I will love and miss you--until you can be mine again, like once in May.
This was a beautiful love story about a man who loses the love of his life, his wife and in turn loses his belief in love and happy endings but fate and his late wife have different plans.
On her death bed, Helene, makes her husband Julien Azoulay, a writer of romance novels, promise to write her 33 love letters (one for each year of her life) and leave them at her grave at Montmartre cemetery. At first, Julien's grief and depression prevents him from writing anything, let alone the promised letters but after six months, guilt takes over and he unwittingly begins the task at hand even though he questions the usefulness of it. However, as Julien begins to open up about his feelings, fears and hopes and pens them down in these letters, he starts to feel a change and slowly opens himself back to life, friends and even love.
The letters were really wonderful to read and are the best parts of the book. Reading them you can sense the process is proving cathartic for Julien by the gradual change of tone of the letters from sad and despairing to positive and hopeful. Although this is an English translation of the original French novel, I don't think the feel of the language of the original was lost at all; I could picture all the characters speaking in their own French manner of talking even though I was reading the book in English. The descriptions of the sights and sounds of Paris, the cozy cafes and bistros and the Montmartre cemetery make you feel that you are right there and if not, want to be there.

Qué preciosidad. Me ha encantado. Es una historia muy dulce, muy tierna, sobre volver a querer vivir y amar después de una gran pérdida. Αναμφισβήτητα για πάρα πολλούς λόγους ο Μπαρρό είναι ένας από τους αγαπημένους μου συγγραφείς. Γράφει για το Παρίσι μια πόλη που την έζησα κ την αγάπησα κ από τις περιγραφές του θυμάμαι κάθε στιγμή που είχα περάσει από κάποιο δρόμο. Η Μονμάρτη ήταν η κυριακάτικη βόλτα μου, ώρες καθόμουν στα σκαλιά της Sacré Coeur και χάζευα το Παρίσι από ψηλά. Για μένα αυτό το βιβλίο ήταν βαθιά νοσταλγικό. Έκλαψα στις πρώτες σελίδες κ έπειτα όπως κι ο ήρωας άρχισα να ξεχνιέμαι και να σκέφτομαι την συνέχεια, την τύχη του ήρωα Ζυλιέν. Σε αυτό τον βιβλίο ήρθα αντιμέτωπη με τον πόνο που προξενεί ο χαμός ενός αγαπημένου προσώπου, με τα στάδια που περνάς για να σταθείς να πόδια σου κ να φτάσεις στο σημείο να αποδέχεσαι την απώλεια κ να ερωτεύεσαι ξανά. Ο Μπαρρό καταφέρνει σταδιακά να απαλύνει από τα συναισθήματα και να κρατά τον αναγνώστη μέχρι το τέλος. Θα διαβάσεις γράμματα που θα μπορούσες να είχες γράψει, σκηνές που θα μπορούσες να είχες ζήσει. Αγάπησα κάθε ήρωα, κάθε λέξη του Μπαρρό.

Eine wirklich bezaubernde Geschichte,die mich im Herzen berühren konnte. Gerade die Szenen zwischen Julien und seinem Sohn gingen mir sehr nah. Das Ende war ein bisschen "over the top" oder eben einfach zu gut, da hätten mir Andeutungen von neuen Wegen,die bestritten werden mehr zugesagt. Aber trotzdem ein wunderbares Buch voller Liebe und Hoffnung.

The media information I gleaned on the author indicated that he is of both French and German descent, but his identity is a pseudonym. Nicolas Barreau is a rouse for a figure who is only known to his editor, his real identity is concealed for reasons unknown. I definitely found this fact intriguing! Another aspect that I found enlightening is the inspiration for the book. This is outlined by Barreau in the Postface, at the end of the novel.
‘The idea for this novel came to me several years ago when I was walking around an old cemetery one spring. It was not the Cimetiere Montmartre, which I chose for this book because I find it so unique. It was a small enchanting graveyard far from Paris.’
Being somewhat familiar with various locales around Paris, I was utterly taken by the setting and the quaint graveyard that is the stage for a significant proportion of the book. I could easily picture this locale, thanks to Barreau’s strong visual style of storytelling. It was a lovely feeling to be back in Paris, taking in the sights, the cuisine, the architecture, the people, the culture and the general way of life. I loved this aspect of the book.
Love Letters from Montmartre contains an interesting literary kickback device. The promise Julien made to his wife, to compose a series of letters presenting each year of her lost life, is sad but ingenious. Barreau handles the contrast between profound and deep grief, with a sense of hope. Bureau covers extensive emotional ground in his novel and he moves through the channels of loss with sensitivity, as well as insight. The healing power of the written word emerges as strong theme, touched with a little mystery. The support network Julien is lucky to possess adds further appeal to this tender-hearted tale. Love Letters from Montmartre emerges as a story filled with dreams and optimism for a future filled with new found love.

Λατρεύω τις ιστορίες αγάπης, πόσο μάλλον όταν "πλαισιώνονται" από ένα καθημερινό πλαίσιο...
Αυτό το βιβλίο ήταν συγκινητικό, τρυφερό και υπέροχο και μου θύμισε ότι, όπως λέει και ο Νικολα Μπαρρο, "η αγάπη είναι η απάντηση σε όλα μας τα ερωτήματα"

No me ha gustado (casi) nada. Y eso que lo tenía todo para encantarme: narrativa francesa contemporánea, formato supuestamente epistolar, ambientación en París, una historia de amor, pérdida y duelo... Y todo ello se me ha quedado a medias. Me ha parecido forzado. Incluso la ambientación en París me ha parecido que recurría a los tópicos de quienes escriben (o escribimos) conociendo la ciudad como turistas: los cafés de siempre, las calles de siempre, los escenarios más que repetidos. La historia me ha dejado completamente fría, ni siquiera los personajes a priori más tiernos (Arthur, Alexandre, Sophie) me han despertado ninguna emoción. Y el "misterio" en torno a las cartas... era tan obvia la resolución desde el principio que me pasé toda la lectura esperando el giro que me demostrara que no iba a ser tan evidente. Pero no hubo suerte. Una pena. Muchísimo potencial que, a mí, se me ha quedado en nada.

Ha sido un libro precioso, emotivo y mágico. Porque esa ha sido mi sensación al leerlo que tenía una aura mágica. Y aunque empieza con un situación muy triste, y el protagonista le cuesta desprenderse de esa melancolía las últimas páginas transmiten alegría porque Julien, al final, apuesta por la vida.
Ese momento revelador frente al muro del amor casi me hace saltar las lagrimas.
Esta lleno de frases preciosas pero me quedo con esta:
"Los muertos deberían tener siempre una habitación en nuestros recuerdos. Podemos visitarlos allí, pero es importante que los dejemos en esa habitación y cerremos la puerta al salir"
Ese momento revelador frente al muro del amor casi me hace saltar las lagrimas.
Esta lleno de frases preciosas pero me quedo con esta:

Auch wenn ich dieses Mal nicht so schnell in der Geschichte ankam, so war es doch wieder einmal eine schöner Barreau. Es handelt sich um ein Buch, das Hoffnung geben soll. Hoffnung darauf, dass das Leben nach einem großen Verlust, großer Trauer, großem Leid und großer Verzweiflung durchaus Wege findet, in all die Dunkelheit kleine Lichtpunkte zu bringen, die mitunter zu einem hellen Lichtstrahl heranwachsen können. Zaghaft, aber stetig. Wer Barreau mag, mag auch dieses Buch. Er beschreibt die Situation des Protagonisten ohne Kitsch, dafür mit viel Wärme und Mitgefühl.

Julien Azoulay, a French rom-com author, loses his 33 year old to wife to cancer. He then struggles to function and raise his young son on his own. His late wife made him promise to write 33 letters to her to help over come his grief. Once Julien finally begins writing the letters he starts to move on and begins living again. I enjoyed this story about love, loss and hope. It reminds me of a quirky SBS foreign movie. I would love to know who the real German author is! Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my digital copy.

Ľúbostné listy z Montmartre je útla knižka popisujúca nekonečnú lásku. Lásku medzi Julienom a jeho manželkou Héléne, ktorá zomrela a nechala ho samého so štvorročným synom. Nostalgiou a smútkom pretkaný príbeh kombinuje zaujímavý nápad – Julien píše svojej manželke listy, ktoré nosí na jej hrob. Lenže jedného dňa tieto listy zmiznú a namiesto nich sa tam začnú objavovať drobnosti, ktoré Juliena opäť vracajú do života. Vďaka týmto maličkostiam sa znovu smeje a verí, že tieto drobnosti mu nejakým záhadným spôsobom posiela práve Héléne.
Ale je to skutočne Héléne, kto mu na listy odpovedá? Alebo je to niekto úplne iný, o tom by si ani nepomyslel, že by to mohol byť a ku komu by mohol pociťovať náklonnosť? Hoci bol príbeh príjemný a čítal sa ľahko, nebol napísaný pre mňa. Na môj vkus tam bolo priveľa smútku a depresie, ktorá sa ma nedotkla, ale skôr mi prekážala. Taktiež mi prekážal autorov pocit, že nás – čitateľov musí previesť celým Parížom, kedy popisoval takmer každú uličku, kaviareň, vzdialenosti medzi nimi. Mnohé názvy mi nič nehovorili a nepoznala som ich a v rámci príbehu boli pre mňa zbytočné. Chýbal mi tam humor, rozumiem, že pri téme smrti manželky by sme sa nemali smiať, ale zároveň by som nemala byť z toľkého smútku otrávená. Ani romantická linka, ktoré v príbehu síce je, ale je taká nevýrazná, akoby tam ani nebola. Najjednoduchšie by som dej knihy zhrnula takto: Julien je smutný, veľmi smutný, menej smutný, napokon je zaľúbený. Viem, že Nicolas Barreau je považovaný je vynikajúceho autora ľúbostných románov, lenže pre mňa to bola priemerná kniha s nepostačujúcim záverom.

Kas gi, jei ne meilės istorija, vykstanti Paryžiuje, priverstų net karščiausią dieną paimti į rankas knygą, o širdį plakti greičiau. To labiausiai ir tikėjausi iš šio kūrinio. Bet kas galėjo pagalvoti, jog visai čia ne linksma istorija. Jau pirmuose knygos puslapiuose sužinome, kad kažkam nelemta gyventi ilgo ir laimingo gyvenimo. O kažkam tenka nugalėti juodu šydų apsitraukusį gedulą ir gyvenimui nusišypsoti iš naujo.
Taip, knygos idėja tobula. Beveik kiekvienas žmogus yra susidūręs su artimojo netektimi. Vieni iš liūdesio išlipa, tačiau kiti daugiau nieko be jo ir nemato. Siužetas visai įdomus - vyras prižada savo mirštančiai žmonai parašyti 33 laiškus už jos nugyventus 33 metus bei nunešti ir saugiai paslėpti paminkle. Tačiau labai gaila, jog tų 33 laiškų čia nerasime. Bus tik keletas. Kalbant apie rašymo stilių, jis tikrai neprastas. Nėra kažkas unikalaus ar stebuklingo, bet kaip vasaros skaitiniui pats tas. Ypač lengvai plauki per puslapius lyg per sviestą, o pati knyga taip pat nestora.
Nėra taip, kad rekomenduočiau šią būtent geram ir ramiam laiko praleidimui. Labiau linkstu į rekomendaciją liūdinčiam, gyvenimo prasmę praradusiam ar netektį patyrusiam žmogui. Optimizmo čia yra, tokiu atveju "perskaityto" laiko nepasigailėsite. Bet aš neradau to, ko norėjau, negavau to, ko tikėjausi. Perskaičiau, ir viskas. Neatitiko mūsų su knyga bangos šiuo atveju.

Νέα χρονιά και νέα βιβλία.
Τις τελευταίες ημέρες του έτους δεν είχα διάθεση να διαβάσω λόγω της "κατάθλιψης" των ημερών. Και κάπου εκεί λίγες ώρες πρίν την αλλαγή του χρόνου έπιασα στα χέρια μου αυτό το μικρό βιβλιαράκι.
Δεν είναι το είδος που επιλέγω να διαβάζω αλλά ήλπιζα να με βγάλει από το αναγνώστικο τέλμα που ειχα πέσει.
Τα ερωτικά γράμματα από την Μονμάρτη είναι ένα γλυκό βιβλίο γραμμένο έτσι ώστε να δίνει ελπίδα.
Είναι ένα βιβλίο μελαγχολικό και συνάμα αγαπησιαρικο.
Ο Ζυλιεν είναι ένας συγγραφέας που έχασε την γυναίκα που λάτρευε από καρκίνο.
Είναι συντετριμμένος και δεν βλέπει πουθενά φως, όμως έχει υποσχεθεί στη γυναίκα του ότι θα της 33 γραμματα. Εξού και ο τίτλος..
Όμως αυτά τα γράμματα είναι ένα παιχνίδι κρυμμένου θησαυρού γιατί σε κάθε τέλος του υπάρχει μια αρχή για μια νέα εξερεύνηση.
Τα ερωτικά γράμματα από την Μονμάρτη είναι ένα βιβλίου γεμάτη συναισθήματα.
Υπάρχουν σημεία που κουράζουν με τις πολλές συναισθηματικες στιγμές που αναγράφονται επαναλαμβανόμενα.
Και κάποιες στιγμές πού έχει πολλές λεπτομέρειες που σε κουράζουν.
Παρόλαυτα είναι ένα ωραίο βίβλιο με ένα δυνατό μάθημα ζωής.
Είναι πρωτότυπο ως προς την ροή και την τοποθεσία που ξεκινά αυτή η ερωτική ιστορία.
Είναι ένα συναισθήματικο μυθιστορήμα όχι όμως πολύ μελό ή δραματικό αλλά με μια χροιά Σκοτεινού ρομαντικού στυλ.
Το τέλος του είναι ελπιδοφόρο και δίνει δύναμη στους ανθρώπους που έμειναν πίσω και δεν θέλουν ή φοβούνται να βγούν από εκείνο το πένθος που είναι ερωτικό και συνάμα πονάει πολύ αλλά όλοι έχουμε ανάγκη να σταθούμε σε αυτό για λίγο η για πολύ.
Γιατί το πένθος είναι έρωτας.
Ματωμένος, σκοτεινός αλλά έρωτας..
Κλείνει με το μύνημα της ζωής.
Υπάρχει ζωή μετά από το θάνατο αρκεί να καταφέρεις να αφήσεις πίσω σου ότι σε πονάει. Να το κλειδώσεις στην άκρη της καρδιάς και να κοιτάξεις θαρρετά το μέλλον.
Γιατί το ουράνιο τόξο βγαίνει μετά την καταιγίδα.

This book will be the perfect cute romance movie.
It is an enjoyable read that makes your heart flutter and makes you happy cry at times.
Of course it started of heartbreaking with the male lead character who just lost his wife.
His wife made him promise he will write her letters when she is gone and he did and went through quite a journey he did not expect.
From this book we get to see the process of grief and mourning.
How he tries to move on not just mentally but physically and socially.
How he is trying to accept that he is moving on with his life without his wife.
The journey he went through was really a roller coaster.
He had good days and bad days.
At the end of the story you feel like you just finishing a marathon with Julien and your heart just flutters for what he has went through.
It was an enjoyable cute read that I recommend to anyone who needs a good romance read.
"I thought life is both sad and humorous, horrifying in its injustice yet full of wonder at the same time. And unbelievably beautiful."

Ach!!! Ostávajú síce ešte tri mesiace do konca roka, ale ja môžem s pokojom v duši povedať, že toto bola NAJLEPŠIA KNIHA ROKA 2020!
Absolútne ma chytila za srdce. Milujem štýl písania autora. Listy sú plné citu a autenticity. Popri tom vás kniha zavedie nielen do hĺbky duše hlavnej postavy a do anatómie smútku, ale aj do úzkych uličiek Paríža a do kaviarní, kam si budete chcieť ísť sadnúť tiež. Krásne mesto, skvelé jedlo, rodiaci sa cit plný tajomstva... nepripomína vám to niečo? :) Čitateľom, ktorým sa páčila moja kniha Cudzinec z papiera, sa bude určite páčiť aj táto nádherná romantika. Prepracované postavy, mätúce náznaky až do konca, slzy, smiech, happyend. Nemožné pustiť z ruky. Všetko, čo má správna kniha mať! Za mňa päť hviezdičiek z piatich. Vrelo odporúčam!

I was looking forward to reading this book, the story sounds great and super romantic, the blurb made me feel like this was going to be a roller coaster of emotion but I felt like something was missing. The story had a lot of potentials but still, I feel like somehow, somewhere, something got lost.

Η υπόθεση ήταν πως να το πω .... ηλίθια ! Αυτό είναι το πιο κομψό που μπορώ να πω !
Παρόλα αυτά δεν μπορώ να μην αναγνωρίσω πως ο Μπαρρό διαθέτει υπέροχη γραφή χωρίς να κουραζει, χρησιμοποιεί όμορφες εικόνες κ περιγραφές !
Αν θέλετε να δοκιμάσετε τον συγγραφέα, διαβάστε καλύτερα το «Παρίσι είναι πάντα μια καλή ιδέα». Πολύ καλύτερο και διασκεδαστικό.
Παρόλα αυτά δεν μπορώ να μην αναγνωρίσω πως ο Μπαρρό διαθέτει υπέροχη γραφή χωρίς να κουραζει, χρησιμοποιεί όμορφες εικόνες κ περιγραφές !
Αν θέλετε να δοκιμάσετε τον συγγραφέα, διαβάστε καλύτερα το «Παρίσι είναι πάντα μια καλή ιδέα». Πολύ καλύτερο και διασκεδαστικό.

I really didn't expect to like this book, BUT it was an unexpected pleasure to read. Reminiscent of Cecelia Ahern's P.S I Love You, this story was a look at how Julien finds peace after the death of his wife.

Di questo libro porterò il singolare ricordo di come lo ho trovato: sopra un cassone del vetro. Mi è sembrato, ed ancora oggi mi pare, una volgarità buttare un libro così! (Nemmeno nel cassone giusto tra le altre cose...)
Dico che porterò questo perché non c'è molto altro. Nonostante i miei sforzi ottimistici e il fatto che non ho trovato la lettura noiosa non posso nemmeno dire che questo libro mi abbia colpito.
Che siano le tematiche ad esser fuori dalla mia portata o il fatto che siamo costretti a digerirle in così poche pagine ad infastidirmi tanto? Il Lutto e la malattia, il ritrovare l'amore nonostante tutto e la vita che trionfa sopra la morte sono argomenti che mi interessano, ma non nel breve respiro di poco più di 200 pagine!
Stucchevole e carico di speranza quanto voi, sì certo, ma il disincanto e la novità dopo un poco finiscono e quando ti devi trovare a tirare le somme di cosa ti ha trasmesso il libro e ragionare se lo consiglieresti a qualcuno rimango con poco in mano.
La storia è banale, un po' troppo anche per un romanzo rosa, e il mistero che dovrebbe incatenarci (non allettarci, si badi bene) alla lettura è un po' di troppa facile soluzione.
I personaggi sono simpatici e intriganti questo va concesso.
il figlio che ha perso la mamma che ci commuove con la sua tenerezza;
l'editor del protagonista, che in poche borbottanti battute ci regala un sorriso;
fino alla misteriosa scultrice/restauratrice Sophie
(l'immagine della ragazza in cima ad un tiglio che pare un grazioso folletto nero mi ha conquistato da subito).
Non saprei a chi consigliare questo libro se non a quelle persone in ricerca di saccarosio da sgranocchiare con gli occhi!

3,5 para Julien y su historia, habla de la pérdida, del duelo y de su superación. Cuando pierdes al amor de tu vida y crees que ya nunca nada te hará feliz comienzas a dar pequeños pasos y que te llevan a un lugar más luminoso. La promesa que le arranca a Julien su mujer le sirve para transitar ese duelo, en un marco de ensueño y con la marca de la casa, un cuento que transcurre entre pistas, búsquedas, hipótesis hasta el maravilloso final. Si quieres una historia dulce y bonita, este autor es una opción fantástica.

Una storia d’amore che va oltre le solite convenzioni sociali,una storia d’amore che non ha fine dopo la perdita della moglie. Julien Azoulay rimane con il figlio piccolo e da qui in poi deve affrontare la dura realtà che ora è solo e deve trovare la forza di continuare a vivere ed andare avanti per amore del figlio e ritrovare la sua quotidianità. L’unica cosa che lo distrae da tutto è la promessa fatta alla moglie in punto di morte,lei voleva che le scrivesse 33 lettere dove lei voleva che le raccontasse di lui e della sua vita… Cosa porteranno tutte queste lettere nascoste al cimitero e chi incontrerà Julien nel suo percorso a ritornare alla normalità e riaprire il suo cuore all’amore e alla felicità…
Una lettura piacevole e molto scorrevole,mi ha fatto riflettere sul fatto che non bisogna avere fretta nel guarire le ferite del cuore e tutto deve avere un suo tempo. Prima o poi si riesce a trovare quell’appiglio di speranza che ti fa voltare pagina. A me la lettura è piaciuta molto,una scoperta piacevole Barreau.
È una lettura consigliata.

Una storia d’amore che va oltre le solite convenzioni sociali,una storia d’amore che non ha fine dopo la perdita della moglie. Julien Azoulay rimane con il figlio piccolo e da qui in poi deve affrontare la dura realtà che ora è solo e deve trovare la forza di continuare a vivere ed andare avanti per amore del figlio e ritrovare la sua quotidianità. L’unica cosa che lo distrae da tutto è la promessa fatta alla moglie in punto di morte,lei voleva che le scrivesse 33 lettere dove lei voleva che le raccontasse di lui e della sua vita… Cosa porteranno tutte queste lettere nascoste al cimitero e chi incontrerà Julien nel suo percorso a ritornare alla normalità e riaprire il suo cuore all’amore e alla felicità…
Una lettura piacevole e molto scorrevole,mi ha fatto riflettere sul fatto che non bisogna avere fretta nel guarire le ferite del cuore e tutto deve avere un suo tempo. Prima o poi si riesce a trovare quell’appiglio di speranza che ti fa voltare pagina. A me la lettura è piaciuta molto,una scoperta piacevole Barreau.
È una lettura consigliata.

V prvom rade by som sa veľmi pekne chcela poďakovať vydavateľstvu Zelený kocúr, že mi výtlačok zaslalo na recenziu a ja som mala možnosť si ho prečítať.
Od francúzskeho spisovateľa Nicolasa Barreaua je to môj prvý titul, ale napísal i iné známe ako Úsmev ženy alebo Paríž je vždy dobrý nápad.
Ja som sa na knihu tešila a asi som mala aj nadpriemerné očakávania, ktoré sa bohužiaľ nenaplnili. Tentokrát nebudem názory deliť do odsekov s nadpismi, ale písať jednoliato, čo všetko mi napadlo počas čítania a po ňom.
Dej začal naozaj depresívne. Julien bol zdrvený zo smrti ženy, ktorá ho navyše požiadala o písanie listov. Nebol tým vôbec nadšený, ale želanie jej splnil. Jeho slová boli plné nehynúcej lásky a citov voči Hélène. Boli dlhé, detailné a on si vylieval zlomené srdce. Netradičným nápadom bola špeciálna schránka ukrytá v jej hrobe, kam listy odkladal. Práve túto korešpondenciu hodnotím najviac kladne z celej knižky. Čakala som, že ma úplne rozcítia, dojmu a budem z nich hotová. Boli krásne, ale je tu veľké ale. Nič so mnou neurobili, vôbec nič. Nijaký záchvev emócií a pocitov.
Potom niekto obálky bral a nechával tam malé darčeky. Hneď na začiatku som odhalila o koho išlo, stačilo iba pozorne čítať, kto mu kládol aké otázky. Zistíte to aj vy.
Julien mi bol náramne nesympatický. Ja som sa s ním nemohla zžiť a hneval ma. Nevedela som si s ním vytvoriť akékoľvek puto a mať pochopenie pre to, že sa nechce vyrovnať so smrťou manželky. Nikdy som nezažila stratu blízkej osoby, možno aj preto som sa do neho nedokázala naplno vcítiť a porozumieť mu. Len som očakávala, kedy si z bytu urobí mauzóleum, lebo od toho nemal ďaleko. Komplexne ako charakter sa však posunul a vyvinul.
,,Všetko nešťastie sveta možno nespočíva v tom, že človek nevydrží sedieť vo svojej izbe, ako to raz trefne formuloval filozof Blaise Pascal, ale v tom, že sa porovnáva s inými." - Julien, str. 55
Naopak, jeho najlepší priateľ Alexander bol pre mňa skvelý charakter. Úprimný s reálnym pohľadom na život a tým, že sa s ním nebabral. Nebál sa mu povedať, že je v živote zaseknutý a mal by sa už od manželky odpútať. Taktiež aj nápad s listami mu prišiel bizarný a trafený. Stále však bol k Julienovi prostoreký a priamy ako príkladný kamarát. Myslím, že takúto osobu v živote potreboval.
Ďalšou zaujímavou postavou bola jednoznačne Sophie - umelecká kamenárka a sochárka z Montmartre. Viedla mužského hrdinu k tomu, aby začal žiť život a neostal žiť v minulosti a ľútosti. Jednoznačne ho posúvala vpred. Treba podotknúť, že ani jedna z postáv nebola vykreslená vyslovene negatívne a záporne. Catherine, najlepšia kamarátka Hélène a suseda, bola opisovaná ako protivná a zvedavá, ale vyslovene nešlo o zlý charakter. Nikto nezastával úlohu antagonistu.
Hélène bola mŕtva, ale napriek tomu sme sa o nej takmer všetko dozvedeli. Julien sa retrospektívne vracal k ich zoznámeniu a vzťahu. Popisoval jej vzhľad a správanie, takže čitateľ sa oboznámil aj s ňou.
,,Pozrite sa, Julien, ono je to tak," pokračovala opatrne. ,,Mŕtvi by vždy mali mať v našich spomienkach svoj priestor. Miestnosť, kde ich môžeme navštíviť. No je dôležité, aby sme ich nechali v tej miestnosti a zatvorili dvere zvonku, keď odchádzame." - Sophie, str. 76
To, čo mi počas čítania prekážalo a pôsobilo rušivo bolo množstvo francúzskych výrazov. Nenarážam na tie, ktoré sú medzinárodne dôverne známe ako ahoj, ďakujem, milujem ťa a pod. Tie neznáme neboli preložené a ja som sa trošku strácala. Možno by nerozumeli ani tí, ktorí neovládajú anglický jazyk, i keď to je už raritou.
Keď to komplexne zhodnotím, tak dielo jednoznačne nie je zlé. Štýl autora je pútavý, myšlienky a nápady sa mi páčili, každá postava mala niečo do seba. Vo mne to však nič nezanechalo. Ja sa nestotožňujem s názormi tých, ktorí hovoria o emocionálnej a romantickej bombe. U mňa taký jav nenastal. Napriek tomu knihu odporúčam a pravdepodobne sa vám zapáči ako väčšine. Stojí za prečítanie. 3/5.

Nuo labai senų laikų aš visada svajojau pamatyti Paryžių. Ne kaip meilės miestą, bet kaip kultūros, meno ir gražios architektūros katilą... kai tik pradėjau keliauti iškart puoliau domėtis bilietais būtent į Paryžių, tačiau likimas nulėmė miestą pamatyti kiek vėliau, nei tikėjausi. Nuvykus, manau, priklauso nuo nusiteikimo – gali matyti kalnus turistų, o gali pastebėti smulkmenas, gražias detales... mane miestas sužavėjo. Ne sparkling Eifelis, net ne Luvras, o tos akimirkos, kai gulėjau Tiuilri soduose su Morrison „Sula“ ir ilsinau kojas, kurios jau nuo skausmo grasino sulįsti patys žinote kur. Man Paryžius reiškė įrodymą sau, kad kai labai nori, gali viską.
Su šiuo autoriumi esu pažįstama, tad nieko stebuklingo nesitikėjau – tiesiog jautrios, gražios ir nuoširdžios istorijos. Tą ir gavau. Žiuljenas yra rašytojas, kuris liko vienas auginti sūnelio kai tik nuo vėžio mirė jo 33 metų žmona Elena. Prieš mirtį žmona Žiuljenui paliko užduotį – parašyti tiek laiškų, kiek Elena nugyveno metų. Žiuljenui prireikia laiko, kad imtųsi užduoties, tačiau galiausiai jis pradeda ir parašytus laiškus neša į Monmartro kapines – sudeda į žmonos kape įrengtą seifą, paslėptą angelo skulptūroje. Po kelių laiškų Žiuljenas seifą randą tuščią. Na beveik – jame laiškų nebėra, tačiau įdėta akmeninė širdelė.
Labai graži knyga. Nuostabus žmonos būdas grąžinti vyrą į gyvenimą. Visai spalvingi veikėjai, o kur dar mezgamos netikėtos pažintys kapinėse. Patiko tai, kaip Žiuljenas bendravo su vaiku – o Arturas, judrus ir smalsus, daug klausimų užduodantis vaikas. Be jo šitas romanas būtų netekęs didelės dalies šarmo.
Nors ir lengvas bei nuspėjamas, romanas vis tik palietė skaudžią temą: kaip? Kaip gyventi toliau, kai netenki gyvenimo meilės? Kai žinai, kad nebegrįš, o staiga prasideda mistiški dalykai, paliekamos smulkmenos, tarsi atsakymai į laiškus. Kaip atsikelti ryte, apsirengti ir tiesiog gyventi toliau? Man asmeniškai sunkiai suvokiama, tačiau šioje situacijoje Žiuljenas buvo ne tik vyras, netekęs žmonos, bet ir tėvas, turėjęs rūpintis vaiku. Yra apie ką pamąstyti skaitant šią istoriją. Viskas atrodo lengva ir paprasta, bet giliau yra ir sluoksnis ar du.
„Mirusiesiems reikia turėti kambarį mūsų prisiminimuose. Galime juos ten aplankyti, bet visada turime palikti ir uždaryti duris.“
Optimistiška, sakyčiau gydanti istorija, ypač tiems, kurie nori vėl patikėti, kad viskas bus gerai, ir kad nereikia bėgti nuo jausmų ir savo silpybių. Poilsiui ar atostogoms, puikus pasirinkimas. Arba kai norisi teigiamų emocijų.

I read 200 out of 300 pages and paid attention but honestly I was just avoiding the inevitable. I skimmed the rest and spoiled myself the ending because I couldn't take it anymore. This book sucked. I hated the protagonist, everyside character even the kid was annoying. The redeeming quality is his mother, the hotel heir and that's it. if i can describe it with one word it would be annoying and that's sad because i had so much fun reading the ingredients of love and fairly enjoyed paris is always a good idea. I feel bad for my fifteen euros that i payed full price only to roll my eyes every two seconds and realise how much pretentious everything, the plot, the dead mom, the paris but really touristy side of paris is.

"Love Letters from Montmartre" or as I like to call it “The book version of P.S. I Love you” is a delightful read, but like most of Barrau’s works in the last decade, misses the mark. This was undoubtedly a beautiful story about hope, grief, and love, but it fails to deliver. Julien Azoulay is a young French writer who recently lost his wife, Helene. He’s also the father of a little boy, Arthur. Before she died, she asked him to write thirty-three letters, one for each year of her life; after six months, he hasn’t even written the first letter yet.
Things start to change after he begins to write the first few letters, he starts to live again and to feel closer to his deceased wife through those letters. In the cemetery where Helene is buried he, and Arthur, meet a young art restorer who fixes statues around the old cemetery; those beautiful angel sculptures mostly belong to famous people buried there. Her name is Sophie.
At the same time, he also grows closer to Helene’s best friend, Catherine. Ok now. There is a moment in the book when I feared the author was going to do the same thing he did in another one of his books when after he made me fall in love with a couple, he chose to pair the protagonist with another woman with whom the guy had no chemistry and them ending up together didn’t make any sense. I hated that book SO much. That feeling of "dread" kept me company during the entire book.
I’m not going to tell you how the book ends or who Julien is going to choose, but the thing that for me fails to deliver a good story here is the fact that Julien spends so much time doing NOTHING but grieving and those pages were so dull. It killed the mood; I was waiting for the book to finish because the whole story was dragging way too much for my taste. Also, Julien, Sophie, and Catherine are, weirdly enough, the only characters that don’t stand out and are not adequately fleshed out. I couldn’t picture Sophie in my mind because she was so basic; nothing she said or did made me like her. Catherine...well Catherine, I don’t even know who she is except for Helene’s best friend and someone who likes Julien and is a good friend to Arthur.
Honestly, the two things I loved the most about the story were the supporting characters (all of them, the annoying kid included, were beautifully written) and the setting, the stunning Montmartre that makes my heart sing every time I look at new pictures or read a new article about the place. It’s the kind of book that is perfect for reading during the summer but keep in mind what I told you about the main characters.

Amerikietė Nina Sankovitch nuo mažens labai mėgo skaityti. Kaip teigia Nina - knygos buvo tarsi klijai, suvieniję jos imigrantų šeimą. Bet po staigios sesers mirties, kai atrodo gyvenimas prarado prasmę, ji pradėjo ieškoti būdų, kaip atsitiesti. Taip gimė "365" projektas, kurio metu ji kiekvieną dieną perskaitydavo po knygą, o savo patirtį aprašė - "Tolstoy and the Purple Chair - My Year of Magical Reading ". Ir tai buvo jos susitaikymo su netektimi terapija.
Filme "P.S. Myliu tave" pagrindinis veikėjas prieš mirtį palieka 10 laiškų su patarimais žmonai, kurie turėtų padėti susitaikyti jai su jo mirtimi. Ir tai yra dar vienas terapijos pavyzdys.
Knygoje "Meilės laiškai iš Monmarto" - rašytojas Žiuljenas, po žmonos netekties, praranda gyvenimo džiaugsmą bei kūrybinį įkvėpimą. Tačiau moteris, prieš mirtį, priverčia jį pasižadėti parašyti jai 33 laiškus - po vieną už visus nugyventus metus. Būdų, kaip susitaikyti su netektimi, yra daug ir visi jie geri, kol mums tai padeda.
Pati istorija knygoje kažkur jau matyta/girdėta/skaityta, rašymo stilius neįmantrus, kiek infantilus, bet labai gražiai atskleistos visos gedėjimo stadijos. Skaitosi labai lengvai, nors buvo vietų kur susigraudinau. Knyga, kurios tikrai nedėčiau į atostogų lagaminą, nedovanočiau, ką tik pagimdžiusiai draugei ar porai vestuvių proga. Tačiau ją tikrai įtraukčiau į biblioterapinių knygų sąrašą, netekties tematika. Kai reikia to gražaus žodžio, suvokimo, jog nesi vienas tokioje situacijoje. Kai jauti, jog viduje dar slypi užslėpti jausmai ir reikia tik vos vos, jog juos atvertum.
Beje, knygoje yra paminėta viena daina - Feist "Secret heart". Susiraskit ir paklausykit, man ji atspindi visą knygos esmę.
