Gunther Green is not the common type of hero. He's grouchy. He drinks and cusses. He's simply washed out ever since his short military career. Anxiety, depression, and lack of confidence are the least of his problems as he has been encountering demons ever since he was a boy. Now with the help of his immortal friend, Dekon, the duo are divinely dispatched to hunt demons. At long last, Gunther is given the chance to avenge his rock star father's murder. Armed with the ability to manifest spiritual weapons, Gunther is mistaken by the public for a nonexistent street magician called Allan From The Swiss. As annoying as the mistaken identity is, the duo find it useful to freely hunt demons as they please, given that people seem to be either naïve or desensitized because of social media. As the duo take up this adventure, Dekon offends just about everyone they encounter while Gunther all but apologizes. Later joined by Gunther's younger sister, Chloe, and her witch friend, Queen, the group helps Gunther realize the evil that was right in front of him for many years. This is one of many offensive backbone stories of good versus evil and while some may say that violence doesn't solve anything, they've clearly never met Gunther and Dekon.
The story is about two best friends, one human and one immortal, on a mission to fight evil together. One of them is mistaken for a street magician, Allan from the Swiss, serving them as a disguise, leading the public to think that the special effects from the battles they fought were not more than magic tricks.
Gunther, aka Allan from the Swiss, is a sweet but troubled young man determined to avenge his father’s murder. Ever since he was a little boy, the paranormal world has taken hold of him, and to make matters worse, his relationship with his self-centered, selfish, and mean-spirited mother has only added to his overwhelmed soul. He found a great friendship in the immortal Dekon, another troubled soul, who uses his reckless and rowdy behavior as a shield to hide the pain caused by his father’s abandonment when he was still a child.
An ever-guiding voice and Gunther’s faith in the Creator give the duo the boost they need to fight the forces of evil, and it’s then that readers are treated to an action-packed story filled with epic battles against all kinds of demons, using special powers and angelic weapons bestowed on them by the Creator. But as they fight the forces of evil, they also fight their inner demons.
The book has some criticisms about the true role of the church in our lives. How far do the lines between good and evil cross, and how true is everything we’ve learned?
It also makes us think about our role in our children’s lives. Who doesn’t dream of being a superhero parent? But we are only human, and sometimes the reality is different. If we are not careful, our rash actions, poor choice of words, or attitudes can leave lifelong emotional scars on our children.
It’s a fun story with relatable and endearing characters that grow on you with every struggle of their lives. There are a few emotional moments that keep us thinking about life, but also lots of hilarious passages between Gunther, Dekon and the crowd. You can’t miss this unique paranormal story and not ride this wild roller coaster of good versus evil!
Badass action, badass music, badass humor, badass storytelling! For Namesake: The Confusion of Allan From The Swiss is one of the most creative books I have read so far this year. This is Blake Edwards first published novel and it reads like it is his 10th. This book takes you for a wild ride as you follow two unlikely flawed heroes, who must battle their own demons as well as the real demons who want to destroy them. The characters are vey well written. I found them relatable, and often hilarous. This book is full of action, as well as poinent moments. I would not describe it as your typical paranomal novel. It is original from start to finish. I would recommend anyone take the time to experience this book.
For Namesake The Confusion of Allan From The Swiss follows the story of Gunther Green, a 27 year old veteran, and his mission from The Voice which sees him battling and destroying the demons of the earth. With the help of his immortal best friend, Dekon, the pair embark on their biggest mission yet.
Dekon is my favourite character. Literally, if there was ever an immortal male version of me, this would be it. Both bisexual, both hilarious 😏😂
If you’re a fan of fantasy and paranormal, this is definitely the book for you! There’s badass women, epic battles, LGBTQ+ representation, mermaids! There’s friggin mermaids! 😍
Okay, that was totally unexpected. This book was different from anything I've read before. So different I wasn't even sure what to name the genre…Fantasy Action? Is that a thing? This is the tale of Gunther, an unlikely hero who has teamed up with an immortal to hunt demons. Throw in some confused identities, interesting companions, hilarious moments, and unexpected adventures, and you have a quite unique take on the Good-versus-Evil theme. What I liked the most where the parallels drawn between the external demons and the internal demons that they have to face (mental health themes are important topics throughout the story). A very creative and unexpected story indeed!
This has to be the coolest book that I have ever read 😎.
It is full of spiritual warfare, demon fighting, a superhero, spiritual weapons, and all sorts of kick-ass things like motorbike riding, a guitar battle, a dragon!
The relationship dynamic between the characters is fascinating, including fraught family relationships. What I love about Blake's books is that they feel raw and real, even with all of the fantastical elements.
Highly recommended, if you are cool enough that is 😎
Let me just start this off by saying I can't believe this is Blake's first published novel!!! Honestly reading it you'd never know! His writing style is amazing and interesting and ALWAYS keeping you on the edge of your seat while reading!
This is a page turner. An amazing thrilling read and I honestly can't wait for the rest of the series!! The wild ride is one of my favorites! It's unique and wonderful with characters fighting their own demons!
Hot. Immortal. Bisexual. HILARIOUS. Males. Dekon is my absolute favorite character 🤣 I would die to have a guy best friend like him 🤣
If you like fantasy, paranormal, has action to keep you hooked, this is a perfect read! Gunther & Dekon team up to hunt demons while going on this adventure. Definitely different from the other genre that I tend to read, but the uniqueness is what had me & plus this is Blake’s first published book?!? 😍
For Namesake is raw, gritty, and uncut like a cassette recording at a live performance of an underground rock band. A buddy story at heart. It’s wrapped up in weird little world full of cryptids and has all the makings of a grind house style late night series.
Honestly I quit reading for so long and then my friend told me to try this book and let me just tell you that I was not disappointed! I loved the humor, the story telling, the characters, the relationships. I loved the details. The action. I can't wait to start the next book as soon as possible.
