindless, slow but short story that might be an appropriate beach read for someone. I liked the magic incorporated into it, it was light with a happy ending and sometimes we all need that. 3 out of 5 stars.

Paranormal romance and small town romance lovers feast your eyes upon this book! Do you love slow burn that goes spicy?! Do you live for books with magic, fated mates, grumpy/shy, and shifters set in a uniquely magical town in the PNW? Read this book! I love all of the above so this book had it all. I loved the pacing and that there weren’t any moments stalling the plot especially since my last read dragged so much I had to DNF. I chose to ARC read this book for Book Sirens and the Author after two friends who ARC read it, said it was fantastic and that it’s the perfect read to get you out of a book slump! After just coming off a big slump and having this one fix all my bookish problems, I absolutely agree! So glad I stepped into Eliza Falls!

Our FMC Cora is immediately lovable, and happily playing along with no real magic here nothing to see here vibes in her small PNW town that pretends it’s got not so real magic…when it is in fact real! I get all the Practical Magic vibes I love! She is a pink haired witch/shop owner with her bestie Desi. She’s shy and awkward which I really related to (and the pink hair!) and I really love the banter between these magical BFFs, especially when Seb comes a staring! And Seb?! Hot, shy, unsure why he is drawn to this town after much roaming, searching, with still so much to figure out about his direction in life…but maybe a certain someone….might be where he has always been headed! I loved that both characters had a well fleshed out back story, and I definitely could have had more of that world building, but I expect it will be there in the rest of the series. Their romance is a collision, and I can see how some might feel like it was fast but got me I enjoyed his that was paced given the magic systems. All in all a great start to a series and opens the door for so much!

Let me say spoiler free the vibes are both cute and hot! And destiny? Destiny has the steering wheel with both hands and is about to make a sharp right turn so hold on! Pick up this fantastic quick read that will launch you into the Eliza Falls series! You won’t regret it!

Thank you Book Sirens for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

I really wanted to love this book. The cover art is beautiful and part of the reason I wanted to read this. I loved all of the Practical Magic references. I was craving that kind of small town, witchy vibes. Unfortunately, this felt younger than it was meant to and it ended up feeling like an online fanfiction I would have read when I was in 9th grade.

The start was strong but the plot was weak. Not much happens. I get that the book's main objective is to narrate the relationship between Cora and Seb, but there is nothing else going on. There are really no other subplots to follow. It didn't help that the first 50% of the novel is Cora and Seb being painfully awkward. But that's apparently cute and endearing because they're both smoking hot.
It ended up being super repetitive and boring in descriptions and scene-set ups. And then they are magically cured from being awkward and instantly have sex. The sex scene was cringe-worthy. I hated their dialogue during that scene. Cora was cursing Seb out while telling him to start giving her oral, and I just felt uncomfortable. The dialogue really just took me out of the moment and I had a really hard time rooting for them. Then the third act conflict happened and I was done with the book. The third act conflict was unnecessarily dramatic and I hated it. It was also wrapped up so quickly that it all felt pointless. It felt like the author just threw it into the story to try and spice up the plot before the book ended.

Also, and this may just be me, I hated all of the nicknames Desi called Cora throughout the book. I just wanted her to pick one and stick with it. The constant use of different nicknames like “beautiful Cupcake”, “BabyRuth”, “SweetTart”, etc. in the same conversation was annoying and felt unrealistic.

Overall, this isn't a bad book, but it's not for me. I feel like it could have been executed in a better way and more fleshed out.

Thanks to BookSirens and the author for an eARC of the book.

If you're looking for a fast paranormal romance, this is the book. It's short, the spice be spicing, and there are a lot of laugh out loud moments with the witty banter.

Eliza Falls is such a cute little town, and if you've been following my reviews you'll know I'm a sucker for a small town romance. The charm the author created was top notch and I really enjoyed it.

While a lot of the same things you see across a lot of werewolf books are here (my inner wolf, he's my wolf et cetera) there was a lot of comfort in it. In a world that is unpredictable, it's nice to have a level of predictability in books. I really enjoyed that here.

As well, I deeply enjoyed watching Cora and Seb fall in love. While Seb knows that Cora is end game, it takes her a minute to catch up. In the end the HEA was well deserved.

Also, let's not ignore the cover art. Gorgeous!!

Overall, highly recommend this! (Also, support indie!)

Woof. This was so cute. As a lover of Practical Magic, witches, small towns, and sweet yet gruff werewolves, this really hit the mark for me.

Short, sweet and spicy. Quick to the point. Funny, tangible characters who were fleshed out even in a short novella. The main character has pink hair and daddy issues (join the club). What else do you need??

The only reason this lost a star is because it’s all italicized? I’m not sure if that was in error or on purpose but it stressed me out unnecessarily lol.

This was a very promising introduction, I can’t wait to read what the author dreams up next in the quaint Eliza Falls!! I would love to see a story about our dear Desi 😏

And thank you to oomf who introduced me to BookSirens! I received this ARC in return for my honest review. Thank you 💖

Edit: forgot to mention how much I love this cover… I LOVE this cover. Like a lot. Ok bye

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! A quick romance read with a shy broody man & a quirky, cute woman. There isn’t much world building (because you don’t need it here) but in the short pages I fell in love with Desi, Cora, Seb and Tate!
I saw a few reviews regarding this book stating it was for middle school.. absolutely NOT. There is spice I would give it 🌶️🌶️/5 on the spice level. Definitely a quick little read, but it left me so so excited for book 2 and very happy!
I would call this a cute & floofy contemporary romance with supernatural flare!

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the exploration of the relationship between Cora and Seb, with the slow burn for the first half and the steamy bits in the second half. I also appreciated that the magic of this world was pretty easy to understand and straightforward. Almost the entirety of the plot was centered around Cora and Seb’s relationship, and I think having something else to go along with it might have added some more dimension to the story. There were also some editing and grammar errors that were somewhat distracting at times. I would still enjoy reading further books in the series, though, which is a very strong positive.

This is a quick and cute read written in dual POV of our main characters Cora and Seb, I love dual POV because I want to know the emotions, thoughts and feelings of the other characters, especially our love interest, this is done really well and I really think it does add to the story.

This is the first book, so as expected introduces you to the characters and world we are in, I loved the characters, both main and supporting are fun, interesting and you want to know more. The chemistry is sweet and spicy, and their journey to romance is adorable . They are brilliant together and I can’t wait for more from this series.

After spending 1/2 of the book wanting the main love interests to actually be able to communicate beyond a grunt or a glare, everything thing seemed to crash together, literally, and rush the last portion of the book. The characters were compelling enough that I wanted to find out more about them, but there was more that could have been done development wise to round them out. I would like to know more about the family of our mmc but to me that mysterious part about him is what compelled me to keep reading. There were some cute scenes between them and I related to the fmc and her best friend.

A very nice, lighthearted entertaining novella. The characters were funny and very likeable. I wished that dissolving the characters' issues would have been more at the centre but I guess I'll find out more in the sequel.

I really wanted to love this book. The start is strong, with likeable characters and a mildly interesting magic system. But, I missed the plot. I get that the book's main objective is to narrate the relationship between Cora and Seb, but after some characters, it becomes very repetitive and boring; it was hard to get through the last 30% of the book.

Is not a bad book, but I feel like it could have been executed in a better way. Nevertheless, I would love to see more works of the author and see how she evolves.

Of Mates & Magic by Maggie Francis

Of Mates & Magic is a perfect serving of short, sweet, and just right spicy to kick off Hot Werewolf Summer. Cora and her best friend Desi are witches who run a local metaphysical shop catering to both magical and mundane customers. Sebastien (Seb) and his brother Tate are recent transplants to Eliza Falls, a magical little community where the magic is more than just it's small town charm. Oh, and did I mention these brothers are both smoking hot werewolves?

When Seb catches Cora's scent at the farmer's market soon after they arrive in town, his wolf clocks her as his mate. Problem is, he's nervous about revealing his Werewolf nature to her and proceeds to bungle pretty much every encounter with Cora for the next year. So smooth. Meanwhile, Cora's magic goes haywire when she's stressed or worked up, and her crush on sexy, aloof Seb only heats up when Desi hires the brothers to build shelves for their shop.

I liked the dual POV in the book, and watching Seb and Cora dance around each other was funnier with Tate and Desi pushing then together with the "Now KISS!" push that comes from those who love you and want what's best for you. I almost picture them on the sidelines with a bowl of popcorn, taking bets on how long until Cora and Seb realize they're both totally into each other.

While the story was short, it was still a slow burn romance. But once Seb and Cora got out of their own ways, they came together with quite the bang. The "third-act" wrench was a really unique plot twist, and I love that it was resolved with the support of the small pack/family they've built for themselves and is a stepping stone for their growth together as they both navigate this new world of being mated. I can't wait to find out who the next Eliza Falls story will center around!

I received this as an ARC from Book Sirens and am leaving a voluntary review.

This was a delight from page one! I think Maggie Francis has great potential, this is her first book and her writing is fresh, adorable, sincere and funny. Each page seems to evoke warm sunlight spilling into the little shop where this story mostly takes place.

Cora is a pink haired witch, which I love, and she's very sweet, shy, reserved and terribly awkward around guys. I don't know if I've ever related to a character more!
Seb is a kind, good hearted werewolf but his anxiety around Cora makes him into a grunting, frowning caveman and he gives her all the wrong ideas about his true feelings.

This is exactly like a Hallmark romance movie, it's got an adorable little shop run by best friends who like the handymen guys who work nearby. It's absolutely adorable, it's cozy and cute and Francis completely captured that sweet little friendly town feeling that Hallmark gives us. There's not tons of action and adventures, this is two magical people slowly opening up and bonding over shop renovations and yet it's not slow or boring. The author also stays out of the trap of writing too 'trendy' or coming across as forced.

I almost never laugh at paranormal romance books but I was giggling and snorting a lot in this one, it's really funny because the characters are so awkward.

I loved all the characters, they're all so cute and alive! I loved how Tate always says 'Dude' and stuff like I do.

This was just extremely wholesome, cute, fun, relaxing, cozy and special. And there's steam too! Not until after 50%,but then there's some yummy scenes! This book made me slow down and was a great change of pace, character types and style to the usual angsty, action packed PNR genre. I honestly can't wait for the next one!

THIS IS A ARC REVIEW, and may have spoilers.

This adorable HEA, centers around Cora, Desi, Seb and Tate. Core and Desi, are BFF’s who just happen to also be witches. While Seb and Tate, are two shifter werewolf brothers.

Maggie does a wonderful job at building a small town that you would want to not only visit but live in as well. Each character feels real, and fleshed out. And I quickly fell in love with each one of them, ESP Aunt Jett. Once you read it you will understand.

There are times, that it feels like you are getting information a second time, but that is more due to the dual POV. It goes back and forth between Cora and Seb. So, you may read one chapter from Cora’s pov, to then get some of it again, but from Seb’s point of view. I can see where that could get repetitive for some people, but I enjoyed seeing it from both POVs, even with the overlaps. Seeing how each one sees an interaction, reminds us all that nothing is ever black and white.

I really hope you all check this one out.

Really enjoyed this book! It was a quick read and the story flowed easily from chapter to chapter so it was hard to put down to take a break.

The story follows Cora (a witch) and Seb (a werewolf), two supernatural creatures who are drawn to each other with a surprising pull they can't ignore -- despite getting off to an awkward start, due in part to the intensity between them.

The characters are funny, real, and so relatable in their awkward moments! I thought the author did well evoking a small, quirky town in the Pacific Northwest and I could easily picture the characters in their roles there. The contrast between Cora and her best friend Desi was reflected in the contrast between the two brothers, Seb and Tate -- one more high strung and one more relaxed, in each case, and I thought this gave the characters a good balance.

The spicy scenes were most excellent as well! And I ain't talking about Cora's tea blends 😏

Overall this was a delicious snack of a book! 5 stars!

4.5 rounded up to 5!

This was a very cute story about a witch and a werewolf, both are whom are extremely introverted and socially awkward :) it takes months and months of dancing around and hesitantly talking and then eventually hanging out for them to get together, and the whole process was executed really well!

The first 75% was basically like drinking a warm coffee sip by sip. It takes a long time for the two MCs to get to know each other and become comfortable with each other, and I found it to be really sweet and wholesome.

The last 25% had a lot of steam, the third act conflict and the eventual hea :) I would've appreciated a few more pages at the end, because I felt that the conflict wasn't really talked out completely (and given how complete the first part of the book was, I would've liked the same at the end too), but it does end with a hea.

This book definitely had the quirky, fluffy vibe mentioned in the blurb and I really enjoyed it! I look forward to more books by this author! ❤️

I received this ARC through BookSirens.

The delight I felt when I read this book! Of Magic and Mates mixes some of my favorite parts of Twilight and Practical Magic. Plus the protagonists are hilarious, unsure of themselves, and total goofballs? Then add sexy sex?! Yes, I am so in.

Of Mates and Magic tells the story of a witch, Cora, who co-owns a magic boutique with fellow witch and best pal, Desi. Cora meets Seb, a hot, broody, and very awkward werewolf, and after some missteps, sparks fly. This is the type of fantasy I love. Just real people, living mostly normal lives, but they can do magic and/or turn into wolves.

The story is told through the alternating perspectives of Cora and Seb. I loved that the interior conversations of the protagonists were so realistic. Second guessing every word, sure they are making a mess of things. In a word: adorable. The whole thing was adorable! And I fully laughed out loud a few times.

This is the first book in a series about a small, quirky, magical leaning town and I know I will devour whatever comes next.

"This is a Magical Paranormal Romance series"

This story is funny, exciting and so much fun to read.

Cora and Desi are two spunky and funny witches. They run a magical Boutique together. They are different from night and day. Where Desi is fun and out going. Cora is more anti-social.

Sebastion aka Seb , and his brother Tate is new in town. The brothers are sexy wolf shifters. These brothers are also different from night and day. Where Tate is positive and flirty , Seb is Broody and Grumbly. After Seb seen Cora he had been caught staring at her. It takes him a year of this to finally. Work up the nerve to speak to her!

Another awesome character in the story is Aunt Jett. This is the elderly lady Seb and Tate live with. She is quirky and funny.

Cora & Sebastian
*
Sometimes meeting your true mate doesn't go very smoothly.
*
Cora has earth magic which she doesn't completely control. She owns a small shop with her best friend. When two hunky brothers come to town all she gets are grunts and barely strung words from Sebastian. And she is no better!
Seb is a werewolf and when he meets his Mate he doesn't know how to act and approach, scared he will push her away. But that results in both being awkward with each other. Which is supercute by the way! Both characters being flustered not knowing what they are; but knowing they are attracted to each other.
Little do you know that those two socially awkward peeps turn into the dirtiest ones when together. It's a complete 180° and I LOVED IT! Such a cute read! Also I can't wait to buy a paperback to put it on my shelf.
*I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily gave my honest opinion.

This was a pleasant surprise. Usually I read paranormal romances when I want a light, quick read filled with a lot of unrealistic facts ! I did find all of that and more in this book.

It's not your a typical mate story with insta-love/lust, at least not for Cora. There is some attraction, but nothing that seems magical. The paranormals don't immediately recognize other paranormals and the wolf shifters seem to have a lot more control when faced with their mate. I only read a few stories where the main characters didn't mate rapidly if not instantly, and then it generally is because of dramatic circumstances.

I liked the characters and not only the main ones. I loved Seb's wolf, he seems like another person and their interaction is fun. Aunt Jett is pretty special too.

There were a lot of fun moments, some even hilarious.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

SPOILER WARNING
The cover of this book perfectly set the vibe for the story. The characters are good but I think they needed some more character development.
The plot itself could use some work. In the first few Seb chapters, he talks about how he’s looking for his parents but we don’t hear much of this throughout the book. Also, Cora and Seb got together way too quickly without the ‘filler’ chapters in between to make it more realistic.
The writing style is pretty good, there’s a lot of potential here, however the characters are a bit too self-aware which feels more like a fourth-wall breaking rather than their own personalities.
Overall, it was a good book but there’s room for improvement.

I was able to get this ebook for free in exchange for an honest and critical review.

This is a great start to the Eliza Falls series! It is a quick an easy read packed full of humor, steam, and romance. I want to live in Eliza Falls! It has such a great small town feel and is the perfect place for some magic. The character development is excellent and Seb and Cora have great chemistry. The side characters bring so much life to the story and I’m really excited to hopefully see more from them! There are some some loose ends, but hopefully they are cleared as the series goes on. A really great read that I’m excited to see more of! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Cora is a pink haired earth witch that opened a store full of magical and not so magical trinkets and blends at the town of Eliza Falls and Seb is a werewolf that moved to Eliza Falls with his brother in order to take care of his grandmother's best friend and ended up opening a construction business.
This paranormal romantic comedy gives you all the feelings. It is a light, fun, with a sprinkle of angst thanks to the main characters' backgrounds.
The world that Maggie Francis built is so heartwarming and all the characters are so rich that I debated with myself between devouring the book or savoring until the very last epilogue.
