My boss can barely stand five minutes with me.

But I wake up wearing his ring.

We had two goals for this business trip: to land a major client, and to make it through forty eight hours without killing each other. So far? Only the client is a sure thing.

Because we wake up together, hungover and half dressed in my suite. So many questions. Such a freaking mess.

And I only remember snatches of last night. Giddy, colorful glimpses of dark clubs and a chapel and–oh god. Did my grumpy boss really lick tequila out of my belly button? Say it isn’t so!

It can’t be real. Must be some horrible prank.

Because he hates me. Doesn’t he?

Woke Up Wed is a short and steamy enemies-to-lovers romance, starring a repressed CEO and the assistant he’s determined to divorce… soon. Eventually.

I usually really enjoy Cassie Mint’s books but this one wasn’t for me. I never felt any connection to the characters. I think we needed some pre-Vegas chapters to make it work for me. It was a quick audiobook, I just needed more development, even for a novella.

This blurb is so misleading it's upsetting. It claims to be an enemies to lovers romance when it's absolutely not. Unless the term enemy has changed definition just for this novella? The synopsis also makes the heroine appear like she's agitated by waking up from a hangover with a ring on her finger: ''Say it isn't so. It can't be real. Must be some horrible prank.'' When right from the start she is the one poking fun, teasing her boss and being a brat.

As you probably guessed, this novella is a bit of a remake of the movie 'The Hangover', only, Effie wakes up married to her grumpy boss, Guy (hate that name btw). The title was very straight forward, yet, I expected something different and not cliché. Since they don't remember the night, they decide to go in search of answers by retracing their steps from the moments that they remember before the blackout.

I'm going to be honest, I read a story not too long ago, about a boss and his employee who marry each other in Vegas. The thing is, I greatly appreciated their story more because it was more coherent and not so cliché, they were friends and secretly were attracted to each other before the events. The couple was drunk but they remembered most of the night and their whole adventure was hot and fun. They were mostly cognizant. They wanted to get married and get divorced the next day. They just wanted to do everything in Vegas; like a bucket list. Here, it just felt so unoriginal. First and foremost because blackout nights in Vegas is such a cliché...and after doing some research, only a few clicks to be honest, it was easy to find that it's illegal to marry under the influence of a drug (which was the case here). Most, if not all, white chapels in Vegas would probably refuse your request if you don't seem aware of what you're doing. So, just with this premise, I already felt annoyed.

And then, there was Effie. She was so irritating. The relationship she had with her boss was very odd. She acted like a brat, was making unfunny jokes and comments all the time, liked to jest him and get a rise out of him just because. Who does that? I'm not too sure if it was meant to be cute but her attitude was aggravating. I didn't like her at all. She was immature and exasperating. Some of the things she said just annoyed me, I'm not sure why. I felt very bitter towards her attitude.

This is all so dumb, and I’ve been laughing this shit off all day, but now that we’re here, and we’re going to find out if we’re really married, and maybe even start talking about divorce or annulment or lawyers…-Effie

Guy Coltrane can’t divorce me. My heart will shatter into a thousand pieces and he’ll see.-Effie
Boo-fucking-hoo.

I’ve always had small tits. It’s so bad, they used to make washboard jokes about me in college.-Effie
Of course, another small titties heroine. What's new? 🙄

I hate that he’s apologizing, gone so sad and solemn even as his hands stay on me. As if it’s his fault somehow. As if I’d mind. I’d be sad to have forgotten it, sure, but mostly I’d want to ask Drunk Effie for tips on how to make Guy Coltrane moan.-Effie
Okay, I get the idea of why she is saying that...but why in the hell shouldn't this guy feel the need to apologize? He possibly had sex with you when you weren't fully capable and aware, why on Earth shouldn't that worry him? ''As if I'd mind'' A normal person WOULD mind, feel concerned and anxious, even if it was a guy she was attracted to.

“You don’t fool me, boss man. You’re so basic. You love your virgin bride.”-Effie
How impetuous and mood killing, lmao.

Guy makes a wounded animal noise. Even in my haze, I make a mental note to tease him for that later.-Effie
Good way to put him off, make him self-conscious and make him end up not sharing his pleasure anymore. You're an idiot. Gosh she triggered me hard with this one. Not gonna lie, this reminded me of my ex who made fun of me for something similar. Teasing can be harmful. I wouldn't recommend it.

As for Guy (gosh, I hate that name), I somewhat liked that he was grumpy and serious. The fact that he was determined to divorce Effie made sense to me, because she was so annoying; and honestly he should've gone through with it. But at the same time, I wanted to enjoy the story. I wanted it to redeem itself and make me appreciate the romance. I usually prefer a hero who pursues the heroine and here it was the other way around. His attraction to her didn't make sense.

There was no chemistry, no connection. The romance was flat and at no point did I feel a spark that could've potentially become more between them. Their turnaround, from kissing to having sex to not divorcing was just jarring. The only positive thing I have to say about this novella would be that the writing style was decent and agreeable, like most Cassie Mint novellas. It's just unfortunate that the story was so underwhelming and unoriginal.

Would I recommend this novella? Honestly, I love Cassie Mint. She can write great and swoony romances but here, it was a flop. Don't waste your time. There is nothing innovative or enjoyable about Woke Up Wed.

Riding the Bull

This feels a lot like The Hangover, only better, with Effie and Guy Coltrane unable to remember their antics from the prior evening. Retracing their steps proves to be funny and interesting. And steamy!

Let it be known that I'd sell my soul for a hot, salty potato.

It was fun revisiting these two. Mechanical bulls, shady tattoo parlors, seedy bars, and all. 😄 It was a good way to begin my day.

Guy Coltrane has a VIP pass to my body. He can do anything he likes to any bit of it.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Tyler Darby and Lexi Evans, are really good. I like both of these narrators a lot.

3 stars. This was just ok… not bad, but I’m not overcome with feelings or emotions. This is a novella, so my expectations aren’t ever super high, but there were a few things that I didn’t really love about this story which is why my rating isn’t higher.

1. We start the story after they are married while drunk in Vegas. No backstory really about their working relationship for the past few years. Nothing besides hints at attraction between them, and some vague mentions of working together. I think it would have been nice for some better background.

2. The hero pushed the heroine away quite a bit until he suddenly folds and immediately flips the script. I just didn’t love that, I prefer the hero to be the main aggressor in the relationship. I understand that in the real world he wouldn’t be able to pursue her without being a bit of a creep, but in the book? I wanted him to make a bigger move than he did. He seemed to wait for her to make every minor move.

Overall though, not a bad novella. Just not great for me.

Safe; heroine is a virgin, age gap but unclear how much, no mentions of hero’s past at all, no om/ow.

I thought that this was a funny yet steamy book. Guy and Effie have wanted each other but because of their working relationship and almost constant fights, they believed the other hated them. Little did they know that all they needed was a night in Vegas and an accident to happen for their true feelings to come out. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it and Ms. Cassie as a great author.

Pure fun.

3.5 stars. I don’t know how Cassie Mint does it but she writes these fun, short stories with people I pull for. This one was a lot of fun. I would love to know more about these two, but it’s just a light fluff of a story with people who are backtracking what happened to get them married.

I really wish I could know them more but it’s like eating a bag of chips. A nice literary snack.

As always, the heroine is a virgin.

This one was light, sweet, and funny romance from Cassie. I liked how sassy the h and how uptight the H was. How both complemented each other. And the whole dynamic between those was sweet and fun and cute. It was like watching the Hangover but with romance style. The smuttiness was spot on though it was only on the ending.

Effie has been Guy's personal assistant for quite some time now. But things are a mess when they wake up after a business meeting in Vegas married! The two of them retrace their steps from the night before to figure out what happened to try and get a divorce. But they soon realize that a divorce is the last thing either of them wants.

This was cute!! I love how the two of them had been pining over each other for quite some time! This was fun and cute, and I cannot wait to read more books in this series!

Well, it was time for another Cassie Mint book. I was pondering and her last name is perfect for a way to describe her books. They are refreshing and like a breath of fresh air. They are very short but can be just what one is needing. I very rarely give five stars to books this short, not because I can’t love them; some I do very much, but because of their brevity, there is very little world building, an important component of any book. Character back history is rare as well as developed secondary characters. Though, come to think of it, it does take talent to make a story this short work so well and Cassie Mint clearly has the ability. But before I just worked that out in my head, I was going to give this one 5 stars anyway cause it’s just so darn cute.

Guy is the boss and Effie is his assistant. They are in Vegas for some kind of meeting with a client. Something wild and crazy went on the night before because when the story opens, Effie has a hangover from hell, her hotel room is a disaster, she has no memory of the night before and she hears someone in her shower.

It turns out the stranger in the shower is her boss Guy and both are horrified to discover the other. Guy is about as stuffed shirt as a guy can be, grumpy as hell and well, no fun to work for. To Guy, Effie is flighty, frivolous and always late. Things are bad enough but when they clue I they are married - well, that’s just a whole ‘nother layer of hell. They spend the rest of the book retracing their steps from the night before.

This book had me smiling through the entire story. Seems that underneath the layers of hostility, lay attraction and deep feelings for each other. This book is quick to read, adorable, fun and free on KU and maybe just free overall. I don’t remember getting it but I know some of her books are free. So if you get ebooks from Kindle, there is no excuse whatsoever NOT to get this book. It’s very well worth reading.

This was ok-

I actually really liked the writing- however I just wished that there was more to go off of (as we never got to see the characters meet or the general dynamic of their relationship).

It was just very vague in a way that I couldn't really connect with- but it was still alright.

Loved

I really enjoyed this story. Guy and Effie have secretly harboured feelings for each other for years. Guy has been attracted to Effie since she started as his assistant but hides his attraction by being gruff and a bosshole. Effie is attracted to Guy but she wants to strangle more days then not. The two wake up both having no recollection of what happened the night before and both are horrified to find out they got married. While trying to retrace their steps from the night before it gets harder for them to deny their feelings for one another. Soon getting an annulment doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Safety and Spoilers
Completely safe. No ow/om drama. H gets growly and possessive of the h a few times when because he is jealous. Nothing is mentioned about the H’s past. Don’t know if he hooked up with ow while h worked for him. h was a virgin. No abuse.

I need more.

This is one of those novellas that I really liked but I was left feeling like I needed something… more. I’m not sure what. Maybe of their office life or them working things out between each other. I guess it was just really good and I wish it was longer.

Also, Effie… not my favorite heroine. A little to wild and flighty for my personal tastes but not enough to really dislike her.

"Woke up Wed" is the story of Effie and Guy.

What happens when a boss and employee wake up married after their drinks get spiked? They trace clues, argue, acknowledge their attraction and cut to HEA.

It’s 68 pages… not bad, not good it’s a book. Despite the length there was space for multiple mentions of how big this man was and how tiny she was. I got it for free so I can’t really complain? The writing was solid even for a novella which I was pleasantly surprised by. But “Guy” might be the worst name for a love interest. How do you say that sexily?

Adored these two! I only wish it were a tad longer.

April 2022 review: Short but cute - definitely wish it was longer. Their chemistry is off the charts. Love how they admitted their feelings, lol!

~Effie always thought her boss hated her. Turns out Guy couldn’t stop thinking about her, he just didn’t want to cross any lines. As they retrace their steps from the previous night, Effie wishes Guy wasn’t so eager to divorce her.~

This was so good ! Love it 😮‍💨

I love love Guy Coltrane and Effie's dynamic - grumpy & sunshine.

The entire premise of them tracing back what led to them waking up in the same room, with no recollection of what happened the night before after their business meeting is so enjoyable !! So funny, so pleasant, and so angsty too.

Guy coltrane is so grumpy. A grumpy ass boss. Effie is such a sunshine. Whenever Guy accidentally acts likes a jerk and he sees Effie dimming and he realizes how an ass he is - my heart squeezed so hard. The angst was placed just at the right places.

They spent the entire day trying to find out how rheh accidentally got married in Vegas and ughhh I love it. How everything is slowly revealed, one thing at a time, and how both of their feelings come to surface ? And more angsttt? LOVE THAT.

Such a pleasant enjoyable quick read ! As expected from Cassie Mint 🔥

The couple: Guy and Effie

Romance trope: Vegas marriage
Series: Bombshell Brides
Length: 68 pages

Plot: Effie wakes up in Vegas with a massive hangover and a new husband. That's already a problem, but the bigger problem is that the new husband is none other than her boss, Guy, who is annoying and surly on his best days. The two begin to retrace their steps in order to find out what happened, and in the process, begin to look at each other in a new way.

Commentary: I did not believe in their love story at all. The two of them didn't seem to like each other until the very last couple of pages. Effie teased him a lot, but that seemed like her general personality, and Guy seemed to think she was attractive but didn't respect her much. I couldn't see the attraction between the two of them. They just annoyed each other. Then all of a sudden they were in love.

Next book in the series: Runaway Bride

I came for the filth and came away with the sweet.
But that's okay.
When the h is sassing the H with lines like this during foreplay:

I squeeze Guy's head between my thighs, grinning up at the ceiling. "You don't fool me, boss man. You're so basic. You love your virgin bride."

Yeah, I can deal with a decline in the smut department.
