The Azure Kingdom
It starts with a dream.
When my mother died, I lost the last family member I had. The antique store was her passion, not mine. I’d rather spend my time reliving my dreams about the man who’s always just out of reach.
What my mother never told me was she was hiding something that would alter my life.
Not many people can say they have a key to another realm. Or that within the realm is the father they’ve never met.
That person is me. My father is the king in a land I didn’t know existed. I’m so using that key.

I have no idea why this had such good reviews - it was utter tripe. The writing was reminiscent of a kid learning how to construct a sentence. The characters were two-dimensional and the story was so rushed and unbelievable. I finished it because I thought maybe I was missing something and it would redeem itself at the end. Nope.

I don't know how this book is getting 5 stars.
I really wanted to like this book and I thought I would after reading the description. Then I saw the cover. My first thought after seeing it was this is going to be one of those books. Little plot, no growth, lots of lust/sex. Note: I'm not a prude I would just like to know what I'm getting into before starting a book. Someone used the words tripe and smut in another review and those perfectly describe how I feel about this book.
The book started off really good and I thought/hoped I would be wrong about the vibe I was getting from the cover. That didn't last long.
This is my reading progress and the thoughts that went with it:
01/27 29.0% "I really want to like this book but Alison is making it really difficult. I'm pretty sure she's trying to be sarcastic but she's failing miserably."

Alison fell completely flat for me. I felt no connection and honestly didn't like her. She's been dreaming of Luke and when she finally meets him it's like insta-lust for her and insta-love for him. Alison's insta-lust was weird and uncomfortable. Luke's insta-love was whatever.
There are way too many words in this book. There are descriptions about everything and they aren't brief descriptions. I could honestly care less about what a door looks like. It wasn't important to the story except for maybe the color of it but EVERYTHING in the AZURE kingdom was blue. Who cares? Not me! Also the way that this book was written felt like the author was writing for children. What I mean by that is super simple like the reader couldn't comprehend what they were reading.
The only story line I really cared about and was interested in was King Azures. I can't say any thing else because that would give away pretty much the entire book. But I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen to him more then what was going to happen to Alison.
I'm proud of myself for pushing through to the end of this book but I can't help but thinking I could've been reading something better. I have no interest in the second book. I don't even know who I would recommend this book to because I wouldn't want to waste anyones time.

It is a group of almost 30 authors, each one writing a book featuring a skeleton key that unlocks a secret world. But all of the books are vastly different. Different themes, different age groups and different sub genres. I just love that idea. So whether you like young adult, new adult or adult, you will be able to find a book for you. The Azure Kingdom is my favorite of the books I have read so far in the Skeleton Key series. It felt different and much more like a full length novel (because it was) than the previous two novellas I had read from the series. I also loved that this one had more of a high fantasy feel than a paranormal fantasy feel. The Azure Kingdom by Michelle Dare takes you to a fantasy world where kings and kingdoms are warring. I really liked that immediately there were knights from two very different kingdoms trying to convince Alison that she should be with them. I will admit that at the very start I was torn, but pretty quickly I jumped on board with team Luke.
The romance in The Azure Kingdom is excellent. It is all at once sweet and sexy. I am loving the Skeleton Key series more and more. I can't tell you how beyond thrilled I am that even though some of the books are on the shorter end, there are also longer stories in there. Thus far, I have been really impressed with the variety in these stories. And the covers. I love the key that is present on all of them, but other than that they are all very different, but at the same time they are very well done and fit very well together. The Azure Kingdom is the book to beat in this series. So far, out of the three that I have read, it is the clear winner. I can't wait to see what I think of the other books in the series.

First two chapters were intriguing
The book started off great but fizzled pretty quickly. To put it bluntly Allison was an annoying character. I liked her up until the point where she found a mysterious letter and went in search to see if what the letter said really existed.
Allison trusted Luke above everything but it just didn't seem real. Their declarations of love were corny and again I just didn't believe the emotions they felt for each other were real.
Some writers can make you believe in insta-love and you become wrapped up in how much these two people are consumed by the strong emotions they feel for each other. Michelle Dare the writer tried and failed which in turn resulted in me needing a nap and some eye drops from chronic eye roll syndrome.
Also I would have liked to read more differences between the realm where Luke lived and Earth where Allison came from.

Allison's reactions to things were weird or just dumb. A perfect example would be when Allison goes to meet her father King Pine. She notices her brother first and he noticed her too. Allison looks shocked by how much they resemble and she notices from the wide gape in her brothers mouth that he's shocked as well. He moves toward her with his arms out and Luke hits him in the throat knocking him to the ground. After getting up off the floor her brother explains that he loves her and always wanted to meet her and was only going in for a hug. Allison response is she smiles at him. Did she see Luke the guy she's known for two weeks differently no but she did mention that her man can knock someone down with one punch.
Allison purpose of coming to Azure was to meet the father she never met but when people she never met tells her that her dad is evil she decides to stay with them instead.

I don’t read many paranormal romances anymore, but when I read the synopsis for this one, I was definitely intrigued. A woman crossing over to another realm and literally running into the man of her dreams? Sounds too good to pass up.
Alison is a 23 year old divorcee whose mother died a year earlier from cancer, leaving her the antique store she owned. Taking over the store as a way to stay connected to her mother, she feels like she’s just wondering through life. When she discovers an antique box containing a key and a letter from her mother telling her about her father and about the portal to another realm, she barely thinks twice before going through the portal. When she arrives, the first person she sees is the man from her dreams, who has been dreaming about her as well. It would seem that Alison and Lucas are fated to be together, that is until she tells him her father’s name. Alison is left unsure who to trust: follow her heart and be with Lucas; or follow her mother’s letter and go to her father.
For a young woman, Alison was quite mature. She takes a giant leap into a world she knows nothing about and handles it all very well. I liked that she wasn’t one to go back and forth doubting her choices or decisions. She has some doubts about whether she can trust Lucas’ family, but she follows her heart and in the end it works out for her. I can’t remember a lot about Lucas as almost the entire story is told in Alison’s POV. What I can remember is that he is fierce, strong, protective and loyal…and he rides around on a dragon. That’s right, a freakin’ dragon.
As I said, THE AZURE KINGDOM is told in Alison’s POV, with the epilogue being told in Lucas’ POV. It comes with a HEA and at this stage it does appear to be a stand-alone, but I wouldn’t mind if it was turned into a series as I’d like to see other characters in this book find their soulmates as well.

The Azure Kingdom was my first trip to a far off land where fantasy is reality and I absolutely adored it. I'm now officially an addict for fantasy romance and seek my next fix. I have added all the other books in the Skeleton Key series to my TBR/Wishlist and can't wait to tackle them all. The whole concept of this series is brilliant! So many amazing authors writing their own tale that revolves around the elusive, mysterious and magical skeleton key.
After finding a letter from her late mother, Alison Wescot braves the chance at traveling to another realm. Having had magical dreams of a man too beautiful to be real, she ultimately learns that her trip to the Azure Kingdom was fated and Lucas Azure was truly a Prince Charming any girl would be lucky to have.
From the moment they meet, they feel the connection from their dreams and like moths to a flame they stay within each other's orbit for the calm and safety it brings them. Faced with a possible war between kingdoms and a choice of returning home, Ali is taken on a breathtaking adventure where dragons are as real and domesticated as dogs and the land is more beautiful than anyone could possibly imagine.
This was such a fantastical story and I was whisked away from the moment she walked through that hidden door...much like The Witch and the Wardrobe. This was a stunning and beautifully written story and I can't wait to find out where that skeleton key will lead to next.

The Azure Kingdom is an enchanting read that will have you wishing for your own skeleton-key.
We are introduced to Alison Wescot who is a young woman mourning the death of her mother. As she goes through her mother’s will she finds out that she has given the shop to Alison to take over. Instead of selling the shop, she decided to quit her current job and do what her mother has wished; by being the new owner of the shop.
She thought today would be a regular day like all the other’s, but today Alison not only finds a unique skeleton- key, but a note written by her mother about a secret she never knew about.
The only catch is that once she enters the other realm she may never be able to return back home.
Normally I don’t read fantasy books, but Ms. Dare has managed to not only intrigue me, but capture me into The Azure Kingdom! I even wish I had a skeleton- key! The story is action packed and the pace is steady while Alison goes on this journey. I love all the secondary characters that are introduced. But mostly, I enjoyed the love that blooms between Alison and Lucas. It’s genuine and a true case of true love.
I would highly recommend to anyone who loves true love tale.

The Azure kingdom is such a refreshing read, Michelle Dare stepped out of her comfort zone to write this Fantasy novel but I am so glad she did because her writing skills for this genre are completely flawless.
The Azure kingdom is a story of two realms colliding, Alison wescot is mourning the death of her Mom, tirelessly working away in the family business and dreaming of a knight in shining armour amongst Azure flowers, Ali is preparing to sell an item of furniture when she discovers her Moms best kept secret.
Left behind for Ali is a key that will change her life forever, but Ali must know that if she uses that key she may never be able to return to her previous life.
The Azure kingdom has a once upon a time feel to it, it's a book that shows how different realms live and features more than one true love story.
This was an action packed fast read and I just couldn't put it down, there were dragons, castles, family drama and of course a hot prince made fit for a princess.
An absolute must read and I really think Michelle has found the genre for her.

I was hooked from page 1. When Alison mother passes she drops everything to take over her mom's antique shop. When a customer looks into a dresser and that's when a box is found and what's inside has Ali thinking is their another realm. With an reoccurring dream of a field of flowers and a handsome man has Alison taking the key and opening the door to see what awaits her. What she sees she can't believe and she sees the man of her dreams. Lucas can't believe he sees the girl he has dreamt of. He wants her, to protect her but once she says she is looking for Rafe Pine, he turns cold on her until she shows him proof that she is telling the truth. When Alison's father knows she is there finally he wants to welcome her home as does Oliver who was promised Alison. But the King wants something from Ali too. Who can Alison trust Lucas the man of her dreams or Oliver the man that was promised her hand in marriage? I really enjoyed this story, the storyline had me hooked to where I had to finish the book in 1 day.

I don't read Fantasy books, I can't get into them, I avoid them at all cost, No Thank You pass. The Azure Kingdom landed on my kindle and I rolled my eyes, I only gave it a shot because I loved the cover , no lie I told my husband this one might be like pulling teeth for me, but I gave it a go. At 3:00 in the morning my husband rolls over like WTF why are you awake, Why because I couldn't stop freaking reading this magical, captivating, adventure of a book. I was blown away, had to find out what happens. I love a great insta-love and Luke and Alison was a perfect couple that just fit.I need a book for everyone now. All the Kingdoms need a story, This book has everything lots of surprises and twists and turns all because of a key. It sounds crazy but everyone needs to give this a chance. Michelle Dare has really shown me that she can do it all

This was a quite refreshing read which was fast and smooth paced which I really like. i haven't read this genre for long and after reading this, I want to read more seeing how much I have loved this book!
The author has managed to create a different place which is very intriguing and I want to read more about this world. I love Ali very much. Even though she was all new to this other world after getting the letter by her mother, she was never scared to speak her mind and accept the attraction between her and Lucas.
I love love Lucas very much! He was sweet, loyal and very protective of Ali. I loved their connection which started from the dreams!

A pleasant quick read. Although the main characters were clearly very into one another, there wasn't too much depth for any of the characters. There was only one bad guy (everything was pretty black and white) with everyone else being chivalrous and friendly. It could have been more dramatic, gritty or intense, but to be honest, I liked that it wasn't. The characters were sweet although I do need to warn you about some rated R love scenes (there weren't that many though so they didn't bog down the story) and some rare but intense lusting by our protagonist. There are also no major surprises, but it's written well and I would recommend this book between more intense reads or when you have a lot going on in life. I finished this book with a happy feeling and that's what counts.

So bad. I skimmed most of the way through this book. I honestly finished it because I kept thinking that SOMETHING was going to happen to redeem the novel, but no. The characters were two dimensional, the story was predictable, and the writing, although free of most spelling and grammatical errors, was just...not good. I will leave with this blurb.

Seriously? He wants to talk to me about tea right now? “Ummm…I have, but I don’t quite understand why you’re asking me about that at this very moment.”

This is a very fledgling feeling of a book. I don't know if this is the author's first work, but this definitely feels like the sort of book a very new writer might construct after learning how to outline their story and stick to the plot points without adding much bulk.
The Azure Kingdom is an incredibly swift, basic book. It boils a lot of common plot points down into very, very, very simple events and conflicts that happen and are resolved cleanly within a few pages.
In fact, all the major points of the book can be summarized in one paragraph of short sentences:
I think if you want a very simple, light, fluffy book without much substance at all, then this would probably be a worthwhile read. It's almost suited for 10-13 year olds except that it has sex scenes; imagine a book that basic and juvenile but with erotica and that's essentially what you're facing with The Azure Kingdom. It's a highly simplistic story with some smut tossed in to try to distinguish it as a adult fiction. In my opinion, I think the author's style is suited to a younger audience and she should hone in her focus there, rather than on writing 23 year old protagonists who are suckers for instalove and seem to have the magic ability to glide through major events like they're just a normal Tuesday.
Overall, a skeleton of a story that could have befitted from a more complex development of the points. I sought out Michelle myself, because I had been following her on facebook, and reading about her books, and I found them all enticing. I also ‘love’ her name. And so, I went to her on my own, and offered up my services, and she was ready for the ‘dare’ if you will. I allowed her to choose which book we would review, giving her the benefit of exposure.
So let’s learn about the “The Azure Kingdom” shall we?
Alison Wescot’s mother died, and left her an antique store. This didn’t impress Alison much, to her these were just lame antiques, and all she had left of her mother. She fidgeted around, looking at the items, and sulking. A customer came upon a box with a key inside, and a letter from her mother. Alison was puzzled, because she could’ve sworn she knew every inch of this store.
The letter from her mother explains of another realm, and the fact that her father never did leave her. Ali is baffled as she reads this, it is just so much to take in. This other world, the death of her mother, and now learning her father never left her. She is the daughter of Rafe Pine? The thoughts were just racing through Alison’s head. And the realm could be found in her mother’s closet. This seemed so unreal, like a dream, or even a fantasy.
Later that day, Alison races up the steps in her home, two at a time, to see if this even remotely real. And she learns the fake wall, is in fact real. She isn’t sure if she wants to, or even should do this. But we all know, eventually she will.
And the day Alison finally walks through the door, and enters “The Azure Kingdom” is the day her recurring dreams turn into a reality.
She meets Lucas Azure, the kingdoms elite guard and whose only purpose is to protect his people and their territory. Lucas is the youngest of the King’s four children, and of course- the deadliest. He knew once Alison appeared, he had to protect her at all costs. And he knew, one day, she would arrive.
This book, was everything I wanted it to be, and more. Which Michelle promised me, it would fascinate me, and satisfy my every need. It did just that, and more. “The Azure Kingdom” is a whole new style of read for me, and a definite five star read. I loved how the realms came into play, it was very unique, and would make for a great movie! I could so visualize this perfectly, and loved reading it, that I am certain I will be rereading it again, that is just how much I enjoyed it!

I haven't read much in the fantasy genre but Michelle Dare's, The Azure Kingdom, may change that. I have read all of Ms. Dare's other works and have enjoyed them greatly. It is refreshing to see an author step out of their comfort zone and try another genre. Ms. Dare weaves a beautiful tale where dreams really do come true, at least for Lucas and Alison.
Nightly Ali is plagued by dreams of a man she is drawn to and a field of blue flowers, little does she know someone else has similar dreams. Alison is alone after the death of her mother, who left her an antique store to run. Upon unexpectedly finding a key and a letter from her mother, Alison has a decision to make. The letter tells her of her father in a far off land and the skeleton key holds the promise of another life for Ali.
Lucas Azure is the king's fourth child and the protector of the realm; he also has dreams and is drawn to the woman in them. When the two meet, the chemistry is combustible. Lucas vows to protect Ali from harm, even though it may come from an unexpected source. Ms. Dare paints a vivid picture of the Azure Kingdom and the story flows from the page into the reader's imagination. Her characters are well developed and the pace of the book moves well. This author hits all the emotions in this book: anger, grief, fear, longing, love, and passion. Add another genre to Ms. Dare's repertoire. Hopefully, she will continue to write fantasy as well as her contemporary romances.

Fantasy, not what I usually read, but when one of your most favorite authors asks you to read the book she wrote and its fantasy, I signed up to read that book and I was surly not disappointed. The Azure Kingdom was an amazing read, I literally could not put it down, and when I realized I was at the end of the book I wanted more of Alison and Lucas to read.
Alison is struck working at her mothers shop, her mother has passed away and when she was dying her only wish was the Alison keep the shop running. What Alison did not know was that there was a key hidden in a box, hidden in a dresser that would bring her to a realm not of her own. This land is filled with kings and queens, princes and princesses and dragons, dragons that the people can ride. Not able to resist Alison opens the door using the Skelton Key knowing that she may never be able to return to our land. There she meets Lucas, the prince of the Azure Kingdom, and the attraction is instant, that is until Lucas finds out who she is related to in his world. Will old wars come between what Alison and Lucas may have or will it be to much for the people of Azure to get past????
This novella was over way to fast, the journey that we go on with Alison will remind you of what fairy tales (for adults) are made up of, and I really hope that this is not the end of Alison and Lucas's story, I'm sure we need more of the Azure Kingdom.

This book is the first one in a series of interconnected standalones. It can absolutely be read as a standalone, even though I wanted to read on and on and on after finishing.
I’m not quite sure how to express my feelings, since I felt as if I was missing something through the whole book. The characters were a bit flat and I couldn’t really connect with them. They were supposed to be in their mid-twenties, but more often than not I had the feeling as if I was reading a YA book, with teenagers as the main characters.
The writing style in the beginning was a bit monotone, with the same sentence structure over and over, but from the middle on it got better and more fluent, so I had fun to read.
The plot itself was nothing new, but the old ideas in a new package that was actually quite interesting. I would have liked a map from all the kingdoms, to see where they are placed to each other. Since it was not really a new plot there were few surprises and I have to admit, I was more intrigued by the other characters that appeared on the side than the two main characters. It’s a thing I often noticed with first books of series.
That being said, I can’t wait to see what other tales this author brings with the next books.

This was the first of the 28 book Skeleton Key series that I read. I had the best adventure and journey. There was no doubt that I would enjoy every second of this visit to the Azure Kingdom. The blurb to the book got me with not doubt it would be the first of the series that I try.
Alison was more than she could have every dreams she was. Her mother knew this and took steps to make sure when it was time she knew just how special she was. Lucas Azure was just the man to take her dreams to reality, in more ways than one. There was beauty in the Kingdom of Azure. There was a sexy romance, fierce loyalty, and determined pride.
There was a sense of a lost princess. The one she wanted. The one she was promised to. The fate of the warring kingdoms. The future of all. Oh my, I will most certainly read this one again. And again.

AMAZING!!! I love Michelle Dare and her work and this one is really really close to taking the cake on my other favorite she wrote. This story surprised me a lot, things I thought I knew were way off. I was surprised a lot in this book. I like the descriptiveness that she portrayed so I felt like I was really there and could envision it. I love romance and fantasy too but am picky with my fantasy books and this one had me captivated and hanging on to every single word. It was great, I truly truly loved it. Now a book 2 would be greatly appreciated lol. Oh and if the "tea" we're available in real life lol.

I really enjoyed The Azure Kingdom! This is a different genre than Michelle Dare usually writes, but I think she did a great job crafting excellent characters and a parallel world. While the plot focuses on Alison's discovery of this magical kingdom, there are a good amount of twists along the way to add even more mystery and romance!

I enjoyed the adventure this book brought on. Reading it makes it feel like it's a movie listing in your head. I love the instant and sting connection they feel for each other. I won't give away any details bit you must read this book and all books from the Skeleton key series. I know I will be. Thank you Michelle fir allowing me to read your book I thoroughly enjoyed it

This is the first book of Michelle Dare's that I have read and I definitely think that is worth reading. This book took on a whole new life for me. Her writing flows thru the whole book and it took me where you needed to go.. Thanks to Michelle Dare for an awesome book.

Lucas is a prince who is determined to safeguard the realm from outsiders and those who wish to do them harm. He feels an immediate drawn to Ali but finding out she is the daughter of his family’s enemy changes everything. He doesn’t think she means harm when she becomes a pawn between his father and her father will he be able to protect the woman he loves?
There is no denying the chemistry and connection between Lucas and Ali but dealing with the secrets and their families may be the biggest challenge of all. Being that there was only one narrator I thought she did a great job at giving each character their own identity. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession

Since I have read other novels by this author to say I was surprised is a understatement. This one shows her talent and ability to create. I do so love to be taken into the different with characters that can keep a hold of me there. I started with Alison as soon as she enters in with how it looks alot like her dreams, she had me by the hand. Then along came Lucas who sealed it to have me stay awhile and see what adventure the two would take me on. The things that are seen and shown in here will play with the emotions all with the love that is intertwined throughout. Refreshing things that are seen and done added to it also. And how about that key eh? fabulous teaser it was. It would seem it almost had a mind of its own too. So by the time I reach the end of this one I have been thrilled to just name one of the emotions but glad to have read this treat.

This book was really easy to read. It had great flow and the overall storyline was interesting. I really liked the fantasy and the dragons! It was interesting to read a modern day story with almost an antique feel to it. My only concern is the insta-love aspect, it didn't feel like it progressed seamlessly. This isn't the first book by this author and it definitely wont be the last!

3.5 stars. This book was pretty good. I like that the story took place in a different realm and I really like that there is a magical key that basically chooses who can pass realms. The downside of this book was the relationship was awkward and cheesy. I mean I didn’t hate it but it was just so uncomfortable to listen to at times.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I really enjoyed this book. It was very intriguing. Been awhile since I read something like this. I really got into Lucas & Allison's story. It kept me on the edge of my seat..couldn't put it down...
