REVENGE IS ONLY HALF THE STORY An unreported missing person. A crime that lurks undetected. A temptation that corrupts the incorruptible.
Only when a corpse is uncovered are these dark secrets revealed. But the dead can’t speak. They can’t accuse. And they certainly don’t pay their debts. It’s up to DCI David Garrick’s investigation team to connect the dots and unearth a most peculiar crime…
But crime doesn’t shield a jaded Garrick from his personal problems. With budget cuts, a wedding, and crushing personal pressures, he’s rapidly having to re-evaluate his life… and with opportunities to turn his fortunes around, the unthinkable is becoming increasingly tempting…
I’m enjoying the story line and I’ve been reading the books back to back. It’s terribly frustrating the number of grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, incorrect words used. Surely there should be better editing & proofreading. Also some of the incidents change between books ie Molly’s finger amputation - one book it’s index finger then it’s pinky back to index in another book. I thought Sonia as Wendy’s best friend? What happened to best friend Judith. Mmm think there’s more to be revealed about Sonia! Looking forward to how the Garrick/Wendy relationship develops; does anyone else feel there’s something not quite right there? I know where I’d take it but that’s a dark theme.
In the last two books the author seems to have lost their command of the English language. Wrong forms of words, so that it doesn’t make sense. And the same word used twice in a sentence so you have to read it two or three times to figure out what was intended.
There are typos on almost every page. The constant use of Americanisms is grating. It is a shame as the storyline is good and the characters interesting, although Wendy seems a little one-dimensional. Please employ a proof reader and tone down the ghastly American words that have no place in a book set in Kent, England.
I have given this novel 3 stars, but like others who have read this on their Kindle I found there to be editing, grammatical and some sequence errors, which left me somewhat frustrated. I was sure that these should have been picked up in the editing and proofreading stage so I contacted the author who was horrified to know that this was the case and may be spoiling his readers enjoyment of the novel.
He thanked me for letting him know, as he was unaware of this, so I would think that there should be an update to Kindle sometime soon. I know that doesn't help those of us who have read the novel, but it does show that the author is not always aware of issues and is appreciative of being advised if the reader finds things like this.
One book has not put me off reading the rest of the novels in the DCI David Garrick series and I've already purchased these right up to The White Horse, though there is another in the pipeline which will be available in January 2027 all being well.
Giving it 3 stars was generous. Absolutely preposterous ending, I won't say more because I don't want to spoil it but DCI Garrick has become quite the super hero/ action man. Throw in the complete lack of basic proofreading (the number of typos is astounding) and I'd recommend that people who like this series (and I do), give this one a miss.
Have really enjoyed all the books in this series so far but have to agree with other reviews. The use of the English language is shocking, where's the proof reading? Surely someone should have picked these things up before print.
Another romp for David Herrick and his team across Kent is an easy and good read. But the editing! Typos, wrong words, wrong tenses, litter the book and - for me - spoil it. Such a simple thing to get right.I wish they would.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading these books. If you like police, crime novels these are for you. It will mean many sleepless nights as you won’t be able to put them down. Ican’t wait to read the rest.
Great story. Dreadful typos, missing words, incorrect expressions!
Love these characters and the plots are well thought out and mostly unputdownable but after trying to gloss over dreadful typos, grammar, incorrect expressions, words missing, dreadful and confusing spelling mistakes , it took away from the story and made it hugely distracting. Previous books in the series also had them but this one was the worst .
Garrick and his team solve another crime with more twist and turns than the Indy 500. As usual a story that keeps you turning the pages, always well done.
Three stars because of the number of mistakes. It’s a shame because they’re spoiling the stories. Get a decent proofreader please! Can’t read any more.
