Love in the City #4

The Love You Deserve

Rate this book
Follow an animal-loving bartender and her hot, protective boss as they finally give into the attraction between them in this emotional and steamy romantic comedy about healing the past to let love in.

Josie

I didn’t plan to fall in love with my boss. Cory Porter is six-foot-six of muscle and I fell for him the day he gave me a job in his bar. Too bad he’s twelve years older than me and treats me like a little sister.

Anyway, I’ve got other things to worry about–like saving my favorite animal shelter and fostering an anxious pup called Pretzel. The only problem is, I’m not allowed to have dogs in my apartment…

Cory

I shouldn’t have suggested Josie and Pretzel stay at my place. I’ve been fighting feelings for that woman for five years. She’s too young, too much my employee, and way too sweet for a guy like me.

But the more time we spend under one roof, the harder it gets to keep my hands off her–especially when she’s bent over on her yoga mat in our living room. Can’t a guy catch a break?

I know it’s selfish of me to act on this. I’m a committed bachelor like my father and will only end up hurting her. But now that I’ve let Josie in, can I become the man she deserves?

Here’s what you can expect from The Love You
♥ Steamy romantic comedy
♥ Dual point of view
♥ Age gap, boss/employee, roommates, mutual pining
♥ Sweet, loving heroine
♥ Protective, broken hero with a playboy past
♥ Cute dogs!
♥ Fun New York bar setting

Please note that this book contains sensitive topics such as parental abandonment, anniversary of a parent’s death, low self-worth, and adoption. It references infidelity, which occurs in the past, off-page, and not between the two main characters. It also contains cursing and sex scenes, and is intended for audiences 18 years and older.

This book can be read as a standalone, but it contains spoilers for the earlier books in the series.

Do you want to read an age gap romance between a sunshine dog-lover and the stoic man whose weakness is her smile? An undeniable attraction they have been trying to hide for five years, because both of them think it is not reciprocated? The final redemption when they have to live in the same place after a sequence of unfortunate circumstances? If the answer is yes, this story is for you.

“I give the best cuddles,” I joke, scratching under Stevie’s chin. When I lift my gaze, Cory is watching me, a tiny smile twitching at the corner of his mouth. He’s got such a soft spot for Stevie.

Unrequited love trope is my fav -especially when it turns out is not so unrequited. Reading a dual POV where they are both blind, Josie (h) seeing Cory (H) as the platonic, perfect guy while Cory spends half his day thinking about her, was everything I’ve ever needed.

How can you let my love in if you don’t think you deserve it?

Whereas the first half of the book was a delicious slow burn, I wasn’t a fan of the other half. I’m so done with heroes hurting the girl because ‘I don’t deserve her’ and ‘staying away is the best for her’. Although I liked how the author solved the problem - by asking for professional help instead of using miracles- there were too many pages lost with that.

However, my main problem was the ending. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say I’ve asked several people if they thought it was normal, and everyone agreed with me they would freak out were they in her shoes.

Първото, което ме привлече в The Love You Deserve беше корицата.

I read a lot of romances and that can make my review bar a bit too high. I need sweet romance and hot steam. Chemistry and longing. Positive female friendships and complex side characters. Good character arcs and multi-dimensional leads.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 has all of that AND positive therapy representation, complex family relationships, and cute dogs. I mean...IT. HAS. IT. ALL.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I never know how to quantify an "Age Gap", so I'll just say that the difference in age plays a factor in the relationship between Cory and Josie. He's her boss and a sexy AF bar owner. She is an achingly sweet pet lover (and vegan) and has a massive, 5-year-long crush on her boss.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cory and Josie are pure sizzle and the chemistry in this slow burn story is EVERYTHING. *fans self while tugging on shirt collar* 🥵
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 is much steamier than the previous books in the LOVE IN THE CITY series and, can I just say...YES, PLEASE and THANK YOU.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have loved each of the books in this series and each one gets better and better. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 is my new favorite!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This book does really well as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend starting at the series beginning. Just trust me!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 is a fantastic read! I read a Beta copy and then re-read the ARC...ahem...TWO more times. And not because I'm thorough. Because I loved this book!

Oof, I hated this so much. The only thing I can say is the author is a decent writer, but the characters and story were absolutely the worst.

My reasons I hated this:
1) Cory was/is a manwhore. Admittedly taking a different woman home every night, doesn’t remember their names, constantly runs into them because “how couldn’t I”, and continues to sleep around while knowing Josie (5 years). Then when they hook up, he is hot and cold and constantly stringing her along…just like her ex who caused her great emotional damage. Not only didn’t I like him, I actually hated him. He didn’t do nearly enough to make up for his douchey behaviour. And his reason for it all? His dad was a cheater and then he himself CHEATED on his high school girlfriend. So now, 20 YEARS later, he’s all “woe is me, I don’t deserve anyone good so I’ll sleep with anyone and not show any of them an ounce of respect”. Fyi authors..its not romantic when the hero sleeps with hundreds of women, if not more, and then says it was all meaningless. He is an asshole.
2) Josie - doormat and annoying and a freakin Mary Sue to the extreme. She is celibate for 5 years while he fucks everyone, then she pursues him and constantly runs back when he pushes her away. And when she finally FINALLY grows a spine to say they need to breakup, she goes around apologizing to his family for breaking his heart. He treated her like crap. He broke up with her and then after getting drunk said “oops no didn’t mean it”. Then she says its time to break up and she APOLOGIZES?! Oh, and while this is happening she nurses his hangover and spoons him in bed because the poor baby is clearly hurting. I literally screamed at this book. She also is just an all around idiot. She wanted a job at the shelter, but turned it down so Cory wouldn’t feel bad. Her dream job. Idiot. Then the only reason she was living with him is she had to leave her apartment to take care of a shelter dog. What a stupid decision! As if there were no other options for the dog but for her to upend her life for a month. I hated her too.

Both characters were the worst, the story dragged, and I genuinely wanted the HEA to be that they broke up forever. There is a reason I avoid manwhores and this shitty book was a lovely reminder.

Dual PoV with lots of cute puppy time and sweet interactions with previous book characters including my faves Geoff & Myles 🤗

Despite being older and the boss at work Cory has some growing up to do to, the authors choices in this regard I thought were well done and welcome even if it means the ending was sadly a little rushed.

Eventho I was hoping Geoff might get his HEA next, I'm not gonna pretend I'm not curious to check back in to see who catches Hippie Hayley's eye 🙃 and will keep everything 🤞🤞🤞🤞 for G

The Love You Deserve is the 4th book in Jen Morris’ Love in the City series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I think it’s better if you’ve read the previous books to get a better feel for the characters. You’re also going to revisit characters from the past three books.

Y’all, this book. THIS BOOK.

I was thrilled when Jen asked me to be a Beta reader. You're going to love Josie and Cory (and Pretzel)!

Jen continues to grow in her writing with every book in this series. It’s definitely the sexiest and most emotional book of the four.

I love these characters. Josie is such a sweetheart, but she’s also fun and flirty, and at times kinda dirty.😏

Pretzel is adorable and in some of my favorite scenes in the book.

All of Jen’s heroes have a little VIP section on my Book Boyfriend Island™️. Cory is the newest addition. I’m not a huge fan of playboys/reformed playboys, but Cory won me over by the end of it.

I love how vulnerable both characters were in this one and that therapy was a big part of it. They both feel undeserving of each other, for one reason or another, and really have to fight for their HEA.

Princess Bride is my favorite film and I loved how it’s encompassed in the book.

Overall, I loved it! Jen gives us everything we want in a sexy rom-com, all wrapped in a love letter to New York. I laughed, I swooned, I cried, and I didn't want to put it down.

A solid, quality read with adorable characters (including the puppy) and lovely New York vibes. My favourite in this series is still book #2 (with Cat and Myles) but I thoroughly enjoyed TLYD. It's exactly what we've come to expect from Jen – a warm-hearted story with heat/spice and realistic character growth. Enjoy!

Five years ago, Cory hired Josie to be one his bartenders. From the first time Cory saw Josie, he had been fighting his attraction to her. As her boss, Cory understands that nothing can ever happen between them. Until the shelter that Josie volunteers at is temporarily closed leaving Josie to foster a very anxious dog. However, her apt complex doesn’t allow pets. Cory offers up his place to stay. Can these two fight off their feelings for each other while under the same roof?

There’s something to be said about a New York City setting that makes romance novels more special. And this one was no different. This is the 4th installment of Jen Morris’ 𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝐼𝑛 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑖𝑡𝑦 series but can be read as a standalone.
This one is a story about learning to love yourself and believing that you deserve more than you do. Your past doesn’t determine who you are.

Boy, Jen Morris can write a great romcom with heat and humor. The Love you Deserve was STEAMY 🥵🥵🥵. Book is not intended for the young heart. The sexual chemistry between the two main characters was scorching right from the beginning of the book.
Cory is a gentle soul who covers it all under a playboy façade. He goes through a lot from believing he doesn’t deserve love to knowing his self worth at the end. I loved reading about his character development.
And let’s not forget about Josie. Josie is kind and selfless and underneath all of that is a sex kitten. Her determination to help others around her is what sets her uniqueness. These two stole my heart. Highly recommend.

The fourth book in Jen Morris’ Love in the City series is about the couple we have all been waiting for: Josie and Cory! Cory is a lifelong bachelor and bar owner who is quickly approaching 40 and still dealing with demons from his childhood. Josie is the much-younger star bartender that he hired on a whim five years ago. Their mutual attraction has been stewing for five years and when Josie gets put in a tough spot at the shelter she volunteers at and has to move in with Cory things begin to simmer over. This is a spicy book filled with lots of heart! Josie is such a sweetheart who cares so deeply for everyone around her, while asking for nothing herself. I loved watching her grow into a more confident woman throughout the book! Cory also showed so much growth as he fell in love with Josie and his vulnerability is both rare and inspiring. I received an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, and I definitely encourage everyone to go check it out on release day! This is a great spicy age-gap romance between two incredibly loveable characters! Perfect for fans of Chloe Liese and Lauren Layne. Be sure to check out trigger warnings before reading, as always!

I absolutely loved the story and the characters 🫶🏼 this book is so good, i did identified me with Cory and his feeling for being good enough and I was so sorry for him as he where at his lowest. The ending just touched my heart and I was so happy for them.

[To no honest I think we can all agree that the best character was Pretzel (the dog), he was the sweetest little thing 🙈]

This book is definitely in my top 5 books 👀

Jen Morris where have you been all my life!?!

I just LOVED Josie and Cory together. Their banter worked so well. I relish a cute workplace romance and Josie was just a great main character. I loved her big heart. She was such a wonderful match for Cory. There is much to enjoy in this one and I am so thrilled I finally got to this author.
Excuse me while I go read all of her other books now...

The story
Josie volunteers at the animal shelter by day and is a bartender in NYC’s Bounce bar by night. She walked into the bar five years ago after a bad break up and got talking to the owner Cory who offered her a job even though he wasn’t looking for a new employee. He is protective of her and she thinks he sees her as a younger sister. But Josie has feelings for Cory and hasn’t been involved with anyone else since she met him. Cory distracts himself from his feelings for Josie with meaningless one night stands. When there is a flood at the animal shelter and Josie needs to find a place to keep Pretzel the dog, Cory offers her to come stay with him. Things are never the same again!

My thoughts
I have been reading book one and three in this series in the last few days and Cory and Josie have cameo appearances in both books since Cory’s sister Cat is friends with the main characters from those books. This book feels like a richer story. The dual POV gives it more range and depth to explore the situation from both Josie’s and Cory’s perspectives and it works so, so well. I love how Josie is a ray of sunshine despite not having had the easiest of lives. I loved how both Josie and Cory are fiercely protective of those they love and passionate about things that are meaningful to them. This is a beautiful read! ❤️

I read an eARC copy courtesy of the author.

If you have read any of the previous Love in the City series, you’ve been wanting this story! Josie and Cory have been pining for each other for 5 years, each thinking that the other is out of their league.

Josie is the sweetest, a shelter-volunteering vegan with a heart of gold. And Cory is the sexy boss with more than a decade on Josie and a string of one-night stands a mile long. You have to love a good opposites attract!

When they finally give in, you have the sexiest book in the series! This book is an emotional rollercoaster… because it’s romance, people! But you know from the start that these two are meant to be together despite their differences.

This book, though, is so well-rounded. It’s not just sexy times with these characters, they have such a great friendship and they are really there for each other emotionally. I loved the mental health representations and how Josie showed so much growth and really stood up for herself when it mattered.

Loved this one!

I received an advance reader copy and these are my honest opinions.

Warning: This book is funny, steamy and involves cute dogs!

This is the first book I have read by this author and now I want to go and read them all! The Love You Deserve has such a unique plot line, and I love Cory and Josie. They find themself in hilariously awkward situations with each other when she stays at his place, a lot of them thanks to Pretzel the dog that made me laugh.

The relationship between them is so wholesome, even though Cory is a "committed bachelor" he has such a sweet side when it comes to Josie.

The book is part of a series, however can be read as a standalone, which is really easy to follow along with, you don't get confused by not reading the books before. But I will 100% be reading them after this!

There's also steamy moments between the two that make your eyes bug out of your head, and some scenes where they see things they shouldn't.

100% recommend!

Now that I’ve had time to process this book- OMG. This is without a doubt my favorite book of Love In The City series. Not to mention my favorite book of the year so far. The Love You Deserve features Cory and Josie and has:

-age gap
-forced proximity
-boss + employee trope

The Love You Deserve is book 4 in the Love In The City series. Cory and Josie appear in the other books so to watch really their evolution and tension build - I would recommend reading in order. With that said, it could be read as a standalone without any issues.

When Jen Morris said this was the steamiest book yet - she was not kidding. This book was steamy, spicy and absolute perfection. It left me panting and wanting more. 5 stars - can’t recommend this book enough.

I obtained an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest review of this book.

It's impossible for me not to like a romance novel with age gap, so the author had me hooked from the start. I also think her way of writing is pretty good, and I was really intrigued by the characters' trauma in their previous relationships.

So, why 2 stars? The reason for my dislike is that I simply do not share the same beliefs as her when it comes to certain topics.

First off, I think it should be a warning when you write something as triggering as this:
"You spend so much time at the gym. You'd get way better results if you cooked for yourself instead. So why don't you?"

Dear author, my question is simple: WHY?
I'm sorry, but we live in a world where eating disorders are a big concern. I, for example, live in a country with one of the highest percentages of eating disorders. One of the biggest lessons around this issue is that as long as you're not a professional, you should not question the other person's way of eating or exercising. Not cool and it really put me off.

Secondly, I absolutely loved Cory in the first part of the book. He had a good personality, was really attentive and charismatic. What more can you ask for?
But this type of comment really didn't make sense with his whole demeanor:
"I stare after her. I rarely sleep with women more than once, because I don't want them to feel attached"

Misogynistic much? One thing is if you don't want to get attached, another thing is blaming the woman beforehand and thinking like a misogynistic pig.

So yes, it wasn't really my cup of tea. But that doesn't mean is a bad book! It just didn't align with my beliefs.

ARC kindly provided by Jen Morris

A book title has never fit its content so well. This story was way deeper and heavier than I expected, but it was so well done. Jen has done an incredible job with this book being dual POV, and I strongly believe the story would not had been the same if it was single POV.

This is Book 4 in the LOVE IN THE CITY series and it’s Cory and Josie’s story. I really liked them from the glimpses we got in the previous books so I couldn’t wait for their love story. Omg, I envy Josie so bad. I think working at a bar in NYC takes a lot of courage, or maybe this is just my scared-of-everything self speaking, but the way she found her footing after what happened to her and her ex and thrived in a city like Manhattan by herself… she truly is a lioness, like Cory says. She’s also the kindest person ever. Her bond with Pretzel (best boy EVER) is adorable and so so wholesome!

Cory… my Cory. When I say I bawled during the entire last quarter of the book, I mean it. I wanted to put a hand inside my Kindle, bring him out and hug him as hard as possible. He deserved the love Josie was willing to give him, but also the love he should give himself as well, and I think the ending was perfect. I’ve said lots of times that I’m not a supporter of the third act break up, but in this case, I totally agree that it needed to happen and it was hard and sad, but super rewarding.

Once again, I recommend this series to everyone! Also, I can always count on Jen to satisfy my NYC cravings! I love living the city through her books!

This was not for me.

I loved the first book in the series. I jumped straight into this one after Love in the city and this one just didn't work for me. It just felt like a teenager's fantasy journal. The conversation these characters were having was too boring. I'm surprised it's the same author who wrote those beautiful dialogues for Alex and Michael. Descriptions like "she looked like a virgin on her wedding bed" were eww. I was put off. Cory was annoying as hell
One moment he wants Josie, he enjoys sex and immediately after that he starts saying ATROCIOUS stuff like "You deserve someone better". Big no no for me. If I were Josie, I would just run for my life. But Josie decides to stay back every time. (She does protest with words but she doesn't act)

Josie was too perfect with literally zero flaws. Kind, naive, pet loving, vegan who lets people walk all over her. There are guys hitting on her all the time. But but but she is stuck. She hasn't had sex in five years because she has only ever wanted Cory. All this while, Cory was busy bringing hundreds of women into his bed but according to him, he has always wanted Josie. Then he won't make the effort because he thinks he doesn't deserve her. Erm. This book would have worked better for me when I was a 16 year old naive teenager waiting for the love of my life. For an adult in her late twenties, this book is too unrealistic for me.

After a romance like LITC I expected something more mature and realistic from this author. This one felt like a half baked attempt with a trope that could have been so much more.

It’s such a cliche

You know it now, but I'll say it again... Jen Morris never stops surprising me. I want to marry her heroes, I want her heroines to be my best friends. I want to be part of this world and stay there. Her stories are simply comfort reads to me. Her Single POV style has always been one of my favorites because I never feel like I miss a single thing from the hero. The bonus this time? A magical dual POV romance that made me feel everything. Yes. This Dual POV was everything and beyond! Cory and Josie made me feel every feeling there is and I still can't stop swooning.

We've been experiencing Josie and Cory's sexual tension throughout this series. We already knew there was something else there but, dear Lord! I was not prepared for such a sexy and heartwarming story! Their chemistry, the care for one another, the awkward moments and all the healing that happened inside this book made this book so out of this world.

I have no words to tell you how much I loved Josie. She was the most selfless person ever. She gave her love and support freely and with all her heart. The way she loved and encouraged Cory and everyone who needed her was so wholesome. Her love for animals was adorable beyond words, especially her love for Pretzel. She was sacrificial and incredibly generous. I loved that it was exactly that generosity and understanding what ended up being the start of that healing journey Cory needed. She believed in him and helped him find a reason to believe in himself, but always putting herself, her heart and her needs first, even when it hurt.

"I might not feel worthy of her yet, but she believes I'm good and I want to believe it too. I want to be the man she thinks I am."

Cory was perfection, just as I was expecting. Navigating his mind and seeing his side of things was so intriguing and gave the story so much depth. He was such a protector, a broken hearted hero who believed he wasn't worthy of his own happy ending, even though he was craving it so hard. Ya'll... the way this man wanted and loved Josie was the swooniest freaking thing I have ever read... I felt like my heart was about to come out of my ribs with so much love coming out of this guy. His growth during the story was so inspiring, while he was focusing on helping her and making her feel safe, he was already allowing her inside his heart. Seeing him fighting his demons and working on his issues to make his life and relationship work and mostly was the most romantic thing ever and I loved the fact that he never gave up on Josie the same way he didn't give up on himself.

"You're generous, kind and caring ─you don't even know how much. You deserve everything."

Now, can we talk about how hot and delicious that sexual tension was? OMG! From page one, these two were burning. The awkward moments plus the endless little things that made them crave each other more, made this couple intensify their connection even more. Daaaaaayyuuuummm... I just love how good they were for each other in and out of bed and how they fought for one another, even when it hurt and when they thought everything was lost.

As always, it was so beautiful to see them along with the rest of the cast. They fitted so perfectly with everyone else. I loved seeing the other couples living their happy ever after, more additions to the family as well as the intrigue of old characters we have learned to love. My super special mention as always, to my dear Geoff. Who is by far one of the most amazing fictional friends ever written!

My heart is bursting with so much love because this wasn't just another Rom Com. I need you to read this book because the emotion and the healing these two characters experienced was so beautiful and lessons they learned will make you feel absolutely everything. I am not kidding! Cory and Josie will make you feel every single emotion there is. Their story isn't just romantic and sexy. It's the wholesome and inspiring journey of true love we all deserve.

I am incredibly honored to have beta read an early draft of this book and to have this ARC in my hands. So, a million thanks to Jen Morris for giving me this awesome opportunity. I will never get tired of hype up your books all over the internet.

I know I said that “buttercup” was cringy, but the backstory in here is really cute!

Moving on, this book surprised me! Like speechless, Jen Morris is a new author for me and I liked this book a lot!
I loved Josie & Cory’s chemistry, but at the beginning I did feel that both their actions were really childish, and it kinda threw me off but when I got to the 30% mark, I saw a shift in their behavior and I got hooked.

Josie is a people pleaser, she is afraid to ask for help and say “no” but as things come up, she starts to find her voice and begins to stand up for herself both with Cory’s relationship and also with her friends and co-workers. Also she is vegan!

Cory on the other hand has a lot of baggage due to his dad and things he did in a past relationship, I really struggled to like him at first because he was so hot and cold with what he wanted and what he said and did, but once you know like the reasoning behind his attitude, it makes sense. I liked how he was able to see that he needed help to heal and be able to fully accept his relationship with Josie, even if it took some time. (3 months or so)

Overall, I really liked it!!

Thank you to author Jen Morris for providing me and ARC in exchange of my honest opinion

“I climb into bed and spoon him. Even though he’s so much bigger than me, I can sense he needs to be the little spoon tonight.”

•• What’s this about? ••

Five year ago, Josie was completely heartbroken and unemployed. When she walked into a bar, she didn’t expect that the sexy owner offered her. During five years, Josie has had a huge crush for Cory. The problem is, that Cory is twelve years older than her and her freaking boss. Also, he only treats her like a little sister.

The other think Josie loves the most is animals. But now, the shelter where she volunteers is in troubles and she has to keep her favorite dog in order to him not being move to another shelter. The problem: Josie’s building doesn’t allow animals.

When Cory offers her to live with him during a couple of weeks, Josie knows that is a really bad idea. That is only to increase her feelings for him.

•• What do I think about it? ••

This is the fourth book in the Love in the City Series. It can be read as a standalone but you might enjoy it more if you read the others first.

I’m still not sure whether I liked it or not. This is a roomies, coworkers, age gap story about Josie and Cory (and Pretzel). And it has all of the tropes that I like, but Josie and Cory just drove me crazy with every stupid thing they did.

Okay, so the first half of the book is pure sex. I didn’t like how they tried to solve everything with sex. Yes, they have some cute moments, but most of it is while they build a toxic relationship.

The other half liked me a little bit. Both Josie and Cory had some baggage from previous traumas. I know that was a fat that affected their relationship, and I kind of liked how they managed their issues before hurt each other.

Cory was a character that I liked so much. Since the beginning he was really thoughtful and kind with Josie. I loved how he took care of her even when he wanted to hide his feelings. I liked how he faced his demons and understood that he needed therapy.

Josie wasn’t my favorite if I have to be honest. She lost all my respect since the scene in the shower. Yes, she had her good moments but most of the time she was just… I don’t know. Just didn’t like her much.

My highlights were: Pretzel and Inigo - the reason why Cory called Josie "Buttercup" - their friends - their secret kisses at the bar

Do I recommend it? Well, yes. It was really entertaining. It is so east to read and is a light novel. Also, it’s a story as hot as hell and if you want something steamy, this is the one for you.
I didn’t hate it, just wasn’t for me. But despite that I do enjoyed it. It’s a good read to pass the time.

I’m not gonna lie I picked this book up because of the cute pittie on the cover! But the story looked so good also!
We have Josie who has a Crush on her 12 year older boss Cory. She has worked at his bar for 5 years and for 5 years he has felt like her big brother. In this book we got both POV of Josie and Cory, and we find out Josie isn’t alone in her feelings for Cory. That he also has been pinning for her for 5 years but doesn’t think he deserves a true girlfriend and instead of doing anything about it he throws him self into a playboy world and treats Josie like a sister.
Intill one night when the rescue shelter that Josie volunteers at had some problems and she needs to take the dog she has become attached to home intill the shelter is fixed. Only one problem, her place doesn’t allow animals and she’s kicked out the minuet she shows up with sweet little pretzel and has no where to go. Cory finds her sleeping at the bar and insist her and the dog come to live with him. And that’s when feelings start to get harder to hide from each other!
And as this story goes on we learn about Josie’s ex boy friend and what he did to her and it was seriously heartbreaking and had me tears and we see how she really feels like a big burden to the world and Cory helps her see that she is a very well loved person by everyone and not a burden to anyone.
We also learn about Cory and why he thinks he doesn’t deserve love and I thought that part was so sad to, and even when he tries to push Josie’s away and thinks he doesn’t deserve he she won’t let him. And they both have great character developed together and separate. And the parts with Pretzel and animal shelter where so sweet and nothing more than I love than a big older muscle man loving a dog! 😊
This book was also 🥵🥵🥵 it really had everything! Age gap relationship, forced promixty, boss, dogs! And I absolutely loved it!!! Also that fire work scene 😍🥵🎇

I have been loving the Love in the City series, so I was so excited to receive an arc for book 4! This one is told from two pov’s - Cory, the bar owner brother of Cat (the protagonist of book 2), and Josie, the sweet bartender. Cory has a reputation as a bad boy. Josie has been in love with Cory since she started working at his bar - five years ago. When Josie is left practically homeless after needing to urgently foster a dog from the shelter she volunteers at, Cory immediately offers his place. Will this be the start of something amazing, or is moving in with your boss the worst idea in the world?

I’ve loved getting to know each of the characters in this series - both from the pov of other characters, and then from the character their self . The books are written chronologically too, so you pick up where you left off after the last book, which satisfies my cravings to know how the characters continue to live their lives!

There was a LOT of steam in this one - a little too much for me at times, but nowhere near as much as some books I’ve started! This was balanced out with a lot of character development, dealing with some large issues. This is what I love about this series - romance mixed with character development!

If you haven’t picked up this series yet, I highly recommend you do!

Thanks to @jenmorrisauthor for the arc! I can’t wait for the next instalment!

Jen Morris continues to be an absolute master at writing the most delightful books! The Love You Deserve is the fourth book of the Love in the City series and I have thoroughly enjoyed each installment. It featured some great tropes, such as grumpy/sunshine, age-gap and workplace romance, and it introduced dual POV, which was a great addition to the series. I was instantly drawn into Josie and Corey’s story and so enjoyed the genuine portrayal of the ups and downs they experienced throughout their relationship. Josie was an absolute sweetheart with amazing character growth, and it was so refreshing to see Corey openly expressing his emotions, fears and feelings. Jen continues to writes in such an eloquent way that both tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you in fits of giggles! Josie’s rescue dog, Pretzel, stole the show and was the most adorable and rambunctious canine, who totally captured my heart. I’m so grateful to have received an eArc and continue to fall more in love with this series.

The fourth book in Jen Morris’ Love in the City series is just as excellent as expected. I've been waiting for Cory's story since at least book two and it did not disappoint!

Cory is a lifelong bachelor and bar owner who is dealing with demons from his childhood. Josie is the younger bartender (love a good age gap!). Their mutual attraction has been stewing for five years and when Josie gets put in a tough spot at the shelter she volunteers at and has to move in with Cory things reach a delicious breaking point.

This is a spicy book filled with lots of heart, the perfect combo! Josie is such a sweetheart who cares so deeply for everyone around her while asking for nothing herself (something I definitely relate to). Cory's growth was great to watch, Jen is so good at writing great and believable growth.

This is a great spicy age-gap romance and I can't wait for more and more from Jen!

I received an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest review from Jen, thank you!
