Gone Away Girl introduced Chloe Ryder, a teen runaway trying to make it on her own in the cruel world. Now, as Chloe starts realizing her dreams, she begins to wonder if her life’s too good to be true. She’s made it into college, pursuing her goal to be a professional artist. She has supportive friends. Even a place to call home. But the biggest surprise of all: the former cynic is in a relationship with a guy more amazing than she ever could’ve imagined. As she falls deeper and deeper in love, she begins to let her protective walls crumble, one by one. But entrusting someone with her heart is terrifying, especially after she’s suffered so much loss. As she and the love of her life take their relationship to the next level, will Chloe be able to push past her fears? Or will she sabotage the best thing to ever happen to her?
Author of contemporary and fantasy YA, Juliette was born in Idaho but grew up all over, including overseas. She's wanted to be a writer since she was twelve, around the time when she won The Young Author's Award in sixth grade. In addition to writing, she loves reading, painting, travel, dogs AND cats (you really don't have to choose), exotic foods and indie and alternative music. She's written six books: When the Sun Kisses the Moon; Everywhere, Everywhere; Gone Away Girl; Finding Home; Pictures of You; and An ABC Book for the Despairing, Disheartened & Depressed.
I read Ms. Caron's first book, Gone Away Girl, and it was very good. I felt sad about it though. The girl went through so many trials; her mother dies, her step-father abused her, she ran away and was homeless, a boy friend abused her and the man she really loved was unavailable.
This second book ties things up. I loved the story. It was sweet and romantic, although like our own lives, there are problems and misunderstandings. We as humans miscommunicate with each other. But all is well in the end.
I thought Ms. Caron's writing has improved. The reading of it was smoother. Here is a paragraph I especially enjoyed, so I wrote it down so I wouldn't forget it: "The sun tucks a warm blanket around us as a gentle breeze runs its fingers through our hair."
Finding home is such a beautiful and welcomed follow up to Juliettes Gone Away Girl. It was such a relatable and at times heart breaking read with a satisfying and sweet ending. This book will definitely toy with your emotions! (In the best way of course.) If you enjoyed Gone away Girl (also a fantastic book!) then I can almost guarantee you’ll enjoy Finding Home just as much if not more! Can’t wait to read more from Juliette Caron :)
This story would appeal to YA/NA readers who like age gap romance, forbidden love, insta love and miscommunications.
Chloe turned eighteen, graduated high school, and has started college with her best friend, Mel. Damien, her former art teacher, is now officially her boyfriend but they still avoid being seen together in public, desperate to prevent any backlash on his career from him dating a former student.
This sequel was a fresh look at young love turning into serious commitment. It explored how to navigate complex family dynamics and new challenges as a couple.
I enjoy falling in love stories, but as I get older I find I am really drawn to stories about staying in love—growing together, working through problems, supporting each other in a new season of life.
I was frustrated by some of the repetitive miscommunication and conflict avoidance but I soon realized it was intentional. Chloe was frustrated by it too and the story took an interesting turn, exploring psychological/emotional attachment styles. It took a little too long to get to the final resolution but overall I was really invested and rooting for their happy ending. The sweet moments outweighed the turmoil for me.
Just like book one, the sequel was raw, emotional, and sometimes made me uncomfortable but had important messages about healthy relationships.
In the beginning of the story Finding Home by Juliette Caron, we’re introduced to Chloe, a girl in her early twenties that ran away from home and now has to survive on her own. She applies to college to pursue her dreams of becoming an artist. In high school, she fell in-love with her art teacher, Damien, who wasn’t much older than her. After graduation, Chloe decides to start going out with Damien in secret, and now they’re inseparable… or so we thought.
In Finding Home, Juliette Caron introduces a bunch of interesting characters who make the story more exciting and meaningful. The main character, Chloe, is a young girl trying to figure out who she is and how to move on after dealing with a big loss. Losing her parents definitely took a toll on her. She feels real and easy to connect with because she has both weaknesses and strengths while facing the challenges in her life. Other characters, like her boyfriend, Damien, and her best friend, Mel, help make the story even better. Each of them has their own persona and play a very important role in Chloe’s journey.
The mood of Finding Home is a mix of sadness and hope, which makes it really emotional and relatable. Caron uses lots of detail to help readers feel what Chloe is going through, especially when she remembers things from her past. As she faces her fears, the mood changes, and there are happy and heartwarming moments, mostly in her relationships with her friends and family. This mix of feelings keeps the story interesting and makes readers feel like they’re right there with her. Overall, the mood makes you think about how important it is to find where you belong and that it’s always easier to go through something with ones who understand and love you.
Suspense is super important in Finding Home because it keeps the story exciting and makes you want to keep reading. From the start, you get hooked on Chloe’s journey since you don’t know what’s going to happen next or what secrets she’s going to uncover. Caron uses cliffhangers and surprising twists that keep you guessing and make it hard to put the book down which is definitely a big thing for someone that doesn’t really enjoy reading, such as myself. As she faces challenges and her biggest fears, the suspense gets even stronger, leading up to a really intense ending where everything finally comes together. The suspense makes the plot more interesting and helps you connect with Chloe’s story, making Finding Home a very memorable and interesting book.
I would definitely recommend this book to someone who likes romance books with a lot of suspense and plot twists. I think this book is definitely a good book for someone who likes a slow burn romance or forbidden love. This book is full of heartbreaking and heartwarming moments, including some moments that I never would have expected. The suspense, mood, and characters are what really make this such a good book. I really enjoyed this book.
At first glance, everything is simple. Two people fall in love. They find out they cannot be together. She is a schoolgirl; he is her teacher. After going through an obstacle line (you can read about it in book one “Gone Away Girl”) they finally can explore their love.
There still are some inconveniences since he is still a teacher and she is still his ex-student. But in general, Chloe and Damien enjoy the joy and freshness of being young and in love. Until… real life hits them. The blow is unexpected. And both Chloe and Damien are unprepared to deal with it.
It was fascinating to read about how far a misunderstanding and miscommunication can lead two people who are madly in love with each other. Moreover, both are ready to make sacrifices for each other. But I guess, when you are young, it’s easy to set your blood on fire with jealousy, insecurity, and doubt.
I loved how vividly the author portrayed the differences between Chloe and Damien. It is clear, when you read the story, that these two come from completely opposite environments. And that is what makes reading about them trying to make their relationship work especially exciting.
Apart from complicated relationship issues, there are beautiful scenes set in Thailand in the book. After reading these chapters, you’ll want to take a bath with elephants!
“Finding Home” by Juliette Caron tells a story that must be enjoyed with an open heart. Its characters make rushed decisions, hurt each other, and because of it suffer themselves. This book reminded me how difficult it is at times to be young when, on one hand, your whole life is ahead of you, while, on the other, you don’t necessarily know what to do with it.
Finding Home is a very satisfying sequel to Gone Away Girl. While it helps to have read the first one, the author does a great job explaining the backstory, so you can tackle this one without having read the first. Caron excels at clever metaphors/similes, and immersive details that help you get in the protagonist's headspace and experience the highs and lows of her life alongside her.
There were some really juicy twists and plenty of suspense that kept me reading even when I should've been getting work done.
I like these characters enough to read more. Here's to hoping Juliette Caron makes a trilogy!
The first book was one of my favourite ones I’ve read this year so I was excited to delve further into Damien and Chloe’s story. However this sequel fell really flat for me. It was longer than it needed to be, I ended up skim reading a reasonable chunk. The main characters were just hopeless and their dragged out miscommunication in the second half of the book was infuriating and frankly boring. I loved both characters in the first book but I almost wish I hadn’t read this one because it really weakens them and I found them to be insufferable and wasn’t rooting for either of them. The storyline with Mel was just ridiculous too. Her loyalty should have been with Chloe since they were friends first. The FMC was a pushover and the mother in law story was just another semi pointless plot line too. The MMC should have stood up for his wife!

Loved this. A great follow up to a great first book. This was full of emotions and page-turning dramatic moments, along with parts that will have you eager to read faster. being vague to avoid spoilers! :) But, I'm seeious. If you enjoy drama, if you've struggled with communication and a relationship and want something to relate to, you'll like this.
I highly recommend this book(as long as you've read the first book. Which is also great and you'll love it as well!). I think it's overall a sweet story that will keep you entertained as you read.
I love all of Juliette Caron's novels and impatiently await each one. I loved Gone Away Girl and all the characters. I loved her first novel, Pictures of You and have read it multiple times. I look forward to reading this one. I'll return with an updated review!
Great follow up to Caron's Gone Away Girl, following the adventures (and misadventures) of Chloe and Damien in their romantic whirlwind that goes sideways. Love the author's prose, makes me feel like I'm there alongside the characters. Hope there is a third book in the series!
I really enjoyed the prequel (Gone Away Girl) to this book and was not disappointed in the follow-up. Very well written and emotional story. I highly recommend!
