When Amelia gets mad she doesn’t feel like herself anymore. She named her anger Angria.
Amelia wakes up feeling angry, and everything else that happens that day frustrates her. It seems everyone has advice to help Amelia feel better, but none of it works. At the end of the day, Amelia learns that to cope with her anger she needs to discover what makes her feel better.
For much of her adult life Angelia has been a sleepwalker. Although she has never done anything dangerous, like leave the house or drive a car, she has been known to get up in the middle of the night and change her clothing. She frequently wakes her husband with tales of mysterious things occurring, like lasers shooting around the room, spiders climbing up the walls, and even murals that move. Her experiences provided a lot of inspiration for the Somnium series.
Angelia’s parents have always encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone, particularly when it comes to doing things herself. Among the many DIY projects she’s completed are replacing plumbing, demoing a bathroom, and making furniture.
Angelia enjoys following in her grandmother’s footsteps by planting a vegetable garden each summer. She may not have the green thumb that her grandmother had, but with her daughter’s help she was able to recreate Thelma’s to-die-for sweet pickles using her own homegrown cucumbers.
Amelia sometimes feels like a different person when she's angry: she names her anger Angria. One day, nothing seems to be going right, from her clothing to her breakfast. Even though many people give her advice for how to deal with her anger, it will take a lot of coping strategies to get Angria to go.
This clever little book offers readers a variety of ways to deal with anger, but these lessons are hidden in a humorous story that's fun to read. The simple illustrations match well with the text. I'll be keeping this book on standby for the next time I'm in a kindergarten and someone is having a grumpy day.
