It’s been smutty and violent, which I love, but it’s not what I was expecting going in, and since I’ve put it down I’ve just had zero interest in picking it back up.

I fell in love with purgatory but I became one with penance. This book is now apart of me and I’m still reeling from it.
I knew K.L was going to bring it in this next installment , but honestly I wasn’t prepared and I’m absolutely here for her creative evil genius ways.
We get so much emotion, vulnerability, and depth from our characters in this book, but I feel like we really get a deeper and emotional look into our favorite psycho Kyla Rose. This book continues where book 1 left us and we are thrown threw some crazy twists and turns that leave us feeling probably as emotionally unstable as our girl.
What can I say? I fell more in love with our harem of guys in this book too. Kyla Rose doesn’t need protection, but the support system they offer her is everything. We also get some answers when it comes to our guys, although, there is still some mystery that remains that I’m ready to dive into.
If you loved the first book you’re going to want to devour this one. However, be warned. We have triggers for days and although we love them - watch your mental health while reading.
Get ready for smut, drama, angst, twist and turns to make you dizzy, and a splash of crazy. You’re gonna love it, I know I did.

The first book in this series was an instant favorite. I was consumed by it, instant 5 stars that didn’t cause me to waver on what I knew wouldn’t change that review. I expected even more from this book. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved it and will keep reading the series, especially after that cliffhanger. But I expected more action and more of the suspense and more delving into the mystery that was one of the main parts of this series. And I never thought I would say this about a book, but there were way too many sex scenes.
I’m glad we got more of the backstory for Lala and Maxi. That was definitely something I was looking forward too. And I’m glad all of that got straightened out. But it was like the main points of this whole story was put to the back for us to have chapters upon chapters, copious amounts, of sex scenes. I found myself wanting to skim through those parts, but I can’t do that with any book. But I wished I could. I felt like the main parts of the story (other than the backstory) was just put on hold to make the book stretch out.
And I expressed my love for Charlie in my review of the 1st book, and I was giddy to get a chapter from him, but it fell flat cause it was a pointless chapter! It added nothing to the plot or the story as a whole. It was like it was just thrown in there, again, to make the book longer.
This is sadly why I rated this book 4 stars and it wasn’t added to my favorites shelf. Which was SUCH a letdown! I did love seeing all of their relationships flourish and work themselves out, and this author really does have a gift with writing sex scenes cause it’s not just sex…it’s the emotions and passion that come with it too. But it fell flat for me since it felt like a bunch of fillers. It was disappointing since the 1st book is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
I’m really hoping that the 3rd book will move back up to 5 stars and it will blow me away. I would still recommend this series to RH lovers everywhere though!

Kyla Rose is an incredible character she is the female embodiment of death with a thirst for vengeance and blood but she is fractured irreversibly from the traumas of her life. Any moment she could be triggered to the point her demon fights to break free and her mental walls crumble. She is volatile and deadly yet she craves the validation of love and trust.
Huxley and Kacey worship the ground Kyla Rose walks on, they will give anything for their queen. She completes them in ways they never though possible but they are acutely aware of how one more can send her spiralling. When a ghost from her past threatens their relationship everyone has to learn how to adjust, trust and grow. Max claimed Lala when they were teens but after 10 years and a betrayal later can they salvage what once was?
Charlie is the epitome of an unhinged psycho but his love for Kyle Rose is unquestionable. His loyalty unwavering, he is her other half and when they're together they find solace in the darkness together.... I hope they become more but only time will tell.

WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN WITH THIS REVIEW?! Kyla-Rose absolutely 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐓 in this book. No ifs, ands or buts about it, it happens. Why you might ask? Well the one person who ғᴜᴄᴋɪɴɢ ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ ʜᴇʀ (before she was broken of course, you'll learn soon enough) came walking in the front door like he owned the place, literally. Why? Because it was his house, with Hux and Kace, but she didn't know that, and they weren't expecting him either. So what does she do when she's so overwhelmed that she goes into panic mode? She loses her shit and draws blood, creating a whole fucking scene that sets up the entire fucking book.
But this is just the start. Her relationship with Kace and Hux only strengthens, but is also reinforced when what's broken begins to mend, Kyla-Rose style, so it's not as smooth as one would imagine with the bumps along the way. I wont even touch this though because it's just too hot to handle.
Everyone still thinks she's losing it with everything that happened in Purgatory, and now this incident just tops it all off. One even tries to have her committed! She may be losing it, but she isn't wrong in what she's been seeing and feeling because the threat is real. But the question is, just how far does the threat reach? Is everything she knows and has known been a lie? Was she really just the pawn in this sick and twisted game she didn't even know she was part of, or is there more to it than meets the physical line of eyesight?

For most of this book the story revolves around the heroine reconnecting holding her long lost love at arms length. Just as she decides she’s all in with Huxley and Kacey, a blast from the past shows up right at their front door in the form of their missing friend. Even knowing what Max was dealing with still makes it hard to accept his not showing up for Kyla. Their last night together became the catalyst to her downfall and eventual abuse but he was also young and stuck in a tough place himself. Life sure likes to test us all at the worst times and in the worst ways. Her history makes her hesitant in even speaking with Max and I really appreciated her hesitation in letting him back in. By the end the group has pretty much established their harem but of course once things seem to be going well the other shoe will drop. Unfortunately this brings another blast from the heroines past as well as the majority of the action in the final few pages. Not sure how I feel about The book does end on a brutal cliffy but luckily the final of this trilogy is ready and waiting. I need some Kyla revenge and I’m bracing but ready myself for all the crazy and all the blood she’s about to unleash on the world.

I have been waiting for this book since I finished Purgatory - K, with her gorgeously wicked mind, did not disappoint me at all.
****This is the second book of a trilogies, you DO need to read Purgatory before diving in****
I adored Kyla Rose in the first book, in this one she won my heart. This sweet psycho proves she has what it takes to survive the criminal underworld, but I loved seeing her a bit vulnerable this time around.
Huxley and Kacey are still a lint of mystery. A little more of their pasts are exposed, but what they do in the present is still pretty much in the dark. They continue to make me swoon with their alpha possessiveness, worship and love over Kyla.
Max - oh my sweetness, this young man. I wanted to be mad at and dislike him so much, but I just couldn’t. Everything he did to protect Kyla back when they were kids just made my heart squeeze so hard.
The four of them together is a nuclear explosion of chemistry, steam, adoration, and love with perfect dash of psychotic tendencies. I love how Kyla is just as possessive of her men as they are of her.
KL blew my mind with the twists, kept me on the edge of my seat with the suspense, and had me clinching my thighs so hard I could bust a watermelon from the steam. This world and the characters in it are written with such vividness that I can see everything play out in my minds eye with ease. I couldn’t stop flipping the pages as this talented author pulled me in even more and I don’t regret a single second. I love the different POVs, it brought each character to life even more and I swear I fangirled so hard when KL included a chapter from my favorite side character (I so stake claim over with no shame), Charlie. KL took me on a thrilling, action packed ride that left me on my knees with the scream worthy cliffhanger.
I loved everything about it and can’t stress enough to give this trilogy a chance. It’s more addictive than my morning caffeine fix and easily earning its rank in my top 5 favorite book series. I can’t wait to see the outcome!

ok, so first, CHECK THE TRIGGERS. this one is darker than the first by a looott. we get a lot of Kyla’s mental health struggles and some of her past that made her who she is and it can be dark.
i absolutely loved Kyla in the first book, but book 2 just solidified my love for this badass psycho woman!! like, am i crushing on Hux and Kacey (ok and Max 😏) or am i crushing on Kyla? 🫢 i just imagine her as this hot, badass woman who takes no sh*t and will slice a b*tch if she needs to, but she has a soft and vulnerable side that her boys help nourish and bring out in her.
speaking of the boys - still absolutely in love with Hux and Kacey. they are so sweet and possessive and i need them for myself. i also wasn’t sure how she was going to add Max into the mix and if i was going to even like him, but he was added in pretty seamlessly and i ended up liking him by the end (even if i did want to punch him in the face in the beginning lol).

Where do I even start on this bad boy. We pick right up where Purgatory ends - that's book 1, if you didn't already know -, and we see Kyla-Rose dealing with things in a way that only she could. The deep dives that we get into her mental health, her past and her trauma are so well written, and make the development we see her go through that much more spectacular. She is a badass, and a damn psycho, and I want to be her friend. Actually, maybe I kinda want to be her, just a little bit. Apart from at the end, because K threw us one hell of a plot twist that left me unable to speak. Literally, I got off of a train and just sat there, staring at my kindle. But I recovered, and I forgive her, because honestly, I kinda like the pain of a cliffy.
And just to add, the steamy scenes in this book, holy crap, K really knows what she's doing, and so do those guys.
Also, Charlie ♡. I dont think I really need to elaborate. When you read it, you'll understand.
If you're looking for a hot, suspenseful read with plenty of dark twisty moments then this series is 100% for you.
And as with most dark romance books, please check your triggers

I have been waiting on this one since the end of Purgatory. I needed to know how Kyla-Rose was going to handle the situation that had walked in. Kyla-Rose is definitely one of my favorite FMCs. She is a little on the insane side, but she also has her faults and has gone through a lot of trauma that she is still dealing with.
I LOVE HER GUYS! They are amazing!! All of them are definitely alphas and definitely iknow how to handle Kyla-Rose. This one has a lot going on. It's intense and its SPICY. I have completely devoured this one, like book one, and I know that the next will be the same way.
THE END! OMG, THE END! What' on EARTH KRISTY! WHAT DID YOU DO?!? I know, I know, "it could be worse" is what they all say, it could, but WTF. My mind is spinning just like Kyla-Rose's proably is right now... You better be fixing it. FIX IT.

ABSOLUTELY FUCKING LOVED IT!!!

Jesus Christ on a motherfucking cracker bro. This shit is embedded in my fucking soul. Firstly, let me give credit to my baby Charlie. He is by no means a main character in this specific series. (he is family of the FMC and not part of the harem i mean) but damn, if that motherfucker isn’t one of my favorite characters ever. Anyways, I am in love with this book. In fucking love. Like these are top tier book boyfriends.. my poor fucking nipples dont stand a chance dude. hard as fucking stone, like Medusa her goddamn self looked him dead in the fucking eye.
i have done NOTHING with my fucking day beside binge books 1 and 2 of this series.

I have only this one thought after I finished Penance: WHAT THE ACTUAL F🤯💥That twist in the end? My mind is reeling 😩

May is happy because THE ONE CHARACTER I WAS DESPERATE TO SEE IN BOOK1 FINALLY MADE THEIR ENTRANCE IN THIS BOOK AND I WAS ALL HERE FOR IT!! It was frikkin amazing!!! I don't even know where to start with this review right now. My mind is still reeling from the ending.
This is book 2 in the Swallows and Psychos trilogy. It picks up exactly where book 1 Purgatory ends. There is just so much to unload about this story, but I don't want to give too much away.
It is a reverse harem. You meet Huxley and Kacey in book 1. They are both just amazing. Huxley is sweet and joyous, while Kacey is a feral beast. The contrast between them is done perfectly. Kyla-Rose is setting herself for a wonderful relationship with them both. Then Nox comes into the picture and she loses it. I loved the way KL depicted mental health in this book. It's clear that KR suffers from PTSD. The way it's expressed shows just how extreme it can be for people and how it shapes them as they get older.
I wanted to hate Nox after everything we learned about him, but I ended up falling for him just as hard as I have for Hux and Kacey. The possessiveness they all have for KR is *chef's kiss*. The will do whatever it takes to protect her.
There were so many plot twists throughout I didn't know what direction things were going to go in. I DID NOT expect the ending (cliffhanger) that we got. I'm honestly so made at KL for it right now lol. I can't wait until October to find out the real truth.
Now let's talk about the smut!! It was so well done. I mean I found myself needing a minute after certain scenes because they were written so hot. With it being a RH you get plenty of hot scenes that are MF, MFM, MFMM. Each mmc giving their own smutty personality. The scenes didn't feel repetitive at all. They were each unique.

WTF have you done to me? I am a complete and utter mess after finishing this wild story! Tears are dripping off my chin and all I want to do is scream and shout and maybe punch a wall or something. My heart can’t take anymore pain. Please, for the love of all that is holy, give me the rest of the story quickly! Kidding! But I freaking loved this dark and deliciously twisted story!

Kyla-Rose is one badass MF Queen who bathes in the blood of those that betray her. She is definitely unhinged, craves violence and pain and loves deeply.

I…. freaking… LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!
My god, where do I even begin?! Book 2 has the arrival of… well… that man we got dropped with at the end of book 1 🙃 . literally the prologue had me almost in tears…. Gah!🥰
Now, to be fair, I was so mad at him to begin with because everything that happened, but throughout this book so much happens that my emotions were a freaking roller coaster. I hate him, I love him, I HATEEE him… nope.. nope omg I adore him 😍😂 Him and Kyla have great growth together.
Huxley will always be my fav (gods I love that man so hard) but I truly loved them all by the end of this. And the SMUT!! My worrrrdddd the freaking smut, and blood and mayhem and chaos 😈😈😈🥵🥵☠️☠️
Do check your triggers. No joke. This is dark romance and it does have its really dark moments - which I was soooooo here for. 😈
New twists and turns. A Charlie POV 😍😍, beautiful relationship growth between them all. KylaRose is such a strong bad ass FMC but definitely has and still does, have some healing still to go 💖

UUGGHH!
I started out thinking I would only give this 3 maybe 4 stars but let me tell you, the further into the book and the more scenes that played out it started really sinking in why there was so much detail. Why this girl was grasping onto the first 2 men and then the 3rd towards then end. This girl is so damaged and they helped heal her, bring her back from her slip on reality. They love her, worship her, protect her, consume her and make her open up to them! Then the end and BOOM all of it just blows up in your face, what you think is a deliciously dark love story turns into the nightmare from hell! I am mad, I am pissed, I am really heartbroken for her at the discovery that is laid out for her at the end! Where are they when she needs them the most. Where is Charlie whom always seems to sweep in and fix everything for her? (By the way Charlie is my new book boyfriend) I am going to have a hard time waiting for the 3rd book! It’s already on my TBR list! Amazing dark read with a whole lot of triggers! I absolutely loved it! Mrs. Lane keep the fire burning in the next installment like you did in this one! I do believe we are about to see just how psycho Kyla-Rose can get!

The cliffhanger ending was messed up and heartbreaking. I can’t wait for the 3rd book to fix that heartbreak. I loved the authors ending notes.. I too wanted to hate Max but I love all the boys (Max, Huxley and Kacey 🥰💜)and I can’t wait to read how all that info got twisted, I can’t believe that they would ever do any of that to her.. they have to be on the way to save her now.
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book and the previous as much as I did. I am so grateful I was able to get an ARC of this 2nd book.
They are wonderfully dark and spicy. Kyla Rose (and her cousin, Charlie) are so very deranged… rightfully so with their history. Loved how we got a POV chapter from Charlie…

This book BLEW MY FREAKING MIND!! If you thought that you fell in love with these characters when you first met them in Purgatory just you wait be prepared to fall to the depths of he!! And never want to return because they bring it hard! Kyla is my complete girl crush and I swear you go through every emotion with this be you hate to love them and love to hate them but the the chemistry is so freaking explosive that you can’t help but pant after these men. If you love a dark (I mean dark) dirty romance filled with blood twists and turns and all the cray cray then this baby is for you. There is tons in f growth with all of the characters and our amazing author stepped up all the sexy time scenes that will have the pages of your kindle melting. Then while your so captivated by what the heck is going to come next you are hit with one EPIC freaking cliffy that will then have you wanting to throw ur kindle at the wall and screaming WTF. This is 100% a must freaking read like no waiting no passing go just grab it asap and immerse yourself in KylaRose’s world!

Oh My Goodness Gracious. I have very few words this time! The author surely had a way of spinning words into an excellent steamy story! I love this incredibly dark series and the places it takes me.
This book starts just where book one left off - Maddox is back. Kyla-Rose has very strong feelings about this and they are not positive ones. Huxley and Kacey aren’t sure what to do to help her since they’re friends with Maddox - or Nox as they call him - which seems to put them in a tough spot.
It all seems to come around eventually and the tension between everyone calms down. There’s a force outside the group going after Kyla-Rose on a personal level, and her boys are not having any of it. When she has to be admitted to the hospital for surgery, we get left with ANOTHER cliffhanger! This one really has me all messed up. I have feelings but they’re spoiler-y so I’ll just keep them to myself.
Anyway - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for this one (rounded up of course) only because I liked the story and action in the first one more than in this one. I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3!

Penance is book 2 of the Swallows and Psycho series by KL Taylor-Lane and OMG you really need to read this. If you thought the first book was amazing then it has absolutely nothing on this one. I think anyone who reads this series will absolutely adore Charlie the FMC Kyla Rose’s brother who is completely broken and twisted but in all the right heartbreakingly psychotic ways. In this second book you are put through a rollercoaster of emotion that really makes you delve deeper into some of our characters which I absolutely loved. You will definitely get some cases of dang blue balls in some cases but hooooly hotness the steam is off the charts and the chemistry is absolute fire! Now I’ve promised the author I’m not allowed to hate on her for the ending of this book and I don’t but daaaamn I’m a needy so and so to know what happens now after that ending! I am SO in love with this series! 🖤

Must Read!!!
This book was even better than the first and I loved the first one!!! We have so much going on. There was action and angst. There was more steam and it was oh so delicious! Like off the charts moments!! Those 3 men...they are so perfect for Kyla and she is so perfect for them. I thought there was so much growth happening from Kyla herself and with her relationships with the guys. I love that their relationships weren't only physical. There is true emotions and trust and love there. We get more POVs from the guys and we even get one from Charlie. It made me love Charlie even more!!! So, to sum things up this book was just amazing!! I need book 3 though, because that cliffhanger was tough. I gotta feeling there is definitely more to the story. I cannot wait for the next book!!

Book 1 was amazing, so different, so not what I was expecting. Book 2 exceeded that, it took me to heights of joy, heat, finally feeling Kyla-Rose was getting her happiness and then it threw me on the ground and stomped on me repeatedly. I loved it. I tried to take this book slowly, to savour it, but I did not, I inhaled it like the greedy B I am. The FMC and 3 MMC's are so twisted, so broken and so perfect for each other, it hurts. But they also self sabotage and stop everything being an easy walk in the park, which as a reader, is exactly what we want even if it hurts. The side characters are amazing, Charlie in particular. The story will really make your time worth it though. I cannot wait to find out how the hell this pans out, I really hope there is loads of blood and violence and a really good reason for that brutal ending (which hurt so good)

Kayla-Rose absolutely loses it and we get to see how bad-ass she can truly be. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen when her first love and ghost suddenly appeared and getting his POV was really cool.
Always check your TW! K.L. Taylor-Lane did an incredible job putting you in the mind of someone who went through some serious abuse and showing us the lasting scars that her past caused.
I can't wait to find out what happens next when the third book comes out! If it is already out when you read this, prepare yourself by buying the third book immediately, because you're going to want to know what happens next right away!

I am absolutely floored and so so in love with this book. Penance is book 2 of a trilogy and you have to read book 1, Purgatory before reading Penance. But seriously, do it! If you’re on the fence, please check trigger warnings. I fell in love with Kyla-Rose and her boys and the seedy underworld that they inhabit. It really explores the issues that Kyla-Rose has and how the guys just totally dote on her. Her and her cousin, Charlie together are my favorite though. I would love to see more of “the Chaos twins” in the next book. Everything about this story is so well thought out. Giving background to some of the issues that come up is so nice. I don’t feel like I’m missing any parts of the story line. BUT! That ending killed me. It does end on cliffy, so beware! Totally worth the ride and I cannot wait until October for the next

Book 2 is a direct continuation of book 1 Purgatory so you must read that first.
This book brings us back Kayla Rose and her men, it has a different feel from the first book, seeing more of the emotional mess that has made KR who she is and the trauma of her past. It is packed with spice and kinky scenes sometimes could be a bit too frequent (never thought I would say that!). I felt the story was slower in this book but knowing it would have another book you can see why as the author has been building the characters in this to allow for that.
That cliffhanger! Say it isn't so, I simply refuse to believe it but will have to wait until book 3 is released to find out.
