Why do the worst cases always start with anonymous calls?
I should have just kept ignoring my phone. Just like I’ve been doing for the last couple months. It’s been a concerted effort, since my investigation skills are in demand after a string of high-profile cases. But I haven’t been interested in more business.
I’ve been more focused on other things.
Too bad Serena Adams doesn’t care what I want.
Hell, she doesn’t even want to hire me.
She just wants me to know that three bodies are going to drop today.

In this the 4th book in the series, Tess has two problems on her hands, one is whether she should hand over her partner detective Javy Diaz to the Ferrymen, and the other is how to stop a famous journalist from exposing what and who she is. Javy is the last of the five immortals still alive, and she was damned if she'd hand him over. So she and Javy set out to find the Ferryman and capture him for all the imbalance he had brought onto the world when he had killed and stolen the souls of the other four immortals. What Tess discovers is very unnerving as her long absent mother Rebecca, also a soul walker, seems to be involved in all the immortal muddle. Furthermore doubt is being thrown about the reason why Javy is really in Ragnarok and Tess is angry he is keeping secrets from her, but their bond is still too great to be threatened by these innuendos. She is being threatened with her life, but she won't back down, and when finally exposed for being a soul walker Tess faces the challenge in her usual indomitable way. She storms right at them. I just love this character, she is sarcastic and dauntless in the face of trouble even when the threat is to her own life. This is another one hell of a read and I look forward to the next book where Tess has to face her new reality after being exposed.
This book was shorter and not nearly as complicated or good as the previous books. But was definitely the Tess Skye we all know and love. The ending had me a bit confused as to if there will be another book in the series or not. It felt abrupt but with a shorter book it also didn’t. I know I’m being vague, sorry. I enjoyed the story, and I love Tess. I love the characters, the mystery and all the complicated and intriguing ways D.N. Erikson weaves these stories. I hope this wasn’t the end to the series.
I have read this book and giving my honest review. Oh my goodness what a great book and awesome title. Lives up to its name. Tess is great in this 4th book. One person I love to his her dog. You get drawn into the book once more, from start to end. Sorry it ended: with a great adventure. Bodies and the Ferryman? Twist excitement not going to spoil you have to read this yourself. I hope you enjoy as much as I did:
Lord this gurl \woman frustrated me I wanted too reach inside the book and strangle her. Whew cause I wonder do she have a death wish or just like to not think of the consequences of her actions and how people can get especially her rider.. This book is good just be prepared to shake your head at her stupid actions
This is another great addition to this action-packed urban fantasy series. Trouble just seems to find Tess and this time there’s bodies dropping like flies and she’s next apparently! Does she stand down, does she heck as like, nope she kicks ass and asks questions later! It’s thrilling and exciting, it’s fast paced and captivating and I look forward to more.
I was in the mood for a mystery with some paranormal which let me back to this series. I didn’t realize that I started this book but didn’t finish. So I dived in.
It all came back very fast and I instantly remembered the draw of this series. It is fast, quirky and I love Javy and Tess. I can’t wait to see what is next.
It wasn’t a bad book… but I did not enjoy this as much as the others in the series. There was a lot of revealing tidbits about Tess et al, but it seems like this is a lead up to something bigger. Maybe. We’ll see.
Tess finds out that mom has done something terrible and she tries to find ways to undo it. Several gruesome murders turn up and Tess is warned that she is next. She and Javy with help from Finn try o solve the murders and unravel Tess’s mom’s past deeds.
